Manchester City will cut their losses and accept a cut-price fee for struggling midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

That’s according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claims the Premier League champions are willing to let the midfielder move on for a sum far less than what they paid for him.

The Cityzens signed Phillips, 28, from boyhood club Leeds United just two years ago in a deal worth a reported £42 million, but after starting just five Premier League matches since his switch, the Englishman has failed to replace Rodri in the heart of Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

Manchester City slash Kalvin Phillips asking price following disastrous transfer

And despite being allowed to leave the Etihad and spend the second half of last season on loan with West Ham, the ex-Leeds star’s poor form saw him dropped by David Moyes before missing out on Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for the EUROs.

Kalvin Phillips has endured a torrid two years at Man City.

Consequently, in a desperate attempt to get his faltering career back on track, Phillips would undoubtedly welcome a new challenge. And City appear not to be standing in the midfielder’s way with the 10-time league winners willing to accept just £20 million for the 28-year-old.

Believed to be wanted by Everton as Sean Dyche prepares for an important season with hopes of avoiding relegation, Phillips’ links to Goodison Park could see him line up in the Toffees’ famous blue kit.

Everton face a battle with Nottingham Forest to sign midfielder Florentino Luis from Benfica, according to reports.

Making his debut in February 2019, Florentino has become a regular in the Benfica side, playing 131 times for the club across all competitions, scoring once and providing four assists, winning two league titles along the way.

The 24-year-old finished 2023/24 top among Benfica players for tackles (79), second for interceptions (49) and with a pass accuracy of 89.03%, providing a steady presence in front of his defence, with and without the ball.

“He is the kind of player every coach would like to have in their squad,” former Benfica coach Joao Tralhao told GOAL of Florentino in 2023.

“He’s an amazing boy, a hard worker, calm, professional, always prepared to listen and he is a proper team player. He doesn’t think only of himself.”

Could Florentino replace Amadou Onana?

Even before the summer transfer window opens, it’s understood that central midfield is one of the key areas of concern for Everton this summer. That need would only become more urgent should rumours linking Amadou Onana to Arsenal be true.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees are pursuing a loan deal for out-of-favour Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips. However, it looks like he’s not the only target.

A report from Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness) states that Everton have been interested in Florentino since January and even tried to bring the 84-time Portugal youth international to Goodison Park at the end of that transfer window.

The report also states that Benfica value Florentino at €30m, meaning he would only become a more realistic option should Onana be sold, given Everton’s precarious position when it comes to Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules. The Toffees are, of course, not out of hot water having already suffered an eight-point deduction last season.

It’s understood Nottingham Forest — another side hit with a points deduction in 2023/24 — are also preparing to join the race for Florentino, who Benfica would rather sell in a bid to keep Arsenal and Man Utd target Joao Neves around for another season.

Manchester City have increased their options as they look to move on midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The English midfielder has endured a difficult time at the Etihad Stadium since joining the club two seasons ago from Leeds United.

He has been a benchwarmer for Pep Guardiola’s team following his promising move from Leeds.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been a bit part player for the Premier League champions and they are now determined to move him on this summer.

According to Rob Dawson of ESPN, the Sky Blues are not only open to listening to offers for Phillips but also considering another loan move away from the club for the midfielder.

Phillips joined West Ham United in a loan move in January but his spell under David Moyes at the London Stadium was disastrous.

He only started three games for the Hammers since joining them, making a number of high profile errors in his time in east London.

The player has realised he is not part of the plans of Man City manager Guardiola and a move away from the club is the only option to revive his career.

In just one and a half seasons at the Etihad Stadium, Phillips has made 31 appearances totaling 911 minutes – little more than ten complete games – in all competitions since joining Guardiola in Manchester in the summer of 2022.

The midfield player, a member of the Three Lions squad that advanced to the Euro 2020 final, has experience a huge decline in his career.

Phillips has no future at Man City

However, with Man City looking to move him on, he could get the chance to get his career back on track.

Failing to make it to the England squad for the Euro this summer would have hurt Phillips and it looks like he is determined to make a move this summer in order to win his place back in Gareth Southgate’s team.

Sky Sports have reported that Everton are interested in a move for Phillips this summer.

It remains to be seen which club Phillips will join but he is not going to stay at the Etihad Stadium for long now.

Premier League champions Manchester City are looking to offload Kalvin Phillips in the summer transfer window.

Buy Last Minute Tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final!

The midfielder has struggled to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium following his move from Leeds United.

Phillips has spent most of his Man City career warming the bench but now his time at the club could be coming to an end soon.

According to Sport, Man City have decided to let the midfielder leave the club if they get an offer of €30m (£25m).

The 28-year-old Phillips had a challenging 2023–24 season during which he remained out of favour at City until going on loan to West Ham in January.

This season, Phillips made just ten appearances for City and was unable to establish himself as a mainstay in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven.

