Serie A side Torino have beaten Wolves in the race to sign striker Che Adams this summer, according to reports.

Adams became a free agent following the expiry of his Southampton contract in June.

However, he won’t have to wait long for his latest destination, with BBC Sport reporting that the 28-year-old has agreed on a contract ‘in principle’ with Torino, with a medical set for Monday.

The report also states that Torino have beaten Wolves to Adams’ signature, despite the Midlands club tracking the striker for a number of months.

A 33-time international for Scotland — including playing three times for the Tartan Army at Euro 2024 this summer — Adams heads to Italy off the back of a 2023/24 campaign in which he notched 17 goals and six assists in 46 appearances across all competitions, helping Southampton return to the Premier League via the playoffs.

Adams scored 48 times in 191 appearances overall during his time at Southampton, while he also counts Birmingham and Sheffield United among his former clubs.

Southampton are yet to sign a direct replacement for Adams but will likely retain Adam Armstrong as their starting striker after the 27-year-old registered 24 goals and 13 assists across all competitions last season.

Saints are also reportedly on the verge of re-signing Danny Ings from West Ham United, with the 31-year-old scoring 46 goals during his previous spell at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Euro 2024 gets underway on Friday night as the hosts Germany take on Scotland as part of Group A at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

The Germans are one of the favourites heading into the tournament given that the competition is taking place on home soil, but all is not rosy in Julian Nagelsmann’s garden. There has been a lot of turmoil surrounding Die Mannschaft in recent years having been eliminated from several tournaments earlier than expected.

Huge results against France and the Netherlands recently gave fans of the team a big boost ahead of the Euros, but that has died down again following their performances against Ukraine and Greece in their pre-tournament friendlies.

Nagelsmann’s team will be fully up for their opening game against Scotland as they will want to get their Euro 2024 campaign off to the perfect start in front of a full house in Munich.

The Germans have gone with a starting team of Neuer, Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Mittelstadt, Andrich, Kroos, Gundogan, Musiala, Wirtz and Havertz for their opening game; with many eyes on the Arsenal star to see how he leads the line for his country.

Confirmed Germany team

As for Scotland, Steve Clark’s men will be looking to cause an upset on Friday night and any result would be a good way to start their Euro 2024 campaign.

The Scots face a tough task to get out of Group A but have shown in the past to be a resilient team and have several stars that can step up when needed.

Scotland defeated Gibraltar and drew with Finland in their pre-tournament friendlies with the biggest concern of fans heading into the tournament being their ability to put the ball into the back of the net.

Clark has decided to name a starting 11 of Gunn, Ralston, Hendry, Porteous, Tierney, Robertson, Christie, McGregor, McTominay, McGinn and Adams for their opening game and a result in Munich on Friday night would put Scotland in a good position to make the Round of 16.

Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes has been ruled out of Euro 2024 after suffering an injury in training on Friday.

The 28-year-old — who plays his club football in the Championship with QPR — was a key figure in guiding Scotland to this summer’s tournament, featuring in all eight of their qualifiers and starting in five of them.

To date, Dykes has 36 senior caps to his name, scoring nine goals, one of which came in a 2-1 comeback win away in Norway during Euro 2024 qualifying.

However, the physical striker will not join his teammates in Germany after he was stretchered out of Scotland training on Friday.

“All the boys are gutted for Lyndon, it’s just a freak thing to happen,” Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie told the BBC shortly before Dykes’ injury was publicly confirmed.

“We’ve had a few injuries already, so it’s frustrating.

“He’s been off for a while with the Championship [finishing on 4 May] and I know how hard he worked on his weeks off to prepare for this tournament.

“It’s just one of those things. There’s not much we can say to him at this point. We’re just trying to get behind him and I’m sure he’ll be supporting on.

“It adds another reason for us to be desperate to do well for him and the rest of the country.”

Scotland’s deepening injury crisis

Dykes’ absence means Steve Clarke will be left with Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland as his only out-and-out No.9 options at Euro 2024.

The former enjoyed a productive Championship campaign with Southampton, scoring 16 goals in 40 appearances. However, he has just five goals to his name in 29 caps for Scotland and hasn’t netted for the Tartan Army since June 2022.

The latter, meanwhile, has scored 48 goals for Hearts across the last two Scottish Premiership seasons combined, but has only managed two goals in nine senior caps at international level to date.

