Mohali: 11 booked for assaulting man who wanted to support anti-drugs resolution

The police identified the accused as Manikaran Singh, Liakat Ali, Shinder, Kala, Sushil, Karan Singh, Annu, Juli, Bunty, Sanjeev and Tholu.

The complainant Parampal Singh, a resident of Cholta Khurd village in Kharar sub-division, stated to the police that the village panchayat and its residents had decided to pass the resolution to aid the administration in tackling the drug menace. However, he was assaulted after the meeting held on August 10. The police identified the accused as Manikaran Singh, Liakat Ali, Shinder, Kala, Sushil, Karan Singh, Annu, Juli, Bunty, Sanjeev and Tholu. Parampal Singh alleged that while he was returning home after the meeting at around 7.30 pm, two villagers – Manikaran Singh and Liakat Ali – stopped him and started making queries about the meeting. “They were upset over the meeting and asked me not to pass the resolution. I refused saying that it was the collective decision of the villagers. They got angry and called some more people there. Manikaran then attacked me with a sharp-edged weapon and they all assaulted me with the intention to kill,” Singh alleged.
