Enzo Maresca has been working away with his new Chelsea squad during this pre-season, knowing that some of those players do not have a future at the club.

With just over three weeks to go until the 2024/25 Premier League campaign begins, all clubs will want to have a clear idea of not only who their starting XI will be, but also which players remain at their disposal.

From Chelsea’s point of view, Trevoh Chalobah remains surplus to requirements, and CaughtOffside sources now understand that the player himself is willing to move on elsewhere to continue his professional career.

Chelsea to sell Trevoh Chalobah, three EPL clubs circling

Fortunately for the player, the three English top-flight clubs that CaughtOffside sources indicate are interested are all from London.

Crystal Palace, West Ham and Fulham are tracking the 24-year-old English centre-back, and are reportedly keen to fully understand the conditions of any deal.

The Hammers are believed to be hunting for a replacement for the outgoing Nayef Aguerd, while sources say Crystal Palace want to sign an English player to replace Marc Guehi.

Whilst keeping Guehi is the Eagles’ preference, after his excellent Euro 2024 performances the South Londoners will understand that his value will be maximised and now would be the best time to cash in.

CaughtOffside sources note that Palace will make an opening offer of £20m but Chelsea are minded not to sell for anything below the £25m-£30m mark.

Given that Chalobah is still effectively some way from his ‘prime’ years as a player, whomever ends up signing him can be assured, injuries notwithstanding, that they are getting a bargain and will have a solid, English centre-back at the heart of their defence for years to come.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is attracting interest from the likes of Fulham and Galatasaray, but Erik ten Hag insists United want to keep hold of him.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their squad having finished a disappointing eighth last season and bottom of their Champions League group.

After a slow start to the window there’s been a flurry of activity at Old Trafford with a number of deals being completed, and several more near the finish line.

Ten Hag insists United want to keep McTominay

United have signed striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, whilst teenage centre back Leny Yoro has also arrived from Lille, with the club also believed to working on deals for Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt.

Midfield is an area United are looking to strengthen and they are believed to be trying to offload Casemiro, whilst the club won’t be taking up their €20m buy option on Sofyan Amrabat following his loan spell from Fiorentina last season.

United have also been linked with a move for France international Adrien Rabiot who is now a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired.

Scott McTominay and Erik ten Hag in conversation.
Ten Hag wants McTominay to remain at Old Trafford this summer.

Question marks have also surrounded the future of Scotland international McTominay who was the subject of interest from West Ham last summer.

The 27-year-old is once again attracting interest this summer with the likes of Tottenham, Fulham and Turkish giants Galatasaray all said to be interested.

However, Ten Hag has come out and insisted United want to keep the midfielder and that he’s a very important part of the squad.

“We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs,” Ten Hag said.

“When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest. But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad.

“What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”

McTominay popped up with a number of late and important goals last season for United as he scored ten goals in 43 appearances in all competitions, but he only has one year remaining on his current deal although United have a club option for a further year.

Here we go soon for Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal transfer

One of the big stories of the day is with Riccardo Calafiori and Arsenal – the ‘here we go’ is coming because there is an agreement between Arsenal and Bologna on a €40m fixed fee, €5m in add-ons, and a sell-on clause for Bologna. Calafiori had already agreed a contract with Arsenal back in June, which would be until 2029, so everything is ready for him to go to Arsenal.

Calafiori has asked Bologna to be allowed to fulfil his dream and go to Arsenal, so it will be completed in the next days. The next key steps will be between Bologna and Basel to agree on payment terms for the 50% sell-on clause that Basel had for their former player. They’re set to receive a big amount of money, and so they now have to agree with Bologna now to structure this part of the deal, while Arsenal are just waiting.

Despite some reports that the deal had stalled, the reality is that the negotiations never stopped. It was not easy, but they kept going, and now there’s an agreement. Arsenal fans can be excited by this signing – I think he can do great in Premier League, he’s an excellent player, we saw that with his form in Serie A and with Italy at the Euros also.

Another story to watch at Arsenal is that Crystal Palace will bid for Emile Smith Rowe. Let’s see if Arsenal reject the bid, like they did with Fulham, or if they will be ready to negotiate. Still, Smith Rowe looks like being an interesting situation to watch in the next days.

