It’s an important season for Leeds United in 2024/25, after coming oh so close to getting promoted to the Premier League via the Play-Offs.

As it turned out, Southampton were just too strong for the all whites, and they remain in the Championship for at least one more season.

Though never really a regular as such, only getting sporadic minutes here and there per WhoScored, January loan signing Connor Roberts was, nevertheless, a reliable performer for the most part when called upon.

His parent club, Burnley, have joined Leeds back in the English second tier after their relegation from the top-flight, and with Scott Parker now having taken over the hot-seat from Vincent Kompany, there’s every chance that he might look to go in a different direction.

Yorkshire Evening Post Chief Football Writer, Graham Smyth, posted on X that he believes Burnley would jump at the chance of selling him to the Elland Road outfit permanently.

Any deal isn’t a foregone conclusion at this stage, but a move would seem to make sense for all parties.

Former Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker has called on the Blues to bring in more experienced players like the “extraordinary” veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

The 39-year-old is still going strong at the very highest level, with Mauricio Pochettino clearly still selecting him in his starting XI on a regular basis and trusting him as a key member of his squad.

Still, Chelsea mostly have a very youthful side, with some cause for concern as young talents like Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Levi Colwill still have some way to go before they reach their peak years.

This has led to Chelsea being slightly inconsistent this season and fans will no doubt be frustrated, though many will also understand the switch in emphasis towards a more long-term project than they had under previous owner Roman Abramovich, who instead valued instant success with ready-made stars, with mixed results, particularly towards the end of his reign.

Thiago Silva in action for Chelsea

Parker, however, feels Chelsea could surely do well to bring in more experienced leaders like Silva to get a better blend of youth and experience in their squad.

Parker exclusively told Ladbrokes Fanzone: “Thiago Silva’s longevity is extraordinary. I was only having this conversation with my son the other day; the fact that, one, he’s still playing, but two, the fact he’s playing at the top end of Premier League football, at the level he’s at. It’s pretty special, and it shows the quality of the man.

“I do think that’s possibly the area in which Chelsea could strengthen, though; bringing in more experience to help these younger players in getting over the line; that’s key for Chelsea now.”

Things appear to be changing significantly at Elland Road with one of Leeds’ attackers having spoken to his former club about a return.

The Yorkshire-based outfit have got new owners in 49ers Enterprises and one of their first jobs will be to appoint a new first-team manager.

It’s believed that Patrick Vieira, Daniel Farke and Scott Parker are all under consideration, but whomever is appointed will need to quickly get to grips with which players he has at his disposal for the forthcoming 2023/24 English Championship season.

Unfortunately for the new incumbent, it doesn’t appear that he will be able to call upon the services of Crysencio Summerville.

Summerville has been a key player for Leeds United

According to Dutch outlet, 1908, the player has already spoken with Arne Slot about a potential reunion at Feyenoord, whilst Everton are believed to be interested according to The Telegraph (h/t 1908).

What’s clear is that the player doesn’t want to play in the Championship, and his immediate future is away from Elland Road.

That’ll surely come as a huge blow to whichever manager takes over, as Summerville is one of very few Leeds players that is able to run at defences and scare the life out of them.

If 49ers Enterprises are able to make a swift appointment, there’s a small chance that the player could be persuaded to give Leeds one last shot, but it’s looking doubtful at this stage.

It’s a crucial time for everyone connected with Leeds United, as the club plot a course over the next few weeks which will help them navigate the rigours of the Championship and hopefully return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Arguably the most important decision that new owners, 49ers Enterprises, will make is the hiring of the new first-team manager and, to that end, there is expected to be an interview this week with one candidate.

A handful of names have been mentioned already, with Patrick Vieira and Scott Parker believed to be under consideration for the post.

A post which was too big for the likes of Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce during the 2022/23 season.

Get the appointment wrong on this occasion, and the Elland Road outfit will be back to square one again, and that’s not a place where 49ers Enterprises want to be.

Daniel Farke

Recently sacked from Borussia Monchengladbach, Daniel Farke will interview for the position this week according to Sky Sports.

Supporters shouldn’t necessarily read too much into Farke’s dismissal at his previous club, as both Vieira and Parker were also relieved of their duties at Crystal Palace and Club Brugge respectively.

What should concern the new owners is the direction that the new manager expects to take the club in, the style of football that he wants to play and a cogent and convincing explanation as to how he expects to achieve it.

Time is of the essence and whomever lands the role does need to be given it sooner rather than later in order that the foundations for next season can quickly be laid.

With the final round of managerial interviews believed to have been conducted at Leeds United this week, a formal announcement as to who has replaced Sam Allardyce could be made as early as Friday.

The Elland Road outfit certainly need to get the ball rolling in this regard as pre-season for the Championship is just a few weeks away, and the new man in charge will want to ensure that his Leeds side are on the same page as he is by the time the 2023/24 domestic campaign begins.

Last season ended up being a bit of a write off as far as the all whites were concerned, the club going through three different managers across the season, none of which evidently had the skill set to keep the club from dropping into English football’s second tier.

