Actor Poonam Dhillon has revealed how she got on board the third season of the reality show Bigg Boss, which was hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The veteran says she was offered the show twice, but she turned it down both times.

In an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Dhillon said participating on Bigg Boss was a “dare” for her. The third season, which began airing in 2009, was won by Vindu Dara Singh with Dhillon adjudged as the second runner-up.

Dhillon said when the makers approached her for the third season, they told her that Bachchan was on board as the host and had one very clear condition, which they hoped would make the actor come on board comfortably.

“That was a dare for me. My children didn’t want me to go to Bigg Boss. They told me, ‘Mom, Bigg Boss is for losers, it is filled with negative people.’ I was offered season one and two, but I refused and said I don’t want to do it. They came back to me with the third season, when I told them, ‘Listen I told you…’ but they said, ‘No, we have come to you this time because Amitabh Bachchan ji is hosting it!’ They told me he has only one condition, that he doesn’t want any bad behaviour, bad vocabulary or abusive language. Only then he would host the show,” she said.

Dhillon said even though she had no idea who the other contestants were, the makers kept reassuring her that they are “good people” and that she would feel “comfortable” with them. “They persuaded me a lot. Suddenly one day, I thought this is a popular show which even the kids watch, a generation which probably hasn’t seen my films.

“So, it will be a nice way to connect with this generation and to show people that you can be dignified in any situation. It is not necessary that if the atmosphere around you is bad or disturbing, you become like that. So I agreed for the show with this thought,” she added.

Bigg Boss season one, which went on air in 2006, was hosted by actor Arshad Warsi, while the second season saw actor Shilpa Shetty coming on board as the host.
