AN 18-YEAR-OLD woman allegedly died by suicide after she was “abducted and raped” by a 20-year-old man in a moving car on the outskirts of Meerut on Tuesday, police said Wednesday.
The girl’s father filed a complaint at the police station concerned against the accused, his father and a friend but no arrest has been made yet, said an officer.
According to the FIR, the victim had reached home on Monday from New Delhi, where she was a student. The father alleged his daughter was out in a market later that day when the accused and his friend reached there in a car and forcibly took her with them. Her father alleged that the accused raped her and made a video of the crime. They dropped her off near her house and she consumed a poisonous substance after reaching home, he added. “We took her to a hospital, where she died on Tuesday afternoon,” said the father.
Devesh Kumar, Deputy SP (Sadar, Rural), said an FIR was registered under IPC sections 376 (rape), 306 (abetment to suicide), and 383 (intentionally putting any person in fear) against the accused and his father while the friend has been booked under other relevant IPC sections. “The body was handed over to the family on Tuesday evening after post-mortem. A search is on for the three accused,” said DSP Kumar.
The father also claimed to the police that the accused had raped his daughter a few months ago and had been putting pressure on her to enter into a relationship with him. He also made “objectionable” videos of her and threatened to share these online, alleged the father.
“Earlier, I met the father of the accused after my daughter told us about her ordeal but his father, an influential man, warned me to remain silent. We then sent her to the national capital for studies,” said the father. “I have no fear now… I have lost my daughter. I will not let the (accused) father, son and his friend go unpunished,” he added.