Parachuting Sam Allardyce in for the final four games might have been seen as a masterstroke if ‘Big Sam’ had kept the club in the top-flight, but as it turned out, it just looked like a desperate last throw of the dice for this once proud club.

If new owners, 49ers Enterprises, heave learned anything in the short time that they’ve been in charge of the club, it’s that Leeds need stability and direction.

Not to mention a clear vision in terms of the way any new manager would like Leeds’ football to be played.

To that end, it’s possible that Patrick Vieira will be appointed as the new first-team manager, per The Guardian (subscription required), and the appointment could be announced on Friday – the Frenchman’s 47th birthday.

The Frenchman’s last job in management – Crystal Palace – ended in his sacking, the other two manager’s in contention: Scott Parker (Club Brugge) and Daniel Farke (Borussia Monchengladbach), suffering the same fate at the clubs mentioned.

Legendary former England midfielders Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker are reportedly contenders for a big job that could be about to become available.

There is some doubt about whether or not Lee Carsley will continue as England Under-21s boss, and it seems Lampard, Gerrard and Parker are among the possible candidates to take over if he does end up moving on, according to the Daily Mail.

Gerrard and Lampard recently lost jobs in the Premier League with Aston Villa and Everton, respectively, while Parker has also just been sacked by Club Brugge, having also previously managed in the Premier League with Fulham and Bournemouth.

It would be interesting to see how these big-name former players would fare as manager of England’s youngsters, as they’ve perhaps not had the best of starts to coaching at the very highest level.

Scott Parker

The England U21s could give them an opportunity to develop, however, and it could open the door to bigger jobs in the future.

Gareth Southgate also managed England at youth level before moving up into the dugout for the senior team.

Bournemouth have become the first Premier League side to sack a manager this season with Scott Parker receiving his marching orders early on Tuesday morning.

The Cherries appointed Parker as boss last year having left Fulham earlier that summer, and he brought them instant success with automatic promotion back to the Premier League along with the Cottagers and Nottingham Forest.

However, the club have not spend much this summer; only Joe Rothwell and Marcos Senesi have been signed for the first team for a fee, which is nowhere near enough considering the talent that Fulham and Forest have plucked from across the continent.

A win over Aston Villa on the opening day of the season gave them a good springboard to use, but defeats to Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool – the latter being a 9-0 loss – have seen the club fall back down to 17th.

And with money being an issue, Parker’s post-match comments in the humiliation at Anfield highlighted his frustration – to which club owner Maxim Demin alluded to in a club statement.

“I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,” Demin said via the club’s official website.

“Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under his tenure will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history.

“However, in order for us to keep progressing as a team and a Club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably.

“We must also show belief in and respect for one another. That is the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one that we will not veer from now.

“Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”

It is yet to be seen who the Cherries will bring in, although Sean Dyche has been touted as an early frontrunner.

English football announced its return in the only way possible last night as Bournemouth manager Scott Parker found himself on the end of a meaty slide tackle in the Championship opener vs West Brom.

In the 19th minute of the encounter between the promotion hopefuls, Karlan Grant looked to burst down the left-wing by knocking the ball forward.

Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham had other plans though as the Wales international knocked the forward out of play, leaving the pair to tumble and crash into Scott Parker.

Parker showed excellent reflexes for a man who retired four years ago as the 40-year-old managed to avoid the brunt force of the sliding Grant and Mepham, but he still ended up falling to the floor.

It seems scarcely believable that Crystal Palace have released 22 players, but Patrick Vieira is clearly keen to mould the squad to his liking as quickly as possible, meaning one such club stalwart could end up at Championship club, Bournemouth.

According to Football Insider sources, 34-year-old Scott Dann is one of those now available on a free transfer, and the Cherries are leading the chase for his signature.

Vieira has certainly taken the new broom sweeps clean narrative to another level, putting himself under immense pressure in the process.

Patrick Vieira has got rid of 22 Crystal Palace players this summer

Whilst it’s accepted that when a new manager joins a club there will invariably be casualties, to have almost as many players as first-team squad members leave in one go is unheard of.

Dann is a tough-tackling, no-nonsense defender, and is clearly right up Scott Parker’s street.

The Bournemouth manager knows exactly what it takes to get out of the Championship, and his expected purchase of a wily old campaigner is likely to prove to be an astute one.

Fulham manager Scott Parker is reportedly set to leave the London-based club with fellow Championship side Bournemouth keeping a close eye on the Englishman’s situation.

That’s according to a recent report from the Telegraph, who claims the young manager is expected to depart Fulham as early as this week.

Parker, 40, began his managerial career in 2019 when he took over as the Cottagers’ head coach.

Since then, the young gaffer has gone on to guide the Cottagers back to England’s top-flight.

However, following a disappointing season last time out, Fulham, who failed to beat the drop, will now find themselves back in the Championship next season.

Despite their relegation though, Parker has earned the respect from many football fans – most notably for the brand of football his side plays.

Often associated with fast-paced, possession-based, attractive football, Parker is likely to find himself among some of the country’s most highly-rated young tacticians.

The Telegraph claim that the former midfielder is now likely to move on and one of the clubs keen on securing his services is fellow Championship outfit Bournemouth.
