West Ham United appointed manager Julen Lopetegui after parting ways with David Moyes.

They are now expected to back the new manager in the transfer market with a number of positions being looked at by the Hammers’ recruitment staff.

They have already completed one signing, Luis Guilherme from Brazilian club Palmeiras.

As of right now, one of the Hammers’ present goalkeepers is expected to leave, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

In order to replace him, they are getting ready for yet another signing.

Wes Foderingham’s contract at Sheffield United is about to expire, and Sheth wrote on X about the Hammers’ agreement with the player.

Wes Foderingham is close to joining West Ham United.

Sheth wrote:

West Ham United have agreed terms with keeper Wes Foderingham. He will join on a free transfer on a 2 year-deal. West Ham keeper Nathan Trott close to finalising £1.5m move to Copenhagen. #WHUFC

Before going on loan to Bromley, the 33-year-old Foderingham started his career in Fulham’s development program.

Following his release by Fulham, Foderingham joined Crystal Palace on a professional contract, and he then moved on loan to Swindon Town, Bromley, and Histon.

Chris Wilder signed Foderingham as a backup at United in the summer of 2020. He helped United in returning to the top flight the following year.

West Ham are being linked with English goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

That is according to West Ham insider Sean Whetstone who claims that the club are keeping an eye on the player who will be released by Sheffield United at the end of this month.

As per him, Hammers are one of the clubs monitoring the player. However, he is not the only goalkeeper they are looking at.

Whetstone wrote on X:

Wes Foderingham who will be released by Sheffield United at end of June is just one of several keepers being considered as West Ham’s third choice keeper to replace Joseph Anang who will be released at the end of his month.

Foderingham is on a short list but all balls are up in the air when it comes to which keeper West Ham will eventually sign on 1 July.

The signing of a keeper to replace West Ham’s third choice keeper is perhaps not the most exciting transfer news for the supporters, who must be excited for a big summer ahead under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui’s appointment as the new West Ham manager marks a significant shift for the club, bringing in a tactician with a wealth of experience at both club and international levels.

Lopetegui, renowned for his possession based football, has managed some of the top teams in Europe, including FC Porto, the Spanish national team, Real Madrid, and Sevilla.

He is expected to instil a more progressive style of play compared to David Moyes’ brand which was more passive.

West Ham are in talks to sign Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham ahead of the summer transfer window with the goalkeeper out of contract at Bramall Lane.

Buy Last Minute Tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final!

The Hammers saw their number-one shot-stopper change this season as David Moyes opted to start Alphonse Areola over Lukasz Fabianski.

The French star is a solid goalkeeper and having extended Fabianski’s contract by a year, the players will be Julen Lopetegui’s options for the 2024/25 campaign.

However, with the Polish star being 39, this may be the last season he spends at West Ham; while the Hammers’ third-choice goalkeeper, Joseph Anang, is set to be released at the end of his deal.

This has left the London club looking for a new keeper heading into the summer transfer market and the Irons have started talks with Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham to move to the London Stadium as a free agent, reports The Standard.

The 33-year-old was the Blades’ starting goalkeeper for the majority of this season starting 29 of their Premier League matches. The Englishman lost his starting spot for a period of eight games around March to Ivo Grbic but regained it towards the end of the campaign.

Wes Foderingham deal a smart move from West Ham

With many Premier League clubs having concerns over the league’s profit and sustainability rules heading into the upcoming transfer window, signing a third-choice goalkeeper for free is a smart move from West Ham as it is not a position they’d have wanted to spend money on, no matter how small.

Saving a transfer fee on this area will allow the Hammers to address other key positions as this summer is set to be a big one for the East London side.

What a shame that after such an epic match between Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United at White Hart Lane, the fall-out from the match has been centred around racism allegations directed towards Blades keeper, Wes Foderingham.

There were 97 minutes on the clock and the visitors were still looking at taking all three points from the fixture, before Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski turned the game around with two goals in two minutes.

The loss would’ve felt 10 times worse because of how late the goals were conceded, but that’s irrelevant when a person’s colour is called into question.

Foderingham himself took to Instagram to call out the racists.

That in turn prompted both clubs to condemn the actions, and the perpetrator(s) will likely now be hunted down, arrested and banned from grounds around the country.

It’s remarkable that in this day and age, football ‘fans’ still think that it’s ok to sit behind a keyboard and direct racist remarks and threats towards players that are simply doing their jobs.

One has to question whether the authorities are actually being forceful enough in their actions when prosecuting.

If there were to be enough of a deterrent in place, there’s a strong likelihood that the abuse will stop or at least be greatly reduced.
