Manchester United are preparing an offer worth £17m for Colombia international Richard Rios according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

United are looking to strengthen their squad after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, and they will be hoping for a vast improvement in the new campaign.

After a slow start to the summer there’s been a flurry of activity at Old Trafford with a number of deals completed, and several more in the pipeline.

United set to bid for Richard Rios

The Red Devils have already completed the signings of striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and teenage centre back Leny Yoro from Lille, whilst they are believed to be advancing on deals for Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt.

Midfield is an area United are looking to strengthen, and they are reportedly open to moving Casemiro on this summer, whilst the club won’t be taking up their €20m buy option for Sofyan Amrabat following his loan from Fiorentina last season.

Scott McTominay has been linked with the likes of Fulham, Tottenham, and Galatasaray and if the Scotland international were to leave it’s likely United would require more reinforcements than just Ugarte.

However, Galetti has reported they hare preparing a £17m move for Colombia international Rios, who plays for Brazilian club Palmeiras.

He took to X.com and said:

“#ManUTD recently approached Richard #Rios and are now preparing a £17m offer for #Palmeiras.

“#ACMilan are also interested in the midfielder, among the names on their list. At the moment, the  club is oriented not to let him go this summer @valentinfurlan_.

Rios was part of the Colombia squad which narrowly lost the Copa America final to Argentina this summer.

The 24-year-old stood out for Colombia and his performances will have put a number of top clubs on alert.

The Colombian joined Palmeiras in March 2023 and has made 82 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

Rios is predominately a central midfielder, but can also play in the number six position, and whether he joins United or not it appears he could be set for a move to Europe this summer.

Former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is set to complete his move to Serie A new boys Como according to Fabrizio Romano.

Varane has been without a club since leaving Old Trafford after his contract expired and his final game for the Red Devils was the FA Cup final win against Manchester City at Wembley.

The World Cup winner had been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League and the MLS, but it appears that Serie A will be his next home.

Varane set to join Como

The 31-year-old spent three years at United having joined from Spanish giants Real Madrid back in 2021, and won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his time in Manchester.

Varane has taken his time before deciding the next chapter in his career, but it now seems a decision has been made and he’s set to join a new club.

Romano has reported that the former Real Madrid man is set to join Serie A side Como, who are manager by former Chelsea and Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas.

He took to X.com and said:

“Raphael Varane to Como, here we go! Documents ready and set to be signed.

“Former Real Madrid and Man United CB will play in Serie A under Cesc Fabregas as manager.

“Understand Varane will sign two year deal until June 2026 + option until 2027. Exclusive story, confirmed.”

It’s quite the coup for Como to land a player of Varane’s quality and calibre, and he becomes the latest former Premier League star to join the club, with former Liverpool duo Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno also joining the Serie A outfit this summer.

There’s no doubt that Fabregas will have played a huge part in getting this deal over the line and Varane will bring much needed experience and winning mentality, which will be vital to Como’s chances of staying up next season.

Varane has had a decorated career to date winning multiple Champions Leagues with Real Madrid and the World Cup with France, but it’s unlikely the latest chapter in his career will see him add to his trophy haul.

Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso has shut down rumours the Brazilian could leave Old Trafford on loan this summer.

The 24-year-old arrived at Manchester United in a big money move from Ajax said to be worth around £85.5m in 2022.

The Brazil international has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and lost his place in the side towards the end of last season.

Antony’s agent dismisses talk of him leaving United

Antony made a great start to life at Old Trafford as he scored three times in his opening three Premier League games, but he’s failed to push on from that positive start.

He made 38 appearances in all competitions last season and could only manage three goals and two assists, with just one of those goals coming in the Premier League.

It’s not the sort of return United would expect from a player they made a huge investment in, and recent reports have linked Antony with a loan move away from Old Trafford.

However, his agent has come out and shutdown those reports saying Antony wants to stay at United and is only focused on the club.

“I see reports about potential exit on loan, Antony’s plan is clear: Manchester United,” Pedroso told Fabrizio Romano.

