Though the expectation is surely that Tottenham Hotspur don’t look vastly different as a squad from how they do at the moment, there are clearly one or two areas which need refreshing for Ange Postecoglou ahead of the new season.

From a manager’s perspective, it’s always good to have an evolution of sorts. Even if it’s only the odd change of player here or there, new arrivals bring competition for places.

Tottenham want £60m for Richarlison

Noses may be put out of joint, but that should enable the manager to get the extra five to 10 percent effort out of those players who might’ve been coasting to that point.

There are also sales to consider too, and one player that has been courting a lot of interest in Saudi Arabia is Brazilian striker Richarlison.

Ange Postecoglou could let Richarlison leave Tottenham this summer.

Though it was understood initially that Richarlison had no interest in moving to Saudi, it’s believed that the 27-year-old may now consider the switch, especially in light of Spurs putting a price – £60m – on his head, thereby indicating that he’s for sale, per The Times (subscription required).

Well publicised mental health problems have been a burden for the player to carry around with him, and a move to Saudi, where the spotlight won’t shine on him so much, could be something that he will now consider.

Ange Postecoglou will be readying his Tottenham stars for their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea knowing that it’s the end of the road at the club for certain players.

If there’s one thing that has characterised the Australian’s time in charge of the North London outfit, it’s his straight talking and honesty.

Should reporters ask questions he doesn’t like, he’ll let them know about it. It’s clear that he doesn’t suffer fools gladly and from the outside looking in, he appears to have that aura which all great managers do.

It’s easy to see why his players are happy to buy into his philosophy, and after the histrionics of the Mourinho and Conte tenures, not to mention their stale brand of football, Tottenham’s long-suffering fans were almost certainly delighted by acquiring a no-nonsense manager who let his football do the talking for him.

Sergio Reguilon and Bryan Gil have been left at home by Tottenham

The tour will arguably give one or two fringe players the chance to stake their claim for a more permanent employment in Postecoglou’s starting XI, whilst helping others get somewhere close to approaching full match fitness.

For two of Tottenham’s ball playing exponents, however, being left at home signifies the end of the road for them at the club.

According to The Standard (subscription required), both Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon will be expected to look for new clubs whilst their current employers are on tour.

Gil’s silky skills wouldn’t look out of place in any midfield, whilst Reguilon’s marauding forays down the left side are surely likely to find a home before the first whistle sounds to signify the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

It’s been a relatively quiet summer so far for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur.

Though it’s almost certain that the North Londoners will be more active in the transfer market as the weeks tick by, only Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have been secured at present.

Postecoglou earned the trust of Tottenham supporters last season thanks to his no nonsense attitude and forthright manner, as well as ensuring his team played a brand of football that had long been demanded by the Spurs faithful.

Ultimately, due in no small part to a collapse in the final few games of the season (losing five out of their last seven per WhoScored), Tottenham were edged out of the Champions League qualifying positions by Aston Villa.

That would’ve left a sour taste for the Australian, who had worked so hard to get the Lilywhites back in the big time – and on the back of losing talisman, Harry Kane, too.

Tottenham’s Richarlison is set to move to the Saudi Pro League.

One player who could be said to have underperformed during 2023/24 is Brazilian striker, Richarlison.

A well-publicised mental health battle, detailed by The Independent, will certainly have played a part in the 27-year-old’s ability to hit top form on the pitch, where he only managed one goal in the final three months of the season (WhoScored).

Notwithstanding the same, it was believed that he intended to carry on at the club beyond last season.

However, as HITC note, it now appears that the striker has accepted the overtures from the Saudi Pro League as he’s told them he’s interested in a move there.

The only apparent proviso from Tottenham’s point of view is that they recoup the £60m that they paid Everton for his services.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to make their moves in the transfer market, but a potential double deal is going to set them back €120m according to CaughtOffside sources.

With Daniel Levy known to be careful with the club’s money, that sort of outlay will be a big ask from Ange Postecoglou, however, if the Lilywhites want to be considered amongst the English top-flight’s elite, sooner or later a big splash in the transfer market will need to be made.

Tottenham could make a splash in the transfer market

CaughtOffside sources with knowledge of Tottenham’s transfer plans have indicated that the club remain interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 24-year-old Portuguese winger, Pedro Neto, and Crystal Palace’s 26-year-old England international, Eberechi Eze.

