Tired of daily squabbles over his demand for money to buy drugs, a man allegedly chopped off his son’s hand leading to latter’s death at Kotu Fangian village in Jalalabad subdivision of Fazilka, police Friday said.

The incident took place in the night of August 9 when Munsha Singh attacked his son Narinder Singh (30), a drug addict, with a sharp edged weapon.

As per the police, Munsha Singh is a butcher by profession and also works at a liquor vend. Father of two sons and a daughter, he has been raising his four grandchildren as both his sons are unemployed and drug addicts. His younger son is undergoing treatment at a drug de-addiction centre. “Narinder was an addict and frequently quarreled with family members for money for buying drugs. On Wednesday night, he reached the liquor vend where Munsha worked and demanded money leading to clash,” said Jalalabad city SHO.

In her statement to police, Munsha’s wife Raj Rani said: “I have three children – two boys and a girl. Both of my sons are addicts, and there are often fights between the sons and their father due to this issue. On August 9, around 10:30pm, a fight erupted between Narinder and my husband. Ramesh Singh, a village panchyat member intervened and calmed them down. However, another fight broke out around 12:30am, during which Narinder’s arm was severed. We rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries”.
