There’s always so much transfer news to sift through at this time of the year, but we’ve put together ten deals that genuinely look like ones to watch out for very soon, if Fabrizio Romano and other top journalists are anything to go by.

While there’s still plenty of time left until Deadline Day, and we’ve seen more than a few twists and turns in some major sagas in recent times, here’s a look at some signings that should go through soon due to being at an advanced stage, or that are at least being worked on at the moment.

Read on four our pick of ten transfer deals to watch out for next this summer…

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal

After weeks of speculation, it now looks like the Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal transfer deal is more or less a done deal, with just some formalities remaining before it can be made official, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column earlier today, Romano said: “Riccardo Calafiori and Arsenal – the ‘here we go’ is coming because there is an agreement between Arsenal and Bologna on a €40m fixed fee, €5m in add-ons, and a sell-on clause for Bologna.

“Calafiori had already agreed a contract with Arsenal back in June, which would be until 2029, so everything is ready for him to go to Arsenal.

“Despite some reports that the deal had stalled, the reality is that the negotiations never stopped. It was not easy, but they kept going, and now there’s an agreement.”

Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United

After some exciting early deals for young talents Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, Manchester United could make another smart move to strengthen their squad as they’ve agreed personal terms with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

As also reported by Romano, Ugarte wants to join Man Utd, and the Uruguay international looks like he could be an important upgrade on inconsistent performers like Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat, who looked far from good enough for much of last season.

This perhaps isn’t as advanced as something like the Calafiori to Arsenal deal, as United still need to agree a deal with PSG, but one imagines they’ll be prepared t let him go as they have a midfield signing of their own in the works. More on that next…

Joao Neves to PSG

Although it’s not done yet, PSG are accelerating their efforts to sign Benfica midfield wonderkid Joao Neves, as French football expert Jonathan Johnson exclusively told us for his column last week.

Neves is one of the most exciting young players in the world in his position, and it makes sense that the Ligue 1 giants seem keen to offload someone like Ugarte and bring in this exciting long-term addition who perhaps looks a better fit for Luis Enrique’s style of play.

“Joao Neves to PSG looks to be accelerating at the moment, with PSG stealing a march on other European competitors,” Johnson said on Thursday.

“PSG are looking to negotiate a deal with Benfica, with Neves happy to make the move to the Parc des Princes. It’s now down to the two clubs to reach an agreement.”

Victor Osimhen to PSG

Another big name to watch for PSG will be Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is another concrete target for the French champions as they look for a big-name signing up front to replace departing star Kylian Mbappe.

Osimhen to PSG looks to be advancing, as Romano recently told us, and it’s fair to say the Nigeria international will be one of the biggest names to move this summer if this deal does go through.

Napoli aren’t an easy club to negotiate with, so this one can’t be considered a done deal yet, but it seems there is serious intent there from PSG, who surely need upgrades on last summer’s unconvincing new attacking duo Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani.

Victor Osimhen to PSG and Romelu Lukaku to Napoli?

Romelu Lukaku to Napoli

If Osimhen does leave Napoli for PSG, Romano has made it clear that Romelu Lukaku to Napoli would be one to watch, with the Belgian striker surely having no future at Chelsea.

Lukaku has been out on loan for the last two seasons, first at Inter Milan and then at Roma, and it seems he could now be set for a spell with a third Serie A club.

Even if Lukaku has flopped at Chelsea, Napoli would surely be pretty happy with him as a replacement for Osimhen up front, especially as one imagines he probably wouldn’t be too expensive.

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has barely had any opportunities this past season and he needs to move on in search of regular playing time.

According to a report from talkSPORT, Crystal Palace are keen on signing him this summer and they are preparing a £30 million offer to sign the player.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are ready to sanction his departure if a suitable offer is presented. The Gunners value him around £35-40 million and it will be interesting to see if their valuation is met in the coming weeks.

Apart from Crystal Palace, the likes of Aston Villa and Napoli are keen on the 23-year-old as well.