Another Arsenal sale could be Eddie Nketiah, who has been attracting strong interest from Marseille since last week. Now it’s true that, as reported in France, Marseille have presented a proposal to Arsenal – there is still no agreement, but there is a negotiation ongoing between the two clubs.

Manuel Ugarte to Man Utd latest, plus truth on Sancho and Mount future

There’s a chance for Jadon Sancho to stay at Manchester United – a lot will depend on the next weeks. Pre-season, feelings with the manager, performances…he has chances to stay. Interest from other clubs remains but there have been no official bids so far, so it’s still quiet. Sancho’s decision to clarify with Erik ten Hag also shows how they can be ready to continue together, but it depends on what happens in the next weeks.

There were reports yesterday about Mason Mount potentially leaving Manchester United. From what I’ve heard on the club and player side, however, is exactly the same, and that’s that Mount doesn’t want to leave Man United. He wants to do his best to show his skills at United after an unlucky first season with injuries. And United, from what I’m hearing, have no intention to sell Mount, so at the moment it’s absolutely under control and he’s set to be involved in the project of Erik ten Hag.

Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte said yes to Manchester United a few days ago – they’ve reached an agreement with the player and his agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Leny Yoro. Ugarte wants to go to Man United and so now they’re negotiating with PSG – also because United know that PSG are advancing well in talks to sign a new midfielder – Joao Neves.

Paris Saint-Germain have presented an official offer to Benfica for Neves – around €70m, but Benfica want more. Still, they understand that they will not get the full €120m release clause for Neves – they always tried to ask for this clause and this is why a deal didn’t happen earlier, but they now know that Neves has agreed terms with PSG.

Neves is convinced by the PSG project under Luis Enrique, and Benfica also know that PSG will not pay the clause. For now, the €70m offer is not enough, but negotiations are ongoing, and so PSG look like they could sign Neves in the next days.

So, it could be one in and one out in the PSG midfield as Ugarte is an option for Man United. However, I don’t have any substantial update on Adrien Rabiot and Man United now, despite links. The player’s camp is talking to several clubs after leaving Juventus on a free transfer, but at the moment I’m not aware of anything imminent with Man United.

Dani Olmo clause expires – what next for Bayern and Barca target?

Dani Olmo’s €60m release clause at RB Leipzig will now expire. So what does it mean? At the time of writing no one has triggered the release clause – there was no last-minute deal, it’s not happening. The relationship between Olmo and Leipzig remains excellent, and the idea remains that if Leipzig receive good proposals, even after the release clause expired, Olmo can still leave the club.

This is the idea, though of course it’s more difficult without a release clause as negotiations will be needed between interested clubs and Leipzig. Still, there is room for things to happen, even if there is nothing currently going on with Chelsea and Manchester City, despite rumours. Man City appreciate the player, but any reports of them working on the deal are fake news, they’ve not been working on the deal. Chelsea, meanwhile, believe they are already well covered with left-footed attacking players.

Still, there is interest from other Premier League clubs, so it could be an interesting situation to watch, let’s see if they will move in the next few days or weeks. Meanwhile, as I’ve previously reported, Olmo remains an option for Bayern Munich in case their deal for Xavi Simons collapses. Olmo is still on Bayern’s list, so let’s see what happens with Simons, as Olmo is still an option for Bayern.

This is nothing new – Olmo has been on Bayern’s list since May, with Max Eberl, former director at Leipzig, knowing the player very well. Barcelona also appreciate Olmo and have a good relationship with his agents, because he shares agents with Mikayil Faye, so they had the opportunity to ask about his situation. Still, for Barca, the priority is Nico Williams.

Let’s see what happens with Williams, but he’s the obsession of Barcelona right now. Negotiations are ongoing on the player side, and then let’s see what Barca decide to do with him or with Olmo eventually, but at the moment there’s still no bid.

In other news…

Alphonso Davies – Now Bayern are open to keeping Alphonso Davies and see what happens in contract talks, but if he doesn’t extend, Davies remains an option for Real Madrid in 2025, but Real Madrid were never gonna pay €50m or €60m for him when he’s just a year away from being a free agent.

