Bariş Alper Yilmaz is now understood to be attracting attention from Europe’s top clubs thanks to his impressive performances for Turkey at 2024 European Championship.

The 24-year-old winger, who currently plies his trade with Galatasaray, particularly caught the eye in the 2-1 win over the Czech Republic yesterday.

Sources close to CaughtOffside have confirmed that Premier League clubs, such as Tottenham and Manchester United, are keen.

Could Yilmaz be on the move this summer?

There’s no question that Yilmaz’s performances in Germany have encouraged Spurs and Erik ten Hag’s outfit to follow the forward more closely.

That said, the two English outfits aren’t the only clubs keeping a watching brief on the Super Lig star.

Brighton & Hove Albion, Lazio, Frankfurt and RB Leipzig all continue to be linked with the Turkey international (18 caps).

Sources closest to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Galatasaray have set a price tag of over €25m [£21.1m] for Bariş Alper.

How has Yilmaz performed in Turkey?

The former Ankara Demir man registered 13 goal contributions in 37 top-flight games in 2023/24.

Xabi Alonso’s decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen beyond the 2023/24 campaign could be pivotal ahead of the club’s next summer window.

The suggestion had been that several members of the Bundesliga outfit’s side could be tempted to call time on their careers at the BayArena had the Spaniard been set to depart.

German football insider Christian Falk, however, has since made clear that some exits could still occur amid Premier League interest.

“If Jonathan Tah stays, another central defender may want to leave to play at another club: Piero Hincapié (22).

“The Ecuadorian is being courted by English clubs like Tottenham. Transfer fee: at least €40m, which Simon Rolfes and Xabi Alonso could immediately invest in the new team.”

€40m (£34.1m) will be the minimum starting point, though it has to be said it’s an extremely cheap asking price (by Premier League standards) for one of the top emerging defensive talents in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou has made transfer objective clear

If players are only joining Tottenham to benefit from their potential Champions League status in 2024/25.

A reasonable position to make clear ahead of the summer and, more importantly, a follow-up campaign in which the North London outfit will hope to seriously improve on.

Adding a likely title winner to the group, provided Piero Hincapie meets the criteria set out by Spurs’ affable head coach, would certainly support that aim.

Competition for Gudmundsson

Inter Milan have already taken important steps with both the player and Genoa and aren’t deemed far from finalising an agreement in principle with the 26-year-old and his entourage. Further contact is expected in the coming weeks to discuss the financials of a potential deal.

The Rossoblu, on their part, have enquired about Mattia Zanotti (now on loan at St. Gallen in Switzerland) with Djed Spence not currently convincing. Zanotti could, perhaps, be included in a deal to lower Gudmundsson’s asking price.

Levy said, as quoted by the Express: “To capitalise on our long-term potential, to continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects, the club requires a significant increase in its equity base. Tottenham plan to bring in at least one new striker this summer – what will be a year on from Harry Kane’s departure.

Champions League football qualification will certainly help in that regard, but either way, Spurs want to strengthen their forward line with at least one top-level player.

The London-based outfit would like to beat out the competition for Santiago Gimenez’s signature. The club has already made contact with the Feyenoord star (who was their No.1 target after Kane’s exit) and the Mexican is very much the top priority target for the No.9 position.

The 22-year-old has been in fine form this term, registering 24 goals and five assists in 35 games for the Eredivisie club.

Tottenham’s other transfer business

Ange Postecoglou’s side, of course, have alternative options on their transfer shortlist. Dusan Vlahovic, Jonathan David, Evan Ferguson and Ivan Toney are also noted as alternatives.

That said, Spurs are confident of landing the Feyenoord frontman this summer and talks are intensifying.

Spurs in for Gudmundsson?

Further bolstering of the forward line may not end there. Tottenham could utilise their positive relationship with Genoa to lift another player from their ranks in Albert Gudmundsson.

The Icelandic star is also being watched by Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus and comes with a price tag of roughly €30m.

Genoa, however, are banking on an auction for the 26-year-old’s services, which would then up his potential sale value this summer.

Christian Falk has confirmed Timo Werner’s desire to remain with Tottenham beyond the summer window.

The former RB Leipzig striker – described as a ‘special’ player by former manager Frank Lampard (via football.london) –  will set back Spurs £14.57m should they wish to exercise a purchase option included in the German’s loan deal.

“Timo Werner still has a contract with RB Leipzig until 2026. He would like to stay in London at Tottenham beyond the summer. But will the Spurs also take action?” the head of football at the BILD Group informed CaughtOffside in his exclusive column.

“The club has a purchase option worth €17m in the loan agreement.

“Interesting: Tottenham has to pull the clause by June 14th – until the start of the European Championship!”

