Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has heaped praise on the Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

The 20-year-old Manchester United prospect has burst onto the international scene with Argentina and he seems to have impressed the senior players with his talent and application.

Mac Allister heaped praise on the Premier League winger and labelled him as an exciting talent. The Liverpool star also explained that he could be a key player for Argentina in future. However, Mac Allister has warned that talents like Garnacho will have to be managed carefully and they cannot be burdened with too many responsibilities right now.

Speaking of Valentin Carboni and Garnacho, he said (h/t FC Inter News): “He and Garnacho are two players who can give a lot to Argentina. They excite us a lot. We have a lot of hope for their future. We can’t burden them with too many expectations at the moment, but in the future they will give us a lot”.

Alejandro Garnacho is a top class talent.
Alejandro Garnacho is crucial to Man United’s long-term project.

Alejandro Garnacho is an elite prospect

The 20-year-old is already impressing at the club level at a fairly regular basis and he will hope to establish himself as a regular starter for the Red Devils in the upcoming season. It remains to be seen whether he can make his mark at the international level with Argentina as well.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool midfielder has been a key player for the club since joining them from Brighton and Hove Albion at the start of last season. Mac Allister has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the league and he has been an indispensable asset for the Reds. He will hope to build on his impressive debut season with Liverpool and help them push for major trophies in the upcoming campaign.

As far as Garnacho is concerned, he is an elite prospect with a big future ahead of himself. He will look to continue his development with regular football at Manchester United and fulfil his world-class potential in the coming seasons.

It takes a humble man to admit when they’re wrong and that’s not a description normally attributed to forthright broadcaster, Stan Collymore, however, the former professional admitted that he got his FA Cup prediction completely wrong whilst admitting Man United’s players did their club proud.

Buy Last Minute Tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final!

Pep Guardiola’s Man City side were expected to wipe the floor with the disjointed Red Devils, but to the surprise of almost everyone, they were worthy winners at Wembley on Saturday.

“I genuinely couldn’t see how Man United could win that FA Cup final. It was fertile ground for Man City. Premier League Champions, no Champions League final to worry about, nice and relaxed and ready to go out and play a team that was fractured and not playing well,” Collymore admitted in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

“I should’ve known better really. Whatever vintage it is, Man United (or Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona for that matter) manage to compete.

“I was genuinely shocked because I thought that they would play within within themselves. I didn’t expect them to come out and be like ‘okay, we’ll have a really good go at this’ because I haven’t seen enough big characters or enough personalities in the dressing room throughout the season to suggest that this would be the case. Secondly, obviously with it being a derby game, they showed up to that as well.

“I’m more than happy to hold my hand up and say that I got it completely wrong and I thought that they did the club proud.”

It was a real shot in the arm for manager, Erik ten Hag, too. The Dutchman has been saying for virtually the entire season that if his squad is fully fit, they can stand toe-to-toe with the best of them.

Ten Hag cannot lead this Man United team – Collymore

Whether that was him just talking his players up or not is a moot point, though he can bask in the afterglow of a job well done against, let’s not forget, arguably the best team in the world at present.

Even though ten Hag walked out of Wembley with his head held high, Collymore still doesn’t believe that he’s the right man to take the club forward.

Erik ten Hag isn't right for Man United

“The performance was a massive positive for Erik ten Hag too so what does that mean for him? He was obviously very bullish and said ‘if United don’t want me then I’ll go and win trophies elsewhere,’ but that’s a bit rich really because he’s only been in Holland before United so he’s not exactly won the Champions League,” he added.

“I think that if you asked me who would do a better job with the youngsters and the seniors at Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag, I’d go for Pochettino every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

“It’s great that ten Hag managed to get the players to go out and play for the shirts because that’s always important for Manchester United fans, but I think that there will be an element of dropping the ball if Sir Jim Ratcliffe, INEOS and Sir Dave Brailsford all of a sudden now thought that one performance meant ten Hag was the right man to lead the charge towards a title tilt.

“There has been nothing in Manchester United’s league season to suggest that Erik ten Hag had control of the dressing room in the way that he did for 90 minutes in a one-off final.”

If the powers that be at the club are going to go down a different path, then things need to be put into place soonest.

The European Championship is just around the corner, and by the time it finishes, it will almost be time for players to reconvene for pre-season.

United have to hit the ground running from the first game, and in order to do that, all facets surrounding the first team must be in place and locked down well before pre-season begins.

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho may miss the beginning of the new Premier League season due to his involvement in multiple international tournaments this summer.

