Bayern Munich defender Eric Dier has revealed that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou does no tactical work in training.
Dier, who spent ten years at Tottenham left the north London club in January to join German giants Bayern Munich.
The 30 year old who has been capped by England 49 times was a key player for Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte during his time at Spurs as he amassed 365 appearances for the club.
Postecoglou does no tactical work in training?
Postecoglou arrived at Tottenham from Celtic last summer and didn’t take a shine to Dier with the defender only playing four times in the Premier League as he tumbled down the pecking order.
In an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap the former Spurs man opened up on his time under the Australian and revealed what is was like to work with Conte.
“Interestingly, he really doesn’t do any tactical work in training”, Dier said.
“What he does is, every single training drill from Monday to Friday is drawn up to represent the way that he wants to play.”
On Conte the Bayern defender added: “Conte, I could do it blind, but that was a lot of tactical work Monday to Friday, a lot of ten versus zero, walkthroughs, you were so well drilled, it would be engrained in you.”
Dier didn’t win anything during his time in north London with Spurs twice finishing runners up in the League Cup and losing the 2019 Champions League final to Liverpool.
Under Pochettino they perhaps should have won the Premier League but faded away after strong starts in both the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons.
“It’s going to be something that I live with for the rest of my life that we didn’t win anything at Tottenham, and there are times where we should have” , the England international added.
“The year Leicester City won the title, we could have won it, the same with the year after when Chelsea won it, so you’re always fighting against that.”
Dier has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season in what has been a disappointing campaign for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
