Tottenham are set to raid Middlesbrough for midfielder Hayden Hackney this summer according to reports.

Spurs are known to be seeking midfield reinforcements as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his squad in an attempt to get the club back into the Champions League.

Postecoglou’s side started the season strongly but faded towards the end, and missed out on a top four finish to Aston Villa, and instead had to settle for Europa League football.

Spurs target Middlesbrough midfielder

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher with the Blues set to be open to offers for the England international as they aim to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Spurs are expected to part ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer, whilst there are also doubts over the future of Yves Bissouma, which would leave space for new arrivals in the middle of the park.

Hackney could be on his way to the Premier League this summer.

The Northern Echo report that Boro midfielder Hackney has been on the club’s radar for some time with the north London club extensively scouting him during the 2022/2023 season.

The report adds Spurs continued to monitor the 21-year-old in the first part of last season, and were linked with a January move, but nothing materialised in the end.

Hackney missed the last three months of the season through injury but that’s not believed to have impacted Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder.

The England under-21 international is a Boro academy product and has already made 69 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing six assists.

West Ham are lining up alternatives to Kalvin Phillips as the Hammers may not sign the Man City star on a permanent deal following his poor start to life at the London Stadium. 

The England international has made a catalogue of errors in what has been a miserable run of form for David Moyes’ team and according to Alan Nixon, the East London club are looking at players to replace Phillips once his loan deal expires.

Writing on his Patreon page, Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney is liked by West Ham and could be an option for the summer. The Hammers had scouts watching the 21-year-old at the weekend and this will unlikely be the last time they will be in attendance.

Nottingham Forest are also interested in the Middlesbrough star but West Ham believe they can challenge their Premier League rivals for the midfielder’s signature.

Tuesday night provided a glimpse into what one Tottenham and Man City target could do against Premier League opposition.

Middlesbrough’s 21-year-old defensive midfielder, Hayden Hackney, was the match winner in the first leg of the Carabao Cup against Chelsea, and his all-action display meant that the likes of £100m+ players, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, were in his shadow.

England U21 ace Hackney has garnered a deserved reputation with a series of high quality displays in the north east, and as The Standard note, Man United and Liverpool are also keeping tabs.

The outlet also suggest that Middlesbrough are accepting of the fact that the player will leave the club, and expect offers to come flooding in during the summer.

There is a chance he could be sold in the current transfer window, but only a sensational offer would see that scenario occur.

Given just how well he performed on Tuesday, he may well have given a few sporting directors and Premier League managers some food for thought.

There’s an obvious question as to whether interested parties can afford to wait until the next transfer window and then get involved in what’s likely to be a bun fight for the player’s services.

Chelsea have been stunned in their EFL Cup semi-final clash with Middlesbrough as Hayden Hackney has given the Championship side the lead. 

The Premier League outfit have been the better of the two teams in the opening 35 minutes of the match and have had chances to open the scoring.

However, in minute 37, Boro played a simple ball over the top and with Chelsea failing to deal with it, Hackney finished off the move with a tidy finish.

The goal will make life a lot harder for Mauricio Pocehttino’s side as Middlesbrough now have something to defend in the second 45.

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney is drawing a lot of attention from the Premier League as four of the “big six” are scouting the 21-year-old with an eye on signing the player next summer.

Liverpool, Man United and Man City have all had scouts watching Hackney in recent months but the most interested club is believed to be Tottenham, reports the Daily Mail.

The midfielder is focused on finishing the season with Middlesbrough and would prefer to move during the summer transfer window if he is to leave the Riverside Stadium.

Boro are just six points away from the playoff spots in the Championship and if they were to get promoted to the Premier League, it is uncertain how that would affect the future of Hackney.

Hackney is a defensive midfielder who has come through the ranks at Middlesbrough before making his debut for the Championship club in 2021. The 21-year-old is a good deep-lying playmaker and certainly has a future in the Premier League.

The midfielder has played 16 times in the Championship this season and a further four in the EFL Cup, which shows the trust Michael Carrick has in the youngster.

The Englishman has a contract at the Riverside Stadium until 2027 but will Hackney see that out with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs keeping an eye on his career?

Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney.

The 20-year-old has established himself as an important first-team player for Michael Carrick, and the two Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on him.

The 20-year-old is highly rated in English football and he has a big future ahead of him. He could prove to be a quality long-term investment for the two English clubs.

According to a report from 90 Min, Middlesbrough are not keen on selling their prized young prospect, but they could be forced to consider substantial offers from the Premier League. Apparently, they are not in a financial position to turn down lucrative offers and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Middlesbrough could have held on to the youngster if they had secured promotion to the Premier League, but they were beaten by Coventry in the play-offs.

Arsenal will need to add more depth to their midfield and the 20-year-old could prove to be a useful addition. He might not be ready to start every game for the Gunners just yet, but Arsenal will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season and they will have plenty of opportunities to rotate the squad and give the youngster ample first-team opportunities.
