Lazio have reportedly identified an alternative target should they fail in their bid to sign Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood.

According to a recent report from Fichajes, the Serie A side are readying an approach for Sunderland forward and brother of Real Madrid superstar Jude, Jobe Bellingham.

Looking to rebuild Lazio’s squad following the recent departures of Ciro Immobile, Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto, president Claudio Lotito is believed to be keen to sign Bellingham, 18.

Since joining the Black Cats from Birmingham City one year ago, Bellingham, who has represented England’s under-19s on five occasions, has directly contributed to eight goals in 47 games in all competitions.

It’s been a busy summer for the Bellingham family, with Jude having won the Champions League with Real Madrid after tying up La Liga, and then going on to lose in the final of the European Championship to Spain.

The 21-year-old will need a well-deserved rest before he puts his best foot forward in earnest for his club during pre-season, and as he does so, attention will turn to his brother, Jobe.

Lazio want Jobe Bellingham

At just 18 years of age, the younger Bellingham has been making a name for himself in the English Championship with Sunderland.

However, as with Jude, it would appear that greater things await on the continent.

Although he won’t be treading the same path as his older sibling, at least not yet, Jobe could soon be pulling on the shirt of Italian giants, Lazio.

According to Il Messaggero, the Serie A side will move for Bellingham soon, particularly if they’re unable to land Mason Greenwood whom they apparently remain in talks with according to the outlet.

Such a move would represent a significant step up in class for Jobe Bellingham, though if he has half as much confidence as his brother would appear to possess, then the switch won’t hold any fears for him.

Former Manchester United star Ashley Young has named Wes Brown as the shock pick for the ‘toughest opponent’ he’s faced during his career.

Turning 39 next month, Young is still going strong after spending the 2023/24 campaign with Everton, making 34 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees, who have offered him a one-year extension.

Young’s lengthy career has seen him win multiple major honours with Manchester United — including the Premier League and Europa League — and reach the 2018 World Cup semi-finals with England.

During that time, he’s faced the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Andrea Pirlo to name but a few formidable opponents.

Young makes shock ‘toughest opponent’ pick

Despite the illustrious list of names Young has tested himself against, it’s former Manchester United defender Wes Brown he’s picked as his ‘toughest opponent’.

Brown spent 14 years as a Man Utd player between 1997 and 2011, winning five Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

However, he left for Sunderland after never fully establishing himself as a regular starter — with the 23-time England international playing more than 28 Premier League games in a single season just once for the Red Devils.

Even so, Young does not look back fondly on his battles with the Longsight-born defender.

“It would be someone that people have forgotten about,” Young told talkSPORT. “When I was a winger, I’ve always said the toughest opponent I’ve come up against is Wes Brown.”

Young added: “You know when you talk about going past someone and getting change out of them? I got nothing out of him. Never able to get past him. Just nothing.

“When I’ve gone further back and played as a full-back or a wing-back, I’ve played against plenty of different wingers.

“But for me, in my head, I’m a winger myself, so the toughest opponents have been defenders. And the toughest was Wes Brown.”

It seemed fairly clear after Ange Postecoglou’s remarks towards the end of last season that Tottenham were going to need to make a splash in the summer transfer market.

A more than decent start to the 2023/24 campaign meant that the drop-off in quality, application and general standard of performance was disappointing for the Australian to say the least.

Though the North London outfit have often been accused of bottling it for want of a better term, Postecoglou seems dead set on changing the mindset at the club, even arguing with a supporter during Spurs’ match against Man City towards the end of the season.

Sunderland want to keep hold of the 18-year-old because the club believe he is a crucial part of the squad that is aiming to win promotion to the Premier League next season.

Bellingham is understood to still have three years remaining on his contract, and Sunderland will want to get as much money as possible if they do sell, given Birmingham are believed to have a 15% sell on clause.

The 17-year-old forward has recently been on trial with the Yorkshire club over the last few weeks and having impressed, The Telegraph report Leeds United want to permanently sign him.

Having progressed through Sunderland’s academy, Mason Cotcher has featured for the club at different youth levels recently and is regarded as one of the brightest youngsters outside of the Premier League.

Last season, he played for Sunderland’s U18’s side in the Premier League 2, netting nine goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. Furthermore, he earned a spot in Mowbray’s squad for their FA Cup match against Shrewsbury Town in the previous campaign.

Latest on Emile Smith Rowe’s future and Arsenal links with Premier League star

Emile Smith Rowe’s future continues to be the subject of some speculation after a lack of playing time for Arsenal this season, while we also know there was interest from West Ham United back in January.

In terms of what will happen in the summer, I think a lot depends on these final two months, how much he will play and be involved…and then Arsenal will make final decision together with the player. This is not something clear yet, so let’s wait and see how the situation looks after the final stages of the season.

As I said, Smith Rowe was on West Ham’s list in January but at that time he really wanted to stay at Arsenal, and also Mikel Arteta wanted to keep him. This was the clear decision of both parties, then let’s see if it changes for the summer, but there’s nothing concrete to report as of now.

Morgan Gibbs-White has been linked with Arsenal by some outlets, but I’m not aware of anything imminent or concrete honestly. They appreciate the player as many other clubs do as well, but at the moment they haven’t made contact with Nottingham Forest so we have to be patient on this one; it’s also going to be key to understand if Forest will still be in the Premier League or not.

I can say once again that Kylian Mbappe has no intention to hold talks or negotiations with any other club. This is the best news possible for Real Madrid as everything remains advanced, everything is being prepared.

So why did Mbappe say, in his latest press conference, that he doesn’t have anything to announce? Because the plan has always been for him to announce his decision together with Paris Saint-Germain as soon as he signs the official contract with Real Madrid.

At that moment, we will have an announcement, so we have to be patient but everything is heading in that direction.

Truth about Juventus links with Koopmeiners and Amrabat

Juventus are the favourites to sign Teun Koopmeiners as he has been their top target for a long time, they want him and the relationship with Atalanta is very good. Liverpool have been scouting him but again, a lot will depend on the decision on who will replace Jurgen Klopp as manager – it’s too early to mention Liverpool’s plans without a decision on the manager.

Remember the name Estevao Willian, playing at Palmeiras and on the list of big clubs around Europe for a long time. His release clause is around €60m – this is the value of the clause, but I can guarantee once again that scouts from all over Europe, including Chelsea for a long time now, are travelling to scout this boy.

Chelsea scouts have been in attendance since all the way back in October – the interest is there, even if there haven’t been any negotiations yet. It’s not easy to pay that kind of money of course, and that is why even though Barcelona are interested, they might not find it easy as they also recently invested big money in signing another Brazilian gem Vitor Roque.

Another name to watch is surely going to be Jude Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe Bellingham, who is impressing at Sunderland.

I really like him. I personally view him as an excellent talent – he’s a serious guy and a hard worker as well. I’m sure his future will be bright.

For him to be similar to Jude is going to be difficult, as it would be for everyone as he’s a generational player, but Jobe is really talented and good. We will see what happens in the summer, it’s quiet so far but scouts are obviously monitoring him closely.
