On the second day of his visit to the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Sunday said the past governments in the state left “no stone unturned to make Bengal backwards”.

Addressing BJP leaders at the ‘Sanyukt Morcha Sammelan’ in Kolkata, Nadda said, “What Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow. It is unfortunate to say that in the past 30-40 years under the rule of Congress or West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, no stone was left unturned to make Bengal backwards.”The BJP leader also criticised Banerjee for “pursuing dynastic politics”.

On Sunday, Nadda held a series of meetings with local party leaders and asked them to strengthen the booth-level committees ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

According to a senior leader of the party, Nadda asked the state leadership to reach out to the people more effectively.

“He held several meetings with party leaders, MLAs and MPs from the state to take stock of the organisational strength. After going through reports, Nadda ji asked our leaders to strengthen the organisation in the state, especially the booth level committees. He also directed the party leaders to reach out to the people more effectively,” said the party leader.
