Chelsea have approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen as Enzo Maresca looks to address the Blues goalkeeper issues before the 2024/25 campaign gets underway next month. 

The West London club signed two shot-stoppers last summer in the form of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, but both have not been deemed satisfactory by the new Chelsea coach.

The signing of the Spaniard was an unusual one given he was the number two at Brighton and following an injury, Petrovic would step up and play the entire second half of the season. The Serbian did well in the Blues’ net, but Maresca would like an upgrade in the position at Stamford Bridge.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen to get a deal done with talks having started with the player. The Swedish shot-stopper is believed to be keen on the move but nothing is close as of now.

The transfer journalist states that Mads Hermansen is also on the London club’s list as Maresca worked with the 24-year-old at Leicester City last season.

Both goalkeepers are very young for the position as the Premier League club’s board continues to try and build a young squad at Stamford Bridge.

Who is Chelsea target Filip Jorgensen?

Jorgenson is a 22-year-old talent who became the starting goalkeeper for Villarreal last season having come through the La Liga club’s youth academy and making his debut during the campaign before.

The Swedish shot-stopper featured in 37 games for the yellow submarine, keeping just six clean sheets in what was a tricky campaign for the club.

Jorgenson has caught the attention of a lot of clubs as he is a very modern goalkeeper with the 22-year-old being exceptional with his feet. This will be one of the biggest attractions for Chelsea, but it is still a big risk handing the number one jersey of a Premier League club as big as the Blues to someone so young.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is a big admirer of Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, but it’s unclear if the Blues will make a move according to journalist Tom Collomosse.

It’s been a busy summer at Stamford Bridge with six new faces coming through the door already as the club look to strengthen the squad in an attempt to get back into the Champions League next season.

The Blues head off to America on Monday for their pre-season tour, and are reportedly in the market for a goalkeeper, winger and striker, although it’s unclear how many more signings they will make.

Maresca admires Mads Hermansen

It was reported last week that Chelsea were going to enter the market for a new goalkeeper, with good distribution an essential factor.

The Blues signed Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic last summer, but Maresca clearly feels it’s an area that needs improving.

Sanchez started the season as number one, but after a solid start he made a number of errors and lost his place to Petrovic last December when he got injured and didn’t win it back.

Petrovic impressed in the Chelsea goal, but his style isn’t suited to what Maresca is said to want from his goalkeepers, and the west London club are believed to have offered him to Serie A side Genoa.

However, Mail Sport’s Collomosse has reported Maresca is a big admirer of Hermansen, who is said to be valued at around £45m.

Maresca knows the Dane well having signed him for Leicester last summer, and he would certainly tick the boxes for what Chelsea are looking for in a new keeper.

The 24-year-old made 44 appearances in the Championship and kept 13 clean sheets as the Foxes won the title last season.

If Hermansen does make the move to Stamford Bridge he would be following in the footsteps of Maresca and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Chelsea have also been recently linked with James Trafford, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Filip Jorgensen, who is believed to have a release clause of £35m.

Chelsea are reportedly keen on the potential transfer of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford this summer as they keep an eye on options to strengthen in goal.

Fabrizio Romano yesterday wrote in his Daily Briefing column about Chelsea being keen to keep faith with Robert Sanchez as their number one ‘keeper for next season, but it seems other outlets still seem to be hearing about other options being considered.

There are two names on Chelsea’s radar in goal, according to The Athletic, with Burnley shot-stopper Trafford admired by the Blues, while Enzo Maresca is also keen on his former player Mads Hermansen at Leicester City.

Sanchez only joined Chelsea from Brighton last season, but he wasn’t entirely convincing so it perhaps makes sense that the west London giants are now considering a change.

Trafford transfer: Should Chelsea replace Sanchez in goal?

Trafford looks like a player with a big future in the game, even if the 21-year-old couldn’t quite do enough to help Burnley stay up in the Premier League last season.

The Clarets ended up being relegated to the Championship, so that could perhaps mean Trafford is now available on the market this summer.

Chelsea fans might be keen to see the club bring in an upgrade on Sanchez, but at the same time there’ll also surely be some who are desperate for a bit more stability after so much chopping and changing of players and managers in the last few years.

Sanchez could still improve once he’s given a bit more time to settle, while he’d also surely benefit from improved performances from the players in front of him, so simply signing someone like Trafford as a replacement might not really be the solution at all.

On top of that, this deal would surely not come cheap as Burnley will know they have a big talent on their hands that they won’t want to lose too easily.

Leicester City are closing in on a deal to sign the Brondby goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

According to reports, the 23-year-old goalkeeper is headed to the English club in a deal worth around £6 million.

He has been linked with clubs like Everton and Fulham recently but the Denmark international is likely to play for Leicester City next season.

The goalkeeper is thought to be keen on taking on a new adventure this summer and a move away from Brondby. His wish is likely to be fulfilled with Leicester closing in on the transfer now.

With three weeks to go until the start of the 2023/24 Championship season, Enzo Maresca is seemingly working the transfer market efficiently to give his Leicester side the best chance of bouncing back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Although he’s lost James Maddison to Tottenham, Youri Tielemans to Aston Villa and Harvey Barnes is likely to move to Newcastle at some point shortly, Conor Coady and Harry Winks have already been added.

Now Maresca is looking to strengthen in the goalkeeping department too, and the Foxes are already in talks with a highly-rated 23-year-old.

What’s more is he plays alongside former Leicester custodian, Kasper Schmeichel, for the Danish national team.

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester have opened talks over £5m deal for Brondby’s Mads Hermansen.

Twenty-three is no age for a goalkeeper and, if the Foxes are successful in their pursuit of the player, there’s every reason to believe that he could be the club’s No.1 for the next 10-15 years.

Maresca will need a strong keeper and defence as a foundation to build upon if he wants his team to be successful, and it will be interesting to see what tips he has picked up from working alongside Pep Guardiola at Man City.

Everton, Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley are also said to be interested in the keeper, so if Leicester can get this one over the line, it could be a real coup for them.