Crystal Palace could certainly use a quality attacking midfielder, especially with players like Eberechi Eze linked with an exit. Michael Olise joined Bayern Munich earlier this summer as well. The Eagles need more technicality and creativity in the final third. The 23-year-old midfielder was regarded as one of the finest young midfield prospects in English football a few years ago, and he will be hoping to get back to that level once again.

Crystal Palace and Aston Villa want to sign Emile Smith Rowe.

Smith Rowe to Crystal Palace or Aston Villa?

Smith Rowe could prove to be a long-term investment for Crystal Palace if they can get the deal done. It is fair to assume that they have the funds to get the deal done, especially after selling Olise to the Bundesliga for a fee of £60 million.

The 23-year-old Arsenal midfielder will look to get his career back on track and he will look to join a club who are capable of competing at a reasonably high-level. Crystal Palace have a talented squad and a quality manager in Oliver Glasner. They could be an attractive destination for the player.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa would be an exciting option for him as well. He has played under Unai Emery during the time together at Arsenal and a reunion with the Spanish manager could be tempting.

Emile Smith Rowe is expected to leave Arsenal during the current transfer window and it is being reported that Crystal Palace are preparing a bid for the 23-year-old.

Fulham made an attempt to sign the midfielder this week as Marco Silva looks to strengthen his midfield following the departure of Joao Palhinha. Still, the Cottagers failed to convince Arsenal to sell the Englishman and have now left the door open for other clubs to enter the race.

The London club submitted an offer of around £30m plus add-ons for Smith Rowe but the Gunners rejected the proposal.

This indicates that Arsenal could seek close to the £50m mark for the 23-year-old, which is a lot for a player who has just two years remaining on his current deal and hasn’t played a lot over recent seasons.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace will now try and convince Arsenal to sell Smith Rowe as the Eagles are preparing to send a proposal.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner is said to be a big admirer of the Englishman and wants the Arsenal star at Selhurst Park this season.

Are Arsenal asking too much for Crystal Palace target Emile Smith Rowe?

Smith Rowe has been with Arsenal his entire career and many thought he was on course to become a superstar following his impressive 2021/22 campaign.

However, injuries have affected his development and recent seasons have seen the 23-year-old slip down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order. The Englishman is not guaranteed many minutes at the Emirates Stadium and it would be best for the player to try a new challenge.

Smith Rowe only received 475 minutes of action last season in all competions, therefore, Arsenal’s asking price is quite high, especially when the midfielder only has two years remaining on his current deal.

The North London club may have to lower their asking price for the Englishman if they want to part ways with him this summer.

A lot of clubs will not be willing to pay over £50m for Smith Rowe as it remains to be seen what the Crystal Palace bid will be.

Crystal Palace had a bid rejected from Arsenal for midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe.

However, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Eagles are set to return with another bid for the Arsenal player.

The Gunners are looking to cash in on the midfielder this summer as the player does not have a place in manager Mikel Arteta’s plans.

The English midfielder was barely used by the Spaniard last season and with no indication of his playing time improving at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners are ready to let him leave.

Crystal Palace and Fulham have both shown interest in the services of the midfielder and they have both seen their first bid get rejected by the North Londoners.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told GiveMeSport:

“There’s been strong interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham and we expected bids to go in. That has transpired and they have both made bids for Smith Rowe. Both bids were rejected.

“It’s expected now that discussions will continue internally at both clubs over whether to go back in with an improved offer, which we fully expect to happen.”

Crystal Palace move can revive Smith-Rowe’s career

Smith-Rowe is under contract until 2026 at Arsenal but the midfielder has struggled with his fitness and form at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have a number of other midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order and with a new signing expected to arrive this summer, it will be a cause of huge concern to the player.

Palace are looking to add creativity to their team after losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

Crystal Palace are reportedly expected to launch an official transfer bid for Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe amid interest from Fulham.

