August 12, 1983, Forty Years Ago: Message to Colombo

The spokesman was reacting to the reports from Tamil Nadu that the president of the Tamil Nadu Kamaraj Congress was organising 5,000 volunteers who would cross over from Indian shores to the Talaimannar coast in Sri Lanka to protest against the Sri Lanka government’s failure to protect the life and property of Tamils.

Bihar CM choice

The Congress (I) leadership’s choice for the chief ministership of Bihar is likely to fall on the Union Minister of State for Revenue, Chandra Shekhar Singh. Indications to this effect came after central leaders had preliminary discussions with Bihar leaders. It is not yet known if the central parliamentary board of the party will meet to consider the issue before the state legislature party meets.

SNM’s Decision

The Sant Nirankari Mandal, which had decided to send a “self-sacrificial” squad to Amritsar on August 15, after receiving appeals from members of Parliament, heads of religious orders and other organisations, had an emergency meeting of its action committee to review their decision.
