Liverpool are reportedly preparing to hold talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold over his future at the club.

The England international has just one year left on his contract and has yet to commit to fresh terms.

Uncertainty surrounding Alexander-Arnold, 25, has been amplified by suspected interest from Real Madrid. The Liverpool star’s ‘strong friendship’ with England teammate Jude Bellingham is expected to play a major role in any future decision he makes.

And although the Spanish giants are unlikely to make a move for the 25-year-old this summer recent reports suggest Los Blancos are preparing to make an approach next year as they plot their next wave of Galactico signings.

Liverpool want to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold amid Real Madrid interest

According to Football Insider, new manager Arne Slot is ‘desperate to keep hold’ of his number 66 and will make the player aware of his plans ahead of the post-Jurgen Klopp era, which could include possible captaincy should Virgil Van Dijk, another player also approaching the end of his contract, decide to move on.

Trent Alexander-Arnold celebrates after scoring for Liverpool.

Losing Alexander-Arnold would be a devastating blow to Liverpool and would undoubtedly anger fans.

The Scouse-born defender has spent his entire career with the Reds and was promoted to the senior first-team in 2016 after coming through their academy. He has since gone on to lift seven major trophies including the 2018-19 Champions League and 2019-20 Premier League.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly considering his options ahead of his contract expiring at Liverpool this time next year.

The defender’s deal is set to enter into its final 12 months, and with the Reds yet to offer the full-back a renewal, speculation over his future is beginning to mount.

Rumoured to be an emerging transfer target for Real Madrid, for the first time in his Liverpool career, Alexander-Arnold, 25, is seeing his long-term future questioned.

England players believe Jude Bellingham could influence Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold pursuit

And according to a recent report from the Independent, one aspect of the impending transfer saga that could push things in Los Blancos’ favour is Alexander-Arnold’s ‘strong friendship’ with midfielder and compatriot Jude Bellingham.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (left) and Jude Bellingham (right) have formed a ‘strong friendship’ while away on international duty with England.

The pair, who were both included in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for this summer’s EUROs in Germany, are believed to have grown closer prompting ‘many’ of the Three Lions’ squad to ‘talk as if it could swing the Liverpool wing-back to Real Madrid when his contract runs out next year’.

The big worry for Liverpool will be the 25-year-old’s impending free agency. Viewed as one of the sport’s most talented players, failure to tie Alexander-Arnold down on fresh terms could see the Reds dealt a hammer blow, financially, and in the eyes of their fans, who absolutely adore the homegrown scouser.

Since his promotion to Liverpool’s senior first-team back in 2016, Alexander-Arnold, who also has 29 caps for England on his CV, has scored 19 goals and registered 81 assists in 310 games in all competitions.

The 25-year-old has lifted seven major trophies, including the 2018-19 Champions League and 2019-20 Premier League.

Liverpool are going through a transition period right now after the arrival of new manager Arne Slot.

Following Jurgen Klopp’s departure after the end of last season, the Reds have entered a new era with a number of players expected to arrive as well as leave the club this summer.

Players like Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian have left the club after their contracts expired while a few more are set to follow them out of Anfield.

The Reds have been linked with a move for a defender and a wide-attacker, however, it remains to be seen who the club will eventually decide to sign.

According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are concerned about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at the club and they fear he could leave.

The England right-back has entered the final year of his contract at the club and he has still not renewed his deal.

As per the report, European Champions Real Madrid are monitoring his situation and particularly after the departure of Klopp, they are keeping an eye on the player with a potential future move.

The player has not expressed his desire to leave the club but the Reds fear that Real Madrid can turn his head, like they have done in the past with many players.

The lure of playing for the biggest club in the world may be too good to turn down if that opportunity is presented to Alexander-Arnold.

Real Madrid are looking to replace right-back Dani Carvajal, who is 32-years-old now and past his best.

The Spanish giants could be interested in making a move this summer instead of waiting till next summer when Alexander-Arnold becomes a free agent.

Real Madrid encouraged to sign Liverpool right-back

Alexander-Arnold’s England teammate Jude Bellingham joined the La Liga outfit last summer and he has been hugely successful there.

The report mentions that the European Champions are confident about signing more English talent after getting encouraged by Bellingham’s success.

Chelsea right-back Reece James was also being targeted by Real Madrid last year but his injury issues have closed the door on that transfer at the moment.

Liverpool should waste no time in offering a new and improved contract to their right-back in order to push Real Madrid away.

