Newcastle United have focused more on their sales so far this summer as compared to signing new players.

The Magpies were in trouble about the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and in order to comply with the regulations, they needed to sell players first.

Eddie Howe’s team have signed defender Lloyd Kelly this summer and he remains their only prominent signing so far.

As far as outgoings are concerned, Newcastle have sold both Yankuba Minteh and Elliott Anderson, players that Howe wanted to keep at the club but could not due to financial constraints.

Recently, Howe said he wasn’t actually interested in selling Anderson and Minteh in an interview that was published by The Guardian.

“We didn’t want to lose anybody,” the 46-year-old said.

“Why would we want to lose our best players? We fought really hard to make the right decisions but in those last few weeks it was very, very difficult.

“It was a very difficult last couple of weeks of June. There was a lot of uncertainty and we didn’t know what was going to happen. The rules forced us to do things we didn’t want to do.

“I want to make that clear we didn’t want to sell any of the players we sold. Absolutely not. Why would we want to sell any of our promising young players? Elliot’s someone we’ve invested a lot of time in and it defied the inner feeling we all had associated with the club, it felt wrong.”

The Magpies are now set to enter the market to sign a new right-winger and possibly an attacker who can provide competition for Alexander Isak and play as his back-up.

The Toon Army need depth in their squad in order to avoid deal with the injury crisis they suffered last season.

Despite never making an appearance for the club, Newcastle United agreed to sell Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Hove Albion for over £30 million.

The Magpies, after signing the talented 19-year-old from Danish side Odense BK last year, immediately loaned him out to Feyenoord for the 2023-24 season.

The teenager enjoyed a successful loan spell in the Eredivisie — scoring 11 goals and registering six assists in just 37 games in all competitions.

However, forced to comply with the Premier League’s strict Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules, the Geordies were left with little choice but to cash in on the Gambian.

And although the agreement, which will see Minteh lineup at the AMEX next season, has helped Newcastle’s financially, the attacker’s transfer may not be worth quite as much as originally thought to the northeast giants.

According to recent reports, former club Odense BK retained a whopping future sell-on clause, and although the exact figure has not been revealed, it is thought to be worth seven figures.

Regardless of how much Newcastle profited from Mineth’s sale having signed him for just £7 million, fans will still be gutted they won’t get to see the highly-rated forward in action in the club’s famous black and white stripes.

Newcastle United attacker Yankuba Minteh has been sold by the Magpies to fellow Premier League club Brighton.

In order to comply with Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, Eddie Howe needed to offload players so that he can balance the club’s accounts.

Minteh is one of the players sold by the club in order to stay in line with the rules while Elliott Anderson was the other player who had to leave St. James’ Park.

Minteh spent last season on loan at Feyenoord and instantly became a fan favourite.

The player helped the Dutch club win the KNVB Cup last season, despite receiving a red card in the final.

After moving from Odense to Newcastle last summer, the 19-year-old winger didn’t play a single game for the club, but he was transferred for a hefty profit when Brighton agreed to a club-record signing.

The player posted a farewell message on social media and thanked Feyenoord for their support.

“Hi Feyenoord fans, how are you guys doing?” Minteh said on Instagram.

“I wanted to use this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for the good support at the time I was at Feyenoord.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the fans, the staff, the players, everyone in the club to say thank you very much for the amazing support and the amazing times we spent together. I will still be following you guys, watching your games and good luck in the next season.

The player never played for the Magpies but he helped them follow the financial rules and made a contribution that was more significant to the club than goals and assists.

He has managed to fetch his club a good transfer fee which they will use in their transfer business this summer.

It would appear that Newcastle United are aiming to get much of their transfer business done early in this summer’s window.

With Financial Fair Play in mind, the North East giants will have more headroom in the market if they’re able to offload players that are perhaps now considered to be surplus to requirements.

Both Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh have recently left the club, and it seems that Eddie Howe isn’t quite finished with Newcastle’s outgoing business just yet.

According to Sky Sports, the Magpies are in talks with a Saudi Pro League club for the signature of Miguel Almiron.

Miguel Almiron set to leave Newcastle

Now 30 years of age, the Paraguayan international can no longer be considered a first-choice for Newcastle when everyone is fit.

Whilst that’s to be expected when your club is trying to build for a future which apparently includes bringing through younger players, that’s still likely to hit Almiron hard.

