Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is a big admirer of Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, but it’s unclear if the Blues will make a move according to journalist Tom Collomosse.

It’s been a busy summer at Stamford Bridge with six new faces coming through the door already as the club look to strengthen the squad in an attempt to get back into the Champions League next season.

The Blues head off to America on Monday for their pre-season tour, and are reportedly in the market for a goalkeeper, winger and striker, although it’s unclear how many more signings they will make.

Maresca admires Mads Hermansen

It was reported last week that Chelsea were going to enter the market for a new goalkeeper, with good distribution an essential factor.

The Blues signed Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic last summer, but Maresca clearly feels it’s an area that needs improving.

Sanchez started the season as number one, but after a solid start he made a number of errors and lost his place to Petrovic last December when he got injured and didn’t win it back.

Petrovic impressed in the Chelsea goal, but his style isn’t suited to what Maresca is said to want from his goalkeepers, and the west London club are believed to have offered him to Serie A side Genoa.

However, Mail Sport’s Collomosse has reported Maresca is a big admirer of Hermansen, who is said to be valued at around £45m.

Maresca knows the Dane well having signed him for Leicester last summer, and he would certainly tick the boxes for what Chelsea are looking for in a new keeper.

The 24-year-old made 44 appearances in the Championship and kept 13 clean sheets as the Foxes won the title last season.

If Hermansen does make the move to Stamford Bridge he would be following in the footsteps of Maresca and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Chelsea have also been recently linked with James Trafford, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Filip Jorgensen, who is believed to have a release clause of £35m.

Leicester are in talks with Paraguayan winger Ramon Sosa according to reports as the club look to make their first summer signing.

It’s been a difficult close season for the Foxes having lost manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, with star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall now also closing in on a £30m move to Stamford Bridge.

Cooper faces a tough task keeping Leicester up next season and will need to see the squad strengthened in order to give him the best chance of doing that.

Leicester eye move for Sosa

Losing Dewsbury-Hall will be a huge blow to the Foxes given the 25-year-old registered 26 goal contributions last season as Leicester won the Championship title, but the club needed to raise money in order to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

Leicester are in talks with Chelsea to sign talented youngster Michael Golding as part of the deal, but are also looking at other targets.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Leicester could be turning their attention to the South American market and are in talks to sign right winger Sosa.

Ramón Sosa - Player profile 2024 | Transfermarkt
Leicester are looking to bring Sosa to the Premier League this summer.

“Leicester City are in talks to sign Paraguayan right winger Ramon Sosa at Argentinian side Talleres,” he told his Patreon.

“The Foxes have been chasing the quick and powerful wide man for weeks and met his agents recently to discuss a deal for about £15 million.

“Sosa was an unused sub in the first game in Copa America but is being pushed by all parties to move to the Premier League.

“Sosa’s club have had contact from a couple of top flight English teams and will sell their star if the price is right.”

The 24-year-old has 13 caps for Paraguay and is currently part of their squad for the Copa America, and has scored 17 goals provided 13 assists in 56 games for his club.

The addition of Sosa would add good competition for Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fattawu who were first choice under Maresca last season.

Former Leicester City player Alan Smith believes Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard aren’t good enough to play in the Premier League.

The Foxes won promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking as Enzo Maresca guided them to the Championship title.

However, things haven’t gone to plan following the end of the season with Maresca joining Chelsea, and star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Faes and Vestergaard not good enough for the Premier League

New manager Steve Cooper has got a tough task on his hands as he sets about strengthening the squad to ensure the Foxes remain in the division next season.

Leicester will likely be looking for a new striker, with Kelechi Iheanacho set to depart when his contract expires at the end of this month, whilst Jamie Vardy isn’t getting any younger and Patson Daka hasn’t lived up to expectations.

However, Smith feels the Foxes could also do with strengthening in the heart of their defence and singled two players out who he doesn’t feel are good enough to play in the Premier League.

Faes and Vestergaard celebrate promotion.
Smith feels Faes and Vestergaard aren’t good enough for the Premier League.

“Leicester need to add a few players to the squad that are of Premier League quality,” he told Prime Casino.

“At the back, when you look at Vestergaard and Wout Faes, you don’t see that as a double act that’s going to be good enough in the Premier League.”

Smith added that Leicester need to be clever in the transfer market and that Jamie Vardy could do a job as an impact substitute.

“Up top, Jamie Vardy can’t go on forever, he could still do a job as a sub and impact substitute,” Smith continued.

“Leicester must be really canny in the transfer market like they were a few years back, they’ll need to produce some rabbits out of a hat, like they did when they signed N’Golo Kante and Mahrez.

“Those players were superb in the Premier League and both of them came from nowhere really.

“It’s not easy to do that, to find talent like that, Leicester need to strengthen, without question. I hope they can manage it.”

Leicester’s first game back in the Premier League is at home to Tottenham on August 18th.

Everton are one of several clubs to have made an offer for Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi according to reports.

Ndid is out of contract at Leicester at the end of the month and the Foxes are keen to extend his stay following their promotion back to the Premier League.

