Manchester City are interested in signing the Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

The Magpies value the Brazilian midfielder at £100 million and he is on the radar of Premier League rivals Arsenal as well.

According to a report via the Express, Manchester City would be willing to offer players like Rico Lewis or Oscar Bobb on loan in a deal for the midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City can convince Newcastle to sell Guimaraes this summer. The Magpies have an ambitious project and they will want to keep their best players.

The 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder has established himself as a key player for Newcastle since joining the club and he is undoubtedly one of the best central midfielders in the league right now. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for Manchester City.

The Premier League champions need to bring in an upgrade on players like Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes. Guimaraes could be the ideal acquisition for them.

Man City move could tempt Bruno Guimaraes

The Newcastle midfielder is likely to be tempted to join Manchester City as well. It would be a major step up in his career and he would get to push for major trophies every season. Manchester City have a proven track record when it comes to winning trophies and the opportunity to play for them will be quite attractive for any player.

The Brazilian midfielder is at the peak of his powers right now and this is the right time for him to take the next step in his career. Manchester City could help him fulfil his ambitions in the coming seasons. However, the asking price is quite steep and the Premier League champions are unwilling to pay £100 million for him. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can work out a deal that benefits them both.

England only managed a draw in their final game of EURO Qualifying, in a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia.

The attack for England was very flat on the day, struggling to create clear cut opportunities, and going behind in the first half, they managed to fight back and get a draw, but overall the performance wasn’t good enough from Gareth Southgate’s men.

Read on for our England player ratings, and who stood out for the Three Lions…

Jordan Pickford – 7 – Made two saves, including saving a penalty but the rebound was scored, not much else he could do.

Rico Lewis – 7 – Very unfortunate to give the penalty away, other than that thought he made a good account, making two tackles, making one key pass and completing 59/59 passes.

Harry Maguire – 6 – Completed five of his eleven long balls, and only had a pass completion of 84%, however he did win 5/6 aerial duels.

Marc Guehi – 6 – Made one tackle, won 2/3 ground duels and made two of his three long balls, but only won 1/5 aerial duels.

Kyle Walker – 7 – Recovered well when needed for England, making two interceptions, one tackle and one block, he also went forwards well, made one key pass, and completed both of his long balls attempted.

Declan Rice – 7.5 – Solid in the middle for England, made one key pass and kept it simple with a 96% pass accuracy. Also won 4/6 ground duels and made four tackles.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6 – Wasn’t at his best, only made one key pass and that is what he is in there for. Failed all three of his long ball attempts and only completed one of his five crosses.

Phil Foden – 7.5 – Was very involved, and looked the most dangerous for England going forward. Drifting around picking up the ball, completed two key passes, created one big chance and completed two of his three dribble attempts.

Jack Grealish – 7 – Was nice and direct when he got the ball on the flank, made two key passes and completed seven of his eight dribbles. Marginally offside for his goal which was correctly ruled out.

Ollie Watkins – 5 – Barely got involved in the game, only played 58 minutes and only managed 10 touches.

Bukayo Saka – 6 – Did make two key passes, but could’ve done more on that right hand side. Nearly had an assist for Grealish’s disallowed goal, but did fail both of his other cross attempts, and only completed one successful dribble out of three.

Subs: Harry Kane 7, Cole Palmer N/A, Marcus Rashford N/A, Kalvin Phillips N/A.

North Macedonia have been awarded a penalty, with a controversial call as Rico Lewis makes contact with Bojan Miovski.

On his England debut, Lewis has given away a penalty in the first half against North Macedonia, giving them a chance to take the lead against England.

Lewis trying to win a header has caught Miovski with his flailing arm, which the referee was sent to the monitor to review before giving the penalty.

England will feel hard done by on that decision, but they haven’t been at their best in the first half.

Gareth Southgate has decided to rest England captain Harry Kane, giving Ollie Watkins the nod upfront, and handing Rico Lewis his Three Lions debut.

Southgate has decided to make six changes to his England XI that beat Malta 2-0 on Friday, with Kieran Trippier, Fikayo Tomori, Jordan Henderson, Conor Gallagher, Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane all making way.

Replacing them in the starting lineup to face North Macedonia are Kyle Walker (who captains the side), Rico Lewis, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish.

This is a slightly more attacking lineup than the team that faced Malta on Friday, looking like we could see Phil Foden in the number 10 rather than out wide.

