Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan was allegedly racially abused during a training game against Serie A side Como in Marbella.

Gary O’Neil’s side were playing Como, who are now managed by Cesc Fabregas at their pre-season training camp, but things descended into chaos in the second half with Hwang accusing a Como defender of racially abusing him.

In the aftermath Daniel Podence, who spent last season on loan at Olympiakos was sent off for punching an opponent in unsavoury scenes, with Wolves winning the game 1-0.

Hwang allegedly racially abused in training game

The South Korean insisted the game continued despite having the option to leave the pitch, and O’Neil confirmed after the match that Hwang had told the referee about the incident, whilst Wolves were going to file a complaint with Uefa.

“Channy heard a racist remark which is really disappointing,” O’Neil told the Express & Star.

“You could see a coming together and Channy was clearly upset by it, as were the lads, you could hear a lot of them trying to comfort Channy and stick up for him.

Wolves vs Como training match
Hwang was allegedly racially abused against Como.

“It’s really disappointing that it happened, that we have to talk about it and that it impacted the game, not ideal and things like that shouldn’t be around.

“I spoke to Channy and asked if he wanted us to take the team off and he didn’t, he wanted the team to continue. I asked him if he wanted to come off and he didn’t, he was keen to continue.

“Fair play to him, to suffer something like that and still put the team first, shows what he is to us and how important he is to us. He’ll get our full support and we’ll pick him up in the morning and make sure he’s ok.”

On Podence’s red card O’Neil admitted the 28-year-old went to far with his actions.

“Daniel was then sent off for his part in sticking up for him, which obviously went too far,” he added.

“Daniel’s apologised for his part in it already. I understand that he’s sticking up for his mate and we need that, a group that’s together and when one of us gets hurt we give them our backing.

“But obviously we need to make sure that stays the right side of the line and we don’t cross that line.”

Hwang’s future at Wolves is uncertain with Marseille having a £21m bid rejected for the striker with Wolves believed to want more £28m.

Podence on the other hand has just one year remaining on his Wolves contract, with Olympiakos keen to bring him back to Greece.

Manchester United “really like” Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes according to journalist Ben Jacobs, as the club look to bolster their midfield options this summer.

With the managerial situation at Old Trafford sorted United are now looking to strengthen a squad which despite winning the FA Cup finished eighth in the Premier League and got knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage.

United need to strengthen in several areas, but with a reported starting budget of as little as £50m they will need to sell to significantly increase it.

United really like Joao Gomes

The Red Devils are set to sell Casemiro this summer with the Brazilian attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League, whilst it appears unlikely Sofyan Amrabat’s move will be made permanent after his loan spell last season.

United will therefore need to dip into the market to bolster their ranks in the middle of the park and they have recently been linked with West Ham’s Edson Alvarez and Gomes of Wolves.

Jacobs has been speaking about United’s pursuit of a midfielder, with the club looking to target players with Premier League experience.

Joao Gomes celebrates scoring for Wolves.
Man United are believed to be admirers of Gomes.

“We also know that Joao Neves, the young, 19-year-old midfielder, is appreciated by Manchester United and also Arsenal, but Benfica expect a €120m release clause to be paid, so that one is a bit more problematic,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“There’s Joao Gomes at Wolves, another name that Manchester United really like, and there’s Edson Alvarez at West Ham.

“So what we’re sort of seeing predominantly is a recruitment approach in a lot of positions at Manchester United towards proven Premier League quality.”

Gomes joined Wolves in January 2023 from Brazilian club Flamengo, and he made 38 appearances in all competition last season, scoring two goals.

The 23-year-old is under contract at Molineux until 2028 having signed a five year deal when he arrived at the club, and is believed to be available for around £40m.

West Ham’s opening bid of £25m for Wolves captain Max Kilman is set to be rejected with the Midlands outfit wanting to keep hold of the defender according to reports.

It appears former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is plotting a raid on his former club as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

The Hammers are looking for reinforcements in both defensive and attacking areas as they aim to improve on last season’s ninth place finish, and get back into European competition.

