Former Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has hit back at online trolls on social media after someone took aim at him for being at a new low simply because he posted pictures of himself working on a building site.

See below as Drinkwater quotes back a post about being at rock bottom, telling users to behave as he enjoys doing this kind of grafting work, even if it’s not exactly the kind of thing you might associate with a former Premier League title winner and England international…

Drinkwater looked a classy performer for that famous 2015/16 Leicester side that stunned world football by winning the title – widely regarded as one of the all-time great upsets in sport, let alone football.

However, things went downhill for Drinkwater after that as he struggled during a spell at Chelsea, barely playing for the Blues and going out on a number of unsuccessful loans.

Now retired from playing, it seems like Drinkwater is just trying to get out and do something he enjoys, so fair play to him for trying to shut up the haters on social media, which can often be such a cruel place.

Enzo Maresca has been working away with his new Chelsea squad during this pre-season, knowing that some of those players do not have a future at the club.

With just over three weeks to go until the 2024/25 Premier League campaign begins, all clubs will want to have a clear idea of not only who their starting XI will be, but also which players remain at their disposal.

From Chelsea’s point of view, Trevoh Chalobah remains surplus to requirements, and CaughtOffside sources now understand that the player himself is willing to move on elsewhere to continue his professional career.

Chelsea to sell Trevoh Chalobah, three EPL clubs circling

Fortunately for the player, the three English top-flight clubs that CaughtOffside sources indicate are interested are all from London.

Crystal Palace, West Ham and Fulham are tracking the 24-year-old English centre-back, and are reportedly keen to fully understand the conditions of any deal.

Trevoh Chalobah in action for Chelsea

The Hammers are believed to be hunting for a replacement for the outgoing Nayef Aguerd, while sources say Crystal Palace want to sign an English player to replace Marc Guehi.

Whilst keeping Guehi is the Eagles’ preference, after his excellent Euro 2024 performances the South Londoners will understand that his value will be maximised and now would be the best time to cash in.

CaughtOffside sources note that Palace will make an opening offer of £20m but Chelsea are minded not to sell for anything below the £25m-£30m mark.

Given that Chalobah is still effectively some way from his ‘prime’ years as a player, whomever ends up signing him can be assured, injuries notwithstanding, that they are getting a bargain and will have a solid, English centre-back at the heart of their defence for years to come.

Chelsea have made some big changes to their squad this summer.

The Blues started the summer with the departure of manager Mauricio Pochettino and the arrival of manager Enzo Maresca.

Some key signings followed as the west Londoners signed Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

With more arrivals expected soon, the club have now shifted their focus to making sales.

Trevoh Chalobah, who played 13 times in the Premier League last season, has been left out of Chelsea’s traveling squad for the busy pre-season tour of the United States.

The defender is now expected to look for a move away as the club feels they are overloaded at the centre-back position due to Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, and Tosin Adarabioyo all being part of the squad to travel.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Chelsea player is sad about the situation considering he feels he performed well towards the end of last season and helped the club secure a top six finish.

Romano said on Youtube:

“Chalobah is really disappointed and sad about the situation. He thought he did his best for Chelsea in the second part of last season after coming back from injury.

“We can say it’s almost over between Chelsea and Trevoh Chalobah; they are looking for solutions. They will look at several possibilities in England, Germany, and Italy.”

Trevoh Chalobah is on his way out of Chelsea.

Chelsea are loaded in the centre-back position

Chelsea currently have the options of Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Disasi along with Adarabioyo and Fofana at the club.

Chalobah has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and instead of keeping the player without the intention of using him, the Blues are ready to cash in on him.

The 25-year-old has attracted interest from Premier League clubs in the past but it remains to be seen who wins the race to sign him.

Considering the talent he has, there should not be shortage of suitors this summer for him.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly edging closer to a transfer to Napoli this summer, with the player and the club just awaiting a final green light now.

Lukaku has not been part of the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge for the last couple of years now, with the Belgium international spending last season on loan at Roma, and the year before that on loan at Inter Milan.

Now Napoli looks like being his next destination, with CalcioNapoli24 reporting that the Blues misfit is just awaiting the green light to travel for his medical and complete the final details of his move, though it’s not yet clear if this is going to be another loan or a permanent transfer this time.

Lukaku could be a fine signing for Napoli if they manage to get this deal done, with the 31-year-old showing signs of getting back to his best with his spell in Serie A last season, while he also looks like just the right kind of striker to play under the tactical set-up of new manager Antonio Conte.

Romelu Lukaku to Napoli?

Lukaku transfer: Chelsea will hope to finally sell expensive flop

Lukaku will have to go down as one of Chelsea’s biggest flops of recent times, with the former Manchester United and Everton man not performing at all despite his big-money move to west London back in the summer of 2021.