And it’s not just at centre-forward where Clarke is facing a dilemma, with Scotland heading to the Euros without full-backs Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson of Brentford and Everton, respectively.

Even more costly could be the absence of Lewis Ferguson, who won the Serie A Midfielder of the Year award for 2023/24 after helping Bologna qualify for the Champions League.

Scotland will face hosts Germany in the opening game of Euro 2024 before taking on Switzerland and Hungary in Group A.

Leeds United are gearing up for a potential summer transfer coup as they set their sights on in-form Southampton striker Che Adams.

Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that the Yorkshire club’s interest remains undeterred, even if they fail to secure promotion to the Premier League this season.

Adams, who has been a standout performer for Southampton this campaign, is poised to become a free agent in the upcoming transfer window, sparking interest from various clubs across Europe, including Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The allure of Adams lies in his impressive goal-scoring record, having netted 14 times in 39 appearances this season. His recent form, with two goals in his last three matches, further underlines his value on the pitch.

Despite enjoying increased playing time under manager Russel Martin at St Mary’s, Adams seems destined to part ways with Southampton in the summer, with a free transfer looming large.

Che Adams is wanted by Leeds United and Wolves.

Leeds United see Che Adams as an improvement on Bamford and Piroe

The criticism directed towards Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe throughout the season has been notable, with concerns often raised about their ability to consistently deliver in front of goal.

Under Farke’s stewardship, the responsibility for providing the finishing touch has frequently fallen to Georginino Rutter and Crysencio Summerville. However, the potential arrival of Che Adams at Elland Road in the summer could offer a significant upgrade for Leeds United.

Even if Adams was utilised as a rotational option alongside Bamford and Piroe, it would undoubtedly strengthen Farke’s squad.

This bolstering of attacking options would be a welcome development, particularly if Leeds finds themselves competing in the Championship next season, showcasing the club’s determination to enhance their squad depth and competitiveness.

But the Whites will have ambitions of making a swift return to the Premier League, and they’re making a good fist of it. They’re currently third in the Championship, a point off the automatic promotion places.

Wolves have reportedly set their sights on Southampton forward Che Adams ahead of the transfer window, as his contract is set to expire, per The Telegraph.

As of now, Adams, 27, will become a free agent in late June as his contract with Southampton expires this season. There’s uncertainty surrounding his future with the Championship promotion contenders as he hasn’t signed an extension yet.

Wolves interested in Southampton striker Che Adams

With 28 caps for Scotland, Adams is an experienced player with 448 appearances to his name. Joining Southampton in 2019 from Sheffield United and Birmingham City, he has scored 43 goals in 180 matches, including 10 this season. Despite Southampton’s relegation last year, the Leicester-born player remained at St Mary’s.

Adams has scored 25 goals in 124 Premier League appearances, and while that isn’t the best goal return, it suggests that the Scotsman is capable of finding the net at the top level on occasions.

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil is rumoured to be an admirer of the striker as he has intentions of adding some much-needed depth to his front line ready for next season.

Russell Martin’s team currently occupies 4th place and is in contention with Leeds United, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town for automatic promotion. So Adams’ primary objective is to secure promotion in the Saints’ first attempt under Martin’s leadership. However, the possibility of playoffs looms, presenting a risky alternative despite their efforts.

Burnley are reportedly interested in acquiring Southampton striker Che Adams in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

The 27-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, could become a free agent next summer. With Adams attracting attention, Burnley are said to be considering a move for the attacker in January to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the campaign. Southampton might face a challenge in retaining Adams if other clubs express interest in securing his services.

Che Adams has been a valuable asset for Southampton, making 19 appearances in all competitions and contributing with four goals in the current season. As Russell Martin aims to guide the Saints back to the Premier League, Adams plays a crucial role in the squad. However, the potential risk of losing him for free in June 2024 looms if Southampton doesn’t secure a transfer or a contract extension.

The forward, a Scotland international with 26 caps, joined Southampton in 2019, and over his career, he has scored 35 goals in 164 appearances. His journey started in non-league football before progressing to Sheffield United and later Birmingham City before his move to Southampton, who were in the Premier League at the time.

