Liverpool are desperately looking to sign a new defender this summer after losing Joel Matip.

The Reds need a new centre-back who can partner captain Virgil Van Dijk in the Liverpool defense.

A number of centre-backs have been linked with a move to Anfield but nothing is advanced at this stage.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has still not made any signings at the club and the fans are anxiously waiting for a new addition.

The Reds were linked with a move for Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi but according to Football Insider, the defender will prove to be too expensive for the Merseyside club.

Guehi has impressed some of the biggest Premier League clubs after his fine performances for his club and country.

The 23-year-old was one of England’s best performers at the recently concluded Euros, which the Three Lions lost after making it to the final yet again.

The Palace defender is a long term target of Liverpool but his £70milllion price tag is proving too much for the Reds.

Marc Guehi is proving to be too expensive for Liverpool

After losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, the Eagles are demanding £70milllion for their valuable asset Guehi.

In order to keep him at the club and push away potential buyers, they have set a massive price tag for the central defender.

Liverpool consider Marc Guehi too expensive

However, Liverpool are not willing to meet the price tag set by Palace and they may look for other options in the market now.

The defender has two years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

His reliability and composure at the back can be an asset for any team that signs him but they would have to meet the demands set by Palace.

The defender will get his big move sooner or later as his impressive performances cannot be ignored for too long.

Arsenal are actively looking to make new additions in the transfer market this summer.

The Gunners have lost the Premier League title race against Manchester City for the last two seasons but they are determined to fight again against Pep Guardiola’s star studded squad.

Mikel Arteta has made the signing of goalkeeper David Raya permanent this summer and another signing could soon be completed as Gunners edge closer to Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The North Londoners are eyeing a move for another defender and they are prepared to offer striker Eddie Nketiah in a deal to sign him.

According to the Sunday Star, as reported by the Express, Arsenal are willing to offer Nketiah in a swap deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The Palace defender has attracted the interest of some of the biggest Premier League clubs due to his fine performances in the Premier League and for England at the Euros this summer.

It would not be wrong to say that he was one of England’s best players in the competition after showing consistency and reliability at the back for the Three Lions.

Marc Guehi Arsenal
Marc Guehi to Arsenal?

The centre-back is valued at £70m by Crystal Palace and the Gunners are prepared to offer Nketiah plus cash in a deal to sign him.

Arteta already has William Saliba and Gabriel as his starting centre-backs, who had the best defensive record in the league last season.

Adding Calafiori and potentially Guehi would make it one of the strongest defensive line ups in European football.

The report has mentioned that Nketiah is liked by Palace and they have shown interest to sign the Arsenal attacker.

Arsenal face competition from Liverpool to sign Guehi

It remains to be seen where Guehi will be playing his football next season as Liverpool boss Arne Slot is also keen on signing the England international.

The Reds have still not replaced Joel Matip after his exit from Anfield this summer and they are ready to target Guehi to partner him with Virgil Van Dijk in their defensive setup.

Guehi has shown he belongs to a bigger club and sooner or later, a move to a top six Premier League club will come for him.

Arsenal are hoping to beat Manchester United to Marc Guehi.

Mikel Arteta is hopeful of signing at least one new centre-back, and although Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori is the Spaniard’s top target, an approach for Guehi has not been ruled out.

The Crystal Palace defender has enjoyed a huge rise in recent times. Starring for England in this summer’s Euros, the 24-year-old looks set to be the Eagles’ next big mover.

Marc Guehi to Arsenal?

And according to recent reports, Arsenal could tempt Palace by offering striker Eddie Nketiah in exchange for Guehi.

The Eagles are in desperate need of a new number nine with Nketiah equally as desperate to become a club’s regular starter.

The prospect of losing Guehi, regardless of how exciting the thought of signing Nketiah may be, is not something Palace fans will want to think about.

Crystal Palace could see Marc Guehi depart the club this summer as several clubs, which includes Tottenham, have an eye on the England international.

The centre-back started for the Three Lions at Euro 2024 this summer and was one of the only players within Gareth Southgate’s squad that came away from the tournament with credit in the bank.

The Crystal Palace star put in some brilliant performances for England and it is even more impressive considering he missed a lot of the 2023/24 campaign through injury.

