Leicester City have had a difficult start to life in the Premier League.

After winning promotion to the top flight of England, they lost two key figures to Premier League giants Chelsea.

Manager Enzo Maresca left the club to join the Blues as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement while midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall joined his manager at Stamford Bridge to start a new challenge in his career.

The Foxes have signed Caleb Okoli and Bobby De Cordova-Reid in exciting moves ahead of the new season.

However, they could now sign a player from a Champions League club to add more quality to their squad.

Gianluigi Longari of Football Italia reports that talks about signing Alexis Saelemaekers from AC Milan this summer have now begun at Leicester City.

Leicester City need creativity in the midfield

After the departure of Dewsbury-Hall to join Chelsea, the newly-promoted Premier League club need a creative midfield player who can assist the attackers in scoring goals.

While it is highly unlikely that the AC Milan player will match the output that Dewsbury-Hall had last season, he is still good enough to impress at the club and become a part of Steve Cooper’s team.

Leicester City are making moves in the market to avoid relegation and they are expected to bring more players to the club to retain their position as a Premier League team.

Tuesday night’s Champions League semi-final second leg is a must-win for both sides, with Rafa Leao strengthening a Milan side that have it all to do against Internazionale.

In last week’s first-leg, a fast start from the Neroazzurri saw them two goals to the good to silence the mostly AC Milan populated San Siro.

With Inter holding the advantage both in goals terms and now effectively being the ‘home’ side in the same stadium, it’s going to take a monumental effort from the Rossoneri to come back.

However, they really did miss Leao’s pace and creativity, and that’s something that Inter need to guard against, particularly in the opening exchanges.

Simone Inzhagi’s side could live to regret not scoring a third goal last week given how on top they were during the opening 45 minutes, and they can’t afford to sit back and invite Milan on to them.

An early goal from the Neroazzurri could kill the tie as a contest, and if the likes of Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez can get in amongst it again as they did in the opening 10 minutes of the first leg, there’s every chance a famous victory.

AC Milan are reportedly monitoring West Ham winger Said Benrahma, who would likely cost around €25-30million, according to Sempre Milan.

The Algeria international has been a key player for the Hammers in recent times, and Milan have watched him closely in recent weeks as they consider making a summer move.

According to the report, the Rossoneri could try to bring Benrahma’s fee down by including Alexis Saelemaekers as part of the deal.

It’s fair to say that AC Milan are delighted by the arrival of Olivier Giroud, with one player even going as far as to comparing his impact with that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Alexis Saelemaekers was talking to Tuttosport when he was asked about the Frenchman’s arrival at the club.

“He has a profile similar to that of Ibra, as they have raised many trophies,” he was quoted as saying by Tuttomercatoweb.

“Giroud has won the World Cup, the Champions League and for a group that he hasn’t won anything yet, it’s important to have this type of player who can teach you how to win and have the confidence to do it.”

Though he’ll soon be 35 years of age, Giroud has shown no signs of wear and tear, and clearly still knows where the goal is.

In the 49th minute of this afternoon’s Serie A encounter between AC Milan and Verona, an opportunity was sparked when Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori played the ball out of the back to Rade Krunic.

The Bosnian ace shuttled the ball forward to Alexis Saelemaekers, who drove forward before slotting it towards the edge of the area, where Rafael Leao dummied the ball to leave it for Diogo Dalot.

Dalot, a loanee from Manchester United, showed some brilliant attacking quality as he shimmed the ball away from a defender, carrying it into the box, before firing the ball straight into the top corner.

This was a truly amazing finish from the marauding full-back, the Verona goalkeeper didn’t even bother moving, there was no chance of stopping a strike like this.

Serie A league leaders AC Milan travel to struggling Cagliari this evening.

The Sardinian hosts sit just two points above the relegation zone and are on a winless streak of 10 games. On the flip side, Milan are level at the top of the table with rivals Inter, but have played a game less. Therefore, victory tonight would give the Milanese an outright advantage over Antonio Conte’s men.

An already tough task for Cagliari looks that bit harder tonight as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to make his league return. Looking to pick up from where he left off, Zlatan has hit the net ten times in his last seven matches.

The Swedish superstar is pivotal to Milan’s title charge and may well play his part in matching a club record of scoring goals in 19 consecutive Serie A away games, a feat that was last achieved between March 1992 and April 1993. To make matters worse for the home side, Zlatam Ibrahimovic has also scored in each of his last six league games against Cagliari.

As for the hosts, Cagliari sit 16th in the league table and are now in grave danger of being relegated. Eusebio Di Francesco’s team have been criticised for being too weak in defence and the manager is under fire, despite his credentials as a former Roma coach, due to the startling fact that Cagliari have not won a league match since November 2020.

After being eliminated from the Coppa Italia in midweek, the Sardinian club are now experiencing their worst run of results since 2013. They also have 15 points less than they had accumulated last season.

Despite that negativity, Riccardo Sottil, who scored during the week, has publicly claimed that the squad are convinced that Di Francesco can turn things around (according to Sports Mole).

Both teams will be somewhat depleted tonight. Rafael Leao is suspended for Milan, whilst Ante Rebic is self-isolating. San Siro midfielder Rade Krunic also remains in quarantine, but it is hoped that Ismael Bennacer and Alexis Saelemaekers will be back in action after suffering from thigh strains.

AC Milan have completed a deadline day signing as they’ve officially confirmed the arrival of Alexis Saelemaekers from Anderlecht.

The 20-year-old arrives following a decent spell with the Belgian outfit, as he has bagged two goals and four assists in 19 outings so far this season after playing a key role last year.

However, he will now begin a new chapter in his career as Milan confirmed in a club statement that Saelemaekers has joined on an initial loan deal until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Further, Calciomercato report that the deal could eventually cost the Italian giants around €8m if they decide to make it a permanent switch, but much will now seemingly depend on the the Belgian youngster’s ability to impress coach Stefano Pioli and the Milan hierarchy.

It’s an important late addition for the Rossoneri, as after opting to green light an exit for Suso to join Sevilla, coupled with Krzysztof Piatek’s departure, there were perhaps a few concerned supporters over the lack of depth.

While Saelemaekers isn’t a proven individual at the highest level, he has shown some promising signs with Anderlecht and he’ll no doubt be motivated to make his spell at Milan a success to ensure that it lasts beyond the next few months.

Milan have been busy in January as Saelemaekers becomes their fifth signing, following the arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Asmir Begovic, Simon Kjaer and Diego Laxalt.

Meanwhile, there have also been a number of exits in addition to Suso and Piatek, with Pepe Reina, Mattia Caldara and Ricardo Rodriguez also departing.

Milan face Verona on Sunday looking to extend a five-game winning streak across all competitions, while they now sit eight points adrift of Roma who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.