Andriy Lunin – Much has been written about Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, and the reality is that he could leave Real Madrid this summer, but to name specific clubs we will have to wait for a few more days. As I said earlier in the week, Real Madrid have not received any approach for Lunin from Chelsea so far.

Julian Alvarez – Manchester City keep considering Julian Alvarez as a key player for them, so it would have to be a big proposal or there is no chance for all the clubs interested. There is no way for loan, I also saw that kind of reports. More talks between Julian’s camp and City in the next days will take place to discuss future steps.

Andreas Pereira – I don’t want to deny any colleague but I don’t have information on talks between Chelsea and Andreas Pereira, or Chelsea and Fulham so far, despite what has been reported in Brazil. Chelsea’s focus is on a right-footed winger, striker, and goalkeeper. On Pereira’s future in general, it will depend on opportunities and what kind of proposals he will receive.

There’s always so much transfer news to sift through at this time of the year, but we’ve put together ten deals that genuinely look like ones to watch out for very soon, if Fabrizio Romano and other top journalists are anything to go by.

While there’s still plenty of time left until Deadline Day, and we’ve seen more than a few twists and turns in some major sagas in recent times, here’s a look at some signings that should go through soon due to being at an advanced stage, or that are at least being worked on at the moment.

Read on four our pick of ten transfer deals to watch out for next this summer…

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal

After weeks of speculation, it now looks like the Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal transfer deal is more or less a done deal, with just some formalities remaining before it can be made official, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column earlier today, Romano said: “Riccardo Calafiori and Arsenal – the ‘here we go’ is coming because there is an agreement between Arsenal and Bologna on a €40m fixed fee, €5m in add-ons, and a sell-on clause for Bologna.

“Calafiori had already agreed a contract with Arsenal back in June, which would be until 2029, so everything is ready for him to go to Arsenal.

“Despite some reports that the deal had stalled, the reality is that the negotiations never stopped. It was not easy, but they kept going, and now there’s an agreement.”

Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United

After some exciting early deals for young talents Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, Manchester United could make another smart move to strengthen their squad as they’ve agreed personal terms with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

As also reported by Romano, Ugarte wants to join Man Utd, and the Uruguay international looks like he could be an important upgrade on inconsistent performers like Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat, who looked far from good enough for much of last season.

This perhaps isn’t as advanced as something like the Calafiori to Arsenal deal, as United still need to agree a deal with PSG, but one imagines they’ll be prepared t let him go as they have a midfield signing of their own in the works. More on that next…

Joao Neves to PSG

Although it’s not done yet, PSG are accelerating their efforts to sign Benfica midfield wonderkid Joao Neves, as French football expert Jonathan Johnson exclusively told us for his column last week.

Neves is one of the most exciting young players in the world in his position, and it makes sense that the Ligue 1 giants seem keen to offload someone like Ugarte and bring in this exciting long-term addition who perhaps looks a better fit for Luis Enrique’s style of play.

“Joao Neves to PSG looks to be accelerating at the moment, with PSG stealing a march on other European competitors,” Johnson said on Thursday.

“PSG are looking to negotiate a deal with Benfica, with Neves happy to make the move to the Parc des Princes. It’s now down to the two clubs to reach an agreement.”

Victor Osimhen to PSG

Another big name to watch for PSG will be Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is another concrete target for the French champions as they look for a big-name signing up front to replace departing star Kylian Mbappe.

Osimhen to PSG looks to be advancing, as Romano recently told us, and it’s fair to say the Nigeria international will be one of the biggest names to move this summer if this deal does go through.

Napoli aren’t an easy club to negotiate with, so this one can’t be considered a done deal yet, but it seems there is serious intent there from PSG, who surely need upgrades on last summer’s unconvincing new attacking duo Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani.

Victor Osimhen to PSG and Romelu Lukaku to Napoli?

Romelu Lukaku to Napoli

If Osimhen does leave Napoli for PSG, Romano has made it clear that Romelu Lukaku to Napoli would be one to watch, with the Belgian striker surely having no future at Chelsea.

