After getting promoted to the Premier League, Leicester City lost their manager to Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca left the Championship winners to join Chelsea, replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

The Foxes decided to appoint Premier League experienced manager Steve Cooper and now he is determined to extend the team’s stay in the Premier League by eyeing summer signings.

A number of players have been linked with the newly promoted team as they consider making signings in all positions.

One of the players who is currently on Leicester City’s radar is Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old is being watched by the Foxes, Fulham, Southampton, and other unidentified clubs in Europe.

The player joined the club from Fulham and it looked like he is on his way to become a fan favourite.

However, after limited opportunities and loan spells away from the club, Carvalho’s future at Anfield remains uncertain.

Fabio Carvalho could leave Liverpool to join Leicester City.

He joined Hull in the January window and had a successful loan there the previous season.

Despite his impressive performances in the Championship, the Reds are not too sure about keeping him at the club beyond this summer.

The midfielder wants to prove himself at Liverpool and he is willing to push hard to stay at the club.

Leicester City are ready to take Liverpool midfielder

The Reds are currently keeping an eye on his progress in the preseason and if they are impressed by his performances and potential, they are going to make him a part of Arne Slot’s first team squad next season.

In case the player fails to impress the management, a move away from Liverpool is likely with Leicester City named as one of the possible destinations.

The Foxes are actively looking at ways to strengthen their squad this summer, hoping to avoid the fate faced by the three promoted teams last season.

Fabio Carvalho could get another opportunity with Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Fabio Carvalho could get a golden opportunity to establish himself in the Liverpool team next season. The 21-year-old will return to his parent club in the summer and according to Football Insider, he will be given an opportunity to impress the new manager.

After an impressive rise at Fulham, the 21-year-old Portuguese youth international joined Liverpool in the summer of 2022. In his first season at the club, Carvalho had less than 700 minutes of first-team football.

He was unlikely to have an important role under Jurgen Klopp in the second season as well, as a result, they ended up sending him out on loan to RB Leipzig at the start of the 2023/24 season. Things didn’t go according to plan for him at the German club as he was left on the bench more often than not.

He returned to his parent club in the winter before joining Hull City on a short loan spell for the second half of the season.

Hull City unlikely to sign Fabio Carvalho

The 21-year-old seems to be enjoying his time at the Championship club. He has featured in 17 matches and has scored eight goals for the Tigers who are pushing for a Championship play-off place.

While Hull City would love to sign the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis, they can’t afford to carry out the deal. He will return to his parent club in the summer and according to Pete O’Rourke, Carvalho will be given the opportunity to salvage his Liverpool career.

The Portuguese youth international will be a part of their pre-season camp and he will have the opportunity to establish himself as an important part of their squad under Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

Latest on Manchester United board reshuffle

It’s not been a good time for Manchester United lately after the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth and just one win from their last seven Premier League games now. It’s important to remember the incredible injury situation at the club, though, with 60 separate cases of players being injured or ill this season – a really shocking number and they are discussing this internally at United.

But of course many of you have been asking me about the Erik ten Hag situation – what I can say is that Ten Hag has been honest with what he’s saying in public about having positive talks with co-owners INEOS. This is the reality – Ten Hag is having conversations with INEOS about the project and about the summer ahead. This was also the case earlier in the season, when Ten Hag spoke with the board and approved the decision to sign an important centre-back in 2024.

But, of course, results are crucial. Even if Ten Hag has had a positive involvement so far, INEOS of course want to see something positive on the pitch in the final weeks of the season, for example in the FA Cup. The end of the season, in terms of both performances and results, is going to be important for INEOS to decide the future of Ten Hag, so the situation remains open.

We also know that this situation will be looked at by new people on the board. John Murtough recently left the club and Jason Wilcox will be an important appointment after doing fantastic work at Southampton, and previously at Manchester City’s academy. The call from Manchester United was a really big opportunity for him, and he’s not speaking with Liverpool or any other club, it’s only Man United. He has an agreement with United over a contract, so now it’s just about an agreement with Southampton. He looks like he’ll be really important for United’s present and future as he knows how to manage young talents really well.

Then there’s Dan Ashworth – it’s important to say that the conversations over this move continue. Ashworth wants to work for Man United, he hasn’t changed his mind, so everything is on track between him and the Red Devils, but it’s just about Newcastle. Talks are still ongoing for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and people at Newcastle to find an agreement, but the future plan is clear.