Guehi has attracted the interest of several clubs over the past year and according to Sky Sports, they include Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus, Newcastle, and Tottenham.

The Englishman has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2026 and therefore, Crystal Palace could seek £70m to part ways with their star defender during the current transfer window – similar to Everton’s valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite.

The London club will not want to lose another one of their best players ahead of the new season having already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, which could make obtaining Guehi very difficult for interested parties.

Do Tottenham need Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi?

Guehi has been with Crystal Palace since moving from Chelsea in 2021 and has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

It is not hard to see why clubs such as Tottenham are interested in the England international but do Spurs really need the player? Ange Postecoglou plays with only two central defenders and the Aussie coach already has Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero as his starters. Spurs even have a solid backup in Radu Dragusin.

£70m is a lot to pay for Guehi if he is going to be rotated and the England star will not want that role.

It is hard to see the defender making a move to North London this summer but many other clubs are showing an interest in the 24-year-old, as it remains to be seen if Crystal Palace are open to letting him go.

Liverpool are still in the process of identifying their transfer targets for the summer window.

The Reds have not made any signings so far while their rivals have made some big moves in the transfer market.

Manchester United have managed to sign Joshua Zirkzee and they are close to completing the addition of defender Leny Yoro.

The Reds have lost the race to sign Lille defender Yoro but they could make a move for Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi.

According to Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness, the Palace defender will be the ideal signing for the Reds.

Wyness has told Football Insider that the Merseyside club would have to pay £60-70million to sign the centre-back, who was one of England’s best players at Euro 2024.

He said:

“I think he would be a great buy for Liverpool.

“He is exactly what they need at the back. He’s had a good Euros and is one of the players that’s come away with some respect from his efforts.

“He and Ollie Watkins are probably the two winners from the England squad that have come away with it.

Marc Guehi Liverpool
Marc Guehi to Liverpool?

“Guehi is a difficult one, but you could be looking at a £60-70million fee and maybe more with sell-ons.

“He’s a young talent at a good age and seems to have acquitted himself well.

“Never buy on the back of a tournament has always been my belief, but he showed himself last year to be of high enough quality to be selected for the team.

“I think he is the perfect fit for Anfield.”

Liverpool need to sign a new defender this summer

The Reds do need a partner for Virgil Van Dijk at the back and Guehi could prove to be the perfect signing for them.

Liverpool suffered defensively last season and it became clear that they need defensive reinforcements.

Their season collapsed in the final stages due to a lack of experienced presence alongside Van Dijk.

Jurgen Klopp had to rely on young defender Jarrel Quansah and that is where the Reds struggled because of Quansah’s inexperience.

The transfer fee makes complete sense considering how much Man United had to pay to sign Yoro from Lille, who was set to become a free agent in a year.

Crystal Palace are facing a tough decision over Marc Guehi’s future with multiple Premier League clubs interested in the England international according to reports.

Guehi was one of England’s best performers at Euro 2024 as the Three Lions came up agonisingly short against Spain in the final.

The 24-year-old’s performances for England are likely to have increased his value, with Palace believed to want in the region of £65m for the centre back.

Palace face Guehi headache

Any potential sale would see Palace make a huge profit given they signed Guehi for £18m from Chelsea in 2021.

The likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly all shown interest in the past.

Palace will be desperate to keep hold of Guehi having seen Michael Olise leave for Bayern Munich, and Journalist Dean Jones has said that Chelsea and Liverpool are the ones to watch in the race.

Marc Guehi in action for England.
Guehi is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

“Arsenal, Man United and Spurs have all had an eye on Guehi since last year and his performances for England are going to cause Crystal Palace bosses a bit of a headache because his status has been on the rise this summer and it would be no surprise to see other clubs also having a look,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“But, in turn, his value is going up too, so who is going to pay upwards of £60million for him in the coming weeks? They have every reason to expect £65 million for him in the current market.

“Chelsea and Liverpool are two clubs to pay some attention to as the player now refocuses and considers what he wants next in his career. His ambition will be heightened.”

Whilst Guehi would likely be a welcome addition at Stamford Bridge there simply isn’t space for him in the current squad unless someone departs, with Trevoh Chalobah the most likely candidate to do so.

