Manchester United will sign a new left back this summer according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Despite winning the FA Cup United endured a tough campaign which saw them finish eighth and get knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage.

Ineos have yet to make a decision on the future of Erik ten Hag, but the club are seemingly pushing ahead with their transfer plans.

United will sign a left back this summer

The upcoming window will be the first for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos since they took control of footballing operations at Old Trafford.

United are expected to sign a centre back following the departure of Raphael Varane, and have been strongly linked with a move for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, who is reportedly valued at £60m-£70m.

It’s not just at centre back where United are looking to strengthen defensively and Romano has confirmed the Red Devils will sign a left back.

He took to X.com and said:

“Manchester United will bring in new left back for sure this summer, as reported in March.

“Milos Kerkez, one of the players being monitored for that position.

“No talks yet but appreciated, Bournemouth have no intention to make it easy, they’d ask important fee for Kerkez.”

The news isn’t surprising given the injury issues both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have suffered this season and United just haven’t been able to rely on the pair.

Malacia missed the entire season through injury whilst Shaw was limited to just 12 Premier League appearances and is a major doubt for the Euros.

Kerkez impressed in his debut campaign for the Cherries, making 28 Premier League appearances following his £15.5m move from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, and it is likely Bournemouth would want to make a significant profit on that figure if they were to entertain a sale.

Newcastle have reportedly initiated contact with Bournemouth over a possible move for Dominic Solanke.

Solanke has been in red hot form for the Cherries this season and has scored 18 Premier League goals in 36 appearances, compared to last season where he only scored six times.

The 26-year-old is arguably in the best form of his career and has really found his feet at Bournemouth following a difficult spell at Liverpool.

Newcastle keen on Solanke

Bournemouth are having a brilliant season under Andoni Iraola and currently sit tenth in the table with two games remaining, with Solanke’s goals contributing massively to their league position.

The forward’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed and he is sure to attract interest from bigger clubs in the summer.

Solanke has been in fine form for Bournemouth this season.

GIVEMESPORT report that Newcastle have made initial contact over the possibility of a move, and to ascertain if Solanke would be open to a move to St James’ Park.

The report adds that the Magpies are looking to move Callum Wilson on this summer with his contract expiring in 2025 and it’s believed there’s initial interest from his former club Bournemouth.

Wilson isn’t the only striker who could be leaving the north east this summer, and there have been some doubts surrounding Alexander Isak.

Isak has been in superb form this season, scoring 20 league goals, with only Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland having more.

The Sweden international is reportedly on the shortlist of a number of clubs, but the expectation is he stays and could sign a new and improved contract.

GIVEMESPORT add that even if Isak stays the Magpies will still look to sign another striker to help bolster the ranks at the top end of the pitch, as they hopefully prepare to embark on another European campaign next season.

Arsenal remain top of the Premier League table with a five-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City after an electrifying afternoon at the Emirates.

Bournemouth’s Philip Billing etched his name into the history books when he opened the scoring in just nine seconds, registering the second-fastest goal ever scored in Premier League history.

The Cherries then doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Marcos Senesi, shocking the league leaders on their home turf.

Mikel Arteta’s side then halved the deficit shortly after with a close-range Thomas Partey finish. The goal was assisted by Emile Smith Rowe, who has just returned from action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Arsenal’s comeback

An unlikely scorer then came in the form of defender Ben White, who levelled the scoring eight minutes after his teammate’s strike.

The Gunners then displayed their unwavering winning mentality, as eight minutes into injury time, substitute Reiss Nelson sent the Emirates into hysterics by securing all three points with a clinical strike.

The former Man City defender also praised Southampton’s win against Chelsea:

Bournemouth have emerged as unlikely candidates in the race to sign AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Cherries are preparing a bid of around €30 million to try and prise him away from Italy. However, AC Milan are also in the race and have already discussed personal terms with the player’s camp.

The 23-year-old has asked Jose Mourinho and the Roma board to oversee his departure in this transfer window, which they have obliged to do should a suitable offer be sent their way.

Zaniolo could make Premier League switch

Tottenham Hotspur threw their names into the mix but were only willing to take Zaniolo on a loan deal until the end of the season, whereas the Serie A side are seeking a transfer fee for the player to leave permanently.

Bournemouth have now spotted their opportunity to offer Roma a fee close to what they want and secure the Italy international.

An overview of Saturday’s Premier League action across the day with six matches taking place.

Liverpool 0-0 Chelsea

The three points of the match were absolutely crucial to either side’s top-four hopes, however, they failed to find the back of the net and consequently saw the points shared at Anfield. New Chelsea signing Mykhaylo Mudryk made his debut late in the second half and looked like a bright spark for the Blues but was unable to finish off two promising chances in front of the travelling support.

