Newcastle United have shown strong interest in signing AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, according to recent reports from the Italian media. The German defender has caught the eye of the Magpies, who are keen to bolster their defensive options this summer.

Reports indicate that the two clubs have engaged in discussions regarding a potential transfer.

According to Sport Mediaset, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle is determined to secure Thiaw, a highly-rated young talent valued at around £25 million.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Thiaw has seen them propose various options, including offering full-back Kieran Trippier as part of a deal. However, AC Milan were not interested in including Trippier in the transfer.

AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has been linked with a move away from the Italian club in recent weeks.

According to a report from Calciomercato, West Ham United are keen on signing the player and the Hammers are prepared to offer €20 million for him.

West Ham are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements and the 22-year-old German defender could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition. The Hammers are competing in the UEFA Europa League this season and they managed to win the Conference League last year. They will be hoping to compete in European football on a regular basis now and they need to sign better players.

Thiaw has already shown his quality in the Italian league and he is certainly good enough to play in the Premier League as well.

West Ham United expected to submit offer for 22-year-old German defender

West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing the AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.

According to Sky Journalist Manuele Baiocchini, Real Madrid are also keen on signing the defender and it remains to be seen whether the Hammers manage to win the race for his signature.

Thiaw joined the Italian club AC Milan in a deal with around €8.6 million last summer and they will look to make a substantial profit on him if the likes of West Ham and Real Madrid come for him.

West Ham could certainly use defensive reinforcements and Thiaw would be a quality acquisition. Apparently, West Ham are close to submitting an offer to sign him and it remains to be seen whether Milan are prepared to sanction his departure midway through the campaign.

Baiocchini said (h/t SportWitness): “The AC Milan player who has transfer offers from abroad is Malick Thiaw: in Spain they talk about an interest from Real Madrid, but at the moment what we understand is that the closest offer to arrive is that of West Ham. Clearly, Thiaw could be an incredible capital gain for Milan, he was taken at €8m, he could be worth many times more.”

Milan youngster, Malick Thiaw, despite having only recently signed with the Italian giants, remains the subject of transfer speculation.

Both Real Madrid and West Ham have been credited with an interest in the player with Claret and Hugh citing reports of the two club’s pursuit.

It’s obvious why both the La Liga giants and the east Londoners would be interested in the 22-year-old, given that he’s not only adept at playing the centre-back role, but he can also deliver high quality performances if he’s playing at right-back or in defensive midfield.

That kind of versatility is rare these days and it doesn’t come cheap, but both clubs will have to sit tight in any event for now.

‘I don’t have any concrete confirmation either on a bid from Los Blancos for Milan’s Malick Thiaw,’ Fabrizio Romano wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.

‘He is very happy at Milan and there are no discussions with any club (including West Ham) at this stage.

‘Milan have just paid €6/7m for the player who is doing fantastic so it’d take an important proposal to let him leave. Milan don’t want to mention a price now and 100% no chance of anything happening in January.’

Milan surely won’t be happy at the thought of losing a player that’s certainly gaining admirers after a string of superb performances that have helped the Rossoneri to top the Serie A table.

The player himself has kept his own counsel on the matter to date which is arguably the wisest course of action given that his words could be taken out of context or misconstrued.

For now, he can concentrate on giving his best for Milan without the distraction of a move elsewhere.

Tuesday night’s Champions League semi-final second leg is a must-win for both sides, with Rafa Leao strengthening a Milan side that have it all to do against Internazionale.

In last week’s first-leg, a fast start from the Neroazzurri saw them two goals to the good to silence the mostly AC Milan populated San Siro.

With Inter holding the advantage both in goals terms and now effectively being the ‘home’ side in the same stadium, it’s going to take a monumental effort from the Rossoneri to come back.

However, they really did miss Leao’s pace and creativity, and that’s something that Inter need to guard against, particularly in the opening exchanges.

Along with Leao, Malick Thiaw and Junior Messias come in for Alexis Saelemaekers, Simon Kjaer and Ismael Bennacer.

Simone Inzhagi’s side could live to regret not scoring a third goal last week given how on top they were during the opening 45 minutes, and they can’t afford to sit back and invite Milan on to them.

The highly-rated 20-year-old has shone in the Bundesliga and looks like he surely has a big future in the game, with Liverpool said to be long-time admirers of the player.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, West Ham are now making Thiaw a top target this January, and the youngster has spoken about how flattering it is when big names show interest in him.

Liverpool have done a great job of getting by when you consider the amount of defensive injuries they’ve suffered this year, but it looks like it would make sense to add at least one more player in January.

They looked light on numbers at the start of the year and another couple of injuries could be an absolute disaster, but any new signing would need to be someone who won’t expect to start every game when the stars start to return.

That suggests they would move for a veteran defender or an emerging youngster, and a report from German outlet Bild has indicated that they are looking at Schalke youngster Malick Thiaw.