Garnacho, who had an impressive season with Manchester United, has been called up to the Argentina national team for the Copa America.

Buy Last Minute Tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final!

The tournament, which runs through June and July, is a significant commitment for the 19-year-old.

Busy summer for Garnacho

According to TNT Sports Argentina, Garnacho has also been included in Argentina’s squad for the Olympics in Paris, scheduled from July 24 to August 10.

Javier Mascherano, the former Liverpool star and current manager of Argentina’s Olympic football team, has specifically requested Garnacho’s participation.

The back-to-back schedules of the Copa America and the Olympics mean that Garnacho will have next to no time for rest and recovery in between.

The Sun reports that given the short turnaround between the Olympics and the start of the Premier League season on August 17, Garnacho is likely to miss United’s pre-season preparations and possibly the opening couple of matches of the new campaign, as he will be expected to take a short recovery break post Olympics.

Garnacho could miss the start of next season

Manchester United will face a tough decision. While the club would benefit from Garnacho’s presence from the start of the season, allowing him to participate in the Olympics could further his development and would also fulfil the player’s individual desire.

Considering the player’s potential and the prestige of representing his country at the Olympics, United might be inclined to grant him permission.

Garnacho has quickly become a fan favourite at Old Trafford. His absence would be a significant blow for United, who will be looking to make a strong start to the INEOS era.

Lisandro Martinez has warned Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho he won’t let the pair get carried away following their impressive performances in the FA Cup final.

The teenage stars were brilliant for Manchester United at Wembley, as they both scored in the 2-1 over Manchester City, which saw United get their hands on the famous trophy for the first time since 2016.

Garnacho pounced on a mix up between Stefan Ortega in the City goal and Josko Gvardiol to open the scoring,  before Mainoo doubled the lead as he finished off a brilliant team move, while Jeremy Doku pulled one back late on to set up a nervy finish.

Martinez warns Mainoo and Garnacho not to get carried away

United perhaps saved their best performance of the season until last, with their two teenage stars front and centre of their brilliant performance.

Martinez, who was starting just his 11th game of what has been an injury ravaged season hailed the impact of the youngsters, but also warned them to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

The Argentine was asked about the teenage stars in an interview with Sony Sports Network after the final.

Martinez has warned United’s teenage stars to keep their feet on the ground.

“They deserve it”, he said.

“For sure, we need to show them the way, how to do it, because it’s difficult for them, for their age, to control, because they become famous and this kind of thing.

“So it’s really important to show them, to teach them, how to go out in a good way.

“So now, keep control, celebrate, but with control.”

The Argentina international was also asked if he felt United could use the FA Cup win as a building block to take into next season.

“One hundred per cent”, he added.

“Now it’s like the door is open and we need to learn about this season and we need to believe.

“We need to believe like today, football is mental and it’s about emotion, we need to believe.

“That’s it, and we have to look forward and dream big.”

Winning the FA Cup ensured United ended what has been a tough season on a high, and they can perhaps take some optimism into next season.

There are still huge question marks surrounding the future of Erik ten Hag, with reports coming out before the final stating United had taken the decision to sack the 54-year-old regardless of the outcome at Wembley.

A decision on his future is likely to be taken in the coming days, with Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Kieran McKenna all touted as replacements should Ten Hag leave.

Manchester United have been praised for their ‘perfect’ performance to beat rivals Manchester City in yesterday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

The Red Devils have mostly had a pretty poor season, but at least ended the campaign with silverware thanks to a surprise 2-1 win over Man City, with Fabrizio Romano discussing the result and what it means for Erik ten Hag’s future in the latest edition of his exclusive Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside.

Man Utd fans will be celebrating the result today, but there’ll still be plenty of uncertainty about what the future holds for Ten Hag, whose performance as manager at Old Trafford so far is likely to leave fans divided.

Even if the Dutch tactician has delivered a domestic trophy in each of his two seasons in charge of the club, there’s no doubt that this season’s 8th place finish is far from good enough, while the team were also very disappointing in the Champions League, finishing bottom of their group.

Romano is not yet sure what United will do with Ten Hag, as he played down reports that the former Ajax boss’ future had already been decided even before this impressive cup final victory.

Ten Hag and Man Utd – what happens next?

Will Erik ten Hag survive as Manchester United manager?

“Congratulations to Manchester United as they won the FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City. I was there at Wembley for this very special moment especially for the young goal-scorers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, but also for many other players who showed great leadership and made it a perfect afternoon for Man United at Wembley,” Romano said.