The 23-year-old has struggled for playing time in Mikel Arteta’s side for the last couple of years, despite having previously shown plenty of potential since rising up from the club’s academy into the first-team.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are now braced for more bids for Smith Rowe after rejecting an initial approach from Fulham, with Palace also showing an interest in the England international as he’s expected to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

It’s surely a good time for Arsenal to cash in on Smith Rowe as his value could soon drop, meaning they’d miss out on this opportunity to make pure profit on the sale of a homegrown player.

Emile Smith Rowe could leave Arsenal

Smith Rowe transfer: Can he still have a good Premier League career?

Of course, some Arsenal fans are likely to be nervous about the potential sale of a talent like Smith Rowe, who might still have it in him to shine in the Premier League and have a good career at this level.

For now, it seems unlikely that that will happen for him at Arsenal given the competition for places in Arteta’s midfield, but he certainly seems more than good enough to have a really positive impact at somewhere like Fulham or Palace.

Oliver Glasner has done impressive work at Selhurst Park since taking charge last season, and one imagines a player like Smith Rowe would relish the chance to work with him and improve in the way that others like Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton have.

It won’t be easy for AFC supporters to see this popular local lad shining for a rival club, but at the same time it seems the best for all parties involved to go their separate ways now.

Crystal Palace are looking to add a new player to their attacking midfield position after losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

Manager Oliver Glasner will have a crucial summer at Selhurst Park as he could be forced to replace a number of key players at the club.

Defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Eberechi Eze have also been linked with moves away from the club, which is not good news for Glasner and the Palace fans.

The Eagles are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe this summer in order to add an attacking threat to their midfield.

The Times have reported that the Gunners have turned down offers for Emith Rowe from Palace and Fulham.

To recruit the attacking midfield player, a bid of about £30 million will need to be made by any interested party.

After not being used by Mikel Arteta enough and not getting many opportunities to play, the midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are now ready to cash in on him this summer and looking to generate funds through his sale in order to finance their transfer business.

Arteta is an admirer of the player but he is finding it difficult to fit the midfielder in his starting line up.

Smith-Rowe should consider Palace move

Smith-Rowe made only three starts in the Premier League last season and if the Gunners can get a good amount of fee for him this summer, they would consider letting him go.

Glasner has shown how impressive he can be with young attacking players and Smith-Rowe should think about joining the Eagles to revive his career that looked promising at one stage.

Arsenal have rejected bids from Crystal Palace and Fulham for Emile Smith Rowe according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

It’s been a quiet transfer window for the Gunners so far as the club look to strengthen a squad that narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City last season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are trying to wrap up a deal for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori but a fee between the two clubs seems to be a stumbling point, whilst several fringe players have departed the club.

Arsenal reject Smith-Rowe bids

Smith Rowe, who came through the Arsenal academy is a player this is expected to leave the Emirates this summer in search of more regular first team football.

Sky Sports reporter Sheth has stated that Crystal Palace and Fulham have had bids rejected for Smith-Rowe with discussions taking place at both clubs about whether to return with an improved offer.

He took to X.com and said:

“BREAKING: Arsenal reject bids from Fulham & Crystal Palace for forward Emile Smith Rowe.

“Discussions ongoing at both clubs over whether to go back in with improved offer.

“Smith Rowe wants to assess all options – regular first team football is primary motivation. #AFC #FFC #CPFC.”

The 23-year-old has been at Arsenal since the age of ten, and had a breakout season under Arteta during the 2020/2021 campaign, but injuries have severely limited his minutes over the past two yeas.

Smith Rowe is out of contract at the Emirates in 2026, but with a new deal highly unlikely, this summer represents the best chance for Arsenal to get the highest fee possible.

The academy graduate made 19 appearances last season in all competitions, but played a total of just 475 minuted and failed to find the back of the net.

A move to Crystal Palace could be exciting given what Oliver Glasner seems to be building at Selhurst Park with exciting players like Eberechi Eze and Daichi Kamada who has just joined the club this summer.

Now the Euros and the Copa America are over things should start to heat up in the transfer market as pre-season begins and the start of the season draws closer.

Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe is reportedly available for around £25million as Crystal Palace have been named as one of his suitors in a new report.

Smith Rowe has struggled for playing time for the Gunners in the last two seasons and it now seems he could be edging towards the exit, even though his preference is supposedly to stay at the Emirates Stadium, according to the Sun, who state that Palace are interested in him.

Smith Rowe could be a fine signing for the Eagles at the moment as they prepare to lose a key attacking player of their own in the form of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

One imagines Eberechi Eze could be another big name to watch after his impressive performances at Palace, so there would surely be room for Smith Rowe to make the move to Selhurst Park, where he could likely get a key role, unlike his current status as a backup player at Arsenal.

Smith Rowe transfer: What next for the Arsenal misfit?

Smith Rowe is certainly at something of a career crossroads as he struggles for playing time at such a key moment, with the England international now surely needing to decide now if he is to continue to fight for his place in Mikel Arteta’s side or try to build his career somewhere else.

It looks a real uphill battle for him to break into this Arsenal team given the competition in the squad, but he may well also feel he’s more than capable of doing it, with a bit of luck.

AFC will also surely want to have a fair amount of squad depth, which could mean they push for Smith Rowe to stay even if they don’t have big plans for him.

All in all, this should make for an intriguing saga as it’s not the easiest decision for any of the parties involved.

Nico Williams is a talent, but don’t expect Arsenal to break the bank

If Nico Williams wasn’t already in the shop window ahead of Euro 2024, then he certainly is now.

The Athletic Club winger has been electric for Spain and understandably he now has a lot of people talking about him as a potential transfer target this summer.

Arsenal are admirers of the 21-year-old, but so are plenty of other of the top clubs across Europe and that interest is only going to increase as the tournament goes on.

On paper, the release clause of around £50million for Williams looks a very appealing one, but as far as I’m aware it’s not as simple as that.

You have to remember that release clauses in Spain have to be paid in full and that makes deals very expensive as clubs can’t spread the transfer fee out over the length of the contract like they usually do.

But in Williams’ case, the wages are also understood to be a pretty significant issue. Athletic Club are big payers. They have to be to ensure they keep their team together given the unique way the club operates.

So Williams is on good money and the word is that interested clubs have been surprised by the wages he would want to move this summer.

Arsenal are good payers, but they have a wage bill that they have worked hard to get in check in recent years. So they won’t do anything stupid and undo that hard work.

Williams is a talent, but he is still young and relatively inexperienced. For Arsenal to immediately make him one of the highest earners would be a risk, because it could unsettle the squad a bit, especially if he were to come in and suddenly be earning more than some of the experienced players who have been at the club for a while. So all that sort of thing has to be taken into account when it comes to potential deals.

Nico Williams to Arsenal?

Williams is a huge talent and is a player I would love to see at Arsenal. He ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to what the club needs right now. But it has to be a deal that works financially. If it’s not, then there are plenty of other players out there.

Joshua Kimmich would be open to Arsenal, but do they need him?

The links between Joshua Kimmich and Arsenal have been going on a for a while, but it’s not something I’ve really heard anything about myself yet.

A lot of the links seem to suggest that Arsenal are a club he would consider joining should he leave Bayern, rather than Arsenal actually making a move for him.

He’s a wonderful player and would bring quality and versatility to any squad and we know those are traits that Mikel Arteta demands when bringing any player to the club.

While Arsenal usually prefer to go for younger players than Kimmich, they have shown they do sign experience when needed, as was demonstrated when they brought in Jorginho from Chelsea.

That deal turned out to be an excellent one for the club and highlighted the importance of bringing in experience from time to time, especially when the squad is so young.

When I look at Kimmich though, as good as he is, I’m not sure he’s the player Arsenal really need this summer.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be against the signing. You can’t turn your nose up at a player as good as him, but I do think a midfielder with a slightly different profile is what’s needed right now when you look at the current make-up of Arsenal’s squad.

