Only Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle outscored Chelsea last season.

The Blues’ Cole Palmer led the way with 25 goals per BBC Sport, with Nicolas Jackson weighing in with 17. Thereafter the goals were spread eight across the squad.

It’s evident that with a target man in situ the West Londoners could really propel themselves up the Premier League in 2024/25.

Chelsea not signing Solanke

A mobile No.9 that also thrives on service has to be a priority for Enzo Maresca and Todd Boehly, however, former Chelsea man, Dominic Solanke, won’t be that man.

Solanke, 26, scored 21 goals and provided three assists last season according to WhoScored, and has shown himself to be a willing runner for Bournemouth, and someone who works hard throughout a game.

He’ll help create chances for the team and for himself rather than expecting to be consistently fed whilst meandering up front and staying out of harms way.

Dominic Solanke is unlikely to be signed by Chelsea
Dominic Solanke is unlikely to be signed by Chelsea

Football Insider are reporting that sources have said that Solanke’s sale price of £65m is too ‘prohibitive.’

On the face of it, that’s an odd statement to be making, given that the Blues have spent a huge amount on players over the past couple of seasons.

Perhaps the very real threat of being docked points because of Financial Fair Play is now having to be taken much more seriously than before.

Of course, Chelsea are well within their rights not to be held to ransom by clubs just because it’s believed that they have the money, though it would be hard to argue against the £65m that Bournemouth want for Solanke not being market value.

One of the form strikers in the English top-flight last season, he proved on multiple occasions that he has what it takes to make a team stronger.

Unless Todd Boehly has bigger fish to fry, not moving for Solanke doesn’t make an awful lot of sense at this point.

Ange Postecoglou is reportedly determined to sign an ‘A-list’ striker before the close of the summer transfer window.

The no-nonsense Aussie has yet to replace Harry Kane following the Englishman’s high-profile move to Bayern Munich last year. And with speculation over Saudi-linked Richarlison’s future mounting, this window is expected to see Spurs go all out to sign a new number nine.

Spurs transfer news: Ange Postecoglou targeting Dominic Solanke

Despite being in talks with Lille for Jonathan David, Spurs, according to Football Insider, have also set their sights on a player closer to home.

Bournemouth forward Dominic Solanke is a striker the Lilywhites rate but his homegrown status means Daniel Levy must be prepared to pay ‘a premium price’.

Dominic Solanke to Spurs?

Spurs aren’t the only club monitoring the 27-year-old either. London rivals West Ham and Chelsea are also interested in the Baskingstoke-born hitman so competition for his signature will be fierce.

During his five years with the Cherries, Solanke, who has three years left on his deal, has scored a total of 77 goals in just over 200 appearances. His best campaign came last season when he netted 19 league goals from 37 starts.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has revealed Tyler Adams will miss the start of the new Premier League season after undergoing back surgery.

Adams joined the Cherries from Leeds United last summer in a deal worth over £20m (per BBC Sport) but has been beset by injury troubles.

The United States international was restricted to four appearances across all competitions, notching up just 118 minutes of Premier League action.

However, that didn’t stop Adams from being called into the US squad for this summer’s Copa America, with the 25-year-old playing all three group matches to the tune of 180 minutes — as well as 14 minutes in a pre-tournament friendly against Brazil.

The Stars and Stripes suffered a shock group stage exit from the tournament with back-to-back defeats to Panama (2-1) and Uruguay (1-0) after they beat Bolivia 2-0 in their opening match.

But by then, the damage was already done, with Iraola admitting Adams’ desperation to play at Copa America only serving to aggravate a back injury he picked up toward the end of the domestic season.

Tyler Adams of United States controls the ball during the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 Group C match between United States and Bolivia at AT&T Stadium on June 23, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.

“He finished the season with an injury in his back,” said the Spanish coach.

“He wanted to play Copa America because it was very important for him, but he had restrictions and was still in pain, so two days after they were knocked out, he had surgery.

“He is out for some time. It is difficult to say how long but he won’t be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don’t know.”

Pushed further on the issue of why Adams was called up in the first place, Iraola insisted the club had no say in the matter.

He added: “It was not our choice. It is a decision for the nations, who are allowed to select players, and he wanted to play thinking the injury would get better but he felt it was getting worse.”