“I thought it was an excellent performance by Man United, it was not easy at all but they were perfect on the day and I think deserved to lift the trophy. Man City were just not on their best day, probably tired after such a big effort to win the Premier League title.

“But it’s also an important moment for Erik ten Hag, who has won another trophy with United after also picking up the Carabao Cup last season, while the result also brings the Red Devils into the Europa League for next season. Still, it comes amid uncertainty around Ten Hag’s future, so what’s the situation?

“Firstly, Ten Hag was not happy with some of the media reports that he was already 100% out of Manchester United before even playing this game. He doesn’t understand how it’s possible to see rumours like this coming out before a cup final, it’s not respectful to his job.

“But also the reality is that United never communicated anything to Ten Hag – they never informed him of any decision to sack him, there hasn’t been any formal process yet. Behind the scenes at United, there have been some meetings with representatives of some managers who wanted to understand what is the situation with Ten Hag, so although United have started some of the process to find a new coach, they never decided what to do with Ten Hag.

“It remains an open situation and let’s see what happens after this special afternoon at Wembley, but at the same time I can confirm that United had conversations with representatives of managers to explore a potential new era without Ten Hag at the club.”

Ortega came off his line to meet the ball, but Gvardiol attempted to head it back to him.

Instead, it flew over the City goalkeeper, allowing Garnacho to run onto it and tap it into an empty net.

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has named a provisional squad of 29 players for the 2024 Copa America.

The squad will be cut to 26 players following Argentina’s two friendlies in the USA next month – against Ecuador (June 9 in Chicago) and Guatemala (June 14 in Washington).

Argentina’s first game at this year’s Copa America will then take place on June 20 against Canada in Atlanta. Chile and Peru are the other teams in Group A.

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi will captain Argentina this summer. Messi is one of only two players in the latest squad who are currently based outside of Europe.

The other is River Plate goalkeeper Franco Armani.

Meanwhile, 10 members of Argentina’s 29-man party are presently registered to clubs in England’s Premier League.

Two from Manchester United, two from Tottenham

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has been called up despite featuring just twice in his club’s final nine league games of the season due to a calf injury.

Martinez will travel to international duty with 19-year-old United teammate Alejandro Garnacho, who provided seven goals and four assists in 36 league outings this term.

Tottenham Hotspur will also provide two players to the Argentina cause.

Centre-back Cristian Romero is expected to be a key player for his country this summer – just as he was at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he started in six of Argentina’s seven games.

The other Spurs player in the squad is midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. He started only four Premier League games this season but featured as a substitute 18 times.

Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez, Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel, Liverpool playmaker Alexis Mac Allister, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez and Brighton teenager Valentin Barco have also been called up.

The upcoming summer transfer window is a big one for Man United and the Premier League giants are open to selling many of their stars, which includes Marcus Rashford.

The transfer window will be the first overseen by new part owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as the INEOS CEO begins his journey to take Man United back to the top of English football.

The British businessman will first need to decide whether Erik ten Hag will keep his job or not, and once that is done, everyone can begin to plan the squad for the 2024/25 campaign.

According to The Telegraph, Man United will be operating a “sell-to-buy” policy this summer if the club misses out on European football entirely, so restricted are their finances after a £555m spend over the previous three summers and the limits imposed by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Most of the Manchester club’s squad is up for sale, with the report stating that Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are the only players off limits as United hope to build a highly successful team in the years to come around the trio.

Many fans of the Premier League giants will be eager to see what happens with Marcus Rashford’s future as the winger is on the transfer list following a poor season.

Manchester United will not sell Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester United will not sell Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Man United willing to sell Marcus Rashford this summer

The report says that Man United are not actively seeking to offload Marcus Rashford, but will consider it if an offer arrives for the 26-year-old.

The England star is enduring a torrid campaign after signing a new five-year contract worth £325,000-a-week last July and was recently booed off by United fans during their FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City, which indicates how supporters feel about the player’s current situation.

Those wages will turn off most clubs with Paris Saint-Germain the only club linked to the Englishman in recent months.

ESPN’s Mark Ogden reported last week that speculation linking Rashford with a move to France is wide off the mark, with the Ligue 1 leaders identifying AC Milan’s Rafael Leão as their preferred option to replace the departing Kylian Mbappé.

Man United may be stuck with the 26-year-old for another season and that is a big problem if the player continues to perform the way he has been throughout the current campaign.

Arsenal could target a new left-back this summer

As has been reported, I can confirm that it’s a possibility for Arsenal to go for a new left-back in the summer. It’s not guaranteed yet because they still have to hold more meetings to discuss their summer plans, but a new left-back is one of the possibilities for the summer transfer window.