Chelsea remain 10th whilst Liverpool sit ninth. Brentford separates the two teams, though all three are level on points.

Bournemouth 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Bournemouth took the lead in the first half through Jaidon Anthony in the 28th minute, with the Cherries hoping to pick up their first win in four matches, but a late equaliser from Sam Surridge rescued a point for Steve Cooper’s side, who returned to haunt his former team at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth have consequently fallen into the bottom three and Forest sit in 13th place.

Leicester City 2-2 Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton were looking to pick up their third consecutive win against an out-of-form Leicester side. The Seagulls took the lead in the 27th minute through recent star performer Kaoru Mitoma, before Marc Albrighton equalised for the Foxes just 11 minutes later.

Harvey Barnes then put Leicester ahead in the 63rd minute and Evan Ferguson netted a late goal to take a point back to the Amex in the 88th minute. James Maddison returned from injury during the match.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are 14th. Brighton are in sixth.

Southampton 0-1 Aston Villa

The Saints remain rock bottom of the league table after failing to take anything from their clash with Unai Emery’s men.

Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute in Villa’s first match without Danny Ings. Villa are 11th placed following the match.

West Ham United 2-0 Everton

Perhaps one of the most highly-anticipated matches of the weekend for neutral viewers, as the pressure on both managers could not be any higher right now. There was endless speculation heading into the game that either David Moyes or Frank Lampard would see their managerial reign come to an end if they oversaw defeat.

It was the latter that did, and whilst there are yet to be any further updates coming out of Goodison Park, the Everton board are likely to hold key meetings tonight regarding the future of the Toffees. It was Jarrod Bowen’s brace that separated the two relegation candidates.

The Irons have managed to crawl out of the top three to 15th place whilst the Blues are 19th and joint on points with Southampton in 20th.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle United

Another stalemate took place at Selhurst Park with the Eagles now picking up points in consecutive matches against top-four sides; Manchester United midweek and now the Magpies.

Eddie Howe’s rampant Newcastle side were unable to see out a win but have extended their remarkable unbeaten run to 15 league games and picked up a 12th clean sheet.

West Ham United took the lead against Bournemouth last night through Kurt Zouma, despite there being a handball in the build-up.

There was a lengthy VAR check once the ball hit the back of the net from Zouma’s header as the ball appeared to bounce off of Thilo Kehrer’s hands from Jarrod Bowen’s corner, going back up into the air for Thomas Soucek to head over to Zouma.

New handball law plays huge part in the decision

Initially, you would expect the opener to have been chalked off, as Kehrer clearly handles the ball. However, the new handball law states that so long as the handball does not directly lead to a goal, it is allowed to stand.

Supporters still feel hard done by with the decision, with many claiming that the Irons defender looked like he was playing “volleyball”.

Newcastle United fans will be focused chiefly on transfer additions during the remainder of August, but Eddie Howe is having to recruit a new coach too. After the departure of goalkeeping coach Simon Smith, Howe is considering delving down the English football pyramid in order to replace Smith.

According to The Times, via NUFC Blog, Howe is considering bringing in a former player of his at Bournemouth. Goalkeeper Shwan Jalal played for Bournemouth for six years and won promotion from League 2 to the Championship.

Jalal was at Bournemouth between 2008 and 2014.

Currently at Stockport County as a goalkeeping coach, he is in his second non-playing role after hanging up his boots in 2020 with Chesterfield. Five of his seasons with Bournemouth were spent with Howe and the Newcastle manager will have an intimate knowledge of his skills.

Smith had been at Newcastle for the previous seven years and Howe’s appointment will have to live up to expectations. Jalal would be aware of exactly what Howe wants too, although it would be his first time working in the elite of his field.

Norwegian international and former Manchester United forward Joshua King is on the hunt for a new club after Watford decided to release him this summer. King joined the club on the ninth of July in 2021 and did have a contract until 2023.

The club announced the decision on Tuesday morning, wishing both King and also released goalkeeper Rob Elliot good luck for the future. King will be looking for his fourth club in 18 months after leaving Bournemouth at the end of January 2021. It returns King to a journeyman career path, with his six-year spell at Bournemouth being by far the longest period he has spent at any club.

30-year-old King has played for 8 different clubs.

On the first of February 2021, King joined Everton for free but failing to make an impact, went to Watford on the expiry of his contract. There he fared slightly better, scoring 5 times in his 31 appearances.

Blessed with brilliant pace, King is always likely to be an asset to his teams, even if he has struggled to find a rhythm for Everton and Watford. Properly utilised, he could be a useful tool for several clubs in the Premier League and upper reaches of the Championship.
