Harry Kane suffered defeat in yet another final as his and England’s wait for a trophy goes on following defeat to Spain in Berlin.

Kane was replaced by Ollie Watkins after just 61 minutes having failed to make an impact again for the Three Lions again.

Nico Williams gave Spain the lead just after the break before Cole Palmer equalised three minutes after coming on, but Mikel Oyarzabal broke England hearts as he scored the winner four minutes from the end.

Despite scoring three goals, which earns him a share of the Golden Boot, Kane hasn’t looked fit and has endured a really difficult tournament.

England had set up to play defensive football and hit teams on the counter which hasn’t suited Kane as he doesn’t run in behind defenders, and there were no runners beyond him which he needs.

The England captain cut a forlorn and isolated figure for not just the final but large parts of the tournament, with England looking more of a threat without him on the pitch.

A damning stat has highlighted Kane’s struggles with the former Tottenham striker having just one touch in the box across both the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 finals, less than Jack Grealish who didn’t even make Gareth Southgate’s squad this summer.

Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart slammed Declan Rice’s performance against Spain in the final of Euro 2024, labelling the midfielder useless.

England suffered more heartache in Berlin as they slipped to a second consecutive European Championship final defeat.

Cole Palmer scored a brilliant equaliser to cancel out Nico Williams’ opener, and with ten minutes to go England were still in the game, but Mikel Oyarzabal popped up four minutes from time with the winner to break English hearts.

Van de Vaart isn’t one to hold back his words and was scathing in his criticism of Rice at full time, labelling the Arsenal star useless and criticising him for not being able to pass forward.

Rice started every game for England out in Germany, but in the end he was unable to help the Three Lions end their 58-year wait for international success in what could be Gareth Southgate’s final game in charge.

Jude Bellingham vented his frustrations after England’s defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024 by kicking a water cooler as he made his way towards the tunnel at full time.

It wasn’t to be for England again, and they succumbed to a second consecutive European Championship final defeat.

Nico Williams gave Spain the lead just after the break, but Cole Palmer levelled brilliantly three minutes after coming off the bench.

Unfortunately for England Mikel Oyarzabal popped up with the winner four minutes from time although the Three Lions went agonisingly close through Declan Rice’s header before Dani Olmo cleared the ball off the line but Spain held on.

Bellingham, has had a mixed tournament and despite his heroics against Slovakia in the last 16 he’s not had the sort of impact many would have expected given the season he had for Real Madrid.

Losing big matches isn’t a regular occurrence for the 21-year-old and he took his frustrations out on an water cooler by kicking it over before taking a seat on the bench on his own.

This will hurt Bellingham but he will likely have many more moments in his career when he’s on the winning side of things.

Gareth Southgate has said now isn’t the time to make a decision on his future following England’s defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

England suffered more heartbreak in Berlin as they lost a second consecutive European Championships final.

Nico Williams gave Spain the lead two minutes into the second half, but England hit back through substitute Cole Palmer, and were very much in the game with ten minutes remaining, only for Mikel Oyarzabal to score the winner four minutes from the end.

Southgate has guided England to two finals and a semi final in his four tournaments at the helm, but he could have managed his final game, despite the FA reportedly wanting him to to continue.

After the game Southgate was asked about his future but said it wasn’t the time to make a decision, but it certainly feels like the end of an era for England, and perhaps it’s best they move in a new direction with this young exciting crop of players coming through.

Gareth Southgate has rolled the dice with half an hour to go against Spain replacing his captain Harry Kane with Ollie Watkins.

Kane has struggled all tournament and despite being in with a chance of winning the Golden Boot he’s struggled to get involved in games.

The Spain defence were having far to easy a time, with the England captain not offering a threat in behind, and with England looking to play on the counter Watkins with his pace and runs in behind would seemingly offer England the best chance of getting back into the game.

Southgate will be hoping Watkins can have a similar impact to the semi final where he scored a last minute winner against the Netherlands.

England need Watkins to make an impact as they haven’t started the second half well and find themselves a goal down with Nico Willians giving Spain the lead just two minutes into the second half.

Spain’s Dani Carvajal made a crying gesture towards Bukayo Saka after he fouled the England man in the first half of the Euro 2024 final.

