Antonio Conte is now understood have identified Brighton & Hove Albion’s Billy Gilmour as a key target this summer.

The Italian giants have already seen an offer worth £8m rejected by the Seagulls for the former Chelsea midfielder.

The 2022/23 title-winners won’t back down after falling at the initial hurdle, however, and sources close to CaughtOffside claim a further bid in the region of £10-11m is being planned.

Conte’s Chelsea link could prove pivotal

There was some overlap during Conte’s time in charge of the Stamford Bridge-based outfit and the Scottish star’s stint in West London. Albeit, the ‘technically phenomenal’ player (in the view of Pat Nevin with the Press and Journal) was, then, only a youth option playing for the U18s.

Nonetheless, it would seem that the now 23-year-old made something of a lasting impression on his old boss. His performances on the South Coast likewise are sure to have impressed as he featured on 41 occasions (across all competitions) last term.

Sources with an understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that the Italian head coach has met with Gilmour to persuade him to make a move to Naples.

The Brighton man is thought to be keen on a transfer to the Serie A this summer, with personal terms not considered a serious obstacle.

Brighton and Hove Albion have reportedly rejected an opening offer from Napoli for midfielder Billy Gilmour.

That’s according to a recent report from talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who claims Antonio Conte has made a move to sign the former Chelsea academy starlet.

Spending the last two years at the AMEX, Gilmour, 23, had been a first-team player under Roberto De Zerbi — starting 24 Premier League games last season. However, with the Italian boss recently joining Marseille, the midfielder’s future has now become uncertain.

Perhaps not as highly rated by new manager Fabian Hurzeler, the Scotland international, now wanted by Napoli, may be assessing his options ahead of the new 2024-25 season.

Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour has revealed Andres Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo were his early footballing idols.

After coming through at Chelsea, the 23-year-old has become a key part of the Brighton side impressing in the Premier League over the last couple of years, also helping the Seagulls reach the 2023/24 Europa League round of 16 in their first-ever continental campaign.

Gilmour is also a part of the Scotland squad that has made the trip to Euro 2024, coming off the bench in their disappointing 5-1 thrashing to hosts Germany in the opening match of the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport, Gilmour has named fellow diminutive midfielder Iniesta as his later footballing inspiration, following a spell idolizing Ronaldo — the legendary pair having won a combined 11 La Liga titles and eight Champions Leagues during their time in Spain alone, for Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.

“Of course it’s your dad [who is your inspiration], but football-wise it was Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Gilmour. “When I got a bit older and I understood what position I was going to play in, it was [Andres] Iniesta.”

Gilmour reveals Lampard influence

Gilmour took a huge risk in 2017, deciding to leave Glasgow giants Rangers for Chelsea shortly after his 16th birthday.

The move paid off, though. Despite not quite establishing himself at Stamford Bridge, Gilmour is now a Premier League star and an important player in the future of Scottish football.

The midfielder has given his thanks to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who was in charge of the Blues upon his arrival.

“I took that jump,” said Gilmour. “I had full confidence in myself to go down and give it my best. I always knew I could go back, but I’d regret it if I didn’t.

“It was definitely a difficult decision. What made it easy was my dad being away for nine years. He said, ‘you’re going to feel homesick sometimes and if you are it’s normal, just give me a call’.

“Frank was amazing with me. He gave me the chance at Chelsea to express myself. He gave me a lot of trust.”

The Italian manager hailed the performance of Gilmour who was arguably the best player on the pitch on Thursday and called for more Scottish players to be brought into the league.

The friendly against France was special for Scotland’s Billy Gilmour in more ways than one.

The Brighton and Hove Albion ace not only scored his first goal for his country, but it was actually the first goal of his senior career.

He owed a debt to France’s Eduardo Camavinga, whose horrendous back pass fell right at his feet. With the whole goal to aim at, he couldn’t miss.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as Benjamin Pavard levelled the scores within four minutes, thanks to a delicious Antoine Griezmann corner, and worse was to follow when the same player saw the hosts take the lead on 24 minutes.

Billy Gilmour has put his Scottish side one goal up in their international friendly against France.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke labelled tonight’s opponents as the ‘best side in the world’ during the build-up for this game but it is his side who have taken the lead.

Gilmour took full advantage of a misplaced pass from Eduardo Camavinga rifling home with his right foot from the left-hand side of the box.

With both teams already qualified for the Euros and this game just a friendly, it will be a great measuring stick for his side going forward.

Pundits claim England star wouldn’t get into the Scotland team ahead of their face off

talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has made the bold claim that England midfielder Jordan Henderson would not get into the Scotland midfield.

McCoist named Scott McTominay, Callum McGregor, John McGinn and Billy Gilmour as midfielders that get in ahead of Henderson. He went on the praise the Scotland midfield as the strongest area on the pitch (along with left side of defence).

At this moment in time, McCoist said he would struggle to leave any of those previous names out of the squad, but he also went on to say Henderson would clearly get games for Scotland due to the level of player he is, but in current form he would struggle to get in the side.

Scotland take on England on Tuesday the 12th of September at Hampden Park, the last time the two faced the score ended 0-0, and the record between the two sides currently stands at 48 wins for England, 41 wins for Scotland and 26 draws.

Instagram influencer known as “Devil Baby” admits to stalking and harassing three Chelsea players

Instagram influencer Orla Sloan has pleaded guilty to stalking and harassing three Chelsea players last year which left the trio fearing for their safety.

The Sun have reported the story, with Sloan, who branded herself “Devil Baby”, set to find out the length of her sentence after pleading guilty to harassing and stalking Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Billy Gilmour last year.

Sloan allegedly slept with Mount after meeting him at a party hosted by Chilwell early last year and in her court appearance today, came clean to stalking the former between June 19th and October 28th 2022 after she changed her number 21 times in an attempt to stay in contact with the 24-year old following his decision to cut ties in their six-month relationship, to which she sent him a message saying: “You must apologise or you will unlock a new character – Devil Baby.”

Mount, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea, will hope this situation can be put to rest next month

The 22-year old influencer, who is an ambassador for Los Angeles-based retailer Fashion Nova, also messaged then Chelsea-midfielder Gilmour between September and October 2022, with the Scottish midfielder admitting: “I have not been able to sleep and I have had to take sleeping tablets which has affected my performance.” as the stalking of him continued into his time at Brighton.

Chilwell was also a victim of her actions as she pleaded guilty to harassing the left-back without violence.
