Leonardo Bonucci says he hopes Federico Chiesa remains at Juventus amid reports of a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur. 

Chiesa has notched 32 goals and 23 assists in 131 appearances across all competitions since joining Juventus from Fiorentina in 2020, winning two Coppa Italia titles along the way.

However, there has always been a feeling that Chiesa has never quite reached his full potential with the Old Lady, often struggling with fitness and consistency issues.

Newcastle United have been linked with the 26-year-old in the past but more recently, sources have informed CaughtOffside that Spurs have tabled a bid for the winger.

Chiesa has just one more year left to run on his contract at Juventus who, reportedly left him and Weston McKennie at home as they departed for a pre-season camp in Germany.

But according to the same source, Juventus have also sent a contract offer to the 51-time Italy international — who played four times at Euro 2024 this summer.

Bonucci discusses Chiesa’s Juventus future

Juventus legend Bonucci — who played over 500 times for Juventus across two spells, winning eight Serie A titles and playing in two Champions League finals — has admitted Chiesa needs to ‘take another step’ before he can be classed among the world’s elite players.

However, the former centre-back insisted he hopes Chiesa reaches that level as a Juventus player.

“I think he needs to understand what it is that he wants,” Bonucci said of Chiesa (via Football Italia).

“In recent years, he had difficulties in terms of physicality and character, now he needs to take another step to become a top player. I hope he will be at Juventus.”

Tottenham have matched the €6m-a-year contract offer to Federico Chiesa that he also has on the table from his current club Juventus as he seeks an improved salary.

Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Chiesa is looking for closer to €8m a year for his next contract, and he won’t rule out staying at Juventus if no one else is ready to come in with a tempting enough offer.

Tottenham, however, are understood to be keen on Chiesa, having communicated an interest when his representatives offered him to Premier League clubs recently.

Sources told CaughtOffside that Spurs are keen on Chiesa amid doubts over Richarlison’s future, but it seems they’re not currently willing to meet the Italy international’s €8m-a-year demands.

Chiesa also has interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but would prefer to stay in Europe. Previous interest from both Napoli and Roma has cooled as it’s become clear they cannot match Juve’s current contract offer to the player.

Chiesa transfer: What next for the Tottenham target?

It certainly seems like Chiesa could be on the move this summer, but at the moment there’s clearly nothing that advanced due to his high salary demands, so it remains to be seen if anyone will come in and offer him what he wants, or if the 26-year-old himself will be willing to lower his expectations.

Chiesa looks like he could surely be an exciting signing for Spurs and other top clubs, but at the same time it makes sense that there won’t be too many teams rushing to over-pay in this era of Financial Fair Play.

On Friday, Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Juventus have set a €25m asking price for Chiesa, with the Old Lady open to selling the 51-time international and, at present, not considering renewing his contract.

Given his previous links to St. James’ Park, it’s unsurprising to see Newcastle supporters getting excited about a potential move. It’s safe to say the fans have given their club the green light to make an approach.

One supporter wrote on X (via Newcastle World): “Chiesa at £25m is a no brainer, surely?”

Another wrote: “Wonder if Chiesa has been discussed internally by NUFC? Really is a steal at the price albeit with a poor injury record. Would be a statement while also being a huge bargain and the pace of the EPL could suit his dribbling skills. I’d take him over [Pedro] Neto any day.”

Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit of Juventus star Federico Chiesa.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, the Merseyside club have been eyeing a move for Chiesa for a long time and they are looking at his contract situation with the Serie A club.

With 10 goals and three assists in 37 games at the end of the 2023–24 season, the Italian helped his team finish in the top four and win the Coppa Italia.

It has been claimed that Liverpool’s scouts watched the Coppa Italia final, where Chiesa was instrumental in Juventus’ 1-0 triumph over Atalanta to win their first title in three years.

Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Italian giants are ready to part ways with the wide attacker.

As the player has entered the final year of his contract at Juventus, they are ready to let him leave the club for €25m (£21m).

New Juventus manager Thiago Motta does not see the player as part of his future plans as Romano confirmed the update on his X account.

