The post Leeds in pole position to land Norwich City’s best player appeared first on CaughtOffside.
]]>Josh Sargent of Norwich City is reportedly a target for Leeds United this summer, as Daniel Farke is eager for a reunion.
Despite missing a significant portion of the 2023–24 season due to injury, the US international was a vital member of the Canaries squad.
Some of Norwich’s top players, including Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara, might draw a lot of attention in the upcoming months after the team were unable to return to the Premier League.
Another player that can draw a lot of attention is Sargent, who was recently linked to transfers to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford.
Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to sign a new attacker this summer and he has pointed towards the Norwich player.
The former England international has claimed that the Whites need a natural goal scorer to gain promotion next season.
He told Football Insider:
“I think the feeling from within the club is that a number nine is needed,” the ex-Whites goalkeeper said.
“I’ve not heard whether Leeds are interested in Sargent or not, but the links are there with the manager.
“I think a lot of incomings will depend on outgoings and what they’ve got to spend.
“Patrick Bamford was injured yet again and was only a sporadic part of last season.
“The feeling at Leeds was that Piroe started well but faded away, Rutter flattered to deceive despite getting the goals, but the goals came from all over the team last season.
“Number nine is a position the club will look at this summer, from what I’m told. Whether that’s Sargent or someone else, I’m not sure.
“The lack of reliability on Bamford’s fitness and the form of Piroe and Rutter means I think they’ll be in for a striker.”
Robinson is spot on with his analysis as the Whites are in desperate need of a prolific goal scorer.
They failed to get promoted to the Premier League due to their goal scoring woes towards the end of the season.
Farke is expected to bring new signings to the club in order to challenge for Premier League promotion again.

]]>Reportedly, Brentford have emerged as the first Premier League club to express interest in Josh Sargent, as they make arrangements to sell Ivan Toney this summer.
Brentford are fully aware that England forward Ivan Toney is poised to make a move during the upcoming summer transfer window. Having demonstrated his capabilities at the highest level, the 27-year-old has been linked with prestigious clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea.
Toney’s departure is expected to generate a substantial fee, yet Brentford aren’t inclined to make extravagant expenditures on a replacement. Instead, according to Alan Nixon’s report on Patreon, they aim to secure value for money when seeking cover for Toney. Sargent is viewed as fitting that criteria.
However, securing Sargent will likely come with a significant price tag, especially since he recently signed a new five-year contract with Norwich. With 11 goals already for the Canaries this season, including seven in his last eight games, he is anticipated to draw plenty of admirers in the upcoming weeks.
Norwich might still make a push for the Championship playoffs, providing them an opportunity to reclaim a Premier League spot. However, Sargent could be en route in that direction regardless, as Brentford aren’t expected to be the only top-flight club considering a move for the established goal scorer.

]]>Norwich City striker Josh Sargent is reportedly keen on sealing a potential transfer to Leeds United this summer.
The 23-year-old has impressed in his time in the Championship and looks like just the kind of player who could help Leeds with their push to win promotion back to the Premier League this term.
Sargent is also a player Daniel Farke knows well, so a deal makes sense, but it looks like he won’t come cheap for the Yorkshire outfit.
Leeds fans will just have to hope that Sargent’s desire to move on from Norwich can help their cause in the final weeks of the transfer window.

]]>Watford can’t have had a much worse night in their entire Premier League history than what they have had tonight.
Three goals down at home against a direct relegation rival and with their top goalscorer sent off in a gutless display have seen The Hornets fall into the relegation
In many ways the floodlight failure at Vicarage Road has been the most exciting part of the evening for a Watford fan, and it is a pretty good metaphor for their flickering Premier League status unless they can turn this form around and put some results together before the end of the season.
Josh Sargent’s brace had put the hosts two down before an own goal from substitute Juraj Kucka effectively put the rubber stamp on proceedings tonight being a competition.
The result also means the trigger happy Watford board may have finally run out of patience with former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri, and could choose to sack him to give themselves on last toss of the managerial dice in the hope of staying up.
For The Canaries it means they are out of the relegation zone for the first time in 53 Premier League games.

]]>Josh Sargent may have taken a while to score his first Premier League goal, but they do say they come in pairs and that has held true tonight.
After a spectacular flick for his first of the night, Sargent then found space around the far post and managed to head home his sides second to double his tally for the night as he headed over the Watford defender.
The goal has come just minutes before Claudio Ranieri’s and Watford’s night became even worse with the sending off of top goalscorer Emmanuel Dennis for a silly challenge on full-back Max Aarons.
The result will see Norwich climb out of the relegation zone at Watford’s expense, and could prove to be a massive result come the end of the season.

]]>Josh Sargent has finally opened his Premier League goalscoring account for Norwich City, and what a big goal it could be for them.
The Canaries are fighting to maintain their Premier League status at the end of the season and are facing off against fellow newly-promoted side Watford, who were just one point above Norwich at the start of the night.
However, after winning the ball back high up the pitch and after some extra hard grafting from Teemu Pukki, Norwich managed to grab the breakthrough on the evening through American international Sargent.
Pukki had the ball at the byline and with two options to choose from he opted to try a lofted pass to Sargent.
However, the Finn played the ball behind his run and the chance would have been lost if not for an excellent piece of improvisation to flick the ball from behind him and in off the bar to give Norwich the lead.
Even more importantly though, is that the goal lifts Norwich out of the bottom three and if they can hold onto the result will mean they cannot return into it his weekend. Dean Smith is doing a fine job.