Emile Smith Rowe talks ongoing amid interest from clubs in England, Germany and Italy

I think we’ll find out a bit more about Emile Smith Rowe’s situation soon.

There is widespread interest in him from some clubs, not just in the Premier League, but also in Germany and Italy.

A final decision on his future has not yet been taken, but discussions are going on which should make things clearer soon.

My expectation is still that he will leave and that he will stay in the Premier League. That is certainly his preference.

Fulham are one of the clubs who are understood to be interested in Emile and that is a potential move that makes a lot of sense to me.

They are a good club, with a good manager and look to play football in a way that I think would fit Smith Rowe’s qualities.

Nothing has been decided yet, but my understanding is still that there is an acceptance on the players’ side that he now needs a move to try and kickstart a career that has stalled over the last couple of seasons.

He loves Arsenal, but he wants to play and it’s pretty clear that he is not going to get the opportunity to do that much should he stay for another year.

Gary Neville has got it all wrong with his criticism of Declan Rice

The criticism of Declan Rice has been well over the top since the Denmark game. Honestly, it just makes me laugh.

Look, he had a really poor game by his standards against Denmark. In fact, I think it was his worst performance for club or country since he made his move to Arsenal. But the reason it stood out so much was because that sort of display is such a rarity from him.

I thought Gary Neville’s comments were way over the top as well. Neville saying that Rice is ‘not good’ at playing as a No.6 and that Mikel Arteta moved him further forward because of that was just complete rubbish in my opinion.

Arteta moved him further forward because of Kai Havertz’s sudden emergence as Arsenal’s No.9 over the final months of the season. Havertz suddenly playing as the central striker meant someone had to play in that left eight role next to Odegaard and Rice was the best option for that, especially as Jorginho could fill in behind him. It wasn’t anything to do with Rice’s performances at No.6.

In my opinion he was Arsenal’s stand out player over the first half of the season by a country mile and that was all while playing as the No.6.

Yes, he doesn’t progress the ball like Toni Kroos playing in that role, but there aren’t many players who can, that’s what makes Kroos so special.

Rice is more of a disrupter, someone he sits in front of the back four, wins the ball back and then drives forward.

He’s been one of England’s best players over the past few years, yet suddenly after one bad game he’s getting pelters. It’s well over the top in my opinion. And let’s not forget he was excellent against Serbia in the first game.

Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe could come to a decision on his future soon, according to Charles Watts in the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the piece, Watts explained that Smith Rowe has interest from clubs in England, Germany and Italy, but that talks are ongoing to work out his future.

Fulham have been named as a specific possible destination for Smith Rowe, and Watts says he could see that being a good fit for him, though nothing has been decided just yet.

The England international has shone for Arsenal when he’s managed to get playing time, but he’s had fewer and fewer chances over the last couple of years, so it makes sense that he’s considering his future this summer.

There are surely clubs out there who could give Smith Rowe more opportunities to start games on a regular basis, so it will be interesting to see the outcome of the ongoing discussions over his future.

Smith Rowe transfer update from Charles Watts

Emile Smith Rowe in action for Arsenal

“I think we’ll find out a bit more about Emile Smith Rowe’s situation soon,” Watts said. “There is widespread interest in him from some clubs, not just in the Premier League, but also in Germany and Italy.

“A final decision on his future has not yet been taken, but discussions are going on which should make things clearer soon.

“My expectation is still that he will leave and that he will stay in the Premier League. That is certainly his preference.

“Fulham are one of the clubs who are understood to be interested in Emile and that is a potential move that makes a lot of sense to me.

“They are a good club, with a good manager and look to play football in a way that I think would fit Smith Rowe’s qualities.

“Nothing has been decided yet, but my understanding is still that there is an acceptance on the players’ side that he now needs a move to try and kickstart a career that has stalled over the last couple of seasons.

“He loves Arsenal, but he wants to play and it’s pretty clear that he is not going to get the opportunity to do that much should he stay for another year.”