Adams attracted interest from teams like Wolves and AFC Bournemouth during the previous summer transfer window, as reported by Football Insider. Despite the speculations, Adams remained with Southampton. The Saints currently occupy the 4th position in the table and recently secured a 4-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in their latest fixture. Adams’ form and contract situation make him a player of interest for potential suitors, with Burnley reportedly considering a move in the upcoming January transfer window.

Vincent Kompany could do with an extra forward in the second half of the campaign because so far they have offered very little firepower – the second-worst scoring tally in the top division. Adding an experienced, yet athletic, option up top could change that.

It has been a positive start to the season for Crystal Palace with Roy Hodgson’s team sitting in ninth position in the Premier League and that comes after failing to sign a new striker ahead of the new campaign.

The Eagles failed to bring one in over the summer despite losing their biggest attacking threat in the form of Wilfried Zaha but Odsonne Édouard has stepped up for the London club scoring four goals across Palace’s opening five matches.

According to the Evening Standard, a star Crystal Palace were interested in signing over the summer was Southampton’s Che Adams, who signed for the Saints for just £15m in 2019.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones has suggested that internally, Palace have no regrets about not bringing Adams to Selhurst Park and that the London club are comfortable with what they have.

Jones said: “Speaking to people around Palace they’re okay with the situation in terms of not getting Che Adams .

“Obviously he was someone they did have interest in but they feel like they’re actually reasonably well set for the season. They’re quite comfortable in their performances.

“You know, they’re obviously not setting the world on fire but there’s every confidence that they can finish close to mid-table which is fine by the standards they have set for them. So I do wonder if Crystal Palace will still go back into the market in January for a forward player. But at the moment they’re saying no regrets over over Che Adams.”

Everton are hoping to sign the Southampton striker Che Adams this summer.

The Toffees need to add more attacking quality and depth to their side and the 27-year-old could prove to be a quality acquisition.

A report from the Athletic claims that Everton have already submitted a £12 million offer for the striker and there is confidence between both parties that a deal could be done.

Adams is in the final year of his contract with Southampton and the recently relegated club will not want to lose him on a free transfer next year. It makes sense for them to cash in on him now and invest the proceeds into the playing squad.

Everton have been fighting relegation battles over the last two seasons and they will be aiming to finish closer to the top of the season. They need to add more goals to their side and Adams should prove to be a useful acquisition.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had his fair share of injury problems over the past year and the England international striker clearly needs more support in the attack. Adams could form a quality partnership with Calvert-Lewin in the attack.

Adams scored 10 goals in the Premier League last season and he could make an immediate impact at Goodison Park. The 27-year-old will not want to stay in the Championship and the opportunity to move to the top flight will be tempting for him.

West Ham United have been handed a major boost ahead of their Premier League showdown against Southampton.

The two clubs are currently involved in the relegation battle and the match is being dubbed a relegation six-pointer. A win over Southampton could be a major boost for the Hammers and the Saints have now been dealt a major injury blow.

Star striker Che Adams picked up a knock during the international break with Scotland and his absence would be a devastating blow for Southampton.

The Saints are currently at the bottom of the league table and they will hope to have their star player back in action soon.

Southampton are already without the services of Jan Bednarek and Armel Bella-Kotchap due to injuries.

It will be interesting to see if West Ham can take advantage of the situation and grind out a priceless three points over Southampton. The two sides will meet on the 2nd of April.

Meanwhile, Leeds United were handed a major injury blow as well with star forward Wilfried Gnonto going off the pitch with an ankle injury. Defender Max Wober picked up a muscle injury during the international break as well.

The Hammers have had a dismal campaign in the league but they have impressed in the European competitions. David Moyes’s side are currently in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa conference league.

Leeds United could increase their chances of signing Southampton forward Che Adams this summer as long as they stay up.

Southampton are one of the favourites to be relegated at the moment, whereas Leeds could probably still save themselves with a slight improvement in the next few games.

Discussing how this might impact transfers at both clubs, Pete O’Rourke told Give Me Sport that it could boost Leeds’ chances of raiding the Saints for Adams.

“Yeah, we obviously know Leeds have had a long-term interest in Adams. They tried previously to sign him but he’s remained at Southampton,” O’Rourke said.

“A lot will depend on if Leeds stay up. If they stay up and Southampton go down, it will increase their chances of luring Adams away.”