A move to Liverpool would make sense given Virgil van Dijk’s future is unclear and they are also in the market for a replacement for Joel Matip.

Liverpool are looking to sign a new defender this summer to add a defensive partner for Virgil Van Dijk to their squad.

Following the departure of Joel Matip after the expiry of his contract, a new defender is needed at the club to fill the void left by the reliable central defender.

According to TEAMtalk, the Reds are ‘super confident’ of signing Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

The defender was one of England’s best and most reliable performers at the European Championship this summer.

He started all the games for the Three Lions apart from the one in which he was suspended.

His fine performances for Palace and England have not gone unnoticed and the biggest Premier League clubs have tracked his development with the potential of a future move.

After the end of the Euros, a number of players will be involved in transfers this summer and Guehi will be one of them, as per TEAMtalk’s Fraser Gillan.

The former Chelsea defender has also impressed Tottenham but Liverpool have moved ahead of all their competitors in the race to sign Guehi by contacting Crystal Palace and asking what it would take to sign the impressive English centre-back.

Liverpool face competition to sign Marc Guehi

Guehi’s growth over the last few seasons has been remarkable and his career has developed at a quick pace following his exit from Chelsea.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing the defender and that is why the Reds do not want to waste any time in making a move for the defender.

A partnership of Guehi and Van Dijk might become the best defensive partnership in the league, overtaking the current best partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel at Arsenal.

As per the report, the Eagles are demanding £65 million for the defender and if they manage to sell him this summer, it will be their second big sale after Michael Olise joined Bayern Munich.

England manager Gareth Southgate and his players were given a good reception as they left their hotel to return home from Euro 2024 this morning following the pain of losing last night’s final to Spain.

Goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal gave Spain a fourth European Championship title, while England became the first team to lose two finals in a row, and continue their long wait for trophy in a men’s tournament.

See below, though, as England fans gave the team a good send-off, in stark contrast to some of the negativity we’ve been seeing on social media since last night’s result, and for much of the tournament in general…

England did well to reach another final this summer, but in general they never really played as well as they are truly capable of, and that surely raises questions over Southgate’s future.

Even if the current Three Lions boss has done a good job in his time in charge, there is surely an argument that someone else could produce a better playing style to make more use of the talented attacking players in this squad.

For now, though, it’s only right that England are applauded for their efforts, and for the fans to try to lift their spirits a bit after what will have been a hugely disappointing evening for all of them.

Liverpool are looking for a new centre-back in the transfer market this summer.

The Reds have still not made any new signings but they are keen to strengthen their defense and their wide attacking position.

New manager Arne Slot has started work at the club after taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman is preparing for the new season with some of his players away on international duty at the Copa America and the Euros.

After the departure of Joel Matip this summer, the Reds are desperate to sign a new centre-back.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are in negotiations with Crystal Palace to sign defender Marc Guehi.

The centre-back has been impressive for club and country recently and his form has attracted the attention of some of the biggest clubs in England.

The Merseyside club suffered at the back last season due to the absence of a reliable presence alongside Virgil Van Dijk at the back.

Ibrahima Konate was out with fitness issues, Joe Gomez has been inconsistent while Jarell Quansah is too young to become a regular starter.

Marc Guehi Liverpool Crystal Palace
Marc Guehi to Liverpool?

Romano revealed on his Playback Live Show that Liverpool had been in talks to sign the Palace player.

He said:

“Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool. I can tell you that Liverpool have been scouting the player for a long time. He’s a player they like, for sure.

“But at the moment, I can tell you that Liverpool are negotiating for Marc Guehi, because at the moment, the situation is quiet around him. Obviously there is the Euros, so after the Euros, we will see the appreciation of Liverpool for the player.

“I can confirm to you, but not only Liverpool – there are also other clubs, for example Arsenal and many others who appreciate the player. But in terms of the bid, in terms of the negotiations, it is a different story.”

Liverpool should not think twice about signing Guehi

The defender has been a star performer for England at the Euros this summer.

He has been a calm and composed presence at the back for the Three Lions and apart from the game in which he was suspended, he has started all the matches for them in the tournament.

He would be the ideal partner of Van Dijk at the back and his arrival could make Liverpool’s defense the best in the league.

The defender is a good passer, he can track attackers, he is good in the air and his consistency is something that could prove to be beneficial for the Premier League giants.

