Manchester United signed Sofyan Amrabat on loan from the Italian club Fiorentina last summer.

The Moroccan international had an exceptional World Cup campaign in Qatar and that prompted the Red Devils to sign the player. However, the 27-year-old failed to live up to the expectations at Old Trafford last year and Manchester United are uninterested in triggering the option in his contract.

The Red Devils have the option to sign him permanently for a fee of around €20 million. However, they will not pay that kind of money for the Moroccan and they are looking to discuss new terms.

According to Fabrizio Romano, they have already informed the Italian club of their decision.

It appears that the Red Devils want to keep the player at the club and Erik ten Hag likes him, but they want to do so for a knockdown price. It will be interesting to see if Fiorentina are willing to lower their demands and let the 27-year-old move on.

Sofyan Amrabat could be a useful option

Manchester United need quality and depth in the middle of the park, and the 27-year-old could be a useful option for them. After a season in the Premier League, Amrabat will have surely had some time to adapt to English football, and he will be determined to make his mark next year.

Manchester United need a deeper squad in order to do well in multiple competitions and someone like Amrabat would be a handy option to have for the right price. Meanwhile, other European clubs are keen on signing the 27-year-old Moroccan international as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Fiorentina will certainly hope to sell him to the highest bidder this summer and recoup as much as possible. Amrabat does not have a future at the Serie A club and he will want to move on as well.

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is reportedly not training with the Serie A club at the moment as he still hopes to get a permanent transfer to Manchester United following his loan spell there last season.

The Morocco international has long been highly regarded in the game, though he perhaps didn’t give the best account of himself at Old Trafford last term, even if he showed some signs of improvement as the campaign went on.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Amrabat is keen to stay at Man Utd or join another Premier League club, so it could be that we’ll be seeing him back in English football soon.

It certainly seems that Amrabat doesn’t want to stay with Fiorentina as he has been absent from the start to their pre-season, so it will be interesting to see if this prompts United to formalise a move soon.

Sofyan Amrabat’s Manchester United future has still not been decided

Amrabat transfer: What Fabrizio Romano has told us about Man Utd’s plans

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column last week, Fabrizio Romano provided us with some insight into the Amrabat situation, as he said a final decision could come some time this week.

“There will also be a decision next week on Sofyan Amrabat, so it depends on United, they will decide next week,” Romano said in a section on the latest Man Utd transfer news.

“This is what all sources say, it’s not clear yet because it only depends on United decision.

“The player has already given his green light to the move. In any case, he could leave Fiorentina because he wants to try a different project.”

MUFC fans will likely be divided on this, with some feeling their club could do better, while others will be patient enough to give him another chance to show what he can do after a year to settle in Manchester.

Man United to decide on Sofyan Amrabat next week, plus more ins and outs at Old Trafford

Willy Kambwala is leaving Manchester United on a permanent transfer to Villarreal. The young defender had one year left on his contract and wasn’t negotiating a new deal, he wanted to play and now he’s going to play in Spain. Villarreal are set to pay €10m to Manchester United, and then give a five-year contract to the player, with a sell-on clause and also a buy-back clause for Man United.

The medical is expected to take place in the next 24-48 hours, with Man United keeping control of the player for the future, and this happens as they continue to make progress on the Matthijs de Ligt deal. Meanwhile, another departure from United we already know about is Raphael Varane, and he has now said yes to a move to Como, subject to a medical.

There will also be a decision next week on Sofyan Amrabat, so it depends on United, they will decide next week. This is what all sources say, it’s not clear yet because it only depends on United decision. The player has already given his green light to the move. In any case, he could leave Fiorentina because he wants to try a different project.

There have also been transfer rumours about Man United and Xavi Simons. My understanding remains that two clubs are still leading the race – Bayern and RB Leipzig. These two clubs are pushing, and their advantage is that they have been pushing for a long time, for the last few months.

Xavi Simons has already decided to leave Paris Saint-Germain on loan, and he will probably leave on a permanent transfer next summer. It’s 99% over between PSG and Simons, and as I’ve said before, one key figure to watch is Max Eberl, the former Leipzig director who’s now at Bayern, as he’s pushing to sign Simons again after bringing him on loan to Leipzig last year.

Leipzig, however, are also in the race and can offer Simons a role as an important part of their squad. The Dutch midfielder had a very good loan there last season, they are an ambitious club, as they’ve shown by keeping Benjamin Sesko, and so they want to try to keep Simons as well.