He wrote:

Chiesa would add new dimension to the Liverpool attack

The Juventus attacker would add versatility to the Liverpool attack as he can play on both the flanks and also in the middle.

Chiesa is known for his pace and dribbling ability in the wide areas, something that Liverpool have in abundance with players like Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

However, the Italian attacker can add depth to their frontline and provide new manager Arne Slot with another option in the Reds attack.

Patience needed from Joao Felix and Barcelona

Nothing has changed with regard to Joao Felix.

Barcelona are still keen on bringing him back, but they need to agree on a deal with Atlético Madrid and that’s not easy or guaranteed yet.

Patience is needed, exactly the same as last year, and from the player’s point of view, Joao Felix is currently waiting again for Barcelona.

Several clubs in the race for Todibo

I’m not aware that Jean-Clair Todibo wasn’t interested in a move to West Ham.

I understand that West Ham were never going to bid for him without guarantees on the player side, and though he was keen on the move the problem was on the price – which is still considered to be too high.

The race for Todibo remains open, and there are several clubs interested.

No approaches for Mo Salah so far

Despite the rumours, I’ve still zero updates on Mo Salah’s situation so far.

It’s quiet, there are no changes with Saudi clubs, and though the interest is there since last summer, Liverpool have not received any proposals or approaches at the moment.

I don’t have any confirmation or guarantee either about Salah leaving and joining Saudi this summer.

Juve to part ways with Chiesa

The decision of Juventus has been made in the case of Federico Chiesa. The player will leave the club this summer, this is the plan.

You may ask me why an important player is being sold, and it’s because the new manager, Thiago Motta, wants to go in a different direction.

Juventus are not counting on him, so Chiesa is expected to be sold by Juventus this summer for something around €20m/€25m. It’s that cheap because the player is out of contract in summer 2025.

For sure, Federico Chiesa is a big opportunity on the market, and he will probably have several options to choose from.

Arsenal leading the race for Calafiori

Talking about Italian players, let me say that in the last 24 hours, Arsenal made contact on the club side for Riccardo Calafiori.

Talks are now ongoing but we are still waiting for an official bid, still waiting for the club to club agreement.

The player gave a green light to Arsenal in terms of contract, and is really excited by the possibility of working under Mikel Arteta.

He’s considered a proper, proper talent for the left-back or centre-back position, he can cover both of them.

Arsenal are really convinced that they have an agreement almost ready on the player side, but are still waiting to reach agreement with Bologna. I told you that the relationship with Bologna is very good, and they want something around €50m/€55m.

The other club monitoring the situation is Chelsea, but at the moment Arsenal are ahead.

Kilman in but Paqueta not yet out at West Ham

Flamengo’s directors have travelled to London to make an approach to West Ham for Lucas Paquetá but the reply was clear: no chance for a loan deal.

At the moment, the deal is complicated but Flamengo are keeping doors open to a new attempt in the next days or weeks. It’s not an easy one, for sure.

Sticking with West Ham, the deal is done between them and Wolves for Max Kilman. £40m is the package agreement for the player, wanted by Julen Lopetegui.

So, an important signing for the club.

Olise medical on Sunday, deal to complete soon

Michael Olise will have the first part of his medical as a new Bayern Munich player on Sunday. Right after that he will sign a contract until 2029.

The reason this has taken a little longer than expected is because Crystal Palace, as part of the agreement, will also have a sell-on clause, understood to be around 10%-15% and the issue to resolve was that.

Now everything is agreed between Bayern and Palace, and they’re waiting to exchange the documents, waiting to sign, waiting to complete the medical.

He should be unveiled by Bayern really, really soon,

De Ligt only wants Manchester United

Bayern want to sign Jonathan Tah and they’re very confident, so will keep discussing the structure of the de Ligt deal with United.

I’m told the only club with the authorisation from the player to negotiate with his agent is Manchester United. That is the intention of Matthijs de Ligt.

Finally, after difficulties for a fantastic defender, he could be back working for a manager who trusts him.