Transfer ins and outs to watch out at United this summer

Moving on from the manager and the board, it’s also important to say that the summer at Manchester United will be very busy. Anthony Martial is going to leave – he had some opportunities in Turkey and France in the January transfer window, let’s see what will happen in the next months but for sure he’s not staying at Man United.

Raphael Varane is another who, at the moment, has not been offered a new contract by United. We had rumours back in March about a new contract based on appearances and game time, but I’m told this is not true. Let’s see if things change, but as of today Varane has not received any proposal from the club, so his future remains open.

Sofyan Amrabat has a buy option in his loan from Fiorentina but at the moment the intention is not to trigger the buy option. Amrabat at the moment looks like he could return to Fiorentina, while there will also be discussions over other players like Christian Eriksen and Casemiro – these players will discuss their futures at United in the summer.

Casemiro could seal a transfer away from Manchester United

With Casemiro, it’s important to clarify that although Saudi interest is there, Man United and Casemiro never received any formal proposal from Saudi clubs, so let’s see if that will change in the summer.

After that, INEOS expect the club to be busy in terms of signings. The plan is clear – there could be at least one new signing at centre-back, or maybe even two, depending on what happens with Varane. United have been scouting important centre-backs like Jean-Clair Todibo, Gleison Bremer, Antonio Silva, Jarrad Branthwaite – these are important players appreciated by United.

They will also invest at left-back, no matter what happens with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia – the idea is to bring in a new left-back for next season who can be an important option, not just for rotation.

It’s also crucial to say that United will sign a new striker because Martial is leaving and so they want more competition there in the number 9 position. For the moment United are still discussing internally if they want to go for a young striker or a more experienced striker, for example Ivan Toney, who could be available on the market, while United are informed of his situation. Let’s see if they decide to attack this situation or go for a younger player.

Other outgoings will also need to be resolved, such as Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood. For the latter, I’m still told that the idea is for Greenwood to be sold, for the club to cash in on him. Despite reports, I don’t have anything on Lazio and Greenwood so far. Many clubs are monitoring him but all waiting to understand Man United’s final position. Lazio asked for Greenwood on Deadline Day last summer but it was always Getafe leading the race from what I heard.

To end on a more positive note, United remain optimistic on a new deal for Kobbie Mainoo. Discussions are ongoing, United are working strongly on that, also because INEOS are eager to make Mainoo one of the faces of the project for the present and future. He’s already on a long-term contract so it’s not a hugely urgent issue, but they want him to receive an important salary, and so this is one of the priorities of the club.

Bayer Leverkusen make history, but could make one major sale this summer

It’s important to congratulate Bayer Leverkusen for winning the Bundesliga yesterday, and they did it in style with a 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen before incredible scenes of celebration at their home stadium.

It’s been a fantastic job by Xabi Alonso – underrated in my opinion, as Xabi took over in October 2022 and in just 18 months they’ve been able to go from second bottom to first in the league and winning the Bundesliga in style with zero defeats, dominating since day one. It’s incredible. The board did an insane job, as well as Xabi and the players. Boniface, Grimaldo, Frimpong but also Xhaka are the perfect example of an incredible, perfect mix. What they’re doing is fantastic, congrats to Leverkusen.

As for what happens next, there have unsurprisingly been plenty of rumours about Leverkusen having their best players poached. My understanding is that Leverkusen could sell one player, it could happen; but I don’t see them selling more than one. Xabi Alonso decided to stay also because the club will back him on the market and keeping the main part of this group is crucial, so my expectation is for maximum one top, top player leaving, but not Florian Wirtz.

More transfer news…

Fabio Carvalho – After some fine form on loan at Hull City, there is some interest emerging in Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho. At the moment it’s just interest in terms of calling to ask for the situation, not a negotiation with Liverpool so it’s too early to discuss a potential formula of the deal or similar. Liverpool won’t decide now, it will depend on new manager, there are many things to sort before discussing Fabio’s future but his performances are appreciated by many clubs.