So what about United? It’s true that they have an interest in Simons, and they asked for information on his situation after confirming that Erik ten Hag is staying as manager. They are not leading the race because they joined quite late, as both Bayern and Leipzig have been there since April. Another club to ask about Simons was Newcastle, but again this was late, just a few days ago, so this is why Bayern and Leipzig remain the two favourites.

Finally on United, Jadon Sancho keeps being linked with Juventus, though some reports now also suggest they have switched their focus elsewhere. My understanding is that no decision has been made yet on the winger. The first step for Juventus is selling Federico Chiesa and/or Matias Soule, then they will decide which winger they want to sign. Man United will discuss the Sancho situation in the next days, he’s now back with the squad and his feeling with Erik ten Hag in the next weeks will be important to understand more on his future.

Julian Alvarez set for talks over Manchester City future

Another important player to watch this summer will be Julian Alvarez. For now his focus is on the final of Copa America with Argentina, but then there will be a discussion between the player and Manchester City. So far, there has been no intention form Man City to negotiate for Alvarez, they didn’t want to set a price for him.

Although City’s stance has been that they don’t want to let Alvarez go, the player wants to play more. So now City will have to decide, after meeting with Alvarez and his agent, what they want to do next. Clubs like Paris Saint-Germain are waiting to see what will happen with Alvarez, but they don’t want to waste a lot of time in a long negotiation, so they want Man City to decide soon.

Still, for sure the interest from PSG is still there, and Alvarez’s future will depend on the talks with Man City, which will happen very soon after Copa America. Still, I can confirm once again that it won’t be an easy deal because City want to keep Alvarez at the club.

Barcelona focusing on Nico Williams as Aston Villa swoop for Amadou Onana

Soon it’s going to be time to decide the future of Nico Williams, whose time at the Euros will be coming to an end tonight as he prepares for the final clash between Spain and England. Barcelona had an interest in Everton’s Amadou Onana, but he’s now close to joining Aston Villa instead as Barca wanted to save their budget for Nico Williams.

Barcelona really like Onana and spent months discussing this possibility, but they didn’t make a bid and they won’t make a bid at the last minute of the negotiations. Barca want to focus on Nico Williams, and they want to be fast, because they know that top English clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on his situation.

Barcelona now want to start to advance and to push for Williams next week, but one crucial detail is that they might also need to sell one player to make space for Financial Fair Play. They are waiting for the approval of La Liga, though Joan Laporta has already said publicly that they can afford Williams, so they will go for it in the next days, but selling one player could help them to be faster.

It’s really concrete – Barca want to use their budget for Williams, he’s the top target approved by new manager Hansi Flick, and so things are hotting up on this story.

Credit as well to Aston Villa because they did an excellent job on Onana. They had the most concrete interest and they worked well behind the scenes to present the proposal at the right moment. There was interest from Barcelona, but also from PSG, though their focus is on dream target Joao Neves.

In other news…

Riccardo Calafiori – The Bologna defender is still waiting for Arsenal as the clubs try to reach an agreement on the transfer fee. If it goes through it should be a superb signing for Arsenal as Calafiori is an excellent defender – he can play centre-back or left-back, has an excellent left foot, can provide assists and score goals as he did for Bologna last season. Quality is the best word to describe him. He’s a centre-back but has quality to help the squad in the build up like midfielders.

Pepe – Veteran Porto and Portugal defender Pepe has not decided anything on his future yet, despite links with La Liga club Celta Vigo. He’s considering many options, and in June he was always approached by Saudi clubs, but at the moment he’s still not decided anything and he wants to take his time.

Euro 2024 final – I’m not good at score predictions so I leave this one, but I’m really looking forward to tonight’s final between Spain and England. I’m sure the game is going to be on players like Phil Foden and Lamine Yamal. More than in midfield, quality on the wing is gonna be key to win individual duels and win the game. It’s going to be exciting between two top teams, two closely-matched sides, and I could see it even going to penalties!

Manchester United will make a decision on Sofyan Amrabat’s future next week, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano in the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for today’s piece, Romano explained that Amrabat himself has given the green light to the potential permanent move to Old Trafford after spending last season on loan in Manchester.

Amrabat is still a Fiorentina player for now, but Romano says the Morocco international wants to leave for a new challenge, so it could be that we’ll see him extending his stay at Man Utd, even if fans will likely be divided about how he performed for Erik ten Hag’s side last season.

Although there were some signs of improvement from Amrabat as the season went on, it remains to be seen if he’s really done enough to convince key figures at the club that it’s worth keeping him permanently, so it will be interesting to see what decision is made in the coming week.