Newcastle's Miguel Almiron is likely to move to the Saudi Pro League
Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron is likely to move to the Saudi Pro League

After all, he’s long been a part of the Magpies success, and was the player who started things off on that famous night against Paris Saint-Germain last season.

His experience in and around the place could be invaluable to Newcastle, though if he’s only going to be utilised in fits and starts, his is a position that could easily be filled by another, younger exponent.

It seems clear that the Saudi Public Investment Fund are preparing to make a splash in the market where possible.

Rightly so too, as if the club want to get back to the top table of both domestic and European football, key areas need to be targeted.

The Saudi club that Almiron is linked with hasn’t yet been mentioned, though it appears to be a foregone conclusion that the player will soon be on his way out of the Premier League club.

Manchester United make contact over Matthijs de Ligt transfer

Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United could be one to watch this summer as we know they’ve been exploring the market for centre-backs. There’s now been contact between Man United and De Ligt’s representatives, but we may have to wait a bit longer for something more concrete to happen.

At the moment De Ligt doesn’t want any distraction during the Euros, but for sure Man United made contact with his agent to understand the situation. United are considering a move – nothing is decided yet but he’s one of the names on their list. There’s still no proposal from United or any other club.

Jarrad Branthwaite remains on the list at United too, but the £70m fee required by Everton is still considered too expensive. Let’s see if De Ligt can be signed on more favourable terms, or if they consider other alternatives in that position as well.

Staying with Bayern, the deal for Joao Palhinha seems to be dragging on, and though there is no official deadline for this, it’s clear that Bayern won’t go on negotiating for three months. Still, talks continue for Palhinha, Bayern remain confident and 100% focused on the Fulham midfielder, while Palhinha himself also wants the move.

Anthony Gordon and more Newcastle transfer updates

Newcastle started having some conversations regarding Anthony Gordon, but the only way for him to leave for Liverpool is for the asking price to drop in a considerable way. Liverpool really like the player, but they are not going to pay what Newcastle are currently demanding for Gordon, so the feeling is that this story is unlikely for the next 24 hours, for the Financial Fair Play deadline for English clubs.

The only way is for a crazy proposal from Liverpool and at the moment they are not considering paying that money, so it’s really complicated. It was an opportunity discussed due to Newcastle’s financial situation, but that’s it – it was never close or advanced as there was big gap on valuation. It’s also important to say that Newcastle have now sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliott Anderson so the story is over for now, Liverpool keep appreciating Gordon but not moving forward as of now.

Another big name at Newcastle who’s made the headlines is Alexander Isak, but nothing is happening with Chelsea. We know that Chelsea appreciate this talented striker, but it’s almost impossible because Newcastle want to keep him, and I’ve been told that Eddie Howe, over the weekend, was very clear with the Newcastle board and owners about not wanting Isak to leave the club.

For Newcastle to sell, it would have taken a Premier League record fee, so more than £120m, and Chelsea were never going to pay that money. The only way it could have happened was with a swap deal, but now nothing is happening and it’s really quiet as of today.

Some fans have asked me about the possibility of Nicolas Jackson being included in a swap deal for Isak, but what I’m hearing is that Jackson is considered a really important player for Chelsea. They trust him and believe he’s going to perform very well under Enzo Maresca next season, and that his value is going to go up. Chelsea absolutely trust Jackson and think he’s going to be a key player next season, and also on the player side, Jackson is very happy at Chelsea, so everything is quiet on this one.

Chelsea still negotiating Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall transfer

Chelsea’s negotiations with Leicester City for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are still ongoing. We know Chelsea were able to make a call and make the deal collapse between Brighton and Leicester City – the deal fell through because Dewsbury-Hall decided not to join Brighton and to wait for Chelsea.

So now the player has given the green light to Chelsea and he’s delaying his holidays to see what will happen. Still, he’s being respectful to Leicester as well and he’s not desperate to leave the club, but if Leicester decide to sell to Chelsea, then the player will be open to making the move. Personal terms would not be a problem, and the relationship between Chelsea and Dewsbury-Hall’s agent is very good, so now we’re just waiting on the club-to-club negotiations.