With the 28-year-old showing more than a few glimpses of his old, lethal self, the Londoners would perhaps be wise to seriously consider taking advantage of their option before the Euros.

Last chance saloon for Werner’s career?

If things don’t work out under Ange Postecoglou, it’s difficult to see who else in England would be prepared to take a punt on Werner beyond this season.

With four goal contributions in eight league showings (at a rate of one every 111.5 minutes) is far from poor, of course, and there are signs that the striker could prove a valuable asset.

A strong finish to the second half of the campaign, and his loan spell, however, would go a long way to convincing Spurs’ hierarchy of that notion.

Conor Gallagher is a target for Tottenham and journalist Paul Brown thinks it’s “clear” that Chelsea want to sell him and will accept “less than” their stated asking price.

The Blues don’t appear to be sure if they want Gallagher in the first place. It is evident that Maurico Pochettino wants to keep the midfield player with the team.

Having played in every game this season that he has been available, Pochettino has shown his desire to keep Gallagher. In Reece James’ absence, the midfielder was even given the captain’s armband.

However, Brown feels the Blues want to sell Gallagher and in order to do that, they are even willing to accept a lower price for him.

“It’s clear that Chelsea are willing to sell him. It’s also clear that nobody is willing to pay the asking price,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT.

“Everyone thinks that Chelsea will fold on this and be willing to accept less than they have publicly hinted he might go for.”

Tottenham will try to take advantage of whatever discounts they receive in order to complete the signing.

It won’t be shocking if Chelsea allows the buying side, who is most likely to be their London rivals, to pay less than what was first offered if they are genuinely ready to sell.

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all [if Tottenham make a bid]. You might even see something as late as deadline day for Conor Gallagher,” Brown said.

“I think Spurs are still in the race here, and I would expect them to be one of the clubs that express an interest right up until the end of the window.

“Conor Gallagher’s position is a really interesting one. I think he could play for many different clubs in the Premier League, and he would certainly do a good job at Spurs. I’m fully expecting some kind of offer to materialise late in the day from Spurs.”

Sources with an understanding of the developing situation have informed CaughtOffside that discussions are ongoing between Spurs and Ronny Deila’s side for Antonio Nusa.

The Belgian Pro League club have already set an asking price of around €30m (£25.6m), though the Londoners have yet to submit any bid thus far.

They may find competition in the form of Newcastle and city rivals Chelsea, both of whom are interested in the young Norwegian, with the latter having already begun preliminary talks with Brugge as a potential alternative to Estêvão.

Tottenham fans need not fear in this instance, however, with sources noting that Ange Postecoglou’s side may have the upper hand after having achieved a general understanding on personal terms.

Further business in the summer

That’s not to suggest the top four hopefuls will only seek out Nusa to bolster their forward line.

Spurs are understood to be keen to land a top striker following the departure of record goalscorer Harry Kane.

One option, the club’s hierarchy has in mind to fill the No.9 void is that of Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez who has registered 21 goals and five assists in 24 games this term (across all competitions).

The Premier League outfit considers the Mexican the ideal profile in terms of his technical and physical traits – most importantly a pure centre-forward like their once highly-prized England international.

Tottenham expect it to be considerably challenging to lure the 22-year-old away from the Eredivisie, however, and so have lined up alternative targets, including Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

The former Coventry City forward, arriving in the Portuguese top-flight for €20m (£17.1m) last summer, has been in sensational form this term, registering 32 goal contributions in 26 games (across all competitions).

As such, Sporting are expecting plenty of interest from potential suitors come the summer.

Tottenham are looking to address a number of issues in their squad in the January transfer window.

Spurs have been linked with a number of midfielders and defenders in recent weeks but the player they are looking to sign is a replacement of Harry Kane.

Kane joined Bayern Munich in the summer after a long transfer saga that saw the England striker leave the Premier League and move to Germany for a new challenge.

Spurs have used the options available to them; Richarlison and Heung-Min Son as their forwards but the Premier League club are now looking to add a proper replacement of Kane to their squad.

Ben Jacobs confirmed while speaking on Last Word on Spurs that the North London club are genuinely interested in signing Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord.

“Yeah I think that Tottenham are assessing if they can bring in a wide forward or a goalscorer, I think a really concrete target is Santiago Gimenez, but that’s one for the summer, there will be no exit as I’m aware in January, or if there is to be one it would be an incredible amount of money for Feyenoord,” Jacobs said.

Gimenez has been on fire in the Eredivisie this season. The striker has played 16 games this season in the league and scored 18 goals.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed his club’s desire to sign players soon and help them build on an impressive season.

Replacing Kane at Tottenham sounds easy but it’s going to be difficult for them to actually find a player who can fill the big gap left by the England captain.
