Tottenham have no plans to sell Yves Bissouma ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as Ange Postecoglou considers the 27-year-old a key part of his plans in North London.

The Mali international was used in the Australian’s midfield two during the previous campaign and struck up an effective partnership with Pape Matar Sarr at Spurs. The duo are likely to retain their roles for the upcoming season and therefore, Tottenham have no plans to sell Bissouma.

According to Football Insider, Postecoglou has been impressed by the midfielder so far in pre-season and has big plans for the player going forward.

Bissouma will be out to impress with Spurs next season as his contract at the club runs out in 2026 and will be performing for a new and improved deal. The signing of Archie Gray has also increased the competition at the Premier League team as the English talent is a huge prospect for the future.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is close to finalising a £17m move to Marseille but will initially join the French club on loan, while Oliver Skipp’s future in North London is also in doubt.

The midfield options at Tottenham could look a lot different this season but it is certain that Bissouma will be one of them.

Big season ahead for Yves Bissouma at Tottenham

Bissouma has been with Tottenham since the summer of 2022 having made the switch from Brighton. The midfielder’s first season at the North London club was underwhelming but last season showed what the Mali international is capable of.

The 27-year-old featured in 28 Premier League games for Spurs and only missed the other ten due to injury, suspension or international duty.

The former Brighton star is liked by Postecoglou at Tottenham and it will now be interesting to see if Spurs offer him a new deal in the near future.

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King believes midfielder Yves Bissouma could be on his way out this summer.

With Spurs actively pursuing midfield reinforcements, including Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, the future of some of their current players is uncertain.

Tottenham have already secured the signing of promising youngster Archie Gray from Leeds United.

The club is also expected to offload a few midfielders, including Giovani Lo Celso and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Another player reportedly on the market is Yves Bissouma. Previous reports have indicated that Tottenham would consider bids for Bissouma if the right offer comes along.

Bryan King gives insight on Bissouma’s future at Tottenham

Bryan King has suggested that the addition of Archie Gray could signal the end of Bissouma’s tenure at Tottenham.

Speaking to Tottenham News, King stated:

“I think Postecoglou needs to decide who his best midfielders are, especially with Gray now joining the club.”

“James Maddison will of course be one of them, and of Pape Matar Sarr and Bissouma, I prefer Sarr.

“I think if the right offer comes in for Bissouma, I would imagine it will be considered. Whether or not Bissouma would want to leave is a different question altogether.”

Bissouma’s time at Spurs coming to an end?

The recent additions of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray provide Tottenham with greater depth in midfield.

However, if Bissouma is to be sold, the club will likely need to secure at least one more top-class midfielder to strengthen the squad.

As Tottenham navigates the summer transfer window, the fate of Yves Bissouma remains a topic of interest. With new signings and potential departures, the club’s midfield could see significant changes before the start of the new season.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma was recently attacked and mugged outside a luxury hotel in France.

The incident occurred as the Mali international and his wife arrived at the five-star Majestic Barriere hotel in Cannes last weekend.

According to a report from The Sun, two hooded assailants ambushed Bissouma as he exited his car around 4 am on Sunday.

The attackers sprayed tear gas in his face and stole his £260,000 watch. The couple, left in shock, tried to seek refuge inside the hotel but found the doors locked. The assailants swiftly fled the scene.

Bissouma and his wife had planned to spend several days at the French resort but returned to England later that Sunday after the incident.

Tottenham are monitoring Bissouma’s well-being closely

Tottenham have acknowledged the incident and assured that they will continue to monitor Bissouma and his family’s well-being.

Tottenham issued a statement expressing their concern and support for Bissouma (via The Sun):

“We are aware of the incident involving Yves Bissouma in Cannes. Our primary concern is for Yves and his family, and we will continue to monitor their well-being closely.”

Spurs signed Bissouma on a four-year deal in the summer of 2022, securing him for €29.2 million from Brighton.

The former Lille midfielder was a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s team last season, starting 26 of his 28 Premier League appearances and playing over 2000 minutes.

Tottenham will be without two of their key players when they face Manchester City in the Premier League this week.

This match is a crucial one for the title race with a draw or a win for Spurs could work in the favour of their arch rivals Arsenal.

If Man City lose points in this match, Arsenal could win the league on the last day of the season by beating Everton.

However, Spurs will be without Yves Bissouma and Richarlison for the visit of Man City.

Under Postecoglou, Bissouma flourished early in the 2023–24 season.

After returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, when he got malaria, Bissouma has found it difficult to reach the same heights.

Nevertheless, he has started Tottenham’s past three games and received plaudits for his performance in their 4-2 loss to Liverpool.

The Australian coach revealed to SPURSPLAY before Man City’s Tuesday night trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that Bissouma had suffered a knee injury and would not be playing against the Citizens.