Chelsea want to include players in the deal, so let’s see if they can find the right structure for the deal, but one important detail to clarify is that this is not a player Maresca has requested to the directors or the owners. This deal starts with the Chelsea recruitment team. They saw Dewsbury-Hall as a very good opportunity on the market, and then they got the green light from Maresca in the second phase of the story. Maresca obviously knows the player well as they were together at Leicester, and so he gave his approval, but it was not starting with the manager, it’s always starting with the recruitment team – this is the policy, this is the strategy at Chelsea.

Arsenal keeping an eye on Riccardo Calafiori transfer situation as Juventus deal looks complicated

Riccardo Calafiori’s future could now be one to watch as the Euros are over for the Italian national team after a surprise defeat to Switzerland yesterday. In May and the beginning of June, Bologna were hoping for Calafiori to stay at the club, while back in February/March, Calafiori was giving his preference to Juventus, and my understanding is that his preference remains Juventus. He would love to play for Juve and also for Thiago Motta, who was his manager at Bologna last season.

However, as always mentioned, the relationship between Bologna and Juve is complicated – this is because of the Thiago Motta situation. Still, Juventus are still there for Calafiori, there is an agreement with the player, and it’s just Bologna are making life difficult for Juve. Now that Italy are out of the Euros, Bologna expect Premier League clubs to jump into the race for the defender’s signature.

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation – it’s not a negotiation as of now, but let’s see how they will move. Meanwhile, Chelsea also want to add a talented left-footed centre-back, and Calafiori is one of the best around. He’s been scouted by Chelsea this year so that could also be one to watch, while let’s also wait and see if other clubs will join the race. We had rumours about Real Madrid, for example, but my understanding is that they are focused on Leny Yoro – he remains the player they want and he wants to go to Real Madrid. Liverpool could also be one to watch as they want a defender and Richard Hughes knows Calafiori well, though at the moment there is still nothing concrete happening there.

In other news…

Archie Gray – Brentford are now the clear favourites to sign Archie Gray from Leeds. There were also links with Arsenal, Liverpool and many others but it was never anything concrete. I’m told Borussia Dortmund were really keen on Gray, and Tottenham too. There’s no hijack so far but the situation remains open until he officially signs, even if Brentford are now the favourites.

Reiss Nelson – The Arsenal winger could be one to watch this summer as outgoings will be important as well as signings this summer. For now Arsenal are not in a rush to bring in new players as it will depend on the right opportunities, but they could be open to some sales, with Nelson someone to keep an eye on.

Tammy Abraham – Nothing is advanced yet on Tammy Abraham’s future, despite links with AC Milan. Still, I expect the former Chelsea striker to leave Roma and it could be for another club in Italy, or for a return to England. At the moment it is quiet, but for sure there will be movement.

According to Mark Douglas of i News, Brighton are ahead of Everton, Borussia Dortmund, and Lyon in the competition to sign Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh.

The Seagulls have increased their interest in the 19-year-old and are in negotiations to sign him in a £30 million deal, which would enable Newcastle to abide by the Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League.

Minteh played 40 games while on loan at Feyenoord last season, scoring 11 goals and dishing out six assists.

Though it’s said that Everton, Borussia Dortmund, and Lyon have also expressed a strong interest, the South Coast team is now the clear favorite to sign the Gambian.

The player wants to play in the Premier League next season, giving Brighton the edge over clubs outside of England.

Everton remain interested in signing the player but the latest update has suggested that the Toffees have fallen behind in the race to sign him.

Newcastle United could sell Yankuba Minteh to generate funds.

Newcastle are still waiting on a proposal from Brighton before approving Minteh’s exit.

Brighton are hesitant to involve a buy-back clause in the deal that the Magpies want.

It remains to be seen if the two clubs can reach an agreement on the matter.

Newcastle United need sales before buying players

Eddie Howe’s team are in desperate need of cash injection as they want to raise funds to follow the Premier League rules and also help in their transfer business this summer.

A number of players could be heading out of the club soon including the likes of Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and others.

Howe is expected to oversee major changes at the club this summer as he prepares the club to challenge for European places again next season.

The Magpies are keen to add depth and quality to the squad and in order to do that, they need to move on some of the players first.

Six players are set to leave Newcastle United this week according to reports as the Profit and Sustainability deadline draws ever closer.

The 30th of June is the deadline for profit and sustainability calculations so clubs have until Sunday to make any sales to ensure they are compatible with the rules.