Wolves set to reject West Ham’s £25m Kilman offer

The Telegraph report that West Ham are prioritising defensive additions this summer, with their opening bid of £25m for Kilman set to be rejected.

The report adds that any potential deal for the 27-year-old could cost up to £45m, whilst Wolves turned down a £30m bid from Napoli last year.

Following interest from the Serie A outfit, Kilman ended up signing a new long term contract with Wolves until 2028.

West Ham are keen to sign Wolves captain Kilman this summer.

Lopetegui knows Kilman and made him club captain during his time in charge of Wolves in the 2022/2023 campaign, with The Telegraph adding that the Spaniard rates him highly and is keen to bring him to West Ham.

Wolves won’t want to lose their captain, but the report adds the club are aware that a major sale would give them greater manoeuvrability in the transfer market.

Kilman joined Wolves on a free transfer from Maidenhead United in the summer of 2018, and has gone on to make 151 appearances for the club scoring three goals.

The Hammers have been busy this summer and have already added Brazilian teenager Luis Guilherme to their ranks from Palmeiras.

West Ham are also keen to sign a striker this summer and have been linked with the likes of Serhou Guirassy and Youssef En-Nesyri, but as of yet nothing seems particularly advanced in regards to a new forward.

Liverpool aren’t actively pursuing a move for Wolves star Pedro Neto this summer according to reports.

The Reds are looking to back new manager Arne Slot in the window, and will want to give the Dutchman the best chance to make his first season at Anfield a successful one.

It’s set to be a busy summer at Anfield with the future of a number of key players still up in the air including Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah as a new era dawns on the red side of Merseyside.

Liverpool not pursuing Pedro Neto

Neto impressed for Wolves in the early part of the season, but injuries disrupted his campaign and  he finished with two goals and nine assists from 20 Premier League appearances.

With doubts over the future of both Salah and Luis Diaz, the Reds may look to strengthen in the attacking areas, and have been linked with a move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo.

Neto is attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

One player who seeming won’t be making the move to Merseyside this summer is Neto, with journalist Ben Jacobs telling GIVEMESPORT Liverpool aren’t interested in pursuing a deal due to the 24-year-old’s injury record.

“Liverpool and Pedro Neto have been linked, but I’m told that’s not one that they are necessarily looking at, at the moment, partly because Wolves are going to insist on £60 million plus,” Jacobs said.

“And also the player’s injury record at that price is maybe putting off Liverpool.”

Neto joined Wolves from Portuguese club Braga in 2019, but such have been his injury problems he’s only made 111 Premier League appearances for the club over five seasons, scoring just 11 goals.

Liverpool could add a centre back to their squad given Joel Matip’s departure, whilst they may look to strengthen the midfield with Slot reportedly and admirer of Porto’s Alan Varela.

Arsenal are looking at left back targets as they think about replacing Oleksandr Zinchenko, with Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri reportedly a target.

Ait-Nouri has emerged as a target for some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs given his form for Wolves this season.

The 22-year-old has matched his total goal contributions from last season, with Gary O’Neil’s side still having four games left to play.

Arsenal keen on Wolves star Ait-Nouri

Ait-Nouri has previously been linked with a move to Chelsea, and has reportedly been recommended as a possible signing for Liverpool.

The left back has made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Ait-Nouri could leave Wolves this summer, with Arsenal interested.

According to TBR Football the Gunners, who currently have Zinchenko as their main left back, and Jakub Kiwior who can fill in there, are looking to upgrade in that position.

TBR Football claims that Mikel Arteta’s side have been watching the Wolves star for a number of months, and are doing their research on the player.

There were reports linking Arsenal with a move for the left back in January, but nothing materialised as the player remained in the Midlands.

The report adds the defender is also on Chelsea’s shortlist, and that Manchester City are keeping an eye on the Algerian.

Ait-Nouri is only under contract until 2026, and Wolves will be bracing themselves for bids this summer, given the player has just two years remaining on his deal.

Wolves’ asking price hasn’t been revealed, but they are in line to make a profit on a player they signed for just under £10m following a successful loan spell in the 2020-2021 season.