Zinedine Zidane – Linked again with the Bayern Munich job, but I’m not aware of something advanced involving Zinedine Zidane at this stage. Bayern have considered many managers during the last months, top coaches like Zidane and Conte are free so it’s normal to discuss internally, but I’m still told that Julian Nagelsmann is the favourite candidate with Ralf Rangnick and Roberto de Zerbi still on the shortlist, based on what’s going to happen with Nagelsmann.

Jose Mourinho – There have been some surprise reports linking Jose Mourinho with West Ham. Honestly I have zero about Mourinho and West Ham now. I have no idea if he’d accept this kind of job, because I’m not aware of anything happening. Let’s see if becomes concrete, but as of today, it’s not something I am personally hearing.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that Liverpool’s new manager will be key to determining the future of loaned-out youngster Fabio Carvalho this summer after his impressive form during his stint at Hull City.

The 21-year-old endured a difficult first season at Liverpool last year as he struggled to nail down a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s side, while he then also failed to make much of an impression whilst on loan at RB Leipzig earlier this season.

This then led to Carvalho agreeing a new loan to Hull in January, and he’s improved a lot since then, with Romano revealing that there’s a growing list of clubs who appreciate him, though it’s too early to know for sure what it means for his future.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano stated that Liverpool will need to finalise hiring a new manager to replace Klopp before deciding on the future of players like Carvalho.

Fabio Carvalho has shone on loan at Hull City

It could be that the Portuguese starlet will be loaned out again amid interest from other clubs, or the Reds may also end up deciding it’s worth cashing in on him with a permanent sale at this point.

Carvalho transfer update from Romano

“At the moment it’s just interest in terms of calling to ask for the situation, not a negotiation with Liverpool so it’s too early to discuss a potential formula of the deal or similar,” Romano said.

“Liverpool won’t decide now, it will depend on new manager, there are many things to sort before discussing Fabio’s future but his performances are appreciated by many clubs.”

Carvalho clearly has plenty of talent, but it may be that LFC will ultimately decide he hasn’t quite got it in him to succeed at a truly top club, though at his age there is perhaps still time for him to keep on learning and developing, with another loan spell perhaps ideal to give him the experience he needs before coming back to Anfield ready to be a regular.

Liverpool attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho is doing well out on loan at Hull City in the second half of this season, and there’s been some talk of him potentially staying there permanently.

Fabrizio Romano has responded to the speculation, however, to play down talk of anything being decided now as there are still too many factors that will remain uncertain for a little while longer.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Hull haven’t had Carvalho for long enough to make a more long-term decision on his future, while at Liverpool it remains key to get a new sporting director and manager in before working out what to do with Carvalho and other players.

The young Portuguese starlet will be happy to be getting back to his best after a difficult spell of not playing much for LFC, while he also struggled to get on the pitch much during a spell on loan at RB Leipzig earlier this season, which ended up being cut short so another loan deal could be arranged.

Still, it seems any talk of a permanent move to Hull is premature, according to Romano.

Fabio Carvalho in action for Hull City

Carvalho transfer situation won’t be decided yet for multiple reasons, says Romano

Discussing the latest speculation about the former Fulham youngster, Romano said: “I can also guarantee no decision has been made on Fabio Carvalho’s future, and talks have not even started.”

He added: “Hull are super happy with the player since signing him on loan, but I’m sure this is not something you decide now; also Liverpool are still waiting for new director, new manager…so there are too many factors before deciding on the player’s future, it will take time.

Liverpool fans may have mixed feelings about Carvalho’s future as he’s not really lived up to his potential so far, but it might be that this loan at Hull is just what he needs before returning to Anfield to compete for a first-team place again.

Liverpool attacker Fabio Carvalho is currently on loan at Hull City in the Championship.

The 21-year-old struggled for regular game time during the first half of the season, when he was on loan in the Bundesliga at RB Leipzig. The player returned to his parent club during the January window and he was sent out on loan to the Championship. So far, the move to Hull has worked out well for him.

Carvalho has started regularly for the Tigers and he has scored three goals for them in the Championship as well.

According to INews, Hull wants to make his loan move permanent at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether they can secure an agreement with Liverpool. Carvalho is unlikely to get regular first opportunities at the Premier League club and therefore selling him permanently would be ideal for all parties.

Fabio Carvalho in action for RB Leipzig

Carvalho has no future at Liverpool

The 21-year-old needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and returning to Liverpool might not be ideal for him. The player is certainly enjoying his time in the Championship and he could develop into a key player for the Tigers in the coming seasons.