Lukaku has been out on loan for the last two seasons, first at Inter Milan and then at Roma, and it seems he could now be set for a spell with a third Serie A club.

Even if Lukaku has flopped at Chelsea, Napoli would surely be pretty happy with him as a replacement for Osimhen up front, especially as one imagines he probably wouldn’t be too expensive.

Transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano has discussed Chelsea’s priorities for this summer’s market amid links with Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that he’s not aware of anything concrete going on between Chelsea and Pereira, or between Chelsea and Fulham, with the Blues’ current priorities seeming to be elsewhere.

Romano says Chelsea are currently focusing on a new striker, a new right-footed winger, and a new goalkeeper, so it’s fair to say that Pereira wouldn’t really make sense as a priority.

Pereira shone at Fulham last season, though, so it could perhaps make sense that there’ll be interest in him at some point this summer, with Romano admitting that the Brazilian’s future could depend on what kind of offers come in for him.

Andreas Pereira to Chelsea?

That might perhaps open the door for Chelsea later, but for now it seems fans don’t need to read too much into this story.

Pereira transfer: Chelsea links played down by Romano as Blues’ focus lies on other positions

“I don’t want to deny any colleague but I don’t have information on talks between Chelsea and Andreas Pereira, or Chelsea and Fulham so far, despite what has been reported in Brazil,” Romano said.

“Chelsea’s focus is on a right-footed winger, striker, and goalkeeper. On Pereira’s future in general, it will depend on opportunities and what kind of proposals he will receive.”

Pereira struggled at Manchester United as a youngster, but he’s shown real promise at Fulham and it would be interesting to see him try his luck at a big six club again now that he’s matured and got more experience at the highest level under his belt.

Fulham will no doubt hope to keep Pereira, however, after the blow of losing another key player in Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich this summer.

Man United midfielder Scott McTominay hopes to stay at Man United for the upcoming season and beyond as the Manchester club seek £30m to part ways with the Scotland international this summer.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at Old Trafford in 2025 and the current transfer window would be the ideal time to sell the midfielder should he fail to agree a new deal with Man United.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new central midfielder, with the Premier League giants pursuing deals for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte and free agent Adrien Rabiot. According to L’Equipe, United will need to part ways with €70m in order to secure the services of the Uruguay international, while Rabiot is likely to demand large wages.

Man United hope to shift Casemiro on ahead of the new campaign getting underway, however, McTominay is another option to help fund other signings.

According to Football Insider, the Manchester club have placed a £30m price tag on the 27-year-old and are believed to have rejected a bid from Fulham this week as it fell below this valuation, reports talkSPORT.

The Scotland international’s priority is to stay at Old Trafford ahead of the new season and will hope to do enough throughout the 2024/25 campaign to earn a new contract.

Scott McTominay was crucial for Man United last season

McTominay was also linked with a move away from Man United last summer as West Ham pursued the midfielder. However, the Scotland star remained at Old Trafford and had a big season with the Manchester club.

The 27-year-old scored 10 goals during the 2023/24 campaign and became a regular in Ten Hag’s team, playing 43 games in all competitions.

The midfielder scored some huge goals for United throughout the season, especially during their run to the FA Cup title, netting in the Red Devils’ quarter-final against Liverpool and again in the semi-final against Coventry City.

McTominay has spent his whole career at Man United and as his time at Old Trafford looks to be coming to an end, it is not hard to see why the 27-year-old doesn’t want to give it up easily.

Emile Smith Rowe is expected to leave Arsenal during the current transfer window and it is being reported that Crystal Palace are preparing a bid for the 23-year-old.

Fulham made an attempt to sign the midfielder this week as Marco Silva looks to strengthen his midfield following the departure of Joao Palhinha. Still, the Cottagers failed to convince Arsenal to sell the Englishman and have now left the door open for other clubs to enter the race.

The London club submitted an offer of around £30m plus add-ons for Smith Rowe but the Gunners rejected the proposal.