“He wants to stay, he’s only focused on Man United. We already spoke about that with the club.”

The winger reported back to pre-season training on July 8th, but hasn’t featured in either of United’s pre-season friendlies against Rosenborg or Rangers.

Antony has scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 82 appearances for the club to date, and will face competition for minutes from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.

Despite a difficult two seasons in Manchester, Ten Hag still believes the Brazilian has what it takes to be a success at Old Trafford.

“I am still convinced that Antony has the potential to play at this club,” he told AD earlier this week.

“He certainly showed that potential in the first month. He scored three times in his first three games. After that it became more difficult, last season was not good.”

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is attracting interest from the likes of Fulham and Galatasaray, but Erik ten Hag insists United want to keep hold of him.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their squad having finished a disappointing eighth last season and bottom of their Champions League group.

After a slow start to the window there’s been a flurry of activity at Old Trafford with a number of deals being completed, and several more near the finish line.

Ten Hag insists United want to keep McTominay

United have signed striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, whilst teenage centre back Leny Yoro has also arrived from Lille, with the club also believed to working on deals for Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt.

Midfield is an area United are looking to strengthen and they are believed to be trying to offload Casemiro, whilst the club won’t be taking up their €20m buy option on Sofyan Amrabat following his loan spell from Fiorentina last season.

United have also been linked with a move for France international Adrien Rabiot who is now a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired.

Ten Hag wants McTominay to remain at Old Trafford this summer.

Question marks have also surrounded the future of Scotland international McTominay who was the subject of interest from West Ham last summer.

The 27-year-old is once again attracting interest this summer with the likes of Tottenham, Fulham and Turkish giants Galatasaray all said to be interested.

However, Ten Hag has come out and insisted United want to keep the midfielder and that he’s a very important part of the squad.

“We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs,” Ten Hag said.

“When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest. But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad.

“What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”

McTominay popped up with a number of late and important goals last season for United as he scored ten goals in 43 appearances in all competitions, but he only has one year remaining on his current deal although United have a club option for a further year.

Inside Spain is a weekly instalment brought to you by Football España, providing an insight into all of the major stories coming out of the rich and intense climes of La Liga and beyond.

It’s been a big week at Real Madrid, which is saying something, given it should have been all about Spain’s Euro 2024 celebrations. Celebrations that weren’t all smooth.

Manchester City’s Rodri Hernandez has caused a minor diplomatic incident after his ‘Gibraltar is Spanish chant’, with Chief Minister Fabian Picardo comparing it to the sort of stunt Dictator Francisco Franco would pull. Mikel Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino were branded ‘traitors’ by someone in their hometowns with particularly strong Basque feeling, and Dani Carvajal went viral for giving Spanish President Pedro Sanchez the cold shoulder. Perhaps the most wild was seeing Alvaro Morata launch a cup at a fan from their open-top bus due to a sign they were holding.

Apartt from that, it was mostly wholesome, with Marc Cucurella, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams providing the good vibes. It has not calmed speculation around Williams though. This week Barcelona met with his agent to finalise personal terms, but Athletic Club coach Ernesto Valverde declared he was expecting him back in training on the 12th of August. Arsenal and Chelsea probably won’t drop out of the race until they know Barcelona have the money to do a deal. Barcelona also launched their new kit with a brilliant announcement video.

All that before even getting to Kylian Mbappe’s presentation. The Frenchman packed out the Santiago Bernabeu, with a rumoured 80,000 there to see him ‘accomplish his childhood dream’. A big Real Madrid love-in, one-year extensions for Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modric almost faded into the background.

It did leave Real Madrid stunned when Leny Yoro called them to say that he would be joining Manchester United. The local press say that Lille threatened to send him to the stands if Yoro did not accept Manchester United’s offer, although with phrases like ‘Real Madrid overestimated his determination to play for them’, it read a little like saving face.

All the same, Real Madrid do not have a plan B. They let Rafa Marin join Napoli earlier this month, they were that certain of getting Yoro over the line, but now face either a scrambled effort for another defender, or using Aurelien Tchouameni there as an emergency option.