If he can continue to impress in the second division of English football, there is no doubt that the top clubs will start coming in for him in the near future.

Carvalho can operate as a winger as well as an attacking midfielder. His personality, creativity and ability to chip in with goals make him an attractive prospect. It will be interesting to see if Hull can help him fulfil his tremendous potential.

The Liverpool loanee produced a stunning goal on his debut to guide his new club to a 1-0 win against Sunderland on Friday evening.

Fabio Carvalho joined the Championship club on loan last week after returning from a disappointing spell at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

The 21-year-old has plenty of experience playing in the Championship as he helped Fulham secure promotion before moving to Merseyside in 2022.

Despite his lack of minutes, Carvalho showed how clinical he can be with a sweet volley after an assist from fellow Liverpool loanee, Tyler Morton.

Fabio Carvalho is a lovely footballer, but it’s getting harder to see a future for him at Liverpool

For Fabio Carvalho, the move to Hull City, which is set to be finalised this week, represents a clear indication of how things haven’t gone to plan over the past 18 months or so.

When he joined Liverpool, he did so as the outstanding young player in the Championship, a player tipped for international honours and a big future at Anfield.

Now, he finds himself back at square one, in many respects. It hasn’t worked out for him on Merseyside, it didn’t go much better for him over in Germany with RB Leipzig, and his stock has undoubtedly fallen.

With that in mind, then, it is vital that he first and foremost finds a way to get into the Hull side and play some games, and that once he does that, he shows the talent which convinced Liverpool (and many other clubs) that he was worth looking at.

The talent is there, for sure. Carvalho’s a lovely footballer, tidy and technically accomplished, with a good final pass and the ability to score goals, but he needs to develop in terms of involving himself in all aspects of the game, staying engaged and involved and not drifting to the fringes, which was a criticism during his (rather limited) appearances at Anfield.

It’s hard to imagine that he has a long-term future at Liverpool, to be perfectly honest, but that doesn’t mean he can’t, or won’t, have a good career. But he needs this spell to go well.

Liverpool unlikely to sign cover for Mohamed Salah this January, but is Saudi transfer still a worry for the summer?

I’d be amazed if Liverpool looked to bring in a forward in this window. Of course Mohamed Salah is a miss, as is Wataru Endo in midfield, but they still have four high quality attacking options available, with the possibility of using Harvey Elliott and/or Dominik Szoboszlai off the right flank too, if required.

Liverpool, generally, do not go for such short-termism in their recruitment – and when they have done (Arthur Melo, for example) it tends not to work. They think about the bigger picture, not plugging two-week gaps.

It’s no surprise to see tons of players linked with Liverpool. It’s the price on the ticket for such a big club, that their name is thrown in whenever a prospect emerges or talk of a transfer starts to ramp up.

Ignoring the specific names for a second, the pertinent question is whether Liverpool will look to sign a forward player in the summer, and whether they need to. If no-one was to leave the club, I’d edge towards ‘no’, but of course if we were to see another summer like the last one, where previously-untouchable players were lured away by the Saudi Pro League, then everything becomes possible.

Mo Salah’s future, in particular, is one to watch. My personal opinion is that the last six months must have shown him the dangers of moving to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career, and that he must surely be thinking about the idea of extending his stay in Europe, and at Liverpool. I can’t speak to Salah’s mindset, but I know he’s an ambitious character and that the best place to fulfil those ambitions is not in Riyadh or Jeddah.

If Salah were to stay, and assuming none of Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota were to be sold, I’d say Liverpool are in pretty good shape, attack-wise. The one thing they perhaps lack is a player of sheer speed who can play from the right, and so I understand why links with players such as Neto and Bakayoko persist, but I’m not sure the Reds would be spending £40m+ on those, unless there were players heading out of the door.

Timo Werner is back in the Premier League – what if he had joined Liverpool instead of Chelsea?

Timo Werner is back in English football after joining Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season. I think he is a great example of a player whose career could have turned out very differently had he chosen his next move a little more carefully in key moments.

In 2020, he was very much on the agenda at Liverpool. They tracked him extensively, conducted detailed research into his background and character, and were engaged in a lengthy dialogue with RB Leipzig over a potential deal.