After moving to east London, he started just three league games, David Moyes took him off at halftime in one of them while in the other he was shown a red card.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola has no plan to keep Kalvin Phillips at the club.

Due to his lackluster performances at the London Stadium, he was demoted to the bench and was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England team for the forthcoming European Championships in Germany.

A report in The Sun has linked him to a move to Everton, with Sean Dyche’s team targeting a loan move for the midfielder.

Despite the fact that the club spent £45 million (fee via Sky Sports) on him in 2022, Phillips knows his time at City is done, and after a challenging two years, he is searching for a new opportunity.

Phillips should leave Man City this summer

If the appropriate opportunity presents itself, Phillips would love to leave England and join a Champions League team.

A move away from Man City is what Phillips needs in his career in order to revive it.

The midfielder was one of England’s most important players a few years ago but leaving Leeds United started the decline of his promising career.

With Man City having won another Premier League title, setting a record for doing so in the process, one might think that all is rosy in the garden at the Etihad Stadium.

Buy Last Minute Tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final!

For one of Pep Guardiola’s players, however, nothing could be further from the truth.

It takes a special kind of talent to fit into the Catalan’s demanding way of playing, and only the very, very best are going to become regulars under him.

Any sign of a drop off in form or an intention to seek riches elsewhere isn’t generally met with a ‘no can do’ attitude.

Kalvin Phillips is set to leave Man City
Man City’s Kalvin Phillips could join Roma

Rather, Guardiola is more than happy for players to go, preferring instead to replace them with others already at the club or with a big name from elsewhere.

As arguably the best team in the world over recent seasons, the cachet that playing for Man City has at present tends to have the effect that whomever Guardiola wants, Guardiola gets.

One player signed by him, however, was almost instantly written off as a mistake.

Man City flop Kalvin Phillips could be on the way to Roma

The Athletic (subscription required) noted that Guardiola and his technical department had realised their error in signing Kalvin Phillips from Leeds in one of the earliest training sessions involving the player.

After subsequently hardly being played by City, Phillips eventually went out on loan to West Ham at the start of 2024, but that move turned out to be even more of a disaster, as one mistake after another dented his confidence.

By the end of his loan spell he wasn’t being played by David Moyes, and his 10 appearances for the Hammers totalled just 320 minutes (WhoScored). They included a red card and not once did he manage a full game for the East Londoners.

His nightmare could soon be over, however, as The Sun are reporting that the playing is considering moving abroad, and all of RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg and Serie A giants, Roma, are interested in his services.

Darren Bent has claimed that he could see Kalvin Phillips returning to Leeds United in this summer’s transfer window, had they won promotion back to the Premier League.

The England international has just endured a difficult spell on loan at West Ham United after barely playing at Manchester City since a £42million move from Leeds a couple of years ago.

Phillips is a fine player on his day, and would surely be warmly welcomed back to Elland Road, though of course one imagines he would now rather play for another Premier League team than step down to the Championship.

Bent thinks if Daniel Farke’s side had been able to get past Southampton in the Championship playoff final, than Phillips may well have been on his way back there this summer.

Phillips transfer: Bent makes big claim about former Leeds star

“He needs somewhere permanently. West Ham couldn’t have gone any worse. He’s now played himself out of the England internationals,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“At one stage, he was probably a starter you would say under Gareth Southgate. I know Sean Dyche will work miracles for him, Kalvin Phillips needs to go somewhere. I think he would have gone back to Leeds.

“I know they didn’t go up. Go back, settle somewhere, get a permanent transfer and then start to rebuild. If he is on loan again, if it doesn’t go (well), where does he go from there? I am not sure about this one.”

Everton are considering a loan move for Kalvin Phillips but Manchester City prefer a permanent sale according to reports.

Phillips, who was brilliant at Leeds has really struggled since swapping Elland Road for the Etihad in a deal worth £42m back in 2022.

The 28-year-old was an England regular but his lack of minutes at City and his subsequent poor loan spell at West Ham have seen the England midfielder miss out on Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for Euro 2024.

Everton consider loan move for Phillips

Phillips arrived at City having had two brilliant seasons with Leeds, but from the get go he failed to hit the ground running and adapt to life at City.

The England international started just two Premier League games for Pep Guardiola’s side in 18 months, and joined West Ham on loan in January.

Phillips didn’t fare much better at the London Stadium making just ten appearances for the Hammers, in which he made a number of mistakes.

Phillips has endured a terrible time at City.

As a result West Ham didn’t take up their option to buy the former Leeds man, and he returned to City.

City will be looking to offload Phillips this summer and Mail Sport report that Everton are considering a loan move, with Amadou Onana expected to leave Goodison Park.

The report adds the Premier League champions would prefer a permanent sale, while former club Leeds were interested in bringing Phillips back, but that won’t happen after they failed to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Mail Sport state the Toffees held an interest in January, but because they were in a relegation battle they missed out to West Ham.

Phillips needs to leave City to get his career back on track and start playing regular football after a really difficult couple of years.