It’s not really clear what went wrong for Lukaku, who had impressed in his first spell at Inter before that, bouncing back well from what was also a disappointing period for him at Man Utd between 2017 and 2019.

On his day, Lukaku can be such a powerhouse in attack, but for some reason it just hasn’t happened for him in his two spells at top Premier League clubs, and that will surely always be a big regret for him when he looks back on what has otherwise been a fine career at the highest level.

Only Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle outscored Chelsea last season.

The Blues’ Cole Palmer led the way with 25 goals per BBC Sport, with Nicolas Jackson weighing in with 17. Thereafter the goals were spread eight across the squad.

It’s evident that with a target man in situ the West Londoners could really propel themselves up the Premier League in 2024/25.

Chelsea not signing Solanke

A mobile No.9 that also thrives on service has to be a priority for Enzo Maresca and Todd Boehly, however, former Chelsea man, Dominic Solanke, won’t be that man.

Solanke, 26, scored 21 goals and provided three assists last season according to WhoScored, and has shown himself to be a willing runner for Bournemouth, and someone who works hard throughout a game.

He’ll help create chances for the team and for himself rather than expecting to be consistently fed whilst meandering up front and staying out of harms way.

Dominic Solanke is unlikely to be signed by Chelsea
Dominic Solanke is unlikely to be signed by Chelsea

Football Insider are reporting that sources have said that Solanke’s sale price of £65m is too ‘prohibitive.’

On the face of it, that’s an odd statement to be making, given that the Blues have spent a huge amount on players over the past couple of seasons.

Perhaps the very real threat of being docked points because of Financial Fair Play is now having to be taken much more seriously than before.

Of course, Chelsea are well within their rights not to be held to ransom by clubs just because it’s believed that they have the money, though it would be hard to argue against the £65m that Bournemouth want for Solanke not being market value.

One of the form strikers in the English top-flight last season, he proved on multiple occasions that he has what it takes to make a team stronger.

Unless Todd Boehly has bigger fish to fry, not moving for Solanke doesn’t make an awful lot of sense at this point.

Chelsea will be determined to hit the ground running this season under Enzo Maresca.

The pressure on the Italians shoulders is likely to be almost intolerable given the evident need for league and cup success for the club’s owners, something that was seemingly beyond Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter, not that either were really given the time to put their methods into practice.

Just when Poch was getting things right, a decision to part by mutual consent was made.

Thomas Tuchel was also swiftly dismissed by Todd Boehly, who had evidently decided it was time for a change soon after taking over as owner of the club.

From Maresca’s point of view, the strength of the club’s transfer window this summer is likely to have a marked effect on how well Chelsea do in the first half of the campaign, which will also have a direct correlation to the manager’s own position.

One player that the Blues are known to have had in their sights for a while now is Napoli’s brilliant hit-man, Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen deal could be revived by Chelsea

With a reported £113m release clause (The Standard), Osimhen’s hire by Chelsea would’ve seen them almost certainly at the top of the spending charts again, however, more recently the player has edged nearer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

It isn’t clear if the structure of the deal is what had seen PSG move ahead of the Blues in the race to bag the 25-year-old, however, there may yet be hope for Boehly and Co.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) from CaughtOffside columnist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, talks between the French giants and their Italian counterparts have stalled.

That could see Boehly revive Chelsea’s interest in a player who would be the perfect replacement for Romelu Lukaku – the Belgian surely going the other way as part of any deal.

Unusually for Chelsea of late, they’re not having things all their own way in the transfer market.

The Blues under Todd Boehly have become an organisation that has set the pace in the summer windows, whether on incomings or outgoings.

So far this summer, they’ve seen long-term target, Victor Osimhen, potentially slip through their fingers, and though the Nigerian hit-man hasn’t yet put pen to paper on a deal with Paris Saint-Germain, he’s nearer to doing exactly that with the French giants than he is with the West London outfit.

If the American was confident of making a splash with the signing of Spain’s brilliant Nico Williams too, it looks as though that deal is destined to fail as well.

According to transfer expert and CaughtOffside columnist, Fabrizio Romano, the Athletic Club flyer could well be signing for Barcelona.

He notes that the Catalan giants are increasingly confident of landing one of the players of Euro 2024, and his signing could really help Barca claw themselves back towards the top table of Spanish and European football.

Barca closing in on Chelsea target Williams

There’s still the small matter of Financial Fair Play for Barca to get around, though that would appear to be a formality if the narrative coming out of Catalonia is that the club are getting close.

They surely wouldn’t advance the same unless they felt that there was a genuine chance that the player had given the ‘thumbs up’ to any deal.