Amrabat transfer update from Fabrizio Romano’s latest column

“There will also be a decision next week on Sofyan Amrabat, so it depends on United, they will decide next week,” Romano said in a section on the latest Man Utd transfer news.

“This is what all sources say, it’s not clear yet because it only depends on United decision.

“The player has already given his green light to the move. In any case, he could leave Fiorentina because he wants to try a different project.”

MUFC could do with strengthening in midfield as Casemiro hasn’t been at his best for some time now, so signing Amrabat could be a good, safe option, even if many fans will also feel there are probably better and more ambitious targets the Red Devils could be going for in that area of the pitch.

Manchester United have been linked with a permanent move for Sofyan Amrabat this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will make a decision on the player next week. The Red Devils have an option to sign in permanently, but the club hierarchy are yet to decide on the move.

The 27-year-old was on loan at Old Trafford last season and he was quite underwhelming with his performances. It remains to be seen whether Manchester United are prepared to give him another opportunity to showcase his qualities at Old Trafford.

The Moroccan was a key player for his club during the 2022 World Cup, and there is no doubt that he has the quality to thrive in the Premier League as well. Amrabat could add presence, defensive cover and physicality to the Manchester United midfield next season. The 27-year-old is likely to be available for a reasonable price as well.

He will be determined to prove his worth in English football, and he will look to make an instant impact at Old Trafford if the move goes through.

Man United could use Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United need more quality and depth at their disposal and signing the 27-year-old could prove to be a good decision.

Amrabat remains a quality player regardless of how he performed last season. Manchester United need more quality in the side if they want to push for major trophies next season and signing the 27-year-old for a reasonable amount of money could prove to be a decent investment.

He has the quality and Amrabat will look to use his experience from competing in the Premier League last season and improve on that. The player wants to leave Fiorentina permanently and he is waiting for Manchester United to sign him this summer. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils are willing to fulfil his wish.

Manchester United signed Sofyan Amrabat on loan last season but the midfielder failed to live up to the expectations at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old had an underwhelming spell on loan at the Premier League club and he has returned to his parent club Fiorentina now.

The Red Devils had an option to sign in permanently this summer but they have chosen not to exercise it.

However, a report from Corriere dello Sport claims that the 27-year-old Moroccan international dreams of a return to Manchester United this summer

The midfielder shares an amicable relationship with Erik ten Hag and Manchester United’s decision to continue with the Dutch manager has given him hope of a return to Old Trafford.

Fiorentina reportedly want €15 million for the midfielder and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United decide to sign him. They could certainly use more quality and depth in the middle of the park and the Moroccan international could be a useful squad player.

His performances were underwhelming in the Premier League last season but he has previously shown his quality in Serie A and during the 2022 World Cup with his country. He could be a vital member of the Manchester United squad if he manages to recapture his confidence and form.

Sofyan Amrabat wants to return to Man United.

Amrabat could be a bargain buy for Man United

Manchester United certainly have the financial resources to pay the €15 million asking price for him and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

He will add defensive cover, work rate and drive to the Manchester United midfield. The Red Devils could certainly use some physicality and defensive steel in the middle of the park and Amrabat would be the ideal acquisition for them if he can get back to his best.

The reported asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his quality and he should be able to justify the investment in the coming seasons.

Alexander Isak too expensive for Chelsea

We’ve had many rumours about Alexander Isak and Chelsea, with contacts taking place with Newcastle, and from what I’m told Chelsea are 100% aware of the situation with the Swedish striker – he is considered absolutely too expensive. We already know that Chelsea felt Nico Williams and Michael Olise were too expensive.

Newcastle would ask for crazy money for Isak, he has a long term contract at the club, and they are also thinking internally at the moment about offering him a new deal. Eddie Howe and the owners want him to stay at the club, so at the moment there is no movement – there is interest from many clubs, of course, but nothing concrete as he’s expected to stay at Newcastle.

Isak’s idea is also to continue at Newcastle, so let’s see what happens with a possible new contract, but for now I certainly wouldn’t read too much into links with Chelsea as it’s too expensive for them and he’s considered untouchable by Newcastle.

Still, Chelsea have informed Barcelona of their intention to trigger the release clause of Marc Guiu, and they have an agreement with the player, so it’s ‘here we go’ for that deal. Chelsea went for Guiu in a strong way and now it’s just about the final steps as they prepare the formal documents. They are working to pay the release clause this week, then Guiu will sign a long-term contract at Chelsea until June 2030.