Finally, the 11 Spanish venues were confirmed for the 2030 World Cup, with no Mestalla in Valencia, or Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan or Benito Villamarin in Seville. Sevilla will have La Cartuja at least, but reportedly politics got in the way of Spain’s third-most populous city missing out entirely…

Manchester United could look to sign Paris Saint Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte on an initial loan deal according to reports.

Having sorted out Erik ten Hag’s future United have kicked into gear in the transfer market as they look to strengthen a squad which finished a lowly eighth last season.

Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee has joined from Bologna, whilst the Red Devils are also very close to completing a deal for teenage centre back Leny Yoro, with Matthijs de Ligt believed to also be nearing a move to Old Trafford.

United could look to sign Ugarte on loan

United are looking to try and offload Casemiro this summer, whilst Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal is unlikely to be made permanent meaning they are in the market for midfield reinforcements.

Ugarte has been identified as a target and the Uruguayan hasn’t yet returned to Paris after his exploits in the Copa America.

The 23-year-old was close to joining Chelsea last summer before opting to head to the French capital where he had a mixed season making 37 appearances in all competitions.

Manuel Ugarte in action for Paris Saint Germain.
Ugarte could be leaving PSG after just one season at the club.

GIVEMESPORT have reported that United are “refusing” to rule out the possibility of a loan deal for next season with an option or obligation to buy.

The midfielder is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford, but United might have to bide their time if PSG are only prepared to sanction a permanent departure.

A loan move would make sense financially as it would be cheaper for United, but GIVEMESPORT add they don’t want to spend more than £45m on the Uruguay international as they look for a long term partner for teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo.

United could need more than one midfielder if Scott McTominay also leaves the club, and Fulham are reported to have had a £30m offer rejected for the Scotland international.

Manchester United are keeping an eye on Bayer Leverkusen centre back Jonathan Tah according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

United are known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements following Raphael Varane’s departure and have identified a number of possible targets.

It’s set to be a busy summer on the red half of Manchester as United look to strengthen a squad which finished a disappointing eighth last season.

United monitoring Tah

The Red Devils have seen two bids rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite, whilst an offer has been accepted for Lille’s Leny Yoro but the teenager would prefer a move to Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt is another target and it looks like the Dutchman could make the move to Old Trafford and link up with Erik ten Hag again.

However, Sky Sports Reporter Sheth has said that United are keeping an eye on German international Tah, who has been strongly linked with a move to Bayern.

Jonathan Tah in action for Bayer Leverkusen.
Tah was part of the Leverkusen side who lost one game in all competitions last season.

“Another name that has emerged today, and it’s just an enquiry if you like, about the situation of the particular defender, is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah,” he told Sky Sports News.

“He has been strongly linked with Bayern Munich, talks have advanced between those two clubs, but I’m told as it stands at the moment, nothing has been finalised with Bayern Munich. So Manchester United are just keeping an eye on the situation.”

Tah was part of the Leverkusen side that lost just one game in all competitions last season under Xabi Alonso, as they completed an unbeaten domestic double.

Tah has been at Leverkusen since 2015 and has made 353 appearances for the club, but the German could be looking for a new challenge.

Given the amount of defenders United have been linked with it’s clear they are keeping their options open and could be looking to bring in more than one centre back.

Manchester United have scouted Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez as they look to sign a new left back this summer according to Fabrizio Romano.

United have been busy in the window and having completed the signing of Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, they are still working on moves for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Paris Saint Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.

Left back has been a problem position for the Red Devils given the injury issues suffered by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, and United ended up bringing in Sergio Reguilon on loan for the first half of last season, which didn’t really work.

United scouting Girona’s Gutierrez

United have been linked with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, whilst Ben Chilwell’s name is reportedly amongst a list of options.

Shaw hadn’t played since February before appearing for England at the Euros and United will be hoping he can put his injury issues behind him next season.

