An overview of Sunday’s Premier League action, with three matches taking place across the day.
Chelsea 1-0 Crystal Palace
Graham Potter oversaw a crucial win in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful this afternoon. The only goal of the game was scored by Kai Havertz in the 64th minute and everyone involved in the club will be hoping the match can reignite a run of positive form, with Liverpool being next up for Chelsea.
New signing Mykhaylo Mudryk was paraded around the stadium at half time after Chelsea’s board hijacked Arsenal’s pursuit of the 22-year-old.
The Blues remain 10th in the table whilst Palace sit 12th.
Newcastle United 1-0 Fulham
Newcastle’s emphatic season continues with yet another win added to the tally in front of a bouncing St James’ Park. Fulham were awarded a second-half penalty that was converted by Aleksandar Mitrovic, however, it was chalked off due to the ball touching both of the striker’s feet when he slipped whilst striking it.
Club record signing Alexander Isak headed home in the 89th minute to secure all three points in just his fourth appearance for the club.
The Magpies are now on a 14-game unbeaten run in the top flight – the longest of any club across Europe’s top-five leagues. They leapfrogged Manchester United to move back to third place through goal difference. Fulham remain sixth.
Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Arsenal
Arsenal cruised their way to a 2-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium without any significant response from their opponents. Mikel Arteta would have known three points were crucial in the title race to capitalise on Manchester City’s 2-1 loss yesterday in the Manchester derby.
The Gunners now sit atop the league by an eight-point margin to second-placed City. Spurs remain fifth and are five points behind Manchester United, who have played one less match than the London side.