There’s also been some speculation about the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko but my understanding is that nothing has been discussed yet with him – the full focus is on the final weeks of the season before that.

Arsenal are also the latest club being linked with Bruno Guimaraes. We know they have had midfielders like Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz on their list in recent times, but I’m not aware of anything concrete regarding Bruno at the moment, let’s see later this year.

Guimaraes has been excellent for Newcastle and so he has been linked with all the clubs in Premier League basically, which is normal, but let’s wait for concrete contacts, serious talks before mentioning ten clubs per week. He’s obviously appreciated around Europe but it’s not something happening right now.

Alejandro Garnacho incident is part of the game

Erik ten Hag and Alejandro Garnacho

The Alejandro Garnacho story has attracted a lot of interest, with reports that he’s been disciplined by Manchester United for his social media activity in the last few days.

We should remember these are young players, also not used to the big stage as super stars sometimes. Garnacho did something wrong on Twitter, he spoke to the club and the situation was regularly addressed internally. It can happen, I think it’s part of the game when you have young players and you’re not having your best season as a club.

Arda Guler has not asked to leave Real Madrid

Arda Guler has not asked Real Madrid to leave the club at the end of the season. My information is that he has not had any conversations with Real Madrid about this situation in recent days, he is only focused on the final part of the season.

Of course Guler is hoping to play more so he can help the squad in the final stages of the season, and then after that he will discuss with Real Madrid in a calm way what is the best process possible for his future, but nothing is going to be decided now, and nothing is going to be communicated now.

Guler doesn’t want to disturb Real Madrid at an important point of the season, while he’s also focusing on the Euros with the Turkish national team in the summer. After that he will discuss his situation with Real Madrid, but despite recent reports in Spain, it’s not something that’s happening now.

Adrien Rabiot and Kenan Yildiz updates

Adrien Rabiot has spoken about his future and the situation is that he won’t discuss anything before the end of the season, or better to say as soon as Juve will have guarantee to play Champions League next season. The French midfielder will be open to hear their proposal for a new contract, but talks will take place later, not now.

In general, Rabiot always been open to a different move, especially Premier League is his dream from what I’m told. But Juventus still have a chance to offer the player a new deal and keep him.

Staying with Juventus, Kenan Yildiz is set to sign a new deal with the club, but he will split from his current agents. They have different plans for the future, so this is why Yildiz won’t be represented by same agents again – that’s what I’m told, then for the details it’s up to them to share as it’s not for me to speak out on their private agreement.

Many clubs keep monitoring Yildiz, but he loves Juventus and he’s happy there so the situation is currently quiet.

Barcelona will try to keep Xavi as manager

Joan Laporta has spoken about trying to change Xavi’s mind about leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, saying he feels the situation could still be open and that there will be further talks soon.

As I’ve said before, my understanding is that Laporta will insist to keep Xavi, he will wait until the end of the season and there will be more discussions to keep Xavi at Barca beyond this season and change his mind. Let’s see if Barca will be able to make it happen, it’s only up to Xavi…nothing else.

Matteo Moretto has more on this in his column here – his information is that Xavi has no plans to change his mind and is still planning to leave, but let’s see what Barca can do to change the situation.

Transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano has had his say on the Alejandro Garnacho situation at Manchester United as he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column.

The Red Devils youngster has had a superb season overall, establishing himself as one of the most impressive young players in the Premier League, but he’s now landed himself in a bit of trouble with Erik ten Hag after some recent social media activity that seemed to criticise the manager.

Romano insists this kind of thing is normal in football, especially with young players who are still learning about being a regular for a top club, and especially when a big club like Man Utd are going through a difficult time.

Discussing the Garnacho situation, Romano attempted to calm down some of the frenzy involving the row, as these things can so often spiral out of control with the 24/7 media coverage of the modern era.

“The Alejandro Garnacho story has attracted a lot of interest, with reports that he’s been disciplined by Manchester United for his social media activity in the last few days,” Romano said.

“We should remember these are young players, also not used to the big stage as super stars sometimes. Garnacho did something wrong on Twitter, he spoke to the club and the situation was regularly addressed internally. It can happen, I think it’s part of the game when you have young players and you’re not having your best season as a club.”

Garnacho remains a fine talent who will surely continue to play regularly for United this season and beyond, with the 19-year-old hopefully able to learn from his mistakes and put this saga behind him quickly to simply focus on continuing to do his best on the pitch for his club.