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has admitted he ‘cannot control’ the future of star striker Dominic Solanke amid reports of a return to Chelsea.

The 26-year-old striker left the Blues for Liverpool back in 2017 but scored just one goal in 27 appearances for the Reds, subsequently joining Bournemouth in January 2019.

Even at the Vitality Stadium, it took a while for Solanke to get going but the 2023/24 campaign just gone was arguably his greatest yet, netting 21 goals across all competitions and 19 in the Premier League to finish behind only Alexander Isak (21), Cole Palmer (22) and Erling Haaland (27) in the Golden Boot race.

It will come as little surprise, then, that Solanke is now being linked with a return to Chelsea, with BBC Sport reporting that the one-time England international has a £65m release clause in his contract that can only be activated by certain clubs.

Iraola admits he ‘cannot control’ Solanke future

Dominic Solanke to return to Chelsea?

Bournemouth’s next-highest scorer in the Premier League last season was Antoine Semenyo with just eight goals, while Justin Kluivert was the only other player to reach seven.

With that in mind, it would be a massive blow to the Cherries’ hopes of building on their 12th-place finish if they lost Solanke.

Even so, manager Iraola has admitted that despite Solanke being ‘happy’, he ‘cannot control’ what happens in the summer transfer market.

“Dom is happy,” he said. “He has come back in very good shape, is training very well and the relationship he has with his team-mates is very good.

“But the market is open. You cannot say he is going to stay or that he is going to leave because we don’t know. In the end, it is something you cannot control.”

Leeds United have entered the race to sign Bournemouth striker Daniel Jebbison on loan this summer, according to reports.

Jebbison only recently joined the Cherries from relegated Sheffield United as he looks to get his career back on track following a spate of injuries.

The 21-year-old striker, who was born in Canada but is also eligible to represent England at international level, was courted by a number of Championship clubs this summer before opting to move to the Vitality Stadium.

However, with Dominic Solanke enjoying a 19-goal season in the Premier League in 2023/24, it’s unlikely Jebbison will get too many chances, with a loan the best thing for his development at this stage.

Jebbison to Leeds?

According to HITC (via GIVEMESPORT), Leeds were one of the Championship outfits interested in Jebbison — who scored three goals in 35 appearances for Sheffield United, as well as nine in 23 during a 2021/22 loan spell with Burton Albion — prior to his move to Bournemouth.

And it’s understood that Leeds could still land the striker having shown interest in bringing him to Elland Road on loan from the Cherries — although they could face competition from other Championship sides.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke will need all the reinforcements he can get as he’s under pressure to deliver in 2024/25 after the Whites lost the Championship playoff final 1-0 to Southampton — failing in their attempt to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

There are just four weeks left until the 2024/25 Premier League season kicks off, and Arsenal will be hoping that any deals that are currently in abeyance are signed and sealed by then.

Riccard Calafiori has long been touted for a move to the Emirates Stadium, and sporting director, Edu, will need to work hard and fast to get a deal over the line with the Italian’s current club, Bologna.

Arsenal hoping to land Calafiori and Zabarnyi

At 22 years of age, Calafiori represents a player for the current Arsenal set up and well into the future.

That would also apply to Bournemouth’s 21-year-old Ukrainian defender, Ilya Zabarnyi, who CaughtOffside sources note that Arsenal are also monitoring.

It’s understood that the Cherries would be loathe to lose Zabarnyi, though they could be tempted to do business if they receive offers around the £40m/£45m mark.

Riccardo Calafiori isn't the only defensive signing Mikel Arteta wants at Arsenal
Riccardo Calafiori isn’t the only defensive signing Mikel Arteta wants at Arsenal

There are many names on Arsenal’s list of potential targets sources suggest, including strikers as well as defenders, but with pre-season having already started for all clubs, the Gunners don’t have long to get those transfers over the line.

Club scouts watched the Ukrainian defender at Euro 2024, and it’s believed that the reports that filtered back to the powers that be were all positive.

If Mikel Arteta can bring in one or two more high quality exponents, he will arguably have strengthened what he already had in situ, and given himself the luxury of having more depth in his squad.

He’ll certainly need that in what’s expected to be another gruelling campaign, and one that could be Pep Guardiola’s last at Man City.

The Catalan will be hoping to land an unprecedented fifth Premier League title in a row, and a seventh in eight years, which is the scale of the task facing Arteta and his young squad.