Ait-Nouri made a name for himself at French side Angers, but the Algeria international has now cemented himself as a Premier League star.

The Algerian’s agent is Jorge Mendes, who will no doubt be keen to find the best solution to progress Ait-Nouri’s career.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 1-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers in this afternoon’s 3 pm kick-off.

It comes just three days after Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup in the Round of 16 by Championship high-flyers Sheffield United.

They remain in the Premier League top four but are four points behind third-placed Manchester United having played two more matches.

In Europe, Antonio Conte’s side must overturn a one-goal deficit against reigning Serie A champions AC Milan if they want any chance of progressing in the Champions League. The second leg of the tie takes place in North London on Wednesday.

Wolves’ fight for survival

On the other hand, Wolves are now six points clear of the bottom three after spending several weeks nearing the dreaded drop. They are in 13th place on 27 points, though they have played one more game than all of the teams below them.

They face Newcastle next, whilst Tottenham will play Nottingham Forest next weekend.

Liverpool and Chelsea are set to face a summer battle for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Nunes.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have entered the race for the Portugal international, who could become available in the summer for a fee of £44 million after completing just one season with the Midlands side.

Both sides in need of a strengthened midfield

Liverpool came close to overseeing a deal for the midfielder last year but were ultimately unable to reach an agreement with Sporting CP. They will reportedly reignite their pursuit at the end of the season, though Jude Bellingham remains the priority. Midfield reinforcements are crucial for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Blues could meet Wolves’ asking price and then some, given their recent extravagant spending. However, the final say will be up to Nunes and he will want to be a regular starter wherever he ends up. Chelsea likely see him as a replacement for the injury-prone N’Golo Kante, with Jorginho also rumoured to leave in the summer.

Pep Guardiola has named his starting lineup for Manchester City’s afternoon clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad.

A notable omission is Phil Foden, who has not been included in the matchday squad at all. It is currently unconfirmed whether this is due to injury or the manager’s preference.

Joao Cancelo will start the game on the bench, with 18-year-old Rico Lewis being rewarded with a start after an impressive display against Tottenham Hotspur midweek.

City are on the back of a 4-2 win

Guardiola was left furious after the Spurs win and demanded more from his players post-match after they conceded two goals in close proximity towards the closing stages of the first half. They were forced to complete a second-half comeback, similar to that of the last game of the season against Aston Villa.

A win can take City to within two points of league leaders Arsenal, who face Manchester United this afternoon in a highly-anticipated clash at the Emirates.

Four Premier League fixtures played out tonight with each match pivotal to the top-four race or relegation battle.

Southampton vs Nottingham Forest

Steve Cooper’s side picked up their first away win of the season with a 1-0 win at Saint Mary’s Stadium. The only goal of the game was through Taiwo Awoniyi and the crucial three points moved Forest out of the bottom three and into 15th place. Consequently, Southampton have dropped to rock bottom of the table after overseeing their sixth consecutive league loss.

Leeds United vs West Ham

A four-goal thriller saw two sides desperately trying to avoid relegation score two apiece. It ended 2-2 at Elland Road with goals from Wilfried Gnonto and Rodrigo for the Yorkshire side, whilst Lucas Paqueta bagged his first Irons goal with a penalty before Gianluca Scamacca marked his third of the season.

Leeds now sit 14th and David Moyes’ side are 17th.

Aston Villa vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Both Midlands teams are adjusting to new management with Unai Emery taking charge of Aston Villa before the international break, and Julen Lopetegui overseeing his first matches in December. The match ended 1-1 at Villa Park with Daniel Podence and Danny Ings on the scoresheet.

Wolves remain in the relegation zone in 19th. Villa are in 11th place.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur

Another four-goal thriller saw Spurs thrash Palace at Selhurst Park. It was the exact reaction Antonio Conte would have expected from his side following their dismal performance against Aston Villa at the weekend. A brace from Harry Kane and goals from Matt Doherty and Heung-Min Son sealed a top-quality performance and one that was needed in their quest to finish in the top four.

The result left Spurs in fifth place and Palace in 12th.
