Chelsea have approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen as Enzo Maresca looks to address the Blues goalkeeper issues before the 2024/25 campaign gets underway next month. 

The West London club signed two shot-stoppers last summer in the form of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, but both have not been deemed satisfactory by the new Chelsea coach.

The signing of the Spaniard was an unusual one given he was the number two at Brighton and following an injury, Petrovic would step up and play the entire second half of the season. The Serbian did well in the Blues’ net, but Maresca would like an upgrade in the position at Stamford Bridge.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen to get a deal done with talks having started with the player. The Swedish shot-stopper is believed to be keen on the move but nothing is close as of now.

The transfer journalist states that Mads Hermansen is also on the London club’s list as Maresca worked with the 24-year-old at Leicester City last season.

Both goalkeepers are very young for the position as the Premier League club’s board continues to try and build a young squad at Stamford Bridge.

Who is Chelsea target Filip Jorgensen?

Jorgenson is a 22-year-old talent who became the starting goalkeeper for Villarreal last season having come through the La Liga club’s youth academy and making his debut during the campaign before.

The Swedish shot-stopper featured in 37 games for the yellow submarine, keeping just six clean sheets in what was a tricky campaign for the club.

Jorgenson has caught the attention of a lot of clubs as he is a very modern goalkeeper with the 22-year-old being exceptional with his feet. This will be one of the biggest attractions for Chelsea, but it is still a big risk handing the number one jersey of a Premier League club as big as the Blues to someone so young.

Chelsea may reportedly have had a recent interest in the potential transfer of Danish goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, but he’s now staying at Villarreal, having signed a new contract.

This surely puts an end to speculation over Jorgensen’s future, despite a recent report from Relevo stating that Chelsea had asked about the 22-year-old’s situation.

Chelsea could perhaps have done with making a change in goal this summer after unconvincing form from both Robert Sanchez and Djorde Petrovic last season, and Jorgensen looks like a fine talent who could shine for a top Premier League club.

Still, CFC may have to be happy to stick with the options they already have, or else look for alternatives in the goalkeeper market.

Will Chelsea still target a new goalkeeper signing?

Romano recently suggested that Chelsea would no longer be prioritising a signing in goal this summer, with new manager Enzo Maresca said to be happy with Sanchez.

We’re not sure all Chelsea fans will agree with this, but it seems Maresca has communicated clearly that he likes the Spanish shot-stopper, who only joined from Brighton a year ago anyway.

It perhaps seems a bit soon to be giving up on Sanchez, so Chelsea might do well to show faith in hi and focus instead on other areas that also clearly need strengthening, such as the attack.

Romano also covered that in his Daily Briefing column earlier today, reporting on the Blues advancing on a possible deal to bring in Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, a winger could also be on the agenda as Chelsea are alongside the likes of Arsenal in monitoring Nico Williams, CaughtOffside understands.

Chelsea announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca on Monday afternoon following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, with the Italian signing a five year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca will be under pressure from day one and will be expected to guide Chelsea back into the Champions League and bring silverware to west London.

Jorgensen describes Chelsea links as “fun”

Chelsea are set for another busy summer with the club reportedly targeting four signings, a goalkeeper, left back, centre back and striker.

The Blues signed two goalkeepers last summer, but Maresca is said to want to sign a new one, despite recent reports saying he likes Robert Sanchez and believes he can get the best out of the 26-year-old.

Burnley’s James Trafford, Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia and Jorgensen have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with Maresca’s system said to favour a ball playing keeper.

Jorgensen was questioned about the links of a move to Chelsea and described them as fun whilst adding there’s no set plan for his future.

“It is fun, it shows that I have done something good and done it well,” he told Tipsbladet.

“I just want to get better every day and do the best I can, there is no definite plan.

At the moment discussions with the English player are progressing well and are at a good level, and Chelsea feel that they are in a good position compared to their rivals.

In recent days, Adarabioyo has also been approached by Newcastle, who retain a strong interest in him and won’t give up, and by Manchester United.

Nevertheless, the Blues are convinced that they can finalise the deal, and the player’s decision is expected very shortly.

In the meantime, Fulham, who will say goodbye to Adarabioyo in the next few days, have once again reopened contact with Trevoh Chalobah’s representatives.

The Chelsea defender, whose contract expires in 2028, wants to play regularly and now considers Fulham a useful destination for this purpose.

A new goalkeeper is also on the shopping list at Stamford Bridge, and one of the favoured profiles is that of Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the goalkeeper as well, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for Jorgensen in the summer. Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with the move away from the club and the Reds will have to replace him adequately.

The 25-year-old has been exceptional as the back up goalkeeper and he has excelled in the absence of Alisson Becker. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career and joining a club where he will be the first-choice goalkeeper would be ideal for his development. Jorgensen could be a quality alternative to Kelleher and he could be the ideal understudy to Alisson.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool would represent an excellent move for the player and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