Romano has reported that the Red Devils have been scouting Gutierrez, who joined Girona from Real Madrid in 2022, but they haven’t advanced their interest yet.

Miguel Gutierrez in action for Girona.
Gutierrez is attracting interest from Manchester United.

“Gutierrez is a player they’ve been scouting,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“Remember that on Gutierrez, Real Madrid have a sort of buy-back clause so they can still keep control of the player in case they want to.

“So there is also that factor to consider when it’s about Miguel Gutierrez, but I think Manchester United will decide later in the window who is the left-back they want to bring in.

“For sure, that position is something that they want to cover this summer.”

The left back impressed for Girona as they qualified for the Champions League last season, making 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and providing nine assists.

A long term replacement for Shaw is needed and if United can get the right player in this summer, it will be a big plus in what has been a problem area for them.

Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has been handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence for abandoning his family according to Le Parisien.

Le Parisien report that Evra’s sentence is suspended for two years, but he’s been ordered to pay his wife €4,000 for moral damages and €2,000 for legal costs.

The report adds that the former France international is said to owe €969,000 after abandoning his wife and their two children for more than two years.

Evra handed suspended sentence

Nathalie Dubois, the lawyer for the civil party said following the decision that she hoped Evra now realised he wasn’t above the law.

“I hope that, thanks to this decision, Patrice Evra will finally understand that he is not above the law and that you cannot abandon your wife and children overnight,” she told Le Parisien.

“Even more so when they met when they were 15 and she followed him all over the world to support his football career.”

Patrice Evra with the Premier League trophy at Manchester United.
Evra had an incredibly decorated playing career.

Evra’s lawyer Jerome Boursican has said that the former Premier League winner “disputes some of the facts,” and would be appealing the decision.

“Mr Patrice Evra filed an appeal, knowing that he provided his wife with an apartment, a house with a swimming pool in the south of France and that he lent her almost two million euros for her daily life. A sum that she refuses to return, which is the reason for this trial,” Boursican said.

This isn’t the first time Evra has got himself in trouble with the authorities, back in February 2023 he was fined €1,000 for making a homophobic insult and had to pay €1,500 in damages to two civil party associations, as well as €1,00 in Lawyers’ fees to both parties.

Evra had an incredibly decorated career playing for the likes of United and Italian giants Juventus and earning 81 caps for France.

The 43-year-old spent the bulk of his career at Old Trafford where he won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, three League Cups and the Club World Cup.

Evra also had success in Italy winning Serie A on three occasions and the Italian cup twice, but his  France career ultimately culminated in not winning anything despite appearing in multiple World Cups and European Championships.

Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United training after face to face talks with Erik ten Hag, with the pair both agreeing to move on following their disagreement last season.

United signed Sancho from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021, but he hasn’t played for the club since last August.

The winger was exiled from the first team after refusing to apologise for taking to social media to claim he was being made a scape goat following criticism from Ten Hag over his training.

Sancho back in United training

The 24-year-old returned to Dortmund on loan in January and had a positive spell which culminated in the Champions League final at Wembley, but unfortunately for Sancho the Bundesliga outfit lost 2-0 to Real Madrid.

United were believed to have made Sancho available for £40m and he had reportedly been attracting interest from the likes of Juventus and Dortmund who were keen to make his loan permanent.

However, in a turn of events Sancho and Ten Hag appear to have resolved their issues with United confirming that the Englishman had returned to pre-season training.

Sancho has returned to training with Manchester United.

“Jadon Sancho returned for testing on Wednesday following his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season,” they said on their website.

“The 24-year-old forward then trained with the group on Thursday.”

It’s been reported that Sancho won’t be part of the squad which heads to Norway to play Rosenberg on Monday due to returning to training later than other members of the squad, but he will be available for the rest of the pre-season games.

It’s still possible that Sancho leaves Old Trafford this summer but his reintegration into training suggests there could be a way back for him at the club if he’s happy to stay.

Sancho has two years remaining on his contract and has made 82 appearances for the Red Devils to date, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists.