Lewis comes in at left back, who has the ability to invert into midfield and join Alexander-Arnold and Rice in midfield, giving Foden that license to stay further forward with the likes of Saka, Grealish and Watkins.

The defence is then made up of Walker, Maguire, Guehi and Lewis as previously mentioned, with Pickford between the sticks.

Rico Lewis is reportedly in line to make his England debut on Monday when the Three Lions take on North Macedonia in their final European Championship qualifier.

Securing a first-place Group C finish, Gareth Southgate’s side already know their qualification fate ahead of next summer’s tournament.

And following what has been another impressive qualifying campaign that has included six out of seven wins, with the Three Lions’ only hiccup coming in a 1-1 draw against Ukraine, Southgate, according to The Athletic, is preparing to award his youngest player with his first senior international cap.

Now reaping the rewards of an incredible breakthrough at Manchester City, Lewis, 18, is in line to rival club teammate Kyle Walker for their country’s jersey.

The left-back has also represented the Three Lions at Under-16, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level prior to his senior call-up last week.

Since being promoted to City’s first team 18 months ago, the 18-year-old, who has also represented the Three Lions at Under-16, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 levels, has directly contributed to three goals in 33 games in all competitions.

Chelsea’s in-form player, Cole Palmer, has earned a senior international call-up for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, along with Manchester City’s Rico Lewis. This selection comes as England grapples with several injuries among their squad.

Palmer’s exceptional club performance has earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s senior squad for the matches against Malta and North Macedonia. He will be joined by his former teammate, Rico Lewis, who is also a graduate of the Manchester City academy, and Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.

Since making his summer move to Stamford Bridge the 21-year-old has found the back of the net on four occasions as well as setting up teammates twice, in just six starts for his new club in the Premier League.

This is how the new England squad shapes up:

Despite having already secured their spot in the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany next summer, Southgate’s preparations for the remaining qualifying games have been disrupted by a series of injuries.

James Maddison, Callum Wilson, and Lewis Dunk have withdrawn from the squad due to various injuries, while the participation of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham remains uncertain.

Manchester City beat Young Boys in the Champions League 3-1 to retain top spot of Group G, with goals from Manuel Akanji and Erling Haaland (x2).

City dominated throughout, having 26 shots (14 on target), holding 69% possession and making 723 total passes. However Young Boys made it difficult equalising in the 52nd minute to make it 1-1, and then holding City out until the 67th minute when Haaland made it 2-1.

Read on for our City player ratings, and who stood out for the Citizens…

Ederson – 7 – Ederson made three saves, two of which were inside his box and also made two high claims. However did get lobbed for the goal.

Nathan Ake – 7 – Solid defensively down his left side, made two clearances, two tackles and one last man tackle. Also made two key passes from left back.

Ruben Dias – 7 – Was very important in build up for City, making 94 of his 97 passes and playing six of his eight long balls. Dias also made two clearances and one block.

Manuel Akanji – 8 – Scored the opener for City, as well as doing his part defensively with two clearances and a block. Also made two key passes.

Rodri – 8 – Was a huge positive for City having Rodri back in the side, so calm on the ball, got an assist and made 103 of his 110 passes, with four key passes.

Rico Lewis – 7 – The energetic youngster covered a lot of ground both defensively and in central areas, made one key pass and made two out of two long balls.

Jack Grealish – 7.5 – Very direct down the wing, completed three out of three dribble attempts and took three shots (two of which were on target). Also made three key passes and created two big chances.

Mateo Kovacic – 6 – Played slightly higher up on the left side for City in central zones, played one key pass but wasn’t creative enough in that area of the pitch.

Matheus Nunes – 7 – Played slightly higher in midfield too but on the right, made two key passes, completed three out of four long balls and competed three of his five dribble attempts.

Jeremy Doku – 7 – Did well in his 72 minutes, was looking to be direct and ask questions of the Young Boys defense. Completed two key passes, seven out of eight dribbles and had two shots on target.

Erling Haaland – 9 – Scored a brace to secure the victory for City, did what he does best and scored the goals. Had a whopping eight shots, five of which were on target.greali

Subs: Bernardo Silva 6, Julian Alvarez 7, Kalvin Phillips N/A, Sergio Gomez N/A.