Chelsea’s intention is to then have Guiu staying at Stamford Bridge to be part of the first-team squad under Enzo Maresca. Guiu really wanted to move and the deal will happen soon, also after Barcelona tried to offer the player a new deal.

Victor Osimhen transfer saga could run until later in the summer

Another striker we continue to hear a lot about is Victor Osimhen, but the reality is that it still looks quiet on this story. I think this is a situation we have to follow in July/August, rather than this week, even if there have been some rumours about his asking price changing.

Napoli are never an ‘easy club’ when it’s time to negotiate but for sure the expectation of all parties remains the same: Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer.

This is not the case with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, however, with new manager Antonio Conte making it clear he wants the Georgia playmaker to stay at the club. But with Osimhen, let’s see what happens later in the summer as I expect he still has good chances to leave the club.

If Napoli do sell Osimhen, we may then also get a clearer idea about the future of Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea. For now there is no substantial update on Lukaku, but Chelsea insist on their intention to sell Lukaku and not to accept any loan now, so the situation is still the same, and it won’t be changing. It will take time and it will depends on clubs’ strategy.

Manuel Ugarte and others discussed between Man Utd and PSG

I spoke yesterday about Manchester United and PSG having contacts to discuss Manuel Ugarte and other players. Ugarte has chances to leave PSG this summer, so let’s see what happens with that one, but I don’t have any guaranteed info on the other players discussed, so at the moment I’m not in the position to mention specific names.

All I can say for now is that I’m told they discussed several opportunities, including Ugarte who’s appreciated by Man United. No bid has been sent yet, but interest is genuine. The relationship between the two clubs is very good, so let’s see what happens with Ugarte and if any other players get involved too.

United know that several players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could be on the move this summer, while they still have to decide what they want to do with the future of on-loan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, and so midfield is an area they’re looking at, and Ugarte is one name they appreciate.

Serhou Guirassy set to join Dortmund, but what about Premier League links?

Serhou Guirassy is set to become a new Borussia Dortmund player – it’s a ‘here we go’ because the player has given the green light to Dortmund as he’s decided to leave Stuttgart after his fantastic form there last season. Dortmund are also signing another player from Stuttgart, their centre-back Waldemar Anton. With both players, BVB are triggering their release clauses, €17.5m for Guirassy, and €22.5m for Anton.

Everything is in place for Guirassy to join Dortmund after he agreed on the contract and the salary, but we’ve also had many rumours about other clubs, including Arsenal. My understanding is that Arsenal were never really interested in Guirassy as they’re looking at a different kind of player. Same for Chelsea, who were linked but who were never really pushing for Guirassy, while AC Milan was another name mentioned but they’re also focusing on different players.

Many clubs were interested in Guirassy, for example West Ham, but now it’s ‘here we go’ for him to join Dortmund as we just wait for the formal steps to be finalised. Dortmund were always the clear favourites for this deal – the truth is they were planning with Guirassy to join since March. Yes, he was open to the Premier League or Serie A but BVB decided to go very strong for him and this was appreciated on the player side.

Crystal Palace pushing to sign Jobe Bellingham

Jobe Bellingham is wanted by Crystal Palace, as I’ve previously reported, and he remains one of the names on their list, alongside Antonio Nusa, as they look to replace Michael Olise, who will join Bayern Munich this week.

Bellingham is also wanted by Brentford and other English clubs, but I would keep an eye on Palace because they are pushing. Their manager Oliver Glasner wants Bellingham, and so now it depends on the player, because if he gives the green light they are prepared to go strong on this one.

As soon as Bellingham decides, together with his family, Palace are prepared to attack the situation. Contacts have been taking place already, and he’s absolutely one of their dream targets, so keep an eye on this one.

Jakub Kiwior appreciated by Serie A trio

Jakub Kiwior has been linked with a possible exit from Arsenal again, and he’s always being linked with Italian clubs after his impressive form when he was in Serie A with Spezia.

However, it’s not something concrete or close so far. AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli all appreciate Kiwior, they know him well since he was at Spezia but that’s it at the moment. Arsenal have still received no formal proposal for Kiwior and he remains a player trusted by Mikel Arteta.

Edmond Tapsoba eyed by PSG but they may move for cheaper alternative

Edmond Tapsoba is on the list of targets for PSG this summer, alongside players like Lutsharel Geertruida of Feyenoord.

However, it’s gone a bit quiet recently because Tapsoba is very expensive and Bayer Leverkusen want to keep him, while Geertruida can leave for a cheaper price and so could be attractive for PSG, as they already started contract talks with his agents.