He said:

“Unfortunately, Biss picked up a knee injury in the last game and will miss the last two.”

Postecoglou also said that Richarlison would be out until the upcoming season due to a calf injury he is nursing, and that the forward will not play in this year’s Copa America.

“Not good, he’ll miss the next two games. Nothing serious,” Postecoglou said on Richarlison.

“Other than that everyone who was available is available.”

The Spurs boss have options to replace the two players with Rodrigo Bentancur, Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp all good enough to play for Bissouma.

Tottenham are fighting for a top four finish

While club captain Heung-min Son will play upfront and lead the attack for the North London club.

Spurs have a lot to play for as they could still qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four.

They would be hoping Liverpool beat Aston Villa and then with a win against Pep Guardiola’s team, they can take the fight for top four to the last day of the season.

Despite preparing to make “huge” changes in the summer, one player will continue at Spurs in the 2024-25 season.

Yves Bissouma, 27, has had to wait on his chances at Spurs following his £35 million transfer from Brighton two years ago but the midfielder is finally coming into his own.

Playing a key role under Ange Postecoglou, the Mali international has enjoyed a great upturn and is now looking like the player he was hyped up to be a few seasons ago.

Spurs transfer news: Yves Bissouma untouchable ahead of summer window

And echoing just how important Bissoumais is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Football Insider claims the 27-year-old is one of only a few first-team players to “survive the axe” this summer as Daniel Levy prepares to make wholesale changes.

With his contract due to expire in 2026, Postecoglou may feel the off-season is the right time for the club to open extension talks.

And although Bissouma’s future is safe for now, the same can’t be said for every midfielder.

Among those reportedly in line to depart is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has mounting interest from clubs in Italy. Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil are also set to leave London after five and three years, respectively.

Despite having an incredible start to the season Yves Bissouma’s future at Tottenham has been questioned after a noticeable drop-off in form.

Spurs look set to miss out on Champions League qualification as they currently sit seven points behind Aston Villa although they hold one game in hand over Unai Emery’s men.

After losing back-to-back London derbies, the atmosphere around the club is quite bleak and is in stark contrast to that of the start of the season.

It looked like the Australian manager had cracked the code in regards to his midfield with it all revolving around Bissouma at the base.

The Ivory Coast international was compared to the likes of Declan Rice in Septemeber but is now struggling to get anywhere close to that form.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, journalist Tom Alnutt claimed that he wouldn’t be surprised if he were to leave North London.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Bissouma was let go.” He said via TBR Football.

“I’ve heard a couple of whispers about Bissouma that he’s not the right fit for Ange in terms of his personality and in terms of his play.”

Spurs must get results against Manchester City and Liverpool if they want to stand a chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Mali manager Eric Chelle has found himself at odds with midfielder Yves Bissouma following the player’s omission from Mali’s recent squad selection.

During the last international break of the season, several Tottenham players departed to represent their respective national teams. However, Bissouma was notably excluded from Mali’s squad.

According to Football London, The player expressed his frustration over the decision, and reportedly unfollowed the country’s football association on Instagram and removed all references to playing for his country from his social media account.

Mali’s head coach, Eric Chelle, addressed the media regarding Bissouma’s omission, stating that while the midfielder deserves to be selected, he opted for other players whom he views as more reliable options for the current squad and the way he set the team up.

Chelle emphasised that Bissouma’s absence from the squad does not preclude him from future call-ups. He said (via Football London):

“Like many players, he deserves to be selected, it’s just a choice. In my diamond there are players right now who are slightly safer. That doesn’t mean he won’t be called again.”

Bissouma was involved with Mali just last month during the Africa Cup of Nations, where he bravely played through malaria as a substitute in Mali’s quarter-final defeat against the Ivory Coast. Despite his health challenges, he started two games in the tournament.

Yves Bissouma has been one of Ange’s most important players this season

Bissouma did not have the best of starts at Tottenham as he struggled under Conte in his first season at Tottenham.

However, under Ange Postecoglou, he has established himself as one of the key players in the team. Him along with Pape Matar Sarr have formed a successful duo in the centre of the pitch.

He has made 20 Premier League appearances and starting in 19 of them this season.

Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Fulham in the Premier League last night.

The result will come as a major blow for Tottenham in the race for Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, former manager Tim Sherwood has now highlighted the poor performance of midfielder Yves Bissouma during the game. Sherwood also pointed out that Ryan Mason, who is a part of the Tottenham coaching staff, highlighted during the game that Bissouma was leaving spaces for Fulham players to exploit during the game.

His poor positional play allowed Fulham to take advantage and score their second goal of the game.

“You can’t leave the middle of the park like that,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions (16/03/24 at 7:45 pm).

