Brighton and Hove Albion attacking midfielder Julio Enciso is in Copa America action for Paraguay.

The South American scored against Columbia on Monday night during a 2-1 defeat but was undoubtedly a standout performer despite his country’s disappointing result.

And according to a recent report from Fichajes, one club that remains interested in the 20-year-old and is ‘closely following’ his progress is Chelsea.

The Blues, known for their acquisition of young talent under US billionaire owner Todd Boehly, are believed to be big admirers of the Seagulls’ number 10.

Julio Enciso stared Paraguay’s Copa America 2-1 defeat against Columbia.

Brighton will know how much of a talent they have on their hands though, and even though Chelsea pose a transfer risk in terms of their wealth and their European project on offer, Tony Bloom — a fierce negotiator — is unlikely to part with Enciso for a cut-price fee.

How much would Enciso cost?

In fact, according to these latest reports, the Seagulls owner values the Paraguay international at a whopping £50 million (€60 million).

Chelsea are battling to stay within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules, and having spent well over £1 billion on talent in the past two years, it remains to be seen how successful the six-times league winner can be during the summer window.

Nevertheless, suggestions the London-giants are interested in Enciso will excite fans who have become accustom to seeing the 20-year-old appear in the Premier League.

Since joining Brighton two years ago from South American club Libertad, Enciso, who has two years left on his contract, has scored four goals and registered five assists in 41 games in all competitions.

Brighton & Hove Albion standout Julio Enciso made history starting for Paraguay in their 2-1 loss to open their 2024 Copa América tournament on Monday at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The statistical account OptaJavier highlighted a couple of intriguing stats about the 20-year-old, which reveal impressive performance and a bright future.

According to the statistical media outlet, Enciso, at 20 years and 153 days old, is the second youngest player from Paraguay to start in the last seven editions of the Copa América. He’s only beaten by Antonio Sanabria, who achieved this at 20 years and 100 days old in 2016 against the USA.

Enciso’s starting for La Albirroja proved crucial, as the youngster scored Paraguay’s only goal of the match. Tallares star Ramón Sosa put a cross into the box, and Enciso’s shot found the back of the net.

Moreover, the outlet noted that Enciso had the most shots (four) in the match between Paraguay and Colombia and led his team in passes in the final third (10).

Paraguay will look for a bounce-back performance on Friday when they face Brazil at Allegiant Stadium.

Brighton have taken the lead at the Emirates against Arsenal thanks to a header from Julio Enciso.

The Seagulls have been in control of the match throughout the opening 55 minutes and had the best chance in the first half when Enciso missed an open goal by blasting a shot over the crossbar.

However, the 19-year-old made up for that in the second 45 as the Brighton star headed in the opener after 51 minutes to give the away side a deserved lead.

Arsenal and Brighton head into the break at the Emirates tied at 0-0 and there have been very few clear-cut chances but here are the best that have been created. 

The Seagulls are in control of the match and had the best chance of the match through Enciso but the 19-year-old missed an open goal as he leant back before blasting the ball over the bar.

Arsenal’s best chance came through Trossard, who was so close to scoring against his old club but hit the crossbar on the half-hour mark.

The will surely be a goal in the second 45 but the best of the first can be seen below.

After yet another reverse under his stewardship, Frank Lampard wasn’t ready to let his Chelsea squad get away with a poor standard of performance against Brighton.

Things were looking up for ‘Super’ Frank on his home return to the dugout, with the crowd showing their appreciation by unfurling a huge banner and chanting his name.

When Conor Gallagher put the hosts ahead, everything was rosy at Stamford Bridge.

The mood quickly changed, however, as first Danny Welbeck struck before half time, and then Julio Enciso fired a rocket past a flailing Kepa Arrizabalaga to give the Seagulls all three points.

That meant three defeats in three games for Lampard and his men with only one goal scored – and a Champions League return against Real Madrid in a few days. Clearly, the dream return has turned into a nightmare in west London.

Rather than accept some of the blame himself for tactics that appeared woefully inadequate – and saw Kepa apparently giving out tactical instructions to his defenders (pictures courtesy of Sky Sports) – he went to town on his players in his post-match interview.

“I’m disappointed on every level. The better team won. They could have won by more. They played like a team. They’ve been together a long time,” he was quoted as saying by Goal.com.

“Not good enough. All the basic parts of football – to fight, to run – we were short on.”

BBC Sport also noted his words: “I’ve been at the club nine days. I don’t like what I saw today.

“I’m not going to try to dress that up in any way. There should be a feeling when you play for Chelsea where you’re proud.

“To get there, there needs to be a new energy. That needs to come back. At the moment we’re not in the perfect place.”

Arsenal are believed to be closely monitoring South-American duo, Alexis Duarte of Cerro Porteno and Julio Enciso of Libertad according to football.london.

Gunners technical director ‘Edu’ appears to be continuing his aggressive scour of South America in a search to find undiscovered talent to bring to the Emirates, starting with a centre-back and centre-forward.

According to a South-American news outlet, Cronica, Arsenal scout, Everton Gushiken, was in attendance for the Paraguayan League’s top-of-the-table clash between Cerro Porteño and Libertad, where he was scouting centre-back, Alexis Duarte, from Cerro Porteño and striker Julio Enciso from Libertad. The duo are believed to cost Arsenal a combined fee of around £10.6million according to the reports.

Enciso, the 18-year-old forward for Libertad already has 10 goals and an assist to his name this season, in just 10 games, and has also played five games for the Paraguay national side having made the leap all the way from the under-16s.

On the other end of the pitch, Alexis Duarte has helped his side keep seven clean sheets in the last 11 games, including the 4-0 defeat of Enciso’s Libertad at the weekend – the game at which Arsenal scouts were present.

Whether the two talents are at a level where they could be considered starters at the Emirates remains to be seen, however, the positions of the two players are key. Arsenal could have a gaping hole at the top end of the pitch this summer, with Lacazette and Nketiah both edging closer to the exit door, Enciso could play more of a senior role than many may anticipate should Arsenal get the deal done. Defensive reinforcements will also be key for Arteta, and Duarte’s versatility may offer exactly what they’re looking for – predominantly a centre-half, but comfortable operating in the right-back spot when required.
