Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca has admitted he doesn’t know why Chelsea decided to recall Cesare Casadei from loan in January.
Joining the Foxes last summer on a season-long loan, Casadei, 21, was expected to play in the Championship until the end of the campaign.
However, opting to recall the young Italian, parent club Chelsea brought him back to Stamford Bridge after just six months at the King Power.
Despite his surprise at the time, Maresca has once again hinted at his frustration over Chelsea’s decision to recall the 21-year-old.
“I don’t know. I know that Cesare was happy here. We were happy with Cesare,” the Leicester boss said ahead of the two team’s FA Cup clash on Sunday.
“The reason that they decided to bring him back, I don’t know. The only thing that I can say is that we lost players in January. The reason why is a question for Chelsea.”
He added: “We started with Wilf [Ndidi] then he was out for more than two months. Then we lost Cesare in the moment that we lost Wilf.
“We tried to use Ricardo [Pereira], Dennis [Praet] and Yunus [Akgun] with Kiernan [Dewsbury-Hall] but it’s not exactly the same. Even with Cesare, we are still there [top of the table].”
Since returning to Chelsea, Casare, who has [-] left on his contract, has made three appearances in all competitions.