“Maddison is too advanced forward. Bissouma is nowhere to be seen and is over this side. Sarr is over this side.

“He has got the whole park to himself. He (Ryan Mason) is pointing it out because it’s obvious to everyone. The boys have to recognise that on the pitch. The manager can’t do everything.”

The 27-year-old is undoubtedly a key player for Tottenham and he has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the league. However, his performance was below par against Fulham and it remains to be seen whether he can bounce back strongly.

Tottenham will need their key players in top form if they want to secure Champions League qualification and Bissouma is certainly an important member of the starting lineup. He will be aware of his mediocre performance and he will be determined to bounce back strongly in the upcoming matches.

Are Newcastle United really considering sacking Eddie Howe?

There have been a lot of rumours recently about Newcastle United’s owners sacking Eddie Howe. Speculation has mounted since the Magpies were eliminated from the Champions League after losing their final group game against AC Milan.

However, although their European journey coming to an end was disappointing, I am not aware of any plans to part ways with Howe.

I can say for sure the club are very happy with their manager. Everybody is pulling in the same direction and working toward the same goal. I have not heard any suggestions that Howe will be told to leave Newcastle United.

Chelsea are really worried about Reece James

Reece James suffered another injury during last weekend’s 2-0 defeat against Everton. It’s his hamstring, again, and surgery is looking likely.

A final decision on whether or not the full-back will undergo surgery will be made within the next few days — that’s the plan internally.

Make no mistake though, for sure Chelsea are worried. They want James to be in the best possible condition to perform at the highest levels — the player wants the same, but this is not the case at the moment.

Chelsea are in talks with medical specialists about how to help and prevent this issue from becoming an even bigger problem. Everybody hopes James can come back even stronger.

How has Ange Postecoglou got the best out of Yves Bissouma?

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has spoken about his recent experience of visiting Spurs for three days of training. He spoke of how well the squad trained and how much respect the players have for Ange Postecoglou.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of Postecoglou’s arrival in the summer has been defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma. The Malian was shown a red card against Nottingham Forest on Friday but the midfielder is having a great season overall, and the main reason for this is his manager.

Postecoglou has taken the same approach at Spurs, and with Bissouma in particular, that he has with many other players during his career. He is very direct and has trusted the team since day one — Postecoglou knows how to make the players feel important and this is exactly what he’s done with Bissouma. It hasn’t just been about the sporting side — the human aspect has also been key for the player and manager’s relationship.

Victor Osimhen’s new Napoli contract is at the final stages

Good news for Napoli fans…

Not only did Victor Osimhen score and provide a fantastic assist against Cagliari on Saturday night, but the striker is closing in on a new contract.

The club and player’s lawyers are preparing documents to check the final clauses and details of the new deal.

It’s more than close now — they’re working on the very last points. All the details are confirmed. The deal will be until 2026 and will contain a release clause.

In other news…

Danny Ings – Although leaving West Ham in January is a concrete possibility, it is still too early to talk about where he could move to. I am not aware of any clubs in particular who are preparing to approach but for sure he is one to watch over the next few weeks.

Erik Ten Hag – Manchester United are preparing to play Liverpool later today and I know a lot of fans want to know if Erik Ten Hag will be sacked like previous managers if the Red Devils suffer a damaging defeat. I don’t have any information at all about this. No signals are coming from United that this could happen — none at all, actually. It is a normal situation, and like Ten Hag has said — no changes at all.

My personal thoughts on the situation also remain the same — the problem is not Ten Hag, there are many things to sort out at Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou has built a strong relationship with Yves Bissouma.

Despite moving to Spurs from Brighton and Hove Albion 18 months ago in a deal worth £35 million (Sky Sports), the 27-year-old had struggled to become a regular first-team starter — that was until Postecoglou took charge in the summer anyway.

The no-nonsense Australian was tasked with keeping the side firing despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, and although that seemed impossible, to many fans’ surprise, virtually every player has benefitted from his arrival — perhaps none more than Bissouma though.

The Malian midfielder started just 10 Premier League games last season — five less than he has this campaign — and it’s still only December!

And according to leading football journalist and CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano, it has been his manager’s ‘human’ approach that has got the best out of the former Brighton star.

“One of the biggest beneficiaries of Postecoglou’s arrival in the summer has been Yves Bissouma,” he wrote in his exclusive SubStack column.

“The Malian was shown a red card against Nottingham Forest on Friday but the midfielder is having a great season overall, and the main reason for this is his manager.

“Postecoglou has taken the same approach at Spurs, and with Bissouma in particular, that he has with many other players during his career.

As Romano rightly pointed out — Friday night’s red card, which was his second of the season, away to Nottingham Forest means Bissouma will miss his side’s next four domestic matches. He could be missing for longer due to the African Cup of Nations starting in January too.