Man United star Sofyan Amrabat wants to remain in England for the upcoming season despite his impending exit from Old Trafford.

The midfielder spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at United from Fiorentina and didn’t impress enough for the Manchester club to keep him permanently. The Red Devils will reportedly send the 27-year-old back to Italy this summer, where he will search again for a new club.

Fiorentina want Amrabat to remain at the club, but according to their sporting director Daniele Parde, the Morocco international wants to stay in the Premier League.

“I would keep him in Florence but it doesn’t seem like what he has that in mind,” Parde said via talkSPORT.

“I think he wants to stay in the Premier League but we haven’t heard from anyone yet.”

Man United are yet to confirm if they will keep the midfielder or not, with the English giants having the option to make his loan deal permanent with a £25m transfer fee.

This season was a tough one for Amrabat, despite an improvement in his performances towards the end of the campaign. However, that is unlikely to earn him a permanent move to Old Trafford over the summer.

Amrabat featured in 30 matches for Man United this season, 17 of which came from the start.

At £25m, the Morocco star is worth taking a risk on but with United having financial restrictions for the upcoming window, they will need to prioritise other areas to strengthen for now.

The midfield in Erik ten Hag’s squad needs work, but whether the Premier League giants feel Amrabat is the man to help with that remains to be seen as the 27-year-old’s future will become clearer over the coming weeks.

United slumped to an eighth placed finish last season, their lowest in Premier League history, and also suffered an embarrassing elimination in the group stage of the Champions League.

The Red Devils salvaged their campaign by beating Manchester City to win the FA Cup, which means they will play Europa League football next season.

Fabregas believes something is wrong at Old Trafford

A number of players really struggled to show their best form at Old Trafford last season with Casemiro having a particularly difficult season and Marcus Rashford failing to hit the heights of his 2022-2023 campaign.

Fabregas, a Premier League winner with Chelsea believes the good times will return at United, but believes it’s a worry three “top” players have struggled.

The Spaniard singled out the how the struggles of the Brazilian, fellow midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and Jadon Sancho shows something isn’t right on the red side of Manchester.

Fabregas believes the struggles of Casemiro and Amrabat shows something’s not right at Old Trafford.

“Manchester United will come back because they are a big team but look at Jadon Sancho,” Fabregas told the BBC’s Planet Premier League podcast.

“He’s not doing well at United, he goes to Dortmund and he looks again like the player we all thought he was going to be.

“Look at the midfielder that impressed for Morocco at the World Cup [Amrabat], he was fantastic, and then he goes to Man United and he’s not been the same player.

“Casemiro won Champions League after Champions League at Real Madrid, he was the best defensive midfielder in the world and then he goes to Manchester United and looks like a completely different player.

“Obviously it makes me think that something is wrong there.

“It’s not a coincidence that three top, top players come in and they are not good all of a sudden.”

United are currently deciding on the future of Erik ten Hag, with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank linked with the Old Trafford hot seat if it becomes vacant.

Man United will part ways with Fiorentina loanee Sofyan Amrabat this summer and are not expected to change their minds in light of the midfielder’s impressive display in the FA Cup final.

The Morocco star joined the Manchester club on loan from Fiorentina last summer and the 2023/24 campaign was an underwhelming one for the 27-year-old.

Amrabat featured in 30 matches for Man United this season, 17 of which came from the start.

The Fiorentina loanee was not a big part of Erik ten Hag’s plans throughout the campaign as the rise of Kobbie Mainoo meant the youngster was one of the first names on the Dutch coach’s teamsheet.

However, the Moroccan gained more minutes as the term was coming to its conclusion and Amrabat put in an impressive display in the FA Cup final as Man United defeated Man City 2-1.

Despite this, the Premier League giants will not change their minds about the midfielder and will send him back to Fiorentina reports Football Insider.

Sofyan Amrabat faces uncertain future following Man United rejection

The report states that the reason Man United will not sign Amrabat permanently this summer is because they believe that the midfielder is not suited to Premier League football. The Red Devils had a £21.4m option-to-buy clause in his loan deal, which is not a lot of money for a club the size of the Manchester outfit.

The Moroccan now faces an uncertain future as his contract with Fiorentina expires in 2025. This summer would be the ideal time for the Italian club to sell him as they will not want to lose the player for nothing next summer.

The 27-year-old captured the attention of a lot of clubs with his displays for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, but Amrabat has never reached those heights since.
