According to Alan Hutton, Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is considering a potential swap deal involving Djed Spence to bring Albert Gudmundsson to the club.
The 26-year-old Gudmundsson, a star in Serie A, is expected to draw a lot of interest from English teams during the upcoming transfer window.
Teams across Europe, particularly in Italy and England, have their sights set on the Icelandic talent.
Gudmundsson is a flexible player who can play on either side of the attack as a winger but mostly as a second striker or attacking midfielder.
Tottenham maintain a strong relationship with Italian club Genoa after the signing of Radu Dragusin in January.
Former Spurs player Hutton believes that the club could use Spence in a deal to sign Gudmundsson from the Serie A club to lower the price of the player.
While speaking to Tottenham News, Hutton said:
“It’s going to be down to the manager I would have thought.
“I think Ange Postecoglou will have a big say on it and how he sees Djed Spence’s future moving forward at the club. It’s been a difficult one for him, we’ve spoken about it many times and I do actually like him as a player.
“I’m not sure he can play in that position as an attacking full-back going into the number 10 role but the manager will know for sure. If they’re looking for somebody else in a different position and they can use him to get that deal over the line, then I’m sure that’s something they’ll look at.
“Daniel Levy is very good when it comes to those sort of deals and making things happen so I think there will be a lot on the table for them to look at and then decide what they’re going to do.”
It will not be wrong to suggest that Spence is currently not in the plans of Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham need a new attacker
The Spurs boss has the option of playing Pedro Porro in the right-back position and his attacking ability gives him edge over other right-backs at the club.
The North London club is in a desperate need of signing an attacker since goals have been difficult to come after the departure of Harry Kane in the summer.
The Premier League club should go ahead with this deal as it favours them hugely.
