There’s been an interesting Chelsea transfer news update as the Blues seem to have identified their main target up front out of four main options, with Samu Omorodion currently looking preferred to the likes of Alexander Isak, Jonathan David and Jhon Duran.
Chelsea could do well to make a big-name signing up front this summer after Nicolas Jackson’s unconvincing form for much of last season, even if he ended the campaign well, and one imagines Omorodion could be someone who’d make a big difference.
According to The Athletic, an enquiry was made for Newcastle United star Isak earlier in the summer, while interest in both David and Duran seems to have cooled.
It will be interesting to see if this means Chelsea can now step up their pursuit of Omorodion, even if it doesn’t necessarily look like Atletico Madrid want to sell the 20-year-old Spain Under-21 international.
Omorodion transfer: Chelsea eye new signing up front and could sell three strikers
As well as targeting a signing like Omorodion up front, The Athletic also report that CFC are likely to sell strikers this summer, with fans unlikely to be surprised to see that Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja have no future at Stamford Bridge.
David Datro Fofana could also be shown the door despite barely getting any playing time since becoming a Chelsea player, which perhaps casts some doubt over how committed the owners are to this long-term project if they’re willing to give up on some of these young players so quickly.
Still, Chelsea fans would probably welcome that kind of ruthlessness as they clearly need to give new manager Enzo Maresca a better squad to work with after the team only managed to finish 6th under Mauricio Pochettino last season, whilst once again finishing the campaign without winning any silverware.