What that does do of course is show Boehly that just because he has the funds to throw around, it doesn’t necessarily mean that players who are best-in-class in their position are going to want to move to Stamford Bridge.

As storied an English outfit as they are, there’s been a real churn of players over the past couple of seasons and that type of modus operandi might not suit players looking for some career stability.

Chelsea have announced the squad that will travel on their pre-season tour to the United States and there were some noticeable absences with Trevoh Chalobah and Alfie Gilchrist left off the list by Enzo Maresca.

Both players featured for the Blues last season as Mauricio Pochettino trusted the two defensive stars at points throughout the campaign.

Gilchrist featured in 11 Premier League matches after the 20-year-old was handed his senior debut by the Argentine coach when he came on as a substitute against Crystal Palace back in December. The 2023/24 season was an important one for the young defender and he is now expected to go on loan to gain further experience.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Englishman has received two loan proposals for the upcoming season from Preston and Sheffield United. The youngster will pick his favourite destination over the coming days and it is the reason he has not been taken on Chelsea’s pre-season tour.

Chalobah’s story is a lot different as his Chelsea exit has been written on the walls at Stamford Bridge for some time.

Trevoh Chalobah’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end

Chalobah has been told that he will be staying in London while the rest of the Chelsea squad travels to the United States as the Premier League club feel that they already have enough defensive options with Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo, states Fabrizio Romano.

The West London outfit will also take 18-year-old Josh Acheapong with them to America as Maresca wants to use this time to evaluate the young defender.

This latest decision from Chelsea regarding Chalobah signifies that the centre-back will leave the Blues this summer as he is fit again compared to the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old also played 17 times for the Premier League club last season and finished the campaign as a starter, which would have given interested clubs a good look at the English defender before this summer’s transfer window opened.

Chelsea have approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen as Enzo Maresca looks to address the Blues goalkeeper issues before the 2024/25 campaign gets underway next month.

The West London club signed two shot-stoppers last summer in the form of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, but both have not been deemed satisfactory by the new Chelsea coach.

The signing of the Spaniard was an unusual one given he was the number two at Brighton and following an injury, Petrovic would step up and play the entire second half of the season. The Serbian did well in the Blues’ net, but Maresca would like an upgrade in the position at Stamford Bridge.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen to get a deal done with talks having started with the player. The Swedish shot-stopper is believed to be keen on the move but nothing is close as of now.

The transfer journalist states that Mads Hermansen is also on the London club’s list as Maresca worked with the 24-year-old at Leicester City last season.

Both goalkeepers are very young for the position as the Premier League club’s board continues to try and build a young squad at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen
Chelsea have approached Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen

Who is Chelsea target Filip Jorgensen?

Jorgenson is a 22-year-old talent who became the starting goalkeeper for Villarreal last season having come through the La Liga club’s youth academy and making his debut during the campaign before.

The Swedish shot-stopper featured in 37 games for the yellow submarine, keeping just six clean sheets in what was a tricky campaign for the club.

Jorgenson has caught the attention of a lot of clubs as he is a very modern goalkeeper with the 22-year-old being exceptional with his feet. This will be one of the biggest attractions for Chelsea, but it is still a big risk handing the number one jersey of a Premier League club as big as the Blues to someone so young.

West Ham United have reportedly submitted a bid for the potential transfer of Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, even if a deal looks difficult and expensive for the Hammers.

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham have had some talks over signing Summerville, while they’ve also tabled an official proposal to Leeds, though this is not currently considered a deal close to completion.

It remains to be seen if West Ham will be able to afford the talented young Dutchman, who has also been monitored by big names like Chelsea and Liverpool in recent times, as Romano previously told CaughtOffside via his exclusive Daily Briefing column.

Summerville might be more realistic for clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool, but it would seem they’re yet to step up their interest and make actual concrete efforts to sign the 22-year-old.

If West Ham could win the race for Summerville then it truly would be an impressive statement by the east Londoners, but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up.

Roma have also had Summerville on their list this summer, as Romano notes elsewhere in his X post above, so perhaps they’ll emerge as a concrete option again later in the window.

Summerville transfer: Is he good enough for Chelsea or Liverpool?

Given that West Ham’s efforts seem likely to be in vain, could we see bigger clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool come back in for Summerville after previously scouting him?

Crysencio Summerville to West Ham, Liverpool, or Chelsea?

Arne Slot could surely do with making some changes in attack this summer after inheriting a Liverpool squad that ended last season poorly, and which has the ageing Mohamed Salah and injury-prone Diogo Jota up front at the moment.

Chelsea, meanwhile, could surely find that Summerville is an upgrade on flops like Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk, even if he’d represent a bit of a gamble due to his lack of top level experience.