Indeed, the North London outfit are known to have checked on the current situation of both players, and have received information regarding salary and other details required to complete a deal via their agents.

Tottenham could be about to execute an exciting double deal

Neto has established himself as a key player for Wolves, and whilst it doesn’t appear that he is angling for a move away, he is open to leaving should the right offer come in to tempt the Midlands-based outfit.

Eze has already seen Michael Olise depart from Crystal Palace, and with Marc Guehi enjoying a brilliant European Championship despite England’s failure, he too could leave Selhurst Park this summer.

Palace will surely be loathe to then lose Eze too, however, as part of a €120m double deal, the South Londoners may concede that getting market value or higher for their player would offer Oliver Glasner the opportunity to rebuild the Eagles and turn them into a real force in the Premier League.

Sources also indicate that Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are waiting in the wings and following developments, though any initial interest hasn’t yet been followed up.

Rennes’ rejection of €35m Doue bid from Bundesliga giants could let in Tottenham

At just 19 years of age, Rennes starlet, Desire Doue, has piqued the interest of a number of clubs including Tottenham Hotspur.

Football.london note that both Manchester United and Arsenal have been monitoring the left winger, but that Spurs appear to be most interested in offering the youngster a Premier League berth.

He’s clearly not going to come cheap, however, as transfer expert and CaughtOffside columnist, Fabrizio Romano, has posted that Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, have already had a €35m offer turned down by the French club for their player.

Doue managed four goals and four assists in his 40 games last season per WhoScored, which don’t appear to be great numbers on the face of it.

However, potential suitors clearly see something in the teen that they can work with and given that he has years before he reaches his supposed peak as a player, there’s clear room for improvement.

Tottenham need to move quickly for Doue

Rennes appear minded not to make a transfer easy for any club, so from Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy’s point of view, they need to decide whether they feel they’re making a punt or if they believe Doue has what it takes to go right to the very top.

If he fulfils his obvious potential then Spurs will arguably be bagging themselves a bargain, though Levy has shown in the past that he’s not a man who’s normally willing to take a gamble.

As of this moment, the North Londoners have kept their own counsel and a bid hasn’t been forthcoming.

Given the rejection of Bayern’s bid, however, that could spur Tottenham into action.

Tottenham Hotspur need to have a decent transfer window this summer if they’re to improve on their fifth placed finish last season.

The North Londoners looked odds on at one point to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but they were eventually beaten to the post by Aston Villa.

Just two points separated them from Unai Emery’s side at the end of the campaign, and with Spurs losing five of their last seven matches in the English top-flight, winning the other two against relegated Burnley and Sheffield United, they’ve really only got themselves to blame.

That’s all in the past of course, and Ange Postecoglou will surely want everyone to be looking forward and willing to correct the mistakes of the past 12 months.

The squad started like a house on fire under the Australian and it wasn’t long before his name was heartily being sung from the stands, however, the longer the season went on, the more marked the drop off in performance became.

Tottenham are willing to sell Sergio Reguilon for just £10m

One player that can’t be blamed for Spurs’ malaise is Sergio Reguilon, as he was sent on loan to Man United and then Brentford for the entirety of the campaign.

Now Football Insider are reporting that the North Londoners are looking to cash in. That said, the outlet suggest a fee of just £10m will be enough to prise him from Tottenham, who paid a whopping £32m for him back in 2020.

It isn’t clear at this point if there are any interested parties, even though they might consider Reguilon as a bargain signing.

At 27, it’s generally thought to be about the time a player peaks, and with years still ahead of him in the game, £10m is peanuts.

Any sale would get his wages off the books too, and would leave Tottenham in the enviable position of being able to utilise those funds elsewhere.

It seems fairly clear that Emerson Royal doesn’t have a future under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, but that hasn’t stopped the North Londoners rejecting a first approach from Italian giants AC Milan.

CaughtOffside sources with knowledge of the situation understand that the Rossoneri’s opening offer for the 25-year-old Brazilian was in the region of €14m.

Milan want Tottenham ace Emerson Royal

It’s thought that they will come back in with another, slightly higher, bid of €17m/€18m as it’s believed that the player’s wish is to sign for them.

Notwithstanding this, Milan’s Serie A competitors, Inter Milan and Juventus, are also circling and intentioned to understand the player’s salary and contract requirements.