Everton are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the news after finishing 15th last season after a ten point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

Everton make offer for Ndidi

Given the financial uncertainties surrounding the club, the Toffees will no doubt be looking for smart business and opportunities in the market.

Journalist Santi Aouna has reported Everton, as well as French clubs Marseille and Lyon have made an offer for Ndidi.

He took to X.com and said:

“OM made an offer to Wilfred Ndidi, free next June.

“Lyon and Everton also made an offer to the Nigerian midfielder, Monaco is also there.

“Leicester wants to extend it, Seville is interested but the file should not go to the end.”

Despite it being obvious Everton’s transfer budget won’t be huge that hasn’t stopped the club from pressing ahead and getting some deals done.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Everton have agreed a fee of £9m with Aston Villa for Tim Iroegbunam, with the 20-year-old set to undergo his medical, whilst Jack Harrison is reportedly close to joining the club on loan for another season.

A move for Ndidi would be smart business given he wouldn’t cost anything, has a wealth of Premier League experience and would help bolster Everton’s options in the middle of the park.

The Toffees will be desperate to hold onto star midfielder Amadou Onana who is attracting interest from a number of big clubs, but they may be forced to cash in to help ease their financial difficulties.

It remains to be seen what decision Ndidi makes, but if Everton can convince the Nigerian it would be quite a coup for them.

Leicester City are interested in signing Tottenham defender Joe Rodon this summer according to reports.

The Foxes won promotion back to the Premier League after winning the Championship title last season, but have lost manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

The club are reportedly close to finalising the appointment of Graham Potter as their new manager, and they can now step up preparations for the new season.

Leicester eye move for Rodon

Leicester’s transfer restrictions have been ended by the Premier League and they can now set about strengthening the squad as they look to ensure they stay in the top flight next season.

Foxes of Leicester have reported that the club are targeting a move for Rodon, who has become an outcast at Tottenham.

Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton are also interested in the Wales international who has just one year left on his contract, and is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans in north London.

Rodon was viewed as one of the best defenders in the Championship last season.

The Foxes current have Wout Faes, Jannik Vestergaard, Conor Coady and Harry Souttar among their centre back options, but it’s expected Coady will leave the club, which would free up a place in the squad for the potential signing of Rodon.

Rodon joined Spurs from Championship side Swansea in 2020 and has had loan spells at Stade Rennes in France and Leeds, where he made 50 appearances last season, and was part of the side that finished third and lost in the play-off final.

The 26-year-old has 45 caps for Wales and has made just 24 appearances for Spurs in four seasons.

Leicester have already extended Jamie Vardy’s contract by a further year, and his experience and goal scoring ability could be absolutely crucial to ensuring the Foxes don’t go straight back down to the Championship.

Leicester City are close to appointing Graham Potter as their new manager following the departure of Enzo Maresca according to reports.

Maresca led the Foxes to the Championship title only to leave the club and replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

Leicester wouldn’t have been expecting Maresca’s departure, and the club have been taking their time to appoint a new manager, but finally seem close to an appointment.

Leicester close in on Potter appointment

The Guardian report that Leicester are close to reaching an agreement for the 49-year-old who has been out of work since April 2023 after being sacked by Chelsea.

The report adds Potter has held positive talks with the former Premier League champions and is likely to take the job.

Potter is believed to have turned down several jobs during his time out of the game and came close to becoming manager of Dutch giants Ajax.

Potter is close to taking over at Leicester.

Leicester have also considered the likes of Steve Cooper, and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan, but they seem set on the former Brighton boss.

The Guardian add that Potter is looking for a similar working environment to what he had at Brighton, and he’s understood to feel well supported by the hierarchy at Leicester.

Potter did a brilliant job at Brighton where he was viewed as one of the brightest managers in English football after guiding the Seagulls to a ninth place finish, and he was also linked with the England job.

He was then chosen by Chelsea as the man to replace Thomas Tuchel, but struggled to adapt to life in west London and was sacked seven months into a five year contract.

Potter will no doubt have done a lot of reflecting during his time out of the game, and will hope to put into practice what he learnt from his time at Chelsea.

Former Premier League winner with Leicester City Danny Simpson has backed Graham Potter to become the club’s next manager.

The Foxes won the Championship title under Enzo Maresca last season, but the Italian left to become Chelsea’s next boss following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.

Leicester are now working on appointing a new manager ahead of their return to the Premier League, with former Blues boss Potter and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan the leading candidates.

Simpson backs Potter to become next Leicester manager

Potter is believed to be the favourite for the job, and it’s reportedly his if he wishes to take it as he looks to return to the game following his sacking by Chelsea.

The former Brighton boss has kept a low profile since his dismissal from Chelsea in April 2023 and was linked with a return to the Seagulls, and was also close to taking over at Dutch giants Ajax.

Simpson has backed Graham Potter to become Leicester’s new manager.

Simpson, who played a key role for Leicester as they famously lifted the Premier League title in the 2015/2016 season feels now is the right time for Potter to get back into management, and believes the Foxes would be the ideal place for him to do that.

“I think Graham Potter would be good, he’s been quiet for a while now and, from what I understand, he was someone who the club spoke to about the job a while ago,” Simpson told Sports Boom.