The Spanish have started the game on the front foot, and have had plenty of possession with Nico Williams looking a threat, whilst England have yet to get a foothold in the game.

It’s been a cagey affair as you would expect in a final, but Carvajal has no doubt wound up the England players and particularly Saka, after making a crying gesture in his direction after he made a clear foul on Saka, but the Real Madrid man clearly felt otherwise.

If England do end up victorious that gesture will no doubt come back to haunt the Real Madrid man.

England are looking to end their 58-year wait for international success and win a major tournament on foreign soil for the first time in their history, whilst Spain are in a first major final since 2012.

Spain ace hopes 22-year-old stays on the bench in Euro 2024 final

Marc Cucurella has said he hopes Chelsea team-mate Cole Palmer stays on the bench in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final.

The 25-year-old is preparing for arguably the biggest game of his career and has been a standout performer not just for Spain, but at the tournament as well.

Cucurella has started every game apart from the final group game against Albania which he was rested for, and the Spanish have been the in form side in Germany, winning all six of their matches.

Cucurella hopes Palmer stays on the bench

The former Brighton man could come up against Chelsea team-mates Palmer and Conor Gallagher in the showpiece event in Berlin, which is Spain’s first major final since 2012.

Palmer has had to bide his time in Germany after being overlooked for the first two games, but has featured from the bench in the subsequent four games, and set up Ollie Watkins’ dramatic last minute winner against the Dutch.

Cucurella is one game away from being a European Champion.

Cucurella knows all to well the quality Palmer possesses having experienced it first hand at Chelsea last season, and speaking ahead of the final he said he’d been in contact with the 22-year-old and hoped that he remained on the bench.

“I spoke with him, but it was over a week ago, we talked for a while in the previous rounds,” Cucurella told Mundo Deportivo.

“For me, it’s much better if he doesn’t play and stays on the bench.”

England’s semi final hero insists they don’t care how they win or score following King Charles’ message

England’s semi final hero Ollie Watkins has said he feels the Three Lions don’t care how they win or score, when asked about King Charles’ message to the team.

Watkins was the match winner against the Netherlands in the semi final as he scored in the last minute after being introduced from the bench with ten minutes remaining.

Those late heroics mean England have made back to back European Championship finals, and will face an in form Spain side in Sunday’s final.

England don’t care how they win

England have been criticised for their performances in Germany, particularly at the beginning of the tournament, but a switch to a back three in the quarter final against Switzerland has seen the team’s performances improve.

The first half against the Dutch was arguably Gareth Southgate’s side best performance of the tournament, but the same issues were prevalent in the second half.

England’s route to the final has had it all from last minute winners, stoppage time bicycle kicks and a penalty shootout victory.

Watkins will be hoping for another opportunity in the final.

Whatever people think of this side they are tough to beat and have individuals who can create moments out of nothing.

The last minute victory against the Netherlands lead to a message from King Charles for the team to try and win without anymore stressful late dramas.

When asked about the message Watkins insisted he feels that England don’t care how they win or score.

“As much as it makes it more exciting, I feel like personally we don’t care how we win or score, as long as the ball goes in the back of the net,” he told BBC Sport.

Declan Rice has admitted England’s defeat to Italy in Euro 2020 will “haunt him forever”, but urged the Three Lions to create their own history on Sunday.

With their last minute win against the Netherlands, England have now made back to back European Championship finals and are a game away from ending their 58-year wait for success, which goes all the way back to 1966.

Standing in England’s way is an in form Spain side who have won every game in Germany so far and are in their first major final since 2012.

Rice urges England to create history

England find themselves in familiar territory in Berlin having been in a similar situation three years ago against Italy at Wembley.

Despite taking an early lead through Luke Shaw they ultimately came up short and agonisingly lost on penalties, and will no doubt be using that defeat as fuel on Sunday.

Rice, who played in that final and has been an ever present for England at Euro 2024 admitted the Italy defeat will haunt him forever, but called on England to write their own history.

Rice has called on England to create history against Spain.

“Seeing Italy lift that trophy will haunt me forever,” he told The Evening Standard.

“We are now presented with another opportunity where we can write our own history.

“It is a game we believe we can win, so it is poised to be a great final.

“There is one more in our legs to give it absolutely everything for the boys, for the fans and for this manager.

“We are so desperate to do this and bring some happiness to the country.”