Emerson Royal’s former club, Barcelona, are thought to be considering entering the picture if they’re unable to secure Joao Cancelo on another loan deal from Man City.

The Cityzens would apparently prefer a straight sale rather than another loan, though it’s understood Cancelo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, remains in discussions over his client’s next move.

During the 2023/24 campaign, the right-back made 24 appearances for Spurs, per WhoScored, though 11 of those were from the bench.

Significantly, he only played 90 minutes on 10 occasions, and just two of those came in this calendar year.

It’s therefore obvious why the player himself may feel that his future is elsewhere, and it’s in Tottenham’s best interests to accede to any sale.

With there potentially being just a €3m gap between the valuations that Spurs and Milan currently put on the player, there’s certainly room for negotiation and more than enough time to get a deal done in this window.

By allowing Emerson Royal to move on, this will free up some money in the wage bill for Ange Postecoglou to strengthen in other areas of the squad as needed.

With Julen Lopetegui installed as West Ham’s new head coach, it’s clearly going to be an important summer for the Hammers in terms of transfers in and out of the club.

The East Londoners landed the Spaniard and he will clearly expect certain targets to be landed if the club want him to be able to take them forward, perhaps even to the promised land of the Champions League.

It’s believed that after promises were not delivered at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lopetegui walked out on the club, and one can imagine that if the same scenario starts to develop at the London Stadium he won’t hang around there either.

It’s vital that Lopetegui is able to get the right blend of youth and experience in his squad, and a mixture of silky football players as well as those who are more dogged.

If he’s able to bring back a more attacking style too, that will quickly endear him to the London Stadium faithful who seemingly had become disillusioned with David Moyes’ way of playing, despite the Scot leading them to a stunning Europa Conference League title.

West Ham to offer Ben Johnson a new deal

One player that has already turned down multiple offers to stay at the club according to The Athletic (subscription required) is 24-year-old, Ben Johnson.

He’s set to become a free agent at the end of June, with Tottenham ready to pounce (HITC).

From having one foot out of the exit door of the London Stadium, the offer has now given him some real food for thought.

Time will tell if it’s too little, too late from the Hammers or an 11th hour masterstroke.

Back at the start of the year when Ivan Toney had just returned to the Brentford starting line-up after his ban, the chatter appeared to be that it was a foregone conclusion that the 28-year-old would be heading to Germany with England.

His four goals in his opening five games, per WhoScored, only strengthened that notion.

Paying top dollar for his services if he was going to move on from West London also didn’t necessarily appear to be out of the question.

Since that purple patch in late January/early February, however, the striker has gone right off the boil.

Ivan Toney’s value slashed by half

To that end his transfer fee will have been revised significantly as Thomas Frank will know that the club can no longer market him as a £100m player, which they were back in November according to Sky Sports.

He’d arguably be nearer the £40m-£50m bracket nowadays, and with Tottenham Hotspur apparently looking for a striker, there’s a possibility that Toney could fit the bill.

However, rumours linking the Lilywhites with the Bees hit-man appear wide of the mark, at least for now.

Ivan Toney to Tottenham?

“Although it’s expected that Tottenham will sign a striker this summer, there’s no concrete update yet on Ivan Toney, despite reports,” Fabrizio Romano said to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing.

“He might be one of the strikers being considered at Spurs but no final decision on their top target has been made yet.

“Tottenham’s priority was to decide what to do with Timo Werner, and now they will move into next targets.”

If Spurs were able to acquire Toney for a reasonable market value, there’s no reason why he couldn’t resurrect his career under Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian has shown that he can motivate his players to play some brilliant football, and arguably Toney is a better marksman than Richarlison has been for the North Londoners.

With James Maddison providing a supplementary attacking presence and the likes of Timo Werner and Heung Min-son alongside, Toney should find goals easy to come by if he moves to North London.

Time will tell if the club consider him to be the right man for the job moving forward.

Former Tottenham Hotspur ace, Jamie Redknapp, really laid into his old club after they succumbed to Pep Guardiola’s Man City on Tuesday night.

A win for the Lilywhites would not only have strengthened their claims for a Champions League place next season, but would’ve seriously dented City’s hopes of retaining their Premier League crown for an unprecedented fourth consecutive season.

Redknapp’s contention that the club appeared more concerned with stopping Arsenal winning the title, as well as having a superb ground but not the standard of players needed to win trophies, will have really hit home.
