Tottenham are looking to add a midfielder to their squad this summer as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg edges closer to exit.

Spurs have already completed the signing of midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United but they need another one to strengthen their midfield.

Ange Postecoglou is being backed by the club to make new signings this summer and along with addressing issues in the midfield, they are expected to add an attacking player to the squad as well.

According to South American outlet DirectTV Sports, Tottenham have decided to make a £20m cash-plus-player move to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey.

The report has mentioned that the North Londoners will offer £20m in cash for Ramsey and also midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

Spurs are prepared to offer Lo Celso as a makeweight in a transfer to get Ramsey since he has failed to get playing time under Postecoglou.

In order to balance their books after adding Ian Maatsen, Samuel Iling-Junior, Jaden Philogene, Enzo Barrenechea, Lewis Dobbin, Ross Barkley, and Cameron Archer this summer, Unai Emery’s team are currently looking to let go of players.

Without Lionel Messi out on the pitch due to his injury, Argentina needed other players to step up, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso stepped up to the occasion to generate a scoring chance in extra time.

After a scoreless 90 minutes, the 2024 Copa America final went to extra time. The first half of that period also did not have any goals, but it was Lo Celso who helped set up the go-ahead goal for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez in the second half of the extra time period.

Tottenham are eyeing up Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov and Fenerbahce midfielder Sebastian Szymanski this summer as Giovani Lo Celso could leave the club.

Sources with a close understanding of Spurs’ plans have informed CaughtOffside that Sudakov and Szymanski are high on the north London club’s list of targets in the midfield area, with Lo Celso expected to make way as he’s on the list of both Valencia and Real Betis.

Sudakov has long been on Tottenham’s radar, and CaughtOffside understands that Szymanski has also been scouted by Spurs recently, with the Poland international possibly set to be available for €25-30m.

Tottenham fans will no doubt be hoping to see more from their club in this summer’s market soon, with Ange Postecoglou in need of more options in his squad after a tricky first season in charge.

Tottenham are ready to part ways with Giovani Lo Celso this summer and the North London outfit could use the Argentina star to land Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey. 

The midfielder has one year remaining on his current Spurs contract and is one of the players the Premier League club are open to selling ahead of the new season.

Lo Celso has struggled to secure a permanent place in Tottenham’s starting team since joining the English outfit back in 2019 and has been sent out on loan twice to Villarreal throughout that period.

Ange Postecoglou gave the Argentine star a chance last season and he featured in 19 games for Tottenham, producing two goals and two assists.

Just over a week into the transfer window and the plans of various clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, are beginning to take shape.

Ever since his introduction into English football a year ago, Ange Postecoglou has appeared to have a clear idea of exactly what he wants in order to turn the Lilywhites into a real force domestically and, ideally, in the Champions League.

Tottenham offering Lo Celso and cash for Ramsey

Missing out on qualifying for the latter would surely have irked the Australian, particularly given that for long periods the North Londoners were comfortably inside the Premier League’s top four.

That will provide motivation for both manager and his players for the forthcoming campaign, and with pre-season having already begun for those players not selected for their countries for various competitions this summer, there’s no time to lose.

There’s also the small matter of player outgoings for two reasons; to give the manager more money to play with during the transfer window, and to rid the squad of what might be considered ‘dead wood.’

According to WhoScored, Giovani Lo Celso only managed 701 minutes under Postecoglou last season, and not once did he manage to complete 90 minutes.

Sky Sports note that the Argentinian is being offered to Aston Villa – who got into the UCL at Spurs’ expense – as a makeweight in Tottenham’s attempts to land highly-rated Jacob Ramsey.

Aston Villa have rejected a player-plus-cash bid from Tottenham for Jacob Ramsey. 

Tottenham are looking to bolster their midfield this summer and have been linked with several players, including Chelsea’s Connor Gallagher and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

They are also looking to offload a few from their squad who are not in Ange’s future plans. Among them is Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentine midfielder has been linked with a move away this summer.

The club is keen on selling him, with recent reports suggesting that the player has been informed that he is free to find a new club.

Tottenham decided to keep the player at the club for the season, having impressed Ange in pre-season.

But the player could not establish himself as a regular, making only 4 league starts all season. He did make 22 appearances, contributing with 2 goals and 2 assists. Several clubs have shown interest in signing him, including Real Betis and Aston Villa.

Spurs have looked to capitalise on Villa’s interest in Lo Celso by making a player-plus-cash move for their star midfielder Jacob Ramsey.

According to Express & Star journalist Matt Maher, the club made a £20m bid plus Lo Celso offer for Ramsey. However, Aston Villa have swiftly rejected Tottenham’s offer. He adds that Villa have no interest in selling the 23-year-old.

He shared the update on X:

Giovani Lo Celso is expected to leave Tottenham during the summer transfer window with Aston Villa and several La Liga clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation. 

The Argentina star has been with Spurs since 2020 having moved to the Premier League from Real Betis, however, it is a transfer that has underwhelmed and with one year remaining on his contract at Tottenham, the 28-year-old is expected to be sold this summer.

Ange Postecoglou gave Lo Celso a chance this season as the former PSG star featured in 24 games for Spurs. The Argentine suffered from several injuries throughout the campaign but ultimately, the Australian coach does not see the player as essential heading into the 2024/25 campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur have received an offer from an unnamed Saudi Pro League club for their attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, according to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo.

However, the Argentine has reportedly ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia, expressing his desire to continue playing at the highest level and prove himself in La Liga.

Lo Celso, 28, appears to have made it clear that his preferred destination is Real Betis, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell during the 2018/19 season.

Betis have maintained a strong interest in re-signing the midfielder since last summer and are keen to bring him back as they look to reinforce their squad.

Recent reports indicate that representatives from Real Betis were in London several weeks ago to understand the financial requirements needed to complete the transfer.