Manchester City lost 1-0 to Arsenal in a game that looked set to end 0-0, however a late goal from Gabriel Martinelli meant Arsenal snatched all three points from Manchester City in a big title challengers clash early on this season.

City lost to Arsenal for the first time in the Premier League since 2015, and this could be a monumental moment in this years title challenge, after City pipped the Gunners to the title last season. One of the big reasons the Citizens managed to beat Arsenal to the Premier League title last campaign, was their 3-1 and 4-1 victories over them, giving them that six point swing at the top.

Read on for our Manchester City player ratings, and who really didn’t show up in this clash for City…

Ederson – 6 – There wasn’t much Ederson could do about the goal due to the deflection, he also made a big save inside the box which equated to a 0.81 x/G. He did pick up a yellow card at the end when trying to retrieve the ball quickly whilst Gabriel Jesus was trying to run down the clock.

Josko Gvardiol – 7 – Gvardiol was Manchester City’s main attacking threat, whether this was by design or the defensive set up from Arsenal is unsure. There was a lot of space for him to attack on the overlap down that flank, and it looked like if City were going to score that was going to be the route they took.

Nathan Ake – 6 – Ake was good defensively making three tackles and two clearances, but unfortunately the goal deflected off of him and past Ederson to give Arsenal their 1-0 lead.

Ruben Dias – 6 – Dias barely had any defensive actions in this game, only making the one clearance. He also made a few errors playing out from the back, making 77 successful passes out of 89, giving him an 87% pass accuracy which isn’t as good as it usually is for the defender.

Kyle Walker – 6.5 – Walker offered some attacking threat on the overlap down the right flank, and made a decent amount of defensive actions in the game with two clearances, one interception and two tackles, however maybe could’ve challenged Havertz for the header that led to the Arsenal goal.

Mateo Kovacic – 5 – Was very lucky to be on the pitch after two poor challenges in quick succession in the first half. Was taken off in the 68th minute, and looked like he lost his head in that first half.

Bernardo Silva – 7 – Silva played his role well, dropping deeper than the other midfielders of Rico Lewis and Mateo Kovacic to receive the ball and help City progress the ball. Silva had a pass accuracy of 95%, making 63 successful passes out of 66.

Rico Lewis – 6 – Lewis was the highest presser for Manchester City, and clearly Guardiola selected him to do this job, which he did well. Lewis pressed up high really well on the Arsenal pivot players, forcing the ball to go long instead of allowing them to play through the midfield lines.

Phil Foden – 6 – Foden looked to create in this game, but the lack of options hurt him in this game. Foden made two key passes, and had one big chance created, however the lack of runners in wide areas due to the narrow nature of City meant that Foden was running into brick walls.

Erling Haaland – 5 – Struggled to get into the game, didn’t manage to take a single shot and lost the ball eight times in his 23 touches. There was a lack of service for Haaland too, but overall just didn’t offer enough.

Julian Alvarez – 5.5 – Alvarez worked hard, and looked to deny Zinchenko the ball in advanced areas, however along with Haaland, he struggled to get into the game. He managed two shots but both of these chances came from his workrate and effort as opposed to linking up with his teammates.

Subs: John Stones 5, Matheus Nunes 5, Jeremy Doku 4.

Control of the group is at stake as Man City host RB Leipzig in their Champions League encounter.

Josko Gvardiol has the opportunity to play against his old team-mates who will be hoping that their 7-0 thrashing at the hands of City last season won’t be repeated.

Erling Haaland bagged five in that match and he leads the line again in this one, alongside Phil Foden and Jack Grealish – a front three to give any defence a run for their money.

Rico Lewis comes into the starting XI with Rodrigo and Bernardo Silva making up a solid midfield, whilst Kyle Walker, Nathan Akanji, Ruben Dias and Gvardiol will aim to keep things tight again at the back.

With 16 goals scored and six conceded this season in the Bundesliga, Leipzig come into the game in good form.

They’ve also not lost since the first game of the 2023/24 campaign against Leverkusen, they held Bayern last time out and have also won away at Borussia Monchengladbach as well as hammering second-placed Stuttgart 5-1.

Pep Guardiola’s side showed their Achilles heel against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend but have been perfect otherwise.

Playing at home would’ve been a significant enough advantage for the Champions League holders, however, given as this is another away game it might see a more equal contest.
