Kicking off the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday urged citizens to change their display pictures on social media to the Tricolour. Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the campaign in Ahmedabad, while members of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) took out rallies in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad, Shah said, “We can’t die for the country, since it has become independent, but no one can stop us from living for the country. During the ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Narendra Modiji worked to instil a feeling of patriotism across India.”

In Delhi, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi flagged off the Tiranga rally and said, “The 76th Independence Day is around the corner. Today’s event is a run-up to August 15. People are full of energy and enthusiastic, and this will set the foundation for the country’s future. Inspired by the Prime Minister, we are all dedicated towards the country’s development and reform.”

She added, “As the PM has said that ‘Amrit Kaal’ is starting, and during this period, we have to take the nation to the heights of success. This will only happen when we all will work together in this direction with full of energy.”

In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj K Sinha flagged off the Tiranga rally in Srinagar amid tight security arrangements. The march went on till the banks of the Dal Lake.

J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh said, “We are feeling proud that we were part of the Tiranga Rally today. This year’s rally was bigger than last year’s… We want to work together for the peace of the nation.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti shared a picture of L-G Sinha, alongside a photo of India’s first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, dated 1949. She wrote: “Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru with the tiranga standing tall amongst a sea of enthusiastic Kashmiris at Lal chowk Srinagar circa 1949. Meanwhile, dress rehearsals were in full swing for the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort.

In the 103rd episode of his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had highlighted the success of last year’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’. “Similarly, this time too we have to hoist the Tricolour at every house, and continue this tradition,” he said.
