Saka’s pinpoint cross that was headed home by Jude Bellingham means that the Gunners forward has now provided 27 goal contributions in 24 starts for his country.

Talking of numbers, Benson was seen wearing the no.87 on her back and chest in the stands at Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins-Arena.

No.87 was Saka’s first squad number at Arsenal.

There are just three days to go before England open their Euro 2024 account against Serbia.

To this point, Gareth Southgate’s men haven’t been all that impressive in the warm up games, though it is worth pointing out that the 2023/24 domestic season had barely finished before players were being asked to go full throttle into international commitments.

After a gruelling campaign, getting some much needed down time might have been preferable, however, that was never going to be on the cards for those players considered good enough for the Three Lions.

England are one of the pre-tournament favourites, and with good reason.

If they can play at somewhere approaching their maximum as the tournament continues, then the likes of Phil Foden Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon can be game winners for Southgate.

They’ll need to get their fingers out, mind.

Collymore says England need to up their game

“England’s poor performance against Iceland could be a perfect storm in terms of a tournament where the best teams always start slow and then move through the gears,” Collymore said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive column.

“I watched Holland beat Iceland comfortably 3-0, they absolutely battered them by putting a lot of crosses in the box, but in terms of England at the moment, there are several players – John Stones and Kyle Walker to name just two – that obviously need minutes in their legs and aren’t going to get them until they go into games.

“Jude Bellingham would have had a week or two off after the Champions League final to have a bit of a party… Unfortunately, we don’t have six friendlies to play to give them and others the time they need.

England manager Gareth Southgate needs to make sure his side hit the ground running at Euro 2024.

“[…] I don’t get involved in bookies odds and stuff quite simply because we’re in Britain and more people are going to vote for their own country than they are for others, but I do think there’s a very nice healthy dose of scepticism around the country which the Iceland result has only added to.

“The weather is a bit flat still, we haven’t started the tournament yet… the expectation isn’t really there because people haven’t got used to the three games in a day which football fans love and which sets the tone.

“I watched Portugal against Ireland and they look very, very good. I watched the Dutch, they look good. I watched the French, they look good. If we get to the semi-finals, we’ve got to be at our very, very best to win it.

Chelsea bounced back with a convincing win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Kyle Walker has become as famous for his off-field exploits as his on-field excellence at Man City.

The right-back is as dependable as they come for Pep Guardiola, and all the while he’s doing the business, he isn’t going to be dropped and his private life will be overlooked.

That’s just as well because Walker clearly doesn’t learn his lesson.

No content with embarrassing himself and his club during lockdown, when he was caught hosting sex parties at his house despite everyone being instructed to stay at home, he then went and got mistress, Lauryn Goodman, pregnant not once, but twice.

The revelation that he’d fathered a second child with his mistress saw his marriage to Annie Kilner collapse, and it prompted a trite and cringeworthy apology from the player via The Sun.

If he thought by doing so that the problem was going to disappear, it looks like he’s completely misread the situation.

According to an interview with Mail+, Goodman admitted that despite their differences, she and Kilner actually got on ok.

“There was a time when I hated her (Kilner)… but surely any mother would question how you could accept a man back but not his child?” she was quoted as saying.

“I won’t get into the private conversations I have had with Annie, but she did tell me initially she felt we were both victims of his manipulative and controlling behaviour, and at times we have got along quite well, apologised to one another and had a mutual understanding.”

All the current news cycle does is keep this tawdry episode front and centre.

Kyle Walker should be writing the headlines for the brilliant work he does on the football pitch, not the childish decisions he makes off it.

Man City remain Liverpool’s closest pursuers at the top of the Premier League table, but just like their neighbours across town, the club has issues with the off-field activities of its playing staff.

In the main, Pep Guardiola has fairly rigid control of his players though Kyle Walker has stepped out of line and brought embarrassment upon his club on more than one occasion.

Back in 2020 during lockdown, he was caught hosting sex parties at his flat per The Sun, but the scoundrel clearly hasn’t learned his lesson.

Recently kicked out of the marital home for fathering a second child with his mistress, Walker’s contrite apology via The Sun (h/t LBC) is fooling no one.

Now his sister-in-law, Sian Kilner, has taken to social media to slate the woman, Lauryn Goodman, that appears to have broken up her sister Annie’s marriage to the England international.

‘Stop accusing others: your true self is revealed. The so-called ‘loving relationship’ is a facade.. It’s not fooling anyone so why don’t you just give us all a break and stop.

‘Also, He has one sugar, Nestle Coffee Mate and semi-skimmed milk. But that’s the coffee you get at home… Not the ones in hotels or Air B&BS.’

With members of the family now getting involved in Walker’s private life on a more public stage, it only heaps more shame on the player.

As good a player as he is, Walker certainly isn’t a role model, and one can only imagine the riot act that’s been read to him by his own family as well as manager, Guardiola.

Thursday morning brought the shocking news that former England manager, Sven Goran Eriksson, has terminal cancer.

Sky News were one of the first outlets to report the story, with the 75-year-old quoted as telling a Swedish radio station with he has “at best a year to live.”

Eriksson will forever be synonymous with England’s ‘Golden Generation,’ when there likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen were in their pomp.

His chequered private life garnered almost as many headlines as his managerial career, though Eriksson will always be remembered for the latter.

From 1977 when in charge of Degerfors IF, right through to his last managerial job in charge of the Philippines, he was never out of work for long.

He had stints at Benfica, Roma, Lazio, Man City, Leicester City and Sampdoria, as well as Gothenburg, Shanghai SIPG, Shenzen and Guangzhou, not to mention the national teams of Mexico and Ivory Coast.

Well travelled and educated in the beautiful game, Eriksson’s influence can truly be seen in various corners of the world.

It’s a legacy that will endure long after he has passed, and the man himself wasn’t too melancholy about his impending death.

“Everyone understands that I have an illness that is not good,” he told P1, quoted by Sky News.

“Everyone guesses it’s cancer and it is. But I have to fight as long as I can. Maybe at best a year, at worst a little less, or at best maybe even longer. You can’t be absolutely sure. It is better not to think about it.”

Watford defender Wesley Hoedt scored a stunning goal against Hull City yesterday.

Winning the ball back with a great challenge near the half-way line, he spotted the Ryan Allsop off his line and lobbed him from almost 45 yards out.

The keeper scrambled to get to it but could only watch it land straight into the net, far from his reach.

But it was his reaction to the goal that was amusing as he hilariously started to have a go at his teammates.

We are not sure what they could have done to stop him from being lobbed from that way out!

Wife of Cesc Fabregas, Daniella Semaan, has denied reports that Lionel Messi cheated on Antonella Roccuzzo.

It was reported by a Brazilian outlet that the Barcelona legend is going through a big marriage crisis and alleged that he had an affair with Argentinean journalist Sofia Martinez. He further claimed that the couple are on the verge of separation.

However, the sources they used in their report did not appear to exit which questioned the integrity of the entire report, making it potentially nothing but baseless allegations.

And now, Daniella Semaan, the wife of his former teammate Cesc Fabregas has come out to defend Lionel Messi.

She used Instagram to slam the publication. Replying to an Instagram post, Semaan wrote: “What publication is this that has no meaning.. and has nothing right.”
