Pre-season is already underway for Leeds United and their Championship rivals, and Daniel Farke will be looking to hit the ground running once the league season begins in earnest.

The all whites came close to going back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but after dropping into the Play-Offs, they were unable to get past Southampton at Wembley in a keenly contested final.

Connor Roberts would relish a return to Leeds United

With that match now firmly in the past, focus has to be on moving forward and getting up automatically at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

As long as they don’t lose too many of their star players, Leeds will be one of the favourites for promotion, though they will need to add to their squad before the first game of the season to ensure that they have strength in depth.

One player who would apparently be keen to return to the club is Burnley’s Connor Roberts.

“Incoming, I was looking at Connor Roberts who as I understand it would really like to come to Leeds if there is no future for him at Burnley, and now they’re in the same division anyway I know which club I’d prefer,” BBC Leeds journalist, Adam Pope, said on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast.

“I really like Connor Roberts as well, I think he’s got a really good Leeds mentality, I think he’s got aggression, I think he bought into it. A little bit of injury just stopped him from pushing and getting a few more minutes.”

Leeds United are currently not planning to re-sign Burnley defender Connor Roberts, as reported by journalist Graham Smyth on the Inside Elland Road podcast.

Despite Roberts impressing during his loan spell with the club last season, Leeds have not indicated any imminent move to bring the Welshman back.

During his loan stint at Leeds last season, Connor Roberts made a significant impact, featuring in 12 matches, scoring one goal, and providing one assist.

His performances prompted speculations regarding a permanent move but the plans seem to be on hold for now.

Leeds United are linked with a move for Burnley’s Connor Roberts.

Another player who spent time on loan at Leeds last season was Joe Rodon. He played a key role in their push for promotion last season.

Both the player and the club wanted a permanent move to happen following the successful loan spell. There were other Premier League clubs interested in signing him as well, but the Welsh defender ultimately joined Daniel Farke’s side.

Leeds are still in need of bolstering their defensive ranks, particularly at right-back, a position of priority for the upcoming season.

Leeds had a promising season but fell short in the play-offs, missing out on promotion after a defeat to Southampton.

Looking ahead, the club aims to regroup and mount a strong campaign to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

They will hope to bounce back next season and push for promotion back to the Premier League.

It’s an important season for Leeds United in 2024/25, after coming oh so close to getting promoted to the Premier League via the Play-Offs.

As it turned out, Southampton were just too strong for the all whites, and they remain in the Championship for at least one more season.

Though never really a regular as such, only getting sporadic minutes here and there per WhoScored, January loan signing Connor Roberts was, nevertheless, a reliable performer for the most part when called upon.

His parent club, Burnley, have joined Leeds back in the English second tier after their relegation from the top-flight, and with Scott Parker now having taken over the hot-seat from Vincent Kompany, there’s every chance that he might look to go in a different direction.

Yorkshire Evening Post Chief Football Writer, Graham Smyth, posted on X that he believes Burnley would jump at the chance of selling him to the Elland Road outfit permanently.

Any deal isn’t a foregone conclusion at this stage, but a move would seem to make sense for all parties.

Burnley defender Connor Roberts is being pursued by Leeds United in a permanent transfer, according to The Athletic.

After losing his starting position at Turf Moor under Vincent Kompany, Roberts moved on loan to Elland Road in the middle of the previous season.

He went on to appear in 15 games for Leeds as they advanced to the Championship play-off final.

The team led by Daniel Farke missed out on getting promoted to the Premier League.

The Whites lost to Southampton in the play-off final despite finishing only a few points behind the Championship winners, Leicester City.

Leeds United are linked with a move for Burnley’s Connor Roberts.

For the majority of his time with the Whites, he was not the team’s first choice at right back, but if he returns this summer, it is thought he may have a larger role.

Leeds now face the possibility of a rebuild this summer as they prepare to launch another challenge the following season after missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United want Roberts in a permanent move

According to The Athletic, Roberts is the target of the Whites in a permanent move, although his future is largely dependent on who manages Burnley after the departure of Vincent Kompany.

With one year remaining on his current contract in Lancashire, Roberts is thought to be considering his options and Leeds are waiting in the wings before pushing to finalise a deal.

Whether or not Leeds United make it back to the promised land of the Premier League at the first time of asking, it seems that Connor Roberts’ time at Elland Road will come to an end once the 2023/24 season concludes.

Daniel Farke and 49ers Enterprises will have certain decisions to make based on where the club will be plying its trade in 2024/25.

Clearly, many of those will be centred around playing staff in terms of who will be let go and who will be brought in.

Leeds will allow Connor Roberts to leave

According to HITC, the all whites could well go back in for West Ham’s 24-year-old star, Ben Johnson.

It’s believed that the club were interested in his services in January but opted for Roberts, who has seemingly not impressed whilst on loan from Burnley.

Johnson is also coveted by the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, so Leeds will certainly have competition if they want to firm up their previous interest.

West Ham's Ben Johnson could replace Connor Roberts at Leeds
West Ham defender Ben Johnson could be on his way to Leeds in place of Connor Roberts.

Furthermore, it’s also understood that the Hammers have attempted to keep the player at the London Stadium, but he has rebuffed any and all offers of a new contract.

A fresh start would therefore appear to be on his mind, it’s purely a question of where that will be.

Were Leeds not to be promoted – either automatically or via the Play-Offs – then the likelihood of Johnson moving there next season is negligible.

Claim one of the three spots, then it will be down to the strength of the pitch from the buying club as to whom Johnson chooses.