This indicates that Arsenal could seek close to the £50m mark for the 23-year-old, which is a lot for a player who has just two years remaining on his current deal and hasn’t played a lot over recent seasons.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace will now try and convince Arsenal to sell Smith Rowe as the Eagles are preparing to send a proposal.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner is said to be a big admirer of the Englishman and wants the Arsenal star at Selhurst Park this season.

Are Arsenal asking too much for Crystal Palace target Emile Smith Rowe?

Smith Rowe has been with Arsenal his entire career and many thought he was on course to become a superstar following his impressive 2021/22 campaign.

However, injuries have affected his development and recent seasons have seen the 23-year-old slip down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order. The Englishman is not guaranteed many minutes at the Emirates Stadium and it would be best for the player to try a new challenge.

Smith Rowe only received 475 minutes of action last season in all competions, therefore, Arsenal’s asking price is quite high, especially when the midfielder only has two years remaining on his current deal.

The North London club may have to lower their asking price for the Englishman if they want to part ways with him this summer.

A lot of clubs will not be willing to pay over £50m for Smith Rowe as it remains to be seen what the Crystal Palace bid will be.

Tottenham are open to offers for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer and Fulham are one Premier League club believed to be readying a move for the Denmark international.

Marco Silva is looking to bring in a new midfielder ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as his options at Craven Cottage are limited. The Portuguese coach currently has Tom Cairney, Harrison Reed, and Sasa Lukic to choose from following the departure of his main star Joao Palhinha.

The 29-year-old joined Bayern Munich as part of a deal worth €56m. The Bundesliga club had an interest in the Fulham star since last summer and having failed to secure his services back then, the German giants returned.

The London club originally wanted Man United’s Scott McTominay but they had a bid worth £17m rejected by the Manchester club, reports Football Insider.

As a result, Fulham have now turned their attention to Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the Cottagers said to be readying a bid for the Danish midfielder.

Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should jump at Fulham opportunity

Hojbjerg does not have a future at Tottenham as the North London club would ideally like to sell the midfielder before his contract expires in 2025.

The Danish star was not a major player for Ange Postecoglou last season starting in just nine of his 36 Premier League appearances as the Australian coach preferred Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr in his midfield two.

Spurs have now added Archie Gray to their ranks having signed the youngster from Leeds United during the current transfer window. This will reduce Hojbjerg’s minutes further and the 28-year-old should jump at the chance to play for Fulham.

Bigger clubs may arrive for the Tottenham star but Fulham is an exciting project under Silva’s leadership as the West London club played some beautiful football last season on the way to a 13th-place finish – which could have been higher.

It remains to be seen if the Cottagers submit an official proposal to Tottenham for the Denmark international, but Hojbjerg will certainly be at a new club come the end of the transfer window.

Man United have rejected a bid from Fulham believed to be less than £30m for Scott McTominay as the London club look to recruit the Scotland midfielder during the current transfer window.

The Cottagers lost Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich last week with the Premier League club agreeing to the Portuguese star’s sale for a transfer fee worth €56m. The Bundesliga club had an interest in the Fulham star since last summer and having failed to secure his services back then, the German giants returned.

Marco Silva now needs a replacement for the 29-year-old and it is believed that Fulham are interested in Man United’s Scott McTominay.

According to the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler, the Cottagers have seen a bid worth less than £30m rejected by the Manchester club as they seek a higher fee for the Scotland international.

It is not certain if Fulham will return for the 27-year-old over the coming weeks, but they have a good chance of signing McTominay if they do as the midfielder only has one year left on his current United contract – although the Red Devils have the option to extend that by another year.

Scott McTominay needs to leave Man United this summer

Although McTominay featured 43 times for Man United last season, it would be best for the 27-year-old to leave Old Trafford, as the Scotland star is not a guaranteed starter at the Manchester club and Erik ten Hag is also expected to sign a new midfielder this summer.

The Man United star is in a period of his career where he needs to be one of the first names on the teamsheet and the midfield talent would be guaranteed that at Fulham. The Cottagers are one of the more exciting teams in the Premier League and working under Marco Silva could be good for McTominay’s career.

The 27-year-old will find it hard to leave Man United having spent his entire career with the Premier League giants but it is a move he needs to make ahead of the new campaign.