The former Leeds man has made just 31 appearances in all competitions for City, with just 16 in the Premier League, which were mainly from the bench.

According to Sky Sports, Everton are interested in loaning midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.

The Toffees are looking at taking the England international to Goodison Park, according to journalist Vinny O’Connor.

The journalist confirmed the news on his official X account, giving hope of Phillips over a Premier League move after recent reports had linked him to Leeds United.

Since joining Man City for £45 million (fee via Sky Sports) from Leeds in July 2022, Phillips has only made 31 appearances.

Pep Guardiola stated in December that he does not see the England midfielder playing for his team which means the former Leeds United player has no future at the Etihad Stadium.

After a dismal loan at West Ham, the 28-year-old was left out of Gareth Southgate’s team for the European Championship and is keen to get his career back on track.

Everton boss Sean Dyche is eager to sign a midfield presence with the added benefit of Premier League experience, as Amadou Onana is anticipated to be sold in order to generate funds at the club.

man city kalvin phillips everton premier league
Kalvin Phillips is heading closer to Man City exit.

Phillips may definitely contribute something to the Everton team, which will need to improve before the 2024–2025 season after being involved in another relegation struggle.

The Toffees went through a crisis season in 2023-24 after they given point deduction punishment twice.

They still managed to avoid relegation and Dyche deserves praise for grinding out results with the team when their backs were up against the wall.

Man City outcast Phillips can be a valuable addition

In addition to having strong defensive qualities and the ability to play at the base of a midfield, Phillips is also quite comfortable with the ball and doesn’t mind putting in effort.

A move to Goodison Park may offer him the right opportunity to revive his career.

With no way back at Man City for the English midfielder, he needs to join a club where his contribution will be valued and where he can get regular playing time.

Manchester City have made the decision to sell midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League champions have made up their mind to cut down on their losses and recoup some of the money they paid for the former Leeds United midfielder.

The 28-year-old, who joined Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2022, is two years into a six-year deal, and his future appears to be unresolved.

He joined West Ham United on a loan deal in January but his move to the London Stadium has not worked.

He made a number of high profile errors while playing for the Hammers and the fans did not approve of his performances during his time at the club.

A permanent move to West Ham is unlikely for the midfielder.

If Leeds United had got promoted to the Premier League, they would have targeted a move for their former player having received the financial backing of playing in the Premier League.

However, they failed to get promoted after losing the Championship play-off final to Southampton.

Man City Pep Guardiola Kalvin Phillips
Kalvin Phillips has no future at Man City.

Another report from the Football Insider revealed that the Premier League champions are looking to get £40million for the midfielder in the transfer window.

His limited playing time during his spell at the Etihad Stadium has seen him lose his place in Gareth Southgate’s England team.

Phillips was not included in the provisional England squad for the Euros announced by Southgate.

Kalvin Phillips has struggled since joining Man City

It is a huge decline in the career of the player, who was England’s Player of the year just a few years back.

Leeds United will find it difficult to sign the fan favourite after failing to win their place back in the Premier League and Man City can now find it difficult to attract buyers for Phillips who would be willing to match their asking price.

The midfielder’s future is uncertain and staying at the Etihad Stadium will hamper his progress as a player and put his career in further misery.

Manchester City are prepared to listen to offers for Matheus Nunes, per HITC, the Portugal international they acquired from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £53 million last summer. This move comes as clubs from Saudi Arabia express interest in the midfielder.

Nunes, who was signed on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window, has struggled to establish himself in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Despite his hefty price tag, the former Sporting Lisbon and Wolves talent has made only seven Premier League starts and has yet to score a goal for the Cityzens.

Sources close to the club reveal that Manchester City may now be willing to offload Nunes. His representatives, including the well-known agent Jorge Mendes, are currently exploring options for his future. Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have shown interest in Nunes in the past, but the most immediate interest seems to be coming from Saudi Arabian clubs.

Nunes’ inability to break into the first team regularly can be attributed to the fierce competition in Manchester City’s midfield. With players like Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden consistently performing at high levels, Nunes found it challenging to secure a spot in Guardiola’s starting lineup.

City are also looking to offload another midfielder, Kalvin Phillips. Phillips, another big-money signing, has similarly failed to live up to expectations, prompting the English champions to consider his future as well.

Manchester City to sell Matheus Nunes and Kalvin Phillips this summer; Pep Guardiola wants to replace them with Bruno Guimaraes

Meanwhile, Guardiola is keen on strengthening his midfield having initially set his sights on West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, but the move fell through due to an investigation into Paqueta’s alleged betting rule violations. These issues have once more resurfaced as charges could be announced shortly.

With Paqueta seemingly out of the picture, Manchester City might turn their attention to Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian midfielder has a £100 million release clause in his contract, which is valid until June 30. Guimaraes has been a standout performer for Newcastle, and several top European clubs are contemplating triggering his release clause.