At 24 years of age, the next contract he signs will undoubtedly be his most important to date as he approaches his peak years, and to that end it has to work for him in all aspects including financial and professional.

Any club just waving money at him without a stable and interesting project to sell to him may as well not bother.

Leeds United produced yet another lacklustre display as they were beaten 1-0 by Blackburn Rovers this afternoon.

Leicester City lost 1-0 to Plymouth and Ipswich drew against Middlesbrough. Leeds had the chance to capitalise on the favourable results and go top of the league but lost as well.

It was their first home league defeat of the season as Sammie Szmodics’ late strike was enough to earn three points for Blackburn in another frustrating day for Daneil Farke’s side.

Blackburn sat in deep and absorbed the pressure running down the clock, which left Leeds players frustrated as they struggled to break them down.

Connor Roberts was left fuming at Joel Piroe

Phil Hay revealed that Roberts was seen yelling at Piroe to show some urgency as Leeds continued to try and break Blackburn down.

Hay posted on X:

“Roberts yelling at Piroe to show some urgency from a throw and get onto the wing to take it.”

Piroe was given a start in front of the goal but had a rather poor game and failed to make any sort of impact.

Leeds are now 3rd with 87 points, two points behind 1st place Ipswich Town and one point behind Leicester City.

Leeds United are interested in signing Burnley defender Connor Roberts on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window as Daniel Farke looks to strengthen his right-back options.

The 28-year-old joined the Yorkshire club on loan during the January window and has featured in eight Championship matches, providing two goal contributions.

The Welshman is not a starter for Leeds but the Championship club are short at right-back and if they are to return to the Premier League next season, they will need numbers across every position.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds have already drawn up their transfer strategies concerning several loan players ahead of the summer and it is believed that the Whites are keen to retain the services of Roberts.

The report says that Leeds would like to enter negotiations with Burnley in the coming months to make the 28-year-old’s move to Elland Road permanent as Daniel Farke clearly has plans for the full-back.

Should this deal go through it would see Robert’s three-year stay at Burnley come to an end having joined from Swansea in 2021.

The Welsh star will have concluded his time at Turf Moor having featured 88 times for the Clarets, scoring six goals and assisting a further eight.

With uncertainty over what division Leeds United will be in next season, there is uncertainty over the future of a handful of Leeds players.

The Yorkshire club are in a brilliant position in the Championship promotion race, currently top of the league via goal difference having played a game more than second place Leicester City.

Some of the Whites’ important players are set to head back to their parent clubs in the summer.

Jaidon Anthony, Joe Rodon, and Connor Roberts are currently on temporary deals at Elland Road. The future of the first two appears clear: Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has expressed his desire to have Anthony back at the club for pre-season, and Rodon’s permanent signing from Tottenham seems inevitable.

Leeds United's recent loan signing Connor Roberts will rejoin Burnley in the summer.

Journalist sheds light on possibility Connor Roberts stays at Leeds United

Roberts’ future is considerably more uncertain. The Whites secured the 28-year-old on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the season, without an option-to-buy clause included in the deal.

Given the increasing likelihood of Burnley being relegated to the Championship next season, retaining Roberts would seem like a straightforward decision from the Clarets’ perspective, especially considering his performance last year.

Respected journalist Graeme Bailey has been speaking to Leeds United News about the possibility of Roberts staying in Yorkshire beyond the summer.

“You’ve got squad players but what does Roberts offer that Sam Byram doesn’t, kind of thing. It is a tough one but I don’t see him being a long-term part for Leeds, being honest. I would be surprised if he came in.”

Despite starting just once since his move to the club, the Welshman has undoubtedly made an impact in the Championship promotion race: his equalising goal propelled Leeds towards an extraordinary comeback victory against Leicester City. Just a week later, he provided the assist for Patrick Bamford to secure a point for Leeds against Huddersfield Town.

Leeds United are keen on signing the Burnley defender Connor Roberts.

They are hoping to improve their defensive unit before Thursday’s deadline and they are now closing in on the signing of the Burnley defender.

Leeds have sanctioned the departures of Luke Ayling and Djed Spence recently. They will need to fill that void and Roberts could prove to be a useful acquisition.

Burnley are prepared to let the 28-year-old defender leave this month and Leeds are now set to secure his services. The formalities of the transfer are yet to be completed but a deal is expected to be done before the window slams shut.

Roberts is on a £30,000 a week contract at Burnley and he will be expected to make an immediate impact at Leeds. It will be interesting to see if he can help them improve and push for promotion during the second half of the season.

Leeds have shown vulnerability at the back this season and they will need to tighten up defensively if they want to finish the season strongly.

Leeds United look set to be one of England’s busiest clubs ahead of this month’s transfer deadline day.

The Whites are poised to land Ben Godfrey on loan from Everton with Norweigan full-back Leo Fuhr Hjelde set to join Sunderland.

But that isn’t the only business Daniel Farke could do before Wednesday night’s deadline.

According to transfer journalist and CaughtOffside columnist Ben Jacobs, the Yorkshire-based club could yet land not one, but two, Burnley players.

Forward Manuel Benson and full-back Connor Roberts are both heavily linked with a late switch to Elland Road, and Jacobs thinks there is a genuine chance both clubs could do business.

“I think there will be a window of opportunity for Leeds to do business with Burnley,” he told GiveMeSport.

“We should keep an eye on a couple of opportunities until the end of the window. On the full-back front, Roberts, who hasn’t started a top-flight game since October, is still very high on the list of priorities.

“Aside from the full-back, there’s concrete interest in Benson, which tells you that Leeds may be looking for a full-back and a more versatile winger. So, Leeds and Burnley could do some late business together.”