It hasn’t been the best summer for Liverpool and England star, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

A match-winning penalty in the European Championship was about as good as it got for the right-back cum midfielder, as Gareth Southgate evidently preferred a starting XI – particularly later in the tournament – that didn’t include him.

For so long one of the poster boys for his generation of players, Trent’s form has been patchy at best over the last 12-18 months.

No new updates on Trent says Romano

When he’s good, he’s brilliant, but if he’s off his game, it’s very noticeable indeed.

Perhaps that’s why Gareth Southgate kept him in reserve for the most part of Euro 2024 to see if he could become the impact player everyone hoped that he might.

From a club perspective, he has another 12 months to run on his contract, and as yet there doesn’t seem to be any movement on the player’s side to extend it.

Arne Slot and his backroom staff will want a settled group as the Dutchman gets to grips with his new role and Anfield, so it’s imperative that Trent’s situation is clarified soonest.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to agree a new deal with Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to agree a new deal with Liverpool.

“There’s no update on Trent Alexander-Arnold at the moment,” Fabrizio Romano said to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing.

“I shared in March that Real Madrid are monitoring the situation and this remains the case, nothing fresh or new so far.

“Real Madrid are just attentive to many situations of good players with short contracts, Alexander-Arnold is one of them.”

You can never say never in football of course, so a move to the Santiago Bernabeu can’t be ruled out at this stage.

The nearer Liverpool get to the end of the transfer window too, the harder it’s going to become for the Reds to negotiate a favourable deal for all parties.

Real Madrid have been in contact with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold since last month as the La Liga champions make steps towards signing the full-back.

Fabrizio Romano reported back in March that the Spanish giants were monitoring the England star’s situation at Anfield as the defender’s current deal expires at the Premier League club in 2025.

No talks have begun over a new deal and that has left the door open for clubs to make a move for the 25-year-old.

Months later, BILD’s Christian Falk has stated that Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is getting serious and that contact has been going on since last month. The journalist states that the Liverpool star is interested in joining the La Liga champions, which makes a transfer possible before the new season gets underway.

There is a chance that this deal goes through as there are a lot of factors that are working in Real Madrid’s favour.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold is wanted by Real Madrid

Good chance Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool for Real Madrid

With Alexander-Arnold’s contract expiring in 2025, that makes a deal easier for Real Madrid as Liverpool would be under pressure to sell the defender should he decide not to put pen to paper on a new deal.

In addition to this, Jurgen Klopp has left the Merseyside club, which is the only coach the full-back has ever worked under at Anfield and it means that the Reds are in a period of transition.

The 25-year-old might not want to be part of this and could leave as he has already won everything at the club.

Finally, Alexander-Arnold is very close friends with Jude Bellingham who shun at Real Madrid last season. His England teammate will be in the Liverpool man’s ear about the Spanish team and that could help the Scouser make his mind up.

The only thing that will keep the 25-year-old at Liverpool is his love for the club and the next few weeks will show just how much the right-back wants to help it move forward.

England secured a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 following a dramatic penalty shootout win against Switzerland.

Switzerland took the lead in the 75th minute through Breel Embolo. However, England responded immediately, with Arsenal star Bukayo Saka scoring an incredible goal from outside the box just five minutes later.

England vs Netherlands tickets still available!

The match went to extra time and then to penalties. England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a key save by deny Manuel Akanji.

England’s penalty takers—Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—all scored theirs to send England through to the next round where they will face Netherlands.

Trent’s penalty recorded as second most powerful strike in Euro 2024

The Liverpool star’s match winning penalty has been recorded as the second most powerful strike in the tournament so far.

As per Daily Mail, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s powerful strike was clocked at a maximum speed of 125.6 km/h (78 mph) by Adidas technology used in the tournament’s match ball.

It was the second most powerful strike in the tournament so far. This incredible effort found its way into the top left corner of the net, sealing England’s victory.

The only shot from open play to exceed Alexander-Arnold’s strike was Slovenia captain Erik Janza’s thunderbolt in their 1-1 draw with Denmark, which reached a speed of 128.76 km/h (80 mph).

Despite facing criticism and being used out of position by England manager Gareth Southgate throughout the tournament, Alexander-Arnold rose to the occasion when it mattered most.

His penalty showcased his nerves of steel and technical prowess, ensuring England’s progression to the semi-finals.

And he was not given the nod against Switzerland. He was only brought on moments before the penalties in place of Phil Foden, and was given the responsibility of taking the decisive one.

Arne Slot will not have the ideal preparation for his first season in charge of Liverpool as the Reds are expected to be without as many as nine first-team players for their pre-season tour of the United States.