Euro 2024 ended on Sunday night with England falling just short again as Gareth Southgate’s men lost 2-1 to Spain in Berlin.

In truth, the Three Lions took a very long time to get going in Germany and arguably never showed their true potential, waiting until the semi-finals against the Netherlands to put in a truly fluid performance.

They then impressed in flashes against Spain but were firmly second best in Sunday’s final.

Spain duo Rodri and Lamine Yamal ended Euro 2024 with the Player of the Tournament and Best Young Player awards.

But who were England’s star men? We have ranked Southgate’s top boys, starting with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham in fifth place.

5. Jude Bellingham

Like Harry Kane, Bellingham was often criticised during the tournament and appeared at times to be playing with the brakes on.

And yet, it was Bellingham’s powerful header that got the Three Lions going in their 1-0 opening win over Serbia a month ago. And without his ridiculous overhead kick — seriously, who tries a bicycle kick under those circumstances?! — England would have suffered a round-of-16 humiliation on par with that of Euro 2016, when they crashed out to Iceland.

England simply would not have made it to the final without Bellingham’s genius, which ultimately saved them from embarrassment.

Jude Bellingham saved England from embarrassment against Slovakia

4. Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo played just four minutes across England’s first two games and was named as a substitute in their third group game against Slovenia.

However, since coming on at half-time in that match, he proved himself a crucial player for Southgate.

The 19-year-old provided composure, stability and quality in midfield at a time when things seemed to be unravelling in that area, with the Trent Alexander-Arnold experiment failing and Conor Gallagher not really doing anything of note.

That’s an incredible thought considering Mainoo entered the tournament with just three senior caps to his name, while he’s still only played 25 Premier League games for Manchester United.

Mainoo posted a pass completion rate of 91.92% at Euro 2024, along with 16.05 final third passes completed per 90 minutes. The youngster changed the way England approached matches from the moment he stepped on the pitch against Slovenia and may well have nailed down his place alongside Declan Rice for years to come.

Kobbie Mainoo only made his England debut in March but he’s now a key man

3. Marc Guehi

With Harry Maguire injured, finding a capable centre-back partner for Stones was seen as one of Southgate’s biggest dilemmas. With Marc Guehi around, he needn’t have worried.

The Crystal Palace defender showed supreme composure throughout Euro 2024, using the ball expertly and reading the game brilliantly without it.

There were a couple of mistakes, but Guehi showed excellent recovery speed to ensure they didn’t lead to anything fatal.

At just 23 years old, Guehi has his best years ahead of him and proving himself at this tournament could be a launchpad after an excellent 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

Marc Guehi did an excellent job in central defence in six starts

2. Jordan Pickford

We don’t need to remind you about Jordan Pickford’s biggest moment at this tournament, but it cannot be overstated how important that save to deny Manuel Akanji was in providing the platform to beat Switzerland 5-3 in the quarter-final penalty shootout.

Pickford has now saved five penalties in shootouts for England, stopping at least one in each of the four he’s been a part of.

He just turns up for his country — and Everton, to be fair — and it’s not just from penalties, with Pickford ending Euro 2024 with two clean sheets and just conceding just six goals. The former Sunderland stopper was second only to Georgia’s Giorgi Mamardashvilli (30) for saves (18).

Pickford’s composure and alertness were particularly important during England’s turgid group-stage campaign.

Jordan Pickford was England’s penalty shootout hero against Switzerland

1. Bukayo Saka

A little like Kane and Bellingham, Saka never actually found his very best form at Euro 2024. However, what he definitely did was grow into the tournament, and how!

It was Saka’s brilliant cut inside and finish that drew England level against Switzerland in the quarter-finals, just five minutes after falling behind.

After a nerveless spot-kick in the shootout, he then went on to terrorise the Netherlands and was only denied the winning goal thanks to a narrow offside call on Kyle Walker.

Across those two matches alone, Saka posted a team-highs for crosses completed (4) and chances created (3), while he was second for successful dribbles (5).

Saka will be disappointed with his performance in Sunday’s final but he still carried a bigger threat than most in an England shirt, creating two chances and drawing more fouls (3) than any other player on the pitch.

Arsenal’s star boy was England’s star boy.
