The Ghazipur police have launched an investigation into allegations levelled by a group of around 20 girl students of a medical college in the district that a girl student at the same college shot “objectionable” photographs and videos of them at a private hostel where they are lodged.
A two-member committee comprising professors at the college has also been formed to look into the matter, sources 0in the college administration said.
Even as the complainants – in a written complaint to the police and the college administration – alleged that they suspect the girl, without their consent, shared the “private” photographs and videos with a male student of the college, the police and the college authorities said that during preliminary enquiry, they have not found any evidence yet to substantiate the allegations. No case has been registered in the matter yet, police sources said.
The college principal has suspended two students (the girl and the male student facing the allegations) for six months to ensure a “fair probe”, sources said. The next course of action would be taken on the basis of the police and college committee’s probe reports, a source in the college administration said, adding that the suspension would be revoked if the allegations were found to be false.
On Saturday, a police team including women personnel, reached the college and videographed statements of the complainants as well as the two suspended students.
“The team informed that no evidence has been found yet. On the basis of the inquiry report, the next course of action will be taken,” said Om Vir Singh, Superintendent of Police, Ghazipur.