The Premier League giants’ pre-season consists of three matches in America as they face Real Betis on July 26, Arsenal on July 31 and Man United on August 3; before taking on Sevilla at Anfield on August 11.

Liverpool open up their Premier League campaign six days later away to Ipswich Town on August 17 and preparation for that game will not be ideal for Slot as nine players could miss the entirety of the Merseyside club’s trip to the United States, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Slot’s players have been given three weeks off following the exit of their nations from this summer’s tournaments and the Reds have as many as nine stars still competing at the later stages of Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and the in-form Cody Gakpo will represent the Netherlands when they take on England in the European Championship semi-final on Wednesday, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez part of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad that will oppose them in Germany.

On the other side of the draw, Ibrahima Konate will be part of the France squad taking on Spain for a place in the final of Euro 2024.

HOW TO BUY ENGLAND VS NETHERLANDS TICKETS!

At the Copa America, Darwin Nunez will compete in the semi-finals with Uruguay as Marcelo Bielsa’s men need to overcome an in-form Colombia side for a place in the final which contains Luis Diaz.

In the other semi-final clash, Argentina will have Alexis Mac Allister to help them get past Canada, having already beaten Jesse Marsch’s side earlier in the tournament.

Is this a concern for Arne Slot and Liverpool?

Pre-season is very important for any team as it sets the fitness baseline for the season. For a new manager, it is even more important as it is a key time to establish their ideas and style of play.

Having nine key players missing for the majority of the pre-season will affect Liverpool in some way as Slot will not be able to field his best team until the Reds play Sevilla at Anfield one week before the season begins.

It is not the ideal preparation for the Dutch coach but he will certainly be happy to see some of his players return to Anfield with winners medals from this summer’s tournaments.

Trent Alexander appears to have revealed that one England player didn’t want to take a penalty against Switzerland.

The Three Lions required a penalty shootout to prevail against the Swiss after the game finished 1-1 after extra time.

Breel Embolo had given Switzerland the lead with just 15 minutes remaining, with England once again staring elimination in the face before Bukayo Saka equalised with a superb strike from outside the box five minutes later.

The game went to penalties with England scoring all five of their’s, whilst Manuel Akanji missed the crucial penalty for the Swiss.

Alexander-Arnold scored the winning kick to spark wild celebrations and it appears this generation of England players don’t feel pressure when it comes to penalties as each spot kick was superb.

In the aftermath footage was captured of Alexander-Arnold chatting with what appears to be friends or family, and he’s heard in conversation saying “he didn’t want to take one” in response to a question he was asked.

It remains a mystery to who the player could be and we may never know, but from what the Liverpool star has said it appears one player didn’t want to take a penalty.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the winning penalty to send England through to the semi-finals of Euro 2024 and the Liverpool star was very proud of his teammates after the full-time whistle.

The right-back started the game on the bench but was brought on by Gareth Southgate with five minutes to go as the Three Lions boss had penalties in mind.

That paid off as the final spot-kick fell to Alexander-Arnold after all his teammates scored theirs. The pressure on the Liverpool star was enormous as he sent Yann Sommer the wrong way to send England through to the last four.

The 25-year-old was very proud of his teammates after the full-time whistle and that was evident in his post-match interview with the BBC.

“Incredible. These are the goals and aims we set for ourselves,” Alexander-Arnold said.

“Difficult opponents again, going behind, the team showed a lot of character, a lot of belief, a lot of heart.

“We knew it was going to be tight, we knew we were never going to run away with the game, although that would have been nice.

“Whatever it takes, no matter what, we win and that is all that matters to us.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the winning penalty as England beat Switzerland 5-3 in the shoot out to advance to the semi finals of Euro 2024.

England improved against Switzerland but still made hard work of it and found themselves a goal down after 75 minutes thanks to Breel Embolo.

Gareth Southgate made changes after the goal with Cole Palmer, Luke Shaw and Eberechi Eze coming on, and five minutes later Bukayo Saka levelled the scores with a brilliant strike from outside the box.

Each side had chances in extra time but there was no breakthrough and the game went to penalties.

England had won two of their previous nine shootouts but were perfect from the spot, with Cole Palmer, Ivan Toney, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham putting England in a strong position.

Manuel Akanji missed Switzerland’s first penalty and it turned out to be the crucial miss, and Alexander-Arnold, who came on with penalties in mind was tasked with the winning penalty.

He stood up confidently and sent Yann Sommer the wrong way to send England into the semi finals and still in with a chance of winning the tournament.