One player the Magpies are trying to move on is winger Yankuba Minteh who has attracted interest from Everton and French side Lyon.

Six players set to leave Newcastle

Matt Ritchie, Paul Dummett, Loris Karius, Jeff Hendrick and Kell Watts will all leave St James’ Park when their contracts expire at the end of the month.

Newcastle had been strongly linked with a move for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which would have seen Minteh go the other way in a separate transaction to help with PSR like Chelsea and Aston Villa did with Ian Maatsen and Omari Kellyman.

The Magpies have reportedly set a £40m asking price for Minteh, with Lyon agreeing a deal with Newcastle, only for the 19-year-old to turn the move down.

Newcastle are trying to sell Minteh before the end of the month.

Some reports in France have suggested the winger would prefer to join Marseille who have recently appointed former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager.

Minteh joined Newcastle from Danish side Odense BK last summer before spending last season on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord under now Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

Newcastle could be in line to make a significant profit on a player who is yet to make an appearance for the club.

Meanwhile Newcastle received an enquiry over striker Alexander Isak from Chelsea earlier this week, with reports suggesting the Blues were in further contact on Friday about a move for the 24-year-old.

The Magpies are believed to value Isak in excess of £100m with The Telegraph’s Matt Law reporting the only way a move happens is if Newcastle drop their valuation or ask Chelsea for players to be involved in the deal.

Newcastle United are in trouble regarding Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and they might need to offload some players soon.

The Magpies need cash injection at the club in order to meet the financial demands, having spent heavily in previous transfer windows.

The Toon Army need to sell some of their deadwood in order to generate funds for their transfer business.

Having secured the signing of defender Lloyd Kelly already, manager Eddie Howe is determined to add more fresh faces to his squad.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies are set to sell Yankuba Minteh in the next 24-48 hours due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

The player is keen to stay in the Premier League with Everton his preferred destination.

However, French giants Lyon have made the best proposal to sign him this summer.

Newcastle United need to act smartly in the transfer window as they look to add depth and quality to their squad.

Their injury crisis last season hampered their campaign and they failed to qualify for Europe.

Howe would be hoping to avoid that next season and build a competitive squad who that repeat the success of the 2022-23 season.

Newcastle United have reportedly reached an agreement with Lyon for the transfer of winger Yankuba Minteh, valued at approximately £40 million.

However, according to The Sun, the deal faces a major obstacle as Minteh is adamant about staying in the Premier League and is refusing to discuss personal terms with the French club.

It states that Minteh has communicated to Newcastle’s management that he will not be coerced into a transfer that does not align with his career aspirations, despite understanding the club’s financial pressures.

His stance poses a significant challenge for Newcastle, who need to secure substantial funds through player sales before June 30 to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Newcastle’s need to sell players stems from the necessity to raise funds and avoid breaching FFP regulations.

Minteh’s refusal to leave the club complicates these efforts, putting additional pressure on the Magpies to find alternative solutions to meet their financial obligations.

The winger joined the Magpies in the summer of 2023 from Odense for a fee of €8m. He was then loaned out to Dutch club Feyenoord where he impressed, scoring 11 and assisted 6 in 37 appearances.

Minteh’s decision to stay in the Premier League could significantly impact Newcastle’s transfer strategy. The club now faces the challenge of either convincing the player to reconsider his stance or identifying other players who can be sold to generate the necessary funds.

Newcastle United youngster Yankuba Minteh reportedly has heart set on joining Marseille if he is to move to Ligue 1 this summer.

The highly-rated young forward, who has impressed on loan at Feyenoord, has also been linked strongly with Lyon and Everton in the last few days.

However, reports from France now state that Minteh himself would prefer to go to Marseille if he ends up making the switch to French football.

It seems Marseille have some interest in Minteh, though it may be that Lyon and Everton are more advanced in their pursuit of the 19-year-old at the moment.

Things could change, however, if Marseille enter the running strongly, as it’s claimed that Minteh has a long-standing affection for OM.

Former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi recently took over as Marseille manager and that would surely also be a key factor for Minteh, as it would surely be tempting to work under the Italian tactician, who did so well to improve young players during his time with the Seagulls.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens with this deal, but Newcastle are known to be keen to let Minteh go for the right price.

One imagines, however, that the Magpies would surely rather let this talented young player go abroad than to a rival Premier League club.