Former Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke is open to a return to the club this summer but Bournemouth have reportedly declined to allow the Blues to pay his release clause in instalments, according to Simon Phillips.

Solanke impressed at Bournemouth last season, scoring 19 goals in 38 Premier League games, and 21 in all competitions in total.

It now surely makes sense for Chelsea to look again at Solanke, even if he failed to make a first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge earlier in his career, leading him to pursue his career elsewhere.

Solanke has improved a lot since then, and the 26-year-old now looks like he could clearly have a positive impact in this Chelsea team, which was overly reliant on a young and inconsistent Nicolas Jackson last season.

Dominic Solanke to return to Chelsea?

Solanke transfer situation explained by Chelsea expert

While things do not seem to be advanced yet, the Solanke to Chelsea story clearly seems like one to watch, according to Phillips.

CFC need a striker, and Phillips has linked a number of targets as options for the west London giants, with Solanke one of them, and with the England international open to joining.

“One situation of this could certainly be certainly Dominic Solanke, because things have been happening here, although SPTC sources still maintain nothing is advanced,” Phillips said.

“But he’s absolutely seriously being considered, I’ve heard from yet another source last night that Solanke is a name mentioned to them too. It’s a unanimous report now from SPTC sources. Let’s see if anything goes any further.

“Last we heard was that Bournemouth do not wish to let Chelsea pay the release clause in instalments, and maybe it does end there. But there’s always room for negotiations in these things, and Chelsea would look for the player to push. Solanke is open to a return. Again, nothing advanced, but certainly something going on there, there’s just far too much noise for it to be absolutely nothing in it.”

Chelsea have reportedly been put off pursuing a transfer deal for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke as his £65million release clause is too expensive.

Solanke had a fine season in the Premier League last term and would surely be a decent option for a number of bigger clubs, with Chelsea undoubtedly in need of more depth up front after an inconsistent campaign from Nicolas Jackson.

Still, it seems Solanke is too expensive for Chelsea, according to The Athletic, and it seems fair to say there will surely be cheaper options than the 26-year-old out there.

Solanke will surely be a player to keep an eye on, however, as one imagines other clubs could end up looking at the England international as an option this summer.

Solanke transfer: Chelsea not looking to re-sign striker

Solanke had a spell at Chelsea as a youngster but never quite made it into their first-team before leaving to join Liverpool.

Dominic Solanke too expensive for Chelsea

Things didn’t work out for Solanke at Liverpool either, however, and he’s done well to rebuild his career since then, becoming a star performer for Bournemouth and showing everyone what he’s capable of in the Premier League.

According to The Athletic, however, it seems Chelsea’s main targets are Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran and Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, so it perhaps makes sense that Solanke, with such a high asking price, is not at the top of their list at the moment.

Tottenham could perhaps do well to take a look at Solanke, though, having apparently had a bid rejected for Ivan Toney (according to Football Transfers), whose asking price at Brentford might end up being similar.

Chelsea could do with adding goals to their side, but Solanke’s time at Stamford Bridge has surely now come and gone, one would imagine, even if we do sometimes see players get a second chance.

The Premier League 2024/25 fixtures are officially confirmed this morning, with a big game to look forward to on the opening day of the season as Chelsea star with a difficult game at home to Manchester City.

That will see new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca up against his old boss Pep Guardiola for a real baptism of fire at Stamford Bridge, and it makes it two seasons in a row that the Blues start in an all-big-six encounter, having also hosted Liverpool on the opening day last year.

See below for the new fixtures in full, with Manchester United facing Fulham at home on Friday the 16th of August for the very first match of the new campaign, while Arne Slot’s first game as Liverpool manager will be away to newly-promoted Ipswich Town in an early kick-off on Saturday 17th August.

Title hopefuls Arsenal will begin at home to Wolves later that Saturday, while their north London neighbours Tottenham start their season away to newly-promoted Leicester City for the late Monday evening kick-off…

All in all, it’s set to be an action-packed first round of fixtures to get the 2024/25 Premier League season underway, and it’s exciting to see these games being mapped out already even though the last season only just ended, and Euro 2024 has only just got going.

It’s not easy coping without Premier League football during the summer months, so fans can already start thinking ahead about next season’s key games and how the campaign might pan out.