Chelsea, though, won the argument, convincing the player that he would be a more integral part of their side than at Anfield, where the established front three of Salah, Mane and Firmino was still in its pomp, and offering better personal terms in the process.

My personal feeling is that had Werner moved to Merseyside, he would have fitted in far better than he ever did in West London. I know he won the Champions League with Chelsea, but it is impossible to regard his transfer as a success, given he scored 10 Premier League goals in two seasons there. He was the eighth of 11 penalty takers in a League Cup final shootout against Liverpool, and an unused sub in the FA Cup final a few months later. That tells you how his time at Stamford Bridge went.

Liverpool harbour few regrets. They signed Diogo Jota after missing out on Werner, and the Portuguese international has proven a very smart acquisition. I suspect Werner would have too, but we’ll never know. Perhaps at Spurs we’ll finally see him fulfil his true potential in the Premier League.

Is this Liverpool side even better placed for a quadruple bid than two years ago?

Liverpool’s victory over Arsenal may have required a little good fortune and a lot of grit and determination, but it serves merely to underline the progress of this team into serious contenders for honours.

Remember their ‘quadruple’ bid of 2021-22? They’re actually in an even better position this time around. They’re better-placed in the Premier League than two years ago, they’re a two-legged tie against Fulham away from the Carabao Cup final, favourites for the Europa League and they’ve just knocked out one of the favourites for the FA Cup away from home, earning a friendly fourth-round draw while Manchester City have to visit Tottenham.

They have a long way to go, but I think Liverpool have shown that it is they who can last the distance in the Premier League alongside City. They’re the hardest team to beat in the league, and when you have that, plus the attacking match-winners that Klopp has at his disposal, then you’re not far away at all from glory.

I still think there will be some twists to come – and Liverpool have three or four players they simply cannot afford to lose to injury – but I also think that we are set for a really exciting few months at Anfield. Come May, I expect at least one trophy to be in the cabinet.

Liverpool attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho may not have a long-term future at the club after his recent struggles, according to LFC journalist Neil Jones.

The Portugal Under-21 international is poised to go out on loan to Hull City for the second half of the season, having struggled in the first part of the campaign in a loan spell at RB Leipzig, where he barely played.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Jones explained that he now feels it’s increasingly difficult to see Carvalho coming back from Hull and becoming a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Having struggled at Liverpool last season, and with his loan at Leipzig this term not going to plan, this move to Hull certainly looks crucial for Carvalho now if he is to revive his career.

Fabio Carvalho during his time on loan at RB Leipzig

Jones admits he still rates Carvalho highly, but it seems there is some pessimism now about whether or not the 21-year-old can fulfil his true potential.

“For Fabio Carvalho, the move to Hull City, which is set to be finalised this week, represents a clear indication of how things haven’t gone to plan over the past 18 months or so,” Jones said.

“When he joined Liverpool, he did so as the outstanding young player in the Championship, a player tipped for international honours and a big future at Anfield.

“Now, he finds himself back at square one, in many respects. It hasn’t worked out for him on Merseyside, it didn’t go much better for him over in Germany with RB Leipzig, and his stock has undoubtedly fallen.

“With that in mind, then, it is vital that he first and foremost finds a way to get into the Hull side and play some games, and that once he does that, he shows the talent which convinced Liverpool (and many other clubs) that he was worth looking at.

“The talent is there, for sure.

“It’s hard to imagine that he has a long-term future at Liverpool, to be perfectly honest, but that doesn’t mean he can’t, or won’t, have a good career. But he needs this spell to go well.”

Liverpool attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho’s loan transfer away from the club is all done, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the youngster set to make his debut for Hull City this Friday.

Carvalho only recently returned to Liverpool from a loan spell at RB Leipzig in the first half of the season, with the 21-year-old barely playing during his brief stint in the Bundesliga, and now ready to go out on loan again somewhere else for the second half of the campaign.

See below for details from Romano on X, formerly Twitter, with the journalist explaining that Carvalho’s loan move is all done and the Portugal Under-21 international is in line to play for Hull on Friday…

This looks a fine signing for Hull, as Carvalho has previously shone at Championship level during his days as a Fulham player, where he first caught the attention of Liverpool.

It hasn’t quite worked out for Carvalho since then, but a loan move like this could be just what he needs to get his career back on track and return to Anfield a better player next season.
