Premier League club approach Aston Villa for 20-year-old midfielder

Nottingham Forest have reportedly approached Aston Villa for 20-year-old midfielder Lamare Bogarde who has seen his chances at the club become limited.

After an incredible season under Unai Emery, which saw them qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the early 80s, Villa fans will be more than excited to see club football return in August.

Like most Premier League clubs, Aston Villa are expected to have a busy summer transfer window as they look to add more depth to their squad so that they can manage next season’s more intense schedule.

But before they can bring in any new faces, it seems like they are prioritising outgoings with the likes of Douglas Luiz set to leave the club for Juventus.

Another potential outgoing is young midfielder, Bogarde, with Nottingham Forest approaching the club for the 20-year-old services according to Fabrizio Romano.

The youngster arrived at the club from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2020 and has since spent time at Bristol Rovers out on loan.

The versatile midfielder also has the ability to play as a central defender with his contract set to expire in one year.

Aston Villa are reportedly set to cancel Lamare Bogarde’s loan spell at Bristol Rovers before arranging for him to join another club.

The 19-year-old looks a promising talent, though he’s surely not ready for a run in Unai Emery’s first-team just yet.

It remains to be seen where Bogarde will end up next, but it seems his time in Bristol will soon be coming to an end.

In the midst of the Athletic’s (subscription required) brilliant in-depth piece on the impact of Brexit on Premier League transfers and the influx of Under-18s arrivals this summer, a bit of concerning news was shed in relation to Arsenal.

The Athletic report that Arsenal – and north London rivals Spurs – were both beaten to the signing of 16-year-old Lamare Bogarde by Aston Villa.

Many Premier League clubs were active when it came to the recruitment of Under-18s players from Europe this summer, as this represented the last chance to do before the Brexit rules came.

It’s not explicitly stated why the versatile defensive midfielder decided not to join the Gunners, but Villa’s ‘very aggressive’ approach and heavy scouting of talents was noted by the Athletic.

Bogarde is capped at Under-16s level for the Netherlands and has recently been promoted to Under-23s action by the Villains in Premier League 2.

Chelsea move ahead of Tottenham in race for midfielder transfer

Chelsea have reportedly leapfrogged their London rivals Tottenham in the pursuit of highly-rated Feyenoord wonderkid Lamare Bogarde.

The 16-year-old defensive midfielder looks a huge prospect and could be a useful signing for many top clubs in the near future, with a host of big names said to be interested in him, according to Football Insider.

The report claims, however, that Chelsea seem to have moved ahead of their rivals in the running for Bogarde, and that could be exciting news for Blues fans.

The west London giants have done well to trust and develop young players under current manager Frank Lampard, and Bogarde could justifiably be tempted to move to Stamford Bridge in the hope of following the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James and Billy Gilmour into the club’s first-team.

Of course, it might still be some time before Bogarde is ready to make that step up, but he could be more likely to get his chance under Lampard than under Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a highly-rated 16-year-old Dutchman have been dealt a blow with the news that north London rivals Arsenal have entered the race for his signature.

Winston Bogarde is the uncle of Feyenoord’s Lamare Bogarde, and the youngster has been earning rave reviews for his performances both at club and international level according to Football Insider.

It’s been suggested that the Gunners are now one of a handful of clubs, that include Spurs, that are keeping an eye on a player whose future appears to be in doubt heading into the summer.

Football Insider quote an Arsenal source as saying the club have been alerted to Bogarde’s potential by their network of scouts, who have watched the player closely.

With the youngster reportedly only having played age-group games to this point, any potential raid for his services would arguably see him installed in either club’s academy or reserve teams.

Even if he remains one for the future at this stage, both Arsenal and Spurs have to be at the front of the queue when such talents do become available.