“It didn’t happen then, but maybe now would be a good time.

“There’s still a few issues to sort out with some senior players, but whatever happens it needs to be done quick.

“The club still have a core of players who know how to play in the Premier League, but they need to get a new manager in because, before you know it, it’s pre-season again and decisions need to be made.”

Leicester will find out who they face on the opening day of the Premier League season when the fixtures get released at 9am on Tuesday morning.

Enzo Maresca is eyeing a reunion with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and has told Chelsea he wants to sign the midfielder according to reports.

Maresca was announced as Chelsea’s new manager on Monday afternoon following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino last month, and has signed a five year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian who guided Leicester to the Championship title last season will be under huge pressure to win silverware and get Chelsea back into the Champions League next season.

Maresca wants Dewsbury-Hall reunion

Chelsea are set to be busy again this summer as they look to strengthen their squad following a sixth place finish in the last campaign.

The Blues are believed to be in the market for a goalkeeper, left back, centre back and striker and have already agreed their first deal of the summer with Tosin Adarabioyo set to arrive on a free transfer from Fulham.

Chelsea could be in the market for a midfielder if Conor Gallagher leaves the club, and Aston Villa have opened talks with the Blues over a possible move, whilst Tottenham are believed to readying an offer for the 24-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract.

Dewsbury-Hall starred for Leicester as they won the Championship title last season.

If the England international does leave then it’s likely Chelsea will seek a replacement and Sun Sport have reported Maresca is eyeing a reunion with Dewsbury-Hall.

The report adds the Leicester star is top of Maresca’s list to replace Gallagher, with the Foxes  unlikely to let the 25-year-old leave for less than £40m.

Dewsbury-Hall was named as Leicester’s Player of the Season and was also named in the Championship Team of the Season after scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists.

The midfielder was subject to interest from Brighton in January but ended up staying at the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea have also been linked with moves for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise who they have a strong interest in and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko who rivals Arsenal are also after.

Leicester City midfielder Dennis Praet has spoken of his desire to return to Serie A this summer after five years with the Foxes.

Praet who joined Leicester from Italian side Sampdoria in 2019, is expected to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old year temporarily returned to Italy and spent the 2021-2022 season on loan at Torino , but that deal wasn’t made permanent and he returned to Leicester.

Praet to return to Serie A this summer?

Enzo Maresca’s side won the Championship and returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their relegation last season.

The Belgian made 17 appearances in the title winning campaign and 20 in all competitions, scoring just once, and has certainly played his last game for the club.

Praet was asked about his plans for the future and if he regretted leaving Italy for England five years ago.

Praet has spoken of his desire to return to Serie A.

“No, I really wanted to go to the Premier League, and I made the choice quickly”, he told Nieuwsblad.

“I also had some good moments, the painful part is that I just wanted to play more, much more.

“Now I’m at the end of my contract and I feel ready for something new.

“I’m 29 years old and physically I’m at the peak of my career.

“I want to be important again somewhere else, I want to find the fun in the game again.”

The Leicester City man was asked if he had a preference of where he wanted to go, and revealed Italy would always be his first choice.

“Yes, Italy will always be ahead, I played three years at Sampdoria and one at Torino, my best years abroad.

“The tactics in Italy attract me a lot, this year I had an Italian coach like Maresca, he impressed me.

“The English players say they have never learned so much and I still have my Italian phone number, I have never changed it, I would like to return to Italy, where I have always felt comfortable.”

In total Praet made 107 appearances for Leicester scoring five goals and won the FA Cup during his time in England.

With two of this last summer’s sales included in the accounts for next year, Leicester City could see an increase in their earnings.

Despite generating a profit of £74.8 million from player sales, City revealed that they lost £89.7 million in 2022–2023.

The two summer departures of James Maddison to Tottenham and Wesley Fofana to Chelsea resulted in the two largest payments.

Leicester City have been punished by the Premier League

The Premier League has charged Leicester City of breaking the Profit and Sustainability rules.

According to reports, Leicester will have to sell players in the summer even if they get promoted to the Premier League in order to stay in compliance with regulations for the final stretch of the current campaign.

But, they will see two revenue increases in their accounts for the next year, according to Leicestershire Live.

Leicester City Championship
Leicester City receive unexpected boost.

The 2023–2024 accounting period will feature Timothy Castagne’s and Harvey Barnes’ sales.

This will help the former Premier League champions to ease the difficulty in balancing their books and get in line with the financial rules.

Barnes, an academy graduate who will be recorded as pure profit in the books, signed a contract with Newcastle United for an estimated £38 million. As for Castagne, Fulham paid £15 million sign him.

Leicester City have lost players due to their decline

Ayoze Perez, Jonny Evans, and Youri Tielemans are among the players that departed the team on a free transfer.

While some players’ contracts included relegation clauses, this implies that the cost of wages during the accounting period will decrease.

Leicester, one of the greatest sporting surprises of the 2015–16 season, went from champions to relegation in seven seasons due to a continuous slide that included significant losses in recent years.
